New FBI unit can spy on your Skype convos
New FBI unit can spy on your Skype convos
Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 24 May 2012 Cnet is reporting today that the FBI is in the process of creating a new unit that will be able to spy on your conversations that take place using wireless communications, like Skype. The new unit will be called the "Domestic Communications Assistance Center." Reads the source: "DCAC's mandate is broad, covering everything from trying to intercept and decode Skype conversations to building custom wiretap hardware or analyzing the gigabytes of data that a wireless provider or social network might turn over in response to a court order. It's also designed to serve as a kind of surveillance help desk for state, local, and other federal police." Talks for the new unit have been around for over four years, and will be "the technological component of the bureau's 'Going Dark' Internet wiretapping push, which was allocated $54 million by a Senate committee last month."

Re: New FBI unit can spy on your Skype convos
This is termed 'mission creep'. Everyone in the law enforcement side wants access to stuff that isn't really legal but until it goes through court and becomes so, no one will be able to fight it.
The CIA and the NSA are not supposed to be able to operate within the US borders. Yet the NSA is building this huge facility in Utah to intercept and be able to break any encrypted messages to find out what they say. The FBI in the meantime has gone on record as wanting back door access to all these social programs as well as popular softwares. The CIA claims it has legal authority to intercept any verbal or text messages done by internet if one of the parties is outside the US borders. This whole thing of spying on the citizens is driven by being scared of them. The reason they are scared of the populace is they are doing things they know are wrong and illegal. The guilty conscience says that if they are doing it, so are others and they want to know where the trouble is going to come from. Our whole government is corrupt from top to bottom. I think John F. Kennedy said it best so I'll quote him directly... Quote:

Re: New FBI unit can spy on your Skype convos
The "Domestic Communications Assistance Center." must be the biggest unit in the USA.
Difficult to imagine that they have to listen in on (and understand) all the conversations in every dialect, spoken on this planet. I guess it is good for job creation but bad on spending tax money. |

Re: New FBI unit can spy on your Skype convos
They have already been spying on all Social Media Sites for quite a while. They had to get the court's permission to do it, but they spied on the conversations between Megaupload before they took them down.
They decided they didnt want to go through all that process again to get permission, so they new CISPA act was brought in to allow them to do it,,,,to cover piracy & terrorism (that was their reasons to put it through). Read my previous warnings on this; FBI Wants To Spy on You CISPA Spying Act

Re: New FBI unit can spy on your Skype convos
I tend to forget that not everyone follows this stuff and doesn't know about it. Facebook has long had a direct tie in with the FBI. No warrants from court needed.
The recent trends over the last 5 or 6 years has been if you don't know about it, then everything is cool cause you can't take them to court. The reason is you can't prove they have spied on you personally and therefore have no standing to bring the case to court. In this standing is everything. You can not rely on third party info in court. It must either be first hand knowledge it was done to you or there must be proof that such has happened. This very set of circumstances came up with the tie in of the FBI investigating a sect of the Islamic religion in the states. In a screw up, the FBI released to the lawyer of the group, the verifiable documents under the freedom of information act that they had indeed been listening in. Once this screw up was found out, they then tried to cover their tracks by sealing the documents in court and claiming national security to keep them out of the public's hands. It was the one case allowed to go forward behind the post-amnesty granting to the major telecoms over the Bush spying that was allowed with the Patriot Act. No major social site on the net today, housed within the US or being transferred across US servers, is without spying. It is not that someone is listening in on every conversation and text message but rather that certain keywords are monitored for providing the flag for attention. You can read more about that here: Code: [Check Download Links]
