Another Torrent Site Has "Gone"

I have been reading that this site is reported gone
H33t.com

Here is one report;

Quote:
The popular torrent site H33t.com is “under fire.”

For reasons unknown, the site has been unresponsive for a few hours now.

TorrentFreak contacted the owner of the site for more details on the situation, but he has yet to reply.

As usual, we expect that the downtime is caused by a technical issue, but with sites being shut down left and right you can never be too sure.

As soon as we hear more about the situation at h33t.com we’ll post a short update here.
H33t is down and I have confirmed it here;

I will update if I find out any more info. http://www.wjunction.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

However they have been down before in 2011 and January 2012, and have come back, but because of today's climate on torrents, it may be something more sinister.

A couple of months ago 230,872 torrents were being tracked on there, so it is quite big.

I have warned many times that torrent sites are risky to use now.

Re: Another Torrent Site Has "Gone"

I too, often warn of the same thing. Public torrents are really a bad place to file share. You're begging for trouble to come see you. Private torrents in some cases are a bit more secure but the thing is, all that has to happen is either for someone to decide to turn evidence to get off the hook or for someone to infiltrate the site.

I had a bit of contact with HEAT long ago it seems. Not through intentional usage but rather, I used to do AIOs. Not the boiler plate where you push buttons for things to get done but rather I custom wrote my own scripts for it. This made my AIOs unique in the AIO maker world. They became sought after as not only were they custom scripted but also this is where my interest in graphics started so that I had custom graphics for my work.

I found that there was an individual that was reverse engineering them to put his own nick in them and then putting them out to the torrent world. Now I didn't really care that they were being spread wide and far. In fact I had no issue at all with being seen by a wider audience. Where I had the problem was this individual some how claiming he had something to do with it. In the end, I started watermarking the display page and zipping and passwording the offers. The program would not ask the user to supply the password but rather handled all that invisibly through the scripting. What that did was remove access to the material from the back end. Under normal circumstances the user would never know it was happening. Only the people who went in the back end would find out. I even had someone come asking for the passwords.

You see, I didn't mind giving it to them for free, I just wanted them to see and appreciate my work in the process. I never complained to HEAT. Never complained to the individual.

Still I am sad to see another file sharing site bite the dust.
