This is the dramatic moment Las Vegas police officers exchanged gun fire with a suspect, in a shoot-out that left the man paralyzed and a Metro K-9 dead. The incident was captured on the bodycam of Las Vegas Metro police officer Abudhabi Lewis, who was one of four law enforcers responding to the call on Fast Elk Street on Thursday. The video shows Lewis shouting for the suspect to drop his gun while approaching him with his own weapon raised for protection. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9845735340.jpg The video shows Lewis shouting for the suspect to drop his gun while approaching him with his own weapon raised for protection http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9845792480.jpg The suspect, James Craig Simpson, 31, (who can be seen in the back of the shot) drops the firearm on the ground but stands alongside it The suspect, James Craig Simpson, 31, then drops the firearm on the ground but stands alongside it as Lewis, and a fellow officer attempt to reason with the man. Lewis can be heard saying: 'Do not go towards the gun. Do not go near the gun,' while the other officer instructs the man to relax and walk towards the patrol car. Lewis continues: 'Relax, relax, please don't do this. Please do not do that please. We will talk to you, we will help you out, but don't go near the gun please. 'Just walk over there and we will settle it, we will figure it out, alright? We will go help your mom, we will do whatever we need to do. 'But please, I'm asking you please, just step to the left towards that light pole right there.' Lewis continues to plead with the man, but Metro Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said he kept an eye on it on the ground http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9845739234.jpg Lewis can be heard saying: 'Do not go towards the gun. Later in the footage Sgt Eric Kerns releases the police K-9 called Nicky, who immediately runs at the suspect, according to McMahill, who spoke during a press conference yesterday. He added that when the suspect saw the dog coming his way he lunged for his weapon and fired at the officers - the gunshots can be heard in the video. The officers returned fire as Nicky latched on to Simpson, but was unable to bring him to the ground. http://kvvu.images.worldnow.com/images/10254386_G.jpg James Craig Simpson (Source: LVMPD) The suspect was struck six times by officers and Nicky was hit once. It is with heavy hearts this afternoon that we inform everyone about the loss of a valuable member of the LVMPD crime-fighting team.' Las Vegas Metro police held the press conference to release additional information on the fatal shootings of Branden Hughes and his mother, Felicia Wimberly-Hughes. The pair were found dead at a home in the area after the police responded to a call about shots being fired and allegedly found Simpson holding a gun in the street http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...9846825455.jpg Las Vegas police officers posted a picture tribute to Nicky on Facebook, who was killed in the shoot-out .
