Pirate DVD anti-piracy warning gets updated

You wouldn't steal a car: DVD anti-piracy warning gets updated
Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 15 May 2012

The federal government, with help from the Hollywood studios, has updated the iconic DVD/Blu-ray anti-piracy warnings seen on all new releases.
Instead of just one logo, the new warnings now have three, including one from IPR and one from Homeland Security (seen below).

The original logo has been around since 2004 on all new home releases, and includes text noting that pirates can face jail time and a large fine if they ever decide to rip a movie, make a backup, or share the files illegally.

In the new version, there is a Homeland Security Investigations "special agent" badge reflecting the power the group has had since 2008 in Web matters and there is a second page for the National Intellectual Property Center.

Both new warnings here :

It has become a burden to use the product as designed. What makes the industry believe that if one notice doesn't work that two will?

The real issue that isn't grasped here, is that if you make it more of a pain to buy and use a product than the pirates do, people will automatically gravitate to the easier to use method. It's human nature. You already can not bypass the previews, the warnings, and the other BS thrown it. It takes you anywhere from 3 to 10 minutes before you can get to the movie the legal way but you go right to it, if you pirate. Paying for the goods has become more of an irritation to the public than not paying for it. Exactly the wrong people get punished to do the officially acknowledged way of using the product.

You can't buy it on the wrong side of the world to use it, they want payment over and over again for the very same item to use on other devices; face it, the whole thing makes no sense unless you are one of the greedy ones putting it out.

Not living in the USA, call me ignorant, but why would Homeland Security be involved in copyright issues?
I had to look for it's purpose and found this;
"Homeland security is an umbrella term for security efforts to protect states against terrorist activity"
So trying to be funny; Guy's, be carefull with that usb stick, in your underpants, when taking a flight to the states.

Sometimes this stuff is difficult to understand, even for the locals. Homeland Security falls under the umbrella of the DoJ (Department of Justice). Another group that falls under DoJ, is ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Neither of those departments actually handle copyright infringement but then there is no true enforcement arm dedicated to infringement to gather the property prior to court actions.

Where this gets a little strange, is that copyright enforcement tends to lump in with counterfeiting, on purpose by the lobbyists. Neither topic by itself has any hitting power. Counterfeiting can be a health hazard in the terms of drugs, infringement can be big money but is not dangerous to the public in the sense of a threat. Only by combining the two, does each get what it is missing. It's a misleading action done on purpose to drive the sense home to law makers that something needs be done NOW. So everyone gets a bit confused as to whose authority it is to act.

*edit* There is one more piece to this puzzle. For ages, the copywrong forces have tried to prove (without success) that file sharing has something to do with terrorists.The reason is, if it can be tied, then it is a US government problem that the taxpayers will pay for rather than the copywrong groups. This is where Homeland Security ties in.
