  • Children in Australia will send more than 100,000 letters to the North Pole
  • Australia Post campaign has helped children get a reply from Santa
  • Letters sent to 'Santa, North Pole, 9999' will get a reply from him
  • Others that include a return address will also get a response from Santa
Daily Mail UK, 23 December 2015

With children in Australia sending more than 100,000 letters to the North Pole this Christmas, Australia Post has been in full swing making sure that every child gets a response from Santa Claus.

Over the past few months an Australia Post campaign has been encouraging children to send their Santa letters with their wish lists in them to 'Santa, North Pole, 9999'.

It ensured that Santa will read and respond to each letter. Children who did not put this address on their letter will still get a response so long as they provided a return address where Santa can send his reply.

More than 100,000 letters were sent by children in Australia to the North Pole this Christmas

Kids just had to clearly write their full name and address, along with a stamped envelope so Santa knew where to send his reply, with all the letters mailed before Christmas receiving a response direct from the North Pole.

Many Santa Mail letters were placed in Australia Post red post boxes or in-store at selected post offices. Post Offices also dedicated Santa Mail post boxes where children could post their letters from.

‘Each year, Santa receives thousands of letters from children across Australia with requests for all sorts of Christmas gifts including the latest toys and games,’ Christine Corbett, Executive General Manager, Postal Services at Australia Post, said.

‘With so many good boys and girls this year, Australia Post is expecting to send even more letters to the North Pole, so be sure to get yours in the mail as soon as possible so Santa has plenty of time to write back.’

The likes of staffers Simon Poletko and Christine Odgers at the Dandenong Letters Centre in Melbourne, have been hard at work in recent weeks sorting out ‘Santa Mail’ before it finally gets ‘sent to the North Pole'. The two team members sort mail on the spectrum machine (Australia Post's large letters sorting machine).

‘Writing a letter to Santa is easy and fun. It is a good way for children to learn and practice their letter writing skills,’ explained Ms Corbett.

‘If you get stuck or need help with writing your letter, Australia Post has some tips on our website, as well as decorative letter writing templates you can print from home.

‘You could also tell your teacher about Santa Mail and get your whole class to write letters together.’
