Harry Redknapp's wife Sandra arrived home with her leg in plaster today after her football boss husband accidentally ran her over with his Range Rover.
Mrs Redknapp, 69, was heard screaming in agony and there was blood left in the road after the freak accident in Westbourne yesterday, four miles from the couple's £5million mansion in the wealthy Sandbanks area of Poole UK.
His wife of 49 years had surgery on ligament damage last night after her ankle was run over and left hospital in Bournemouth with her husband this afternoon, 24 hours after the incident.
Mrs Redknapp, who was wearing a white and pink dressing gown, had her right foot in a large cast and was using crutches while Harry placed a supportive arm around her as she hobbled to the front door.
The former Spurs and West Ham boss, who looked visibly shaken, said:
'It was just a freak accident. She'd gone behind the car and to cross over the road. And as I went to drive off - I sort of drove over her ankle, basically. I thought she'd crossed'.
He added:
'My wife's fine, she's had an operation on her ankle that went well. It's lucky. If the full weight of the car had run over the ankle - God knows what would have happened to her and her foot'.
Her son Jamie told MailOnline:
'My mum is back home and on the way to a full recovery. The only thing she is upset about is that she might not be fit to go to watch Louise on Strictly this Saturday. She doesn't like to miss it'.

Upset: Mr Redknapp spoke for the first time today and said he was relieved it wasn't worse, suggesting she could have broken or even lost her leg had the full weight of the car crushed her ankle
Football manager Harry, also 69, had driven his wife to the shops. One witness claimed her foot, and coat, may have been caught in the door as he pulled away.
Witnesses said Mrs Redknapp was is agony during the incident in Bournemouth and one said: 'There was a lot of blood on the Tarmac and Harry was beside himself. It was a freak accident.'

A local shopkeeper said:
'I was told he pulled up to let his wife out but before she had completely got out, he went to pull away and she fell over, hitting her head on the floor and breaking her ankle.
'He moved his car out of the way so the ambulance could get to her and then he got in the ambulance with her but I didn't see what happened after that.
'Everyone was talking about it, at first people thought he had hit a pedestrian and then I heard it was actually his wife.'
An eyewitness who saw the aftermath said:
'I saw her in the road and it looked like her leg had gotten trapped in the car. I think she hit her head as there was a fair bit of blood on the ground.
'Someone from Boots went out to help with first aid until the ambulance arrived.'
Mrs Redknapp was last night being attended to by her husband in hospital as she waited for surgery for her injuries, which have been described as 'serious'.
Although the exact circumstances were unclear last night, it was understood Mrs Redknapp's coat got trapped in the door and her foot was still in the Range Rover's footwell as it pulled away.
She screamed in pain and her husband slammed on the brakes — but not before her foot had been seriously injured.
One local : 'I was in a shop and a couple of people came in and said, 'Crikey, there's a lady who's been dragged along the road'.
'Then someone else came in and said it was Harry Redknapp who had just dropped his wife off.
'I heard as he drove off she got her coat caught in the door. She was dragged along the road before he realised. I think she has been badly injured.'

Others witnesses said the the former boss of Tottenham, West Ham, Bournemouth, Southampton and Portsmouth clubs looked shaken.
A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said:
'We were called at 11.49am to Poole Road, in Bournemouth.

'There was one female casualty in her 60s. She had a foot injury and has been taken into hospital.'
Mrs Redknapp had recently been in the audience on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing cheering on daughter-in-law Louise.
Redknapp was himself seriously hurt in a road accident near Rome which killed friend Brian Tiler in 1990.
They were in a minibus that was hit by a car during the World Cup in Italy.
Three young Italians also died.
Mr and Mrs Redknapp have two sons together Jamie, a former England football player and Daily Mail columnist, and Mark, a professional model.
Mr Redknapp's nephew is former England captain Frank Lampard.
In 2006, the BBC's investigative programme Panorama showed Mr Redknapp on camera expressing his interest in approaching a player illegally in order to arrange a transfer.
Following an investigation by HMRC in 2010, he was charged with two counts of cheating the public revenue, but was later found not guilty at a trial.
Last night, representatives for Mr Redknapp denied that an incident had taken place.
