Daily Mail UK, 12 September 2015

The horrifying moment a 62-year-old New York man was left in a pool of his own blood with a severed ear after a woman allegedly ordered her two pit bulls to attack him.

Police said Cynthia Oliver, 55, was outside her apartment building in the Bronx when she let her two dogs off their leash and set them on Francesco Bove.
Lasting nearly two minutes, the gruesome mauling that saw both dogs dragging Bove across the road was captured on video by a woman living in an apartment above the road.

The two dogs first start mauling the man in the middle of the street, while another, holding what appear to be leashes, tries to intervene

Bove, wearing a yellow shirt, can be seen lying on the ground in the footage while the two white dogs circle and bite at him.
Initially attempting to hold them off, he soon succumbs to the attack is dragged towards the curb.

Screams and shouting can heard heard in the footage, including a call for someone to 'get the water'.

One man, later identified as 46-year-old Emilio Ortiz, is seen trying to get the dogs off the man by holding them back with their leashes, but soon he is knocked to the ground as well.

Neighbors rushed to help both men, whipping the dogs and blasting them with water

The woman filming the attack can be heard speaking to emergency services.

'They're attacking a man,' she says. 'He's in the street bleeding. I'm upstairs watching this out [of] my window.'

Police said the attack happened after Oliver had an argument with Bove, a claim he disputes.
Bove said he was walking into Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church when the dogs managed to get off their leash and pounced on him

Both the men are thrown to the ground in the melee, but the dogs first target only the man in the yellow shirt

The attack continues, with the two dogs dragging the victim across the road and towards the sidewalk. However, a group of bystanders rally together to help protect the man

The attack was so brutal even the priest came running out of the church to read Bove his last rites because it 'looked like he was going to die,' Bove's son Anthony told the paper.

'But the father said he had to promise to fight through it.'

Bove came through with his promise, but was left with a shredded ear, 'two big chunks missing' from both his arms as well as multiple lacerations to his legs and chest and potential nerve damage.
And yet the artist, who owns a pit bull himself, is worried about the dogs that attacked him.

Bove said he had never met and didn't interact with Oliver, whose apartment is next to the church.

'Those dogs, they were trained to fight,' he said.
Anthony Bove said it was clear the dogs were hungry for his father's blood, saying he saw them licking it as it spilled into the street.

Oliver has been charged with eight counts of assault and two counts of reckless endangerment.
Her two pit bulls have been taken to Animal Care and Control.

After lying for several moments in a pool of his own blood, the victim then climbs back to his feet

Badly injured, he walks away as clothing and a pool of blood is left in the street

We had a women about 10 miles from where we live last week, went to her mailbox just to get her mail when one of her neighbors' pit bull jumped out their window attacked and killed her. I'm thinking she was just in her 40's. I myself just ain't got any use for a pit bull dog. Guess you either love'em or hate'em. No matter how tame they seem they're just a time bomb waiting to go off.

I agree Tarfoot, & they are the most dangerous dogs > thats why they are used in those evil pro. dog fights.

Any Dog is dangerous if treated wrongly or trained to act that way.
I have retrained a few very bad dogs that are called "rescue dogs" because they are taken away from their owners and hopefully given a fresh new start.
My latest personal dog is a rescue dog and he has not bitten me for over 6 weeks now. He is now a very happy, playful and loving dog.
It is the Owners of these bad dogs that need to be put-down, or at least be set upon by bad dogs so that they can feel the pain and see the aggression that bad dogs are taught.

I agree with you partially BaZZa.... However...

I have worked with the training of police dogs, because I grew up with dogs, hence I 'thought' I could train/reteach ANY dogs that were badly treated.

The last 2 rescue dogs I took into my home many years ago, now feel comfortable & safe,,,They are 'sisters'
BUT 1 continues to NOT allow anyone to touch her..

Her name is Daisy, and she mentally will never recover on what happened to her and her sister, Honey.

Honey is doing well now and is enjoying the 'Zest of life'

Daisy has simply given up.. but her ears go down and her tail wags when I gently approach her..BUT she wont allow me, or anyone to touch her.

Hence she doesnt know/nor want a cuddle from humans.

She and her sister Honey, were found at the side of a road, starving, with brutal injuries inflicted on them and wrapped in RAZOR wire..

Took many months of surgery/treatment, in a voluntary clinic, before the Vet owner would release them for adoption.

She trusted me to take them.

Humans can talk and eventually/hopefully recover from such horrendous abuse.. Sometimes some animals cannot. > They simply can't talk BAZZA!

I trust animals MORE than people, and always have

Thanks for posting your thoughts.

I do appreciate your kindest to the 2 rescue doggies you took in.

Personally I would get rid of ALL the bad humans, and fill my home with animals..
But then I would become a crazy woman, and an AMERICAN 'Interception' would be needed..

Right BAZZA?...

Seriously .... PitBulls are a breed that need to be nourished/cuddled by HUMAN contact from when they are 4/6 weeks old...

+ Remember where they came from

They are the only breed of dogs I would NEVER approach, unless I knew them, or their owners...

& I have faced many dangerous dogs/situs/people..

PitBulls >>> NEVER!

Tarfoot's comments were correct >> PitBulls are a breed that are unpredictable..

Simple as that BaZZa
