PhOtOs-70 Million at Risk from Severe Storms

A dangerous outbreak of severe weather is developing across the Midwest and Ohio Valley, capable of producing dangerous thunderstorms and widespread wind damage similar to that of a derecho.

Some of the cities and towns most at risk for severe weather into Wednesday night include Chicago, Columbus, Ohio, Fort Wayne, Ind., Aurora, Ill., Dayton, Ohio, and Louisville, Ky.

The storms can be rapidly moving and generate wind gusts over 80 or even 100 mph. The vast majority of observed wind reports with this type of system, however, are usually between 60 and 70 mph.

Though unconfirmed, tornadoes had already been reported in multiple states across the Midwest by Wednesday evening.
