Copyright Lobby Hires Pro-ACTA Demonstators

What if you organize a pro-copyright demonstration, but nobody wants to attend?

Well, then you can always hire some students.

This is exactly what the German copyright lobby must have thought.

They are reportedly recruiting students who are asked to attend a 2-hour demonstration for a lucrative 100 euro ($130).

The demonstration is held on World Intellectual Property Day where the students will probably have to hold up pro-ACTA signs and other propaganda.

And yes, these students are paid with money from the copyright industry, money that could have been paid to artists as well.

It doesn’t look like the demonstration is going to be a huge success though, as even one of the major industry associations backed out already because they fear bad press.

The copywrong industry is still smarting from the failure of SOPA to pass and ACTA on the rails and likely not to be accepted.

To understand the fear, the copywrong industry invested millions in SOPA for buying 30 some politicians on both sides in the US. It was probably 2 years in the making, given that in the last 30 years, 15 seperate copyright laws have been passed. To have the public over throw it was beyond comprehension.

So misunderstood it was that Google and Facebook were the accused culprits beyond the failure to pass in their eyes. So they put the word out to the lobbyists working Washington that any that worked for either of their nemesis would never get their business again.

What they want and can't get, is public support for them. They haven't grasped that viral support for their issues isn't going to happen. Buying it won't do it either and there is where it is demonstrated the lack of understanding of why those failed.

You can not enforce copyright infringement without knowing who is infringing and this is the source of why all the privacy attacks. They can not demand an ISP give them what they want unless the tools are in place and the law says they can.

I will end this with one other small piece of info. The way the Great Firewall of China was implemented into law as as a means to stop piracy. This should provide something of an eye opener when you look back at the laws being attempted to be passed.

The name of the German copyright lobby is GEMA. GEMA is a real problem child in Germany because of union and therefore political support. Google at present is tied in knots in court with GEMA. They have lost a case that says not only do they have to block filtered names but have to prevent it from happening again. Google will most likely appeal this ruling. Artists not associated with GEMA still have to deal with them. It prevents them from just up and offering their own works on websites to get around GEMA without major problems from them.
