Default Take the Facebook objectors suspicious?

Take the Facebook objectors suspicious?
by Katrin Schulze

The assassin was not active on Facebook. Researchers believe that abstinence-line may indicate problems. In U.S. personnel departments will even be suspicious if job applicants want to reveal anything about themselves on social networks.

No Facebook profile, no job offer

Wake up young people who do not have a Facebook account, mistrust, then? Determined in some human resources departments in the U.S., there were at last aware of cases where heads of their applicants requested the access to their profile. Who does not have a profile, for which there is no job offer, because he has something to hide. So far it is not yet in this country. But ask even in Germany, "70 to 80 percent of HR professionals by the candidates in the network," says psychologist Christopher Moeller Hanover.

Revealing images that users and private messages were better off not making it accessible for everyone is aware by now the most. But that the opposite effect - the absolute abstinence - seems suspect makes new. "The Internet has become a natural part of life," says Moeller. And: "It is possible that you get with virtual friends and feelings of positive feedback." But only as long as users do not overdo it. As long as they continue to maintain contacts and real and the virtual tours are not addictive, because the can, according to the scientist "reinforce basic psychological disorders and anxiety."

On the other hand, Moller, however not convinced. ". That an abstinence from the Internet similar causes, can not be said," Nevertheless, the assassin of Aurora is not the first assassin, who shunned social networks also the Norwegian Anders Breivik , the front of a year for the mass murderer was, in fact, its largely invisible on the web. Like Holmes, he reported only in a few forums to speak, hidden otherwise isolated themselves. He was an outsider.

And maybe this is for investigators and experts in the latest case, the important finding: that Holmes not only had no Facebook friends, but - so far known - not even good acquaintances and friends in real life.

First this is a Google translation of a foreign publication. So if you find grammatical errors, that is probably the source.

Now I've never joined the social sites like Facebook, Myspace, Second Life, or any of the others. A couple of reasons for that. One is that it's has always been my main impression that these sites were filled with adolescent kids. I'd rather text and talk to adults. It's fairly easy on line to stumble into some sort of sting where some police group has set up to catch the pedophile. I don't need those sorts of complications in my life. Nor am I seeking anyone other than adult to converse with. However on the net you don't know who is on the other end. A site filled with kids is not a place I want to be.

Second problem I've always had with these sites is that potential employers want in your accounts. Don't got one, can't get info from it. Spying on your private life away from the work environment doesn't strike me as appealing. You should keep in mind that most of these sites want your real name.

Third problem I have with these social sites is datamining and advertising. Have I ever told you how much I hate ads and commercials? I hate them with a passion and it's one of the reasons that made it so much easier to become a cord cutter back 10 years ago. I no longer own a tv and honestly don't want one. I have a problem with the low brow mentality that the comedy shows display, the obvious bias news programs are steeped in, and the type of show I enjoy is rarely made often, at least no more than once or twice a month at best.

Datamining is something else. Everyone and their brother are into mining your data. You are the product on these social sites. It's your data being sold and your eyeball tracks being purchased.

Then we come down to government spying. Its a well known fact that all government agencies are into tapping these same sites for clues on you, whoever you are, that might be suspicious. So much so that many authorities bitch when it's not easy to locate your personal account to do a run down on you without your knowledge. Why should I provide info that can just as easily be misused and abused without my knowledge? I tend to think I am better off not leaving those tracks and the headache that would come with them.

You always have the theme of "I'm not doing anything wrong, why should I care"? I invite you some time to read some news of the wrongly convicted, spending 20 years in jail, before the mistake of an overly zealous prosecutor, trying to make a name for himself, conveniently buried the facts that would have absolved the convicted. All it takes is someone in the legal arm bound and determined to make an example and you be the case of opportunity.

Now I got hooked into a few of these before with the military, where an example had to be made. Even got an article 15 (which is a disciplinary action) with removal of rank, reduction in pay, restriction to base, extra duty on my time off, black mark on the record; all because the head knocker was going to set an example and I was the case of opportunity. Trouble is, I wasn't guilty of any of it. Oh, did I also mention I had a eye witness to the events? The 1ˢᵗ Sergent intervened after the book had been thrown at me and sent me off on a detail for a couple of weeks. When I returned, the record, the punishment, the money, the rank loss, everything that would have been done; vanished. They all vanished along with the big boss that threw his weight around to make me an example.

My point in all that, is that to be a suspicious character, to be the prime suspect, or to be charged and found guilty often has little to do with if you did or not, whatever was leveled at you.

Call me a mass murder or whatever but I have no interest in joining these social sites. What better way to get more people for you to spy on that to make these sorts of claims hoping to scare them into the site?

I agree, it is so stupid the amount of personal stuff folk post on these social sites. I really dont understand how so many have the time to do it.

I hate them, espec FB! It is "shoved" down your throat on all sites now and its very annoying for busy people like you and I photostill.

Thanks for the report
