Winter Storm Octavia has left more than a foot of snow in parts of the South, as well as an ice storm that caused major problems on roadways and hundreds of thousands to lose power.

Here are the latest impacts from the winter storm:
•5 deaths reported, all on icy roads: 3 in Tennessee, 1 in North Carolina and 1 in Kansas.
•Water rescue occurred at a Virginia Beach retention pond Tuesday morning, according to WAVY.com. Two children fell through the ice and had to be rescued by local residents. Their condition is unknown.
•Georgia: Power companies say about 75,000 customers in Georgia are without power. Several counties in north Georgia remain under a winter storm warning until noon Tuesday.
•Maryland: Prince George's and Montgomery county governments are closed Tuesday.
•Mississippi: Bridges and roads remain icy Tuesday across much of northern Mississippi, and conditions are not expected to improve in some areas for the next several days.

North Carolina: Many schools were canceled in the eastern part of the state. Duke Energy reported about 40,000 customers without service Tuesday morning.
•Pennsylvania: Philadelphia schools are closed Tuesday. The state Department of Transportation lowered the speed limit to 45 miles per hour on Interstates 78, 80, 81, 176 and 380 between Harrisburg and the New Jersey border.
•South Carolina: Schools were closed or delayed across much of the state.

Tennessee: Nearly 15,000 are without power. Authorities say all of the interstates around Middle Tennessee remain hazardous with reports of slow-moving traffic, stranded motorists and lanes closed in many locations. Roads and bridges remain slick across the state, and secondary roads are still hazardous.
•Virginia: Winter Storm Octavia has shut down operations at the Port of Virginia, which operates terminals in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Richmond and Front Royal.
•Washington, D.C: The federal government and local governments in the District of Columbia are are closed Tuesday. Metro suspended bus service in the District, while trains were operating on a weekend schedule.
•West Virginia: The arrival of response crews to a train derailment in Fayette County was delayed by hazardous road conditions.
•State of emergency declared in Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.
•Flight cancelations: More than 1,400 domestic flights were canceled Tuesday, according to FlightAware. Flights in and out of Richmond, Raleigh-Durham, Greenville/Spartanburg, Nashville and Washington, D.C. were affected.

Americans and Canadians are certainly getting very cold weather this winter, it must be really tough for them. Their dreadful weather aftermath is affecting temps in the Caribbean and in Europe. Some European countries and Africa, that are normally hot, are experiencing temps in single digits- NOT normal...
