Trump & Republicans Move to Give Away National Lands, Losing Billions in Revenue...

Though recreation on public lands creates $646bn in economic stimulus and 6.1m jobs, Republicans are setting in motion a giveaway of Americans’ birthright

The Guardian UK/Daily Mail UK, 21 January 2017

Republican lawmakers have quietly laid the foundation to give away a large portion of America’s 640m acres of national land. These may include areas around the Grand Canyon that feed the Colorado River. In the midst of highly publicized steps to **dismantle insurance coverage for 32 million people and defund women’s healthcare facilities**, TRUMP & Republican lawmakers have quietly laid the foundation to give away Americans’ birthright: 640m acres of national land. In a single line of changes to the rules for the House of Representatives, Republicans have overwritten the value of federal lands, easing the path to disposing of federal property even if doing so loses money for the government and provides no demonstrable compensation to American citizens.

At stake are areas managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Forests and Federal Wildlife Refuges, which contribute to an estimated $646bn each year in economic stimulus from recreation on public lands and 6.1m jobs. Transferring these lands to the states, critics fear, could decimate those numbers by eliminating mixed-use requirements, limiting public access and turning over large portions for energy or property development.

In addition to economic stimulus from outdoor activities, federal land creates revenue through oil and gas production, logging and other industrial uses. According to the BLM, in 2016, it made $2bn in royalty revenue from federal leases. The Outdoor Industry Association estimates federal tax revenue from the recreation economy at almost $40bn.

Ignoring those figures, the new language for the House budget, authored by Utah Republican representative Rob Bishop, who has a history of fighting to transfer public land to the states, says that federal land is effectively worthless. Transferring public land to “state, local government or tribal entity shall not be considered as providing new budget authority, decreasing revenues, increasing mandatory spending or increasing outlays.”

Essentially, the revised budget rules deny that federal land has any value at all, allowing the new Congress to sidestep requirements that a bill giving away a piece of federal land does not decrease federal revenue or contribute to the federal debt.

Republican eagerness to cede federal land to local governments for possible sale, mining or development is already moving states to act. Western states, where most federal land is concentrated, are already introducing legislation that pave the way for land transfers.

In Wyoming, for example, the 2017 senate has introduced a joint resolution that would amend the state constitution to dictate how public land given to the state by the federal government after 2019 is managed. It has little public support, but Wyoming Senate President Eli Bebout said that he thought the state should be preemptively thinking about what it would do with federal land.

The Congressional devaluation of national property is the most far-reaching legislative change in a recent push to transfer federal lands to the states. Because of the Republican majority in Congress, bills proposing land transfers could now swiftly diminish Forest Service and BLM lands across the country.

“We didn’t see it coming. I think it was sneaky and underhanded. It exemplifies an effort to not play by the rules,” said Alan Rowsome, senior director of government relations at The Wilderness Society. “This is the worst Congress for public lands ever.”

Rowsome said he’s not exactly sure how the rule will be used, but he thinks the first places to come under attack might include areas adjacent to the majestic Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona and Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Those areas hold uranium and copper, respectively.

Rowsome said he’s worried that sensitive tracts of public land, like the oil-rich Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, could soon be up for sale. Some 60% percent of Alaska is made up of national land, and the state’s representatives have tried to pass laws claiming parts of it for state use as recently as 2015. “It’s an amazing ecosystem and worthy of protection, and it’s very likely that House Republican majority will open that up for drilling,” Rowsome said.

If transferred to the state, Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge could be opened up to drilling
.

Giving away national land has been part of the Republican Party platform since the mid-80s, after Reagan declared himself a Sagebrush Rebel, but it’s regained steam in the past few years as 20 states have introduced some form of legislation suggesting that federal property be given to local governments.

In 2015, Bishop and fellow Utah representative Chris Stewart formed the Federal Land Action Group, a congressional team with the specific intent to come up with a framework for transferring public land. “Washington bureaucrats don’t listen to people,” Bishop said in a statement. “Local governments do.”

But Rowsome argues that’s a populist message without any popular support, pushed by a small faction of legislators with support from industries like mining and energy. Despite the Republican message that Washington has overstepped in designating national parks and monuments, a 2016 study found that 95% of the American public believes that National Parks are worth protecting and 80% said they’d be willing to pay higher taxes to do so.

“Western Republicans that are perpetuating the idea are very well funded by the oil and gas industry during their campaign,” Rowsome said. “It’s special interests wielding power for an agenda that will advance their goal. Nearly 90% of BLM lands are already open, but they can’t stop trying to get more.”

A 2016 Colorado College survey of seven western states found that 60% of voters rejected both the sale of public lands to states and giving states control without sale.

In 2012, Arizona voters struck down two pieces of legislation that would have turned over federal land to the state, including one that claimed the Grand Canyon as state land.

Opponents fear that local governments, especially in states with small budgets, won’t be able to invest in management and will sell off land to make money. Last summer, the Forest Service was spending $240m a week to suppress wildfires, and the Department of Interior estimates the cost of deferred maintenance, like updating roads, at around $11bn.

In December, Wyoming Governor Matt Mead said that transferring public land to his state was legally and financially impractical. He cited firefighting costs on public land as something that the state budget wouldn’t have room for.

Historically, when federal lands have been transferred to states, they have become less accessible. Idaho sold off almost 100,000 acres of its public land between 2000 and 2009. In Colorado, access has been limited the public can only use 20% of state trust land for hunting and fishing.

John Gale, conservation director for the advocacy group Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, said that he’s worried about access for sportsmen. He believes that there’s a further danger in segmenting ecosystems through state-by-state development.

“70% of the headwaters of our streams and rivers in the West are on public lands,” he said. “Rivers and migratory corridors don’t follow state boundaries.”

The incoming administration hasn’t been clear about where it falls on transfers. Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke, tapped to be the next Secretary of the Interior, voted for the rules package, but in the past he’s been against land transfers. President-elect Donald Trump has spoken out against reallocating federal land, but he’s also met with prominent pro-land transfer groups.

Nevertheless, bills proposing land transfer will now have an easy route to passage, as they won’t need to be backed by any financial justification.

The entire rules package passed on party lines, but it runs counter to legislation that passed both the House and Senate in November, the Outdoor Recreation Jobs and Economic Impact Act of 2016. Signed into law in December, the legislation requires the Department of Commerce to count the over half a trillion dollars from the outdoor recreation economy in the country’s GDP for the first time.

“It’s not just natural resources that are on the auction block, but jobs,” said Gale. “For a party that prides itself on being fiscally conservative ... they’re talking out of both sides of their mouth.”
END.

Social Media Users Believed Michelle Obama's Facial Expressions Throughout the Day and Before Trump's Inauguration Speech Said Enough...

AP, 21 January 2017

'Michelle Obama's side-eye game was the real winner of this #Inauguration,' one user tweeted with a photo of Mrs Obama and Hillary Clinton standing next to each other

From the moment the now former first lady was handed a gift in an awkward meeting with the Trumps to when she listened to the new president's key address, Mrs Obama did not look impressed.

Quote:

"Why is she, that I don't know, and has done nothing for America, nor born here, handing me a gift.

Michelle Obama is literally all of us today,' the user tweeted.

"Throughout the day, Mrs Obama's face was the barometer for most of America's feelings"..

Oh Crap! re: TRUMP's Crazy Decisions= He Could Be Removed From Office >Clause in Constitution

Revealed: FBI Terrorism Taskforce Investigating Native American Standing Rock Activists

FBI Representatives have Contacted Several ‘Water Protectors’ > Wanting to Raise Alarm that an Indigenous-Led Movement is Being Construed as.. "DOMESTIC TERRORISM" ???... ....

Daily Mail UK, 10 February 2017/The Guardian UK, 10 February 2017.

> ALL about $$$ folks = to heck with the people..

100 people gathered near the White House, denouncing Trump, who issued an order four on 24 January to expedite both the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) and to revive another multibillion-dollar oil artery, Keystone XL

The FBI is investigating political activists campaigning against the Dakota Access pipeline, diverting agents charged with preventing terrorist attacks to instead focus their attention on indigenous activists and environmentalists.

The Guardian has established that multiple officers within the FBI’s joint terrorism taskforce have attempted to contact at least three people tied to the Standing Rock “water protector” movement in North Dakota.

The purpose of the officers’ inquiries into Standing Rock, and scope of the task force’s work, remains unknown. Agency officials declined to comment.

But the fact that the officers have even tried to communicate with activists is alarming to free-speech experts who argue that anti-terrorism agents have no business scrutinizing protesters.

“The idea that the government would attempt to construe this indigenous-led non-violent movement into some kind of domestic terrorism investigation is unfathomable to me,” said Lauren Regan, a civil rights attorney who has provided legal support to demonstrators who were contacted by representatives of the FBI. “It’s outrageous, it’s unwarranted … and it’s unconstitutional.”

Regan, who has regularly visited Standing Rock and is the executive director of the Civil Liberties Defense Center in Oregon, said she learned of three cases in which officers with the taskforce, known as the JTTF, tried to talk to activists in person.

She described the encounters as attempted “knocks and talks”, meaning law enforcement showed up at people’s doors without a subpoena or warrant and tried to get them to voluntarily cooperate with an interview.

The three individuals, who include a Native American and a non-indigenous activist, asserted their fifth amendment rights and did not respond to the officers, according to Regan, who declined to identify them to protect their privacy and out of fear of retribution.

Construction equipment near the Dakota Access pipeline. Workers have begun drilling after the army corps granted the permit necessary.

Two of them were contacted in North Dakota and a third at their home outside the state, according to Regan.
She said all three contacts were made in recent weeks after Trump’s inauguration.

Trump, a former investor in Energy Transfer Partners, the Texas-based firm behind the pipeline, took executive action in his first week in office to expedite the project.

On Wednesday, workers began drilling to complete the pipeline across the Missouri river.

The JTTF revelation comes at a time when there have been increasing concerns at Standing Rock about law enforcement surveillance, police violence and the targeted arrests and prosecutions of activists.

Since the summer, law enforcement officials have made roughly 700 arrests, in some cases leading to serious felony charges and possibly lengthy state prison sentences. Following recent indictments, at least six activists are now facing charges in federal court. Rumors about JTTF have caused further stress among the activists.

Regan said she was able to confirm the identity of one of the JTTF officers, Andrew Creed, who attempted to contact an activist. Reached by phone, he declined to comment to the Guardian, saying, “I can’t talk to you” before hanging up.

An FBI spokesman, Jeffrey Van Nest, also declined to answer any questions, saying: “We’re not in a position to provide a comment as to the existence of an investigation.”

In November, a JTTF officer also showed up to the hospital room of Sophia Wilansky, a 21-year-old who was seriously injured during a standoff with law enforcement at Standing Rock, according to her father, Wayne Wilansky. The FBI took her clothes and still have not returned them, he said in an interview this week.

Wayne said he suspected that the FBI brought a terrorism agent given that local police had alleged that activists set off an explosion that caused his daughter’s injuries. Witnesses have said they believe she was hit by a police concussion grenade.

The timing of the FBI hospital visit in Minneapolis was upsetting, he added. “It was especially disturbing, because Sophia’s blood pressure was going up. She was about to be wheeled into surgery.

Activists at Standing Rock have faced blizzard conditions at the camp during the winter months.

Police have repeatedly painted the anti-pipeline movement as dangerous, which is why JTTF may be involved, Regan said.

“From the very beginning, local law enforcement has attempted to justify its militarized presence … by making false allegations that somehow these water protectors were violent.”

The attorney said it also seemed likely that JTTF may have contacted other US WATER PROTECORS, and said she worried they may not have realized their best option is to remain silent and contact a lawyer.

This is not the first time the JTTF has been tied to an investigation of civil rights protesters. Records from Minnesota suggested that the taskforce monitored a Black Lives Matter demonstration against contaminated water supply in lakes .

For indigenous leaders who have vowed to continue fighting the pipeline on the ground, the FBI investigations and ongoing federal prosecutions have become increasingly worrisome.

It’s particularly troubling to some given the US government’s history of aggressively targeting Native American protesters and turning them into political prisoners.

“This is history repeating itself,” said LaDonna Brave Bull Allard, who founded the first camp opposing the pipeline. “I keep on thinking, how we did come to this point? … When did America stop following the law?”

Brandy-Lee Maxie, a 34-year-old Nakota tribe member from Canada, said it’s difficult not to worry about possible prosecution. But the cause, she said, is too important to give up:

“I’m staying here. Whatever happens to those who stay happens. We’ve just got to keep praying.”
END.

NB: From Ladybbird;

Please do not forget, that the countries we now know as AMERICA & CANADA, (North America), were once part of THE NEW WORLD.

Indians were living in both regions for centuries, before the white immigrants moved in. They were the FIRST ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS! NOT the Mexicans, etc.
They stole land from Mexico and tortured and killed Mexicans and Taino Indians that lived in Mexico..

When Chinese immigrants later arrived in 'America', they were enslaved, as were the Irish and black people > MANY DIED...

"In HISTORY, every great EMPIRE has 'fallen', America will be next.".

Not a surpise TRUMP has changed his mind about CHINA.. > who own most of US ports,, etc.

+ The US can only continue to survive, if CHINA does not recall the loans they have made to the US, over many years..

Remember part of ex-President Obama's final speech.."Let's see how Mr Trump feels, when he becomes President and knows more"..

AND... Note how Mr Trump has slowed down in his rhetoric & reversed nearly ALL of his crazy ideas, since he became President.. ... ...

Simple as that folks...

A Dominican Republic newspaper printed a photo of Hollywood star Alec Baldwin playing President Donald Trump in a story about the real-life US president

El Nacional issued an apology on Saturday for the photo mistake.

It said in Spanish: 'On Friday El Nacional published a photo of actor Alec Baldwin, who imitates the President of the United States on a television program.

'The picture was sent that day by the Associated Press (AP) with the name of the actor and information about the program, but it was placed as if it were the one of Trump, a situation that went unnoticed for all those who reviewed page 19.

'El Nacional apologizes to the readers and to all those who felt affected by the publication.
'Actor Alec Baldwin imitates President Trump on the weekly program Saturday Night Live on the National Broadcasting Company (NBC), one of the most important in the United States.'

Baldwin's appeared in numerous episodes of Saturday Night Live's current season, playing the former reality star-turned-politician.
He is set to host Saturday's episode, which will be his seventeenth time hosting the late-night comedy sketch program.

Trump has previously criticized Baldwin's portrayal of him.
In a December 4 tweet, he wrote:

'Just tried watching Saturday Night Live - unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny and the Baldwin impersonation just can't get any worse. Sad.'

OLDER REPORT C&P into this Thread;

IRELAND >HUGE Surge of Residency Applications From Aussie/UK/US/Canada Because of ISIS Attacks & TRUMP

Irish Central, 23 April 2016

RULES > (Researched by Ladybbird, and valid at the date of this report)...
+ Other Reports from various sources

*** Initially you only have approval to stay for three months.

You are advised to seek residency under a Stamp 0. This is relatively new and is intended for temporary stays and for people who are self-sufficient.

The main features of it are that you cannot work and you cannot be a ‘burden on the State’.

In the end it is quite a simple process after providing proof of your income and bank balance and showing you have private health insurance
and after waiting five weeks for approval.

1. From Oz to Ireland > The Move of a Lifetime

Bob Singer, Irish Central

Ireland is famed for the breadth of its diaspora. Many are ready to start a new life in a new land, but in particular, England, America, Australia and Canada.

Wherever they have gone they have changed these places forever. What’s not so well known though is the indefinable pull Ireland has for people from other lands.

While emigration is driven by survival and economic advancement, immigrants arrive for a host of other reasons, mainly increasing Terror Attacks...

2. Thousands of British seek Irish Passports Amid Fears of More Terror Attacks

Irish passports getting more popular. Many British people fear European ban after June Brexit referendum vote in 2016, + MORE Terror Attacks. Photo by: Irish Echo

The number of British-born people applying for Irish passports on the basis of their ancestry has risen sharply in the past year as fears about Britain leaving the European Union + More Terror Attacks are increasing in the WORLD.

The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that thousands of British citizens who qualify under ancestry rules have applied.

In the last year the number of adults has risen to 3,736, an 11 percent rise. Even at the Irish grandparent level the numbers have risen by 33 percent.

3. Irish island “Overwhelmed” as US Citizens Seek to Relocate if Donald Trump Wins US Presidential ELECTION > He Angers Home-Grown Terrorists + Incites Other Terrorist Groups in The World That Puts Americans in DANGER IN MANY Countries..

Inishturk Island, off County Mayo, "swamped" with inquiries from US citizens considering relocating if Republican wins Presidency.

Leaders on of one of Ireland's remotest islands have told how they've been "overwhelmed" with interest from US citizens who are keen to relocate there in the event of Donald Trump becoming the next US President.

Inishturk, off Co. Mayo, has seen its once thriving population plummet to just 58 in recent years. There are only three pupils attending the local primary school.

The idyllic isle's community leaders have been actively trying to entice families to move there to breathe new life into the Atlantic outpost and help secure its future.

But it looks like the tranquil island, located nine miles off the coast, could now be set for a much-needed population boost if the billionaire Republican 'front-runner', Donald Trump becomes the next President of the US ... Americans are worried/scared

Administrators on the island said they've been "swamped" with inquiries from US citizens who are considering relocating there in the event of Trump winning the next election.

The Irish do NOT trust him..

Joe Whelan, a ferryman and shop worker who also helps run the island's official website, said:

"We've been swamped with hundreds and hundreds of messages ever since the story was published in Irish Central.

"It's been impossible to answer every message, so we've put together a list of answers to 'frequently asked questions' on things like accommodation, employment and visas.

Whelan said he hopes that once the media frenzy has died down, a number of families would still seriously consider making the move to the island.

He also said he hoped the publicity would help generate a bumper tourism summer season for Inish turk this year.

This would be great for the U.S. and Trump wouldn't need the travel ban.

People that said they were gonna leave if Trump was elected are now saying "aaah we was just kidding". Darn I'd like to see some of them leave but I don't think nobody else will have them.....

US Army Veterans Return to Standing Rock to Form a Human Shield Against Police

A growing group of military veterans are willing to put their bodies between Native American activists and the police trying to remove them.

'We’ve stood in the face of fire before. We feel a responsibility to use the skills we have'

The Independent UK, 13 February 2017

US army veterans are returning to Standing Rock to protect Dakota Access pipeline protesters amid violent clashes with the police.

Native American activists are camped near the construction site and some hope the veterans could make it harder for police to remove them.

“We are prepared to put our bodies between Native elders and a privatised military force,” air force veteran Elizabeth Williams told The Guardian.

“We’ve stood in the face of fire before. We feel a responsibility to use the skills we have.”

Police used water hoses and tear gas, and one canister badly damaged the arm of a female protester.

Hundreds of people were arrested.

Native American protesters vowed they would not back down after Trump signed his executive order, overturning decisions made by Barack Obama to halt the construction of the pipeline.

It is opposed by a Native American tribe fearful of water contamination from potential oil leaks.

So far, military veteran organisation Veterans Stand has raised more then $200,000 for a renewed campaign effort against the controversial oil pipeline.

The group will use the money to send supplies to the reservation to help protesters and those who will be affected by the construction of the $3.7bn pipeline.

The growing group of military veterans could make it harder for police and government officials to try to remove hundreds of activists who remain camped near the construction site and, some hope, could limit use of excessive force by law enforcement during demonstrations.

“We are prepared to put our bodies between Native elders and a privatized military force,” said Elizabeth Williams, a 34-year-old air force veteran, who arrived at Standing Rock with a group of vets late on Friday. “We’ve stood in the face of fire before. We feel a responsibility to use the skills we have.”

It is unclear how many vets may arrive to Standing Rock; some organizers estimate a few dozen are on their way, while other activists are pledging that hundreds more could show up in the coming weeks.

Demonstrators also plan to assemble near Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate to protest his decision.

I am glad to see our vets stand with them. It's a crying shame after all our native Indians have been put through the past few hundred years, being run off their land, massacred and made to spend their lives on federally granted reservations just to be walked on all over again and again. Some times I wonder how this nation of the U.S. got to be so blessed with all the evil in our government. One thing I do know is our government is sooooo good at putting blinders on the citizens of America. People just don't think for themselves anymore but just listen to all the fake news on the idiot boxes (TV), being just like sheep lid to the slaughter.

It is disgraceful and after many of the VETs were brutally removed/arrested, some have left the protest..

EXCLUSIVE: 'We Will Not Stop Fighting to Protect OUR Lands.'
Chairman of Standing Rock Tribe says President Trump Never Consulted him Before Signing Executive Order Reviving the Dakota Access Pipeline

  • Chairman of the tribe, Dave Archambault II, said it was 'unfortunate' that the President intended to take action today to advance construction
  • 'It's about looking at what's been here in this nation and who has been paying the cost for the economics,' he added
  • Barack Obama had halted the progress of the Dakota pipeline in early December
  • President Trump reversed Obama's decision, signing an executive action on Tuesday to forge ahead with construction of the Dakota Access pipeline
  • Archambault said he should have been consulted by the new administration
  • Activists had spent months on the land protesting the $3.8 billion pipeline which they believe will endanger the tribe's water supply and lands
  • Between 700 and 800 people remain at the protest camp in North Dakota despite the treacherous winter weather warnings
Daily Mail UK, 12 March 2017

The chairman of Standing Rock Sioux tribe told DailyMail.com that they have been given no opportunity to speak with the Trump administration about their concerns over the Dakota Access Pipeline and said it was 'unfortunate' that the President took action today to advance construction.
Dave Archambault II told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview: 'It's unfortunate that he's taken a look at only one side.
'It's not just about energy economics or providing jobs for the masses but it's about looking at what's been here in this nation and who has been paying the cost for the economics.

'We are not opposed to economic development but we are opposed to paying the cost so that this nation can benefit.
'I was hoping I would be able to help him understand but I was never given the opportunity to share our concerns and to help him understand why there has been resistance to this pipeline.'

Trump signed an executive action to forge ahead with construction of the Dakota Access pipeline.

Activists had spent months at the Oceti Sakowin camp on the land of the Standing Rock tribe in North Dakota protesting the $3.8 billion pipeline which they believe will endanger the tribe's water supply and lands.

Barack Obama had halted the progress of the Dakota pipeline in early December. Obama also rejected Transcanada Corp's Keystone XL oil pipeline in 2015 after environmentalists campaigned against the project for more than seven years.

He said: 'That's what I don't think the Trump administration understands about the concerns that we have.
'We will continue to build awareness and to try to help this nation understand what is important to us.
'My mission has always been to provide the best future for children who have not yet been born and to do the best we can.'

Quote:

A TIMELINE OF EVENTS SURROUNDING THE DAKOTA ACCESS PIPELINE

December 2014: Energy Transfer Partners LP apply to build a $3.8billion pipeline crossing North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois that would carry 570,000 barrels of crude oil a day

March 11, 2016: Iowa is the last of the four states to approve the pipeline after the state's utilities board unanimously voted for it. The Environmental Protection Agency also sends a letter to the US Army Corp of Engineer to perform an environmental assessment

April 1, 2016: About 200 tribal members from a number of Native American nations stage a protest on horseback. They oppose the pipeline passing through burial sites and land sacred to the Standing Rock Sioux and worry the project will contaminate their drinking water

April 29, 2016: Standing Rock Sioux send a petition to the Army Corps of Engineers, the federal agency overseeing the project, and demand a more thorough environmental impact study

July 26, 2016: The Corp of Engineers approves the most of the final permits, including land easements and 200 water crossings. A spokeswoman for the project says construction can move forward 'in all areas as quickly as possible'

July 27, 2016: The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe files a lawsuit against the Corp of Engineers

August 1, 2016: About $1million worth of equipment is intentionally torched along the DAPL route in Iowa, police say

August 24, 2016: The Standing Rock Sioux brought their case before a federal district judge, saying the government did not consult them on the route of the pipeline. Federal attorneys said the tribe declined the chance to assess the pipeline with them, while Archambault later said they had met with Energy Transfer and explicitly stated their opposition

September 3, 2016: At least six protesters are attacked by guard dogs belonging to a private security company, while dozens more are hit with pepper spray, according to tribe spokesperson Steve Sitting Bear

September 6, 2016: Brian Cladoosby, president of the National Congress of American Indians, makes an appeal to President Barack Obama's advisers to support the Standing Rock Sioux

September 9, 2016: A federal judge rules against the Standing Rock Sioux's request to half construction of the DAPL, but the US Justice and Interior Departments and Army issue an order later that day to halt construction

October 9, 2016: The Standing Rock Sioux's appeal is shot down in federal court, which rules the DAPL can continue construction

October 10, 2016: Actress Shailene Woodleyis arrested for trespassing and engaging in a riot while protesting the pipeline

October 27, 2016:
Officers in riot gear fire bean bags and pepper spray in clashes that result in around 140 arrests. A protest coordinator claimed he was held in a mesh enclosure that appeared to be a dog kennel, which the Morton County Sheriff's Department called 'temporary holding cells (chain link fences)'

October 31, 2016: Supporters mobilize on Facebook, checking into Standing Rock through the social media platform to confuse law enforcement, who were said to be gathering information on protesters, although the sheriff's department said that was 'absolutely false'

November 8, 2016: Energy Transfer Partners LP says the pipeline has reached Lake Oahe

November 17, 2016: The Corps of Engineers says it plans to 'revise its regulations' to ensure its consultations with sovereign tribes are 'confirmed by the U.S. Constitution, treaties, statutes, executive orders, judicial decisions and presidential documents and policies'

November 20, 2016: Authorities use water cannons and rubber bullets on protesters. Sophia Wilansky, a 21-year-old New Yorker, is airlifted to a hospital in Minneapolis after her left hand and arm was injured in an explosion. Her father claims a member of law enforcement threw an object at her which exploded, but law enforcement suggested fellow protesters were to blame

November 25, 2016: Citing safety concerns, the Corps of Engineers say anyone found north of the Cannonball River, which includes the Oceti Sakowin camp, after December 5, could be prosecuted with trespassing. Protest organizers said it was unlikely they would leave

November 28, 2016: North Dakota's Governor Jack Dalrymple orders an emergency evacuation of Dakota Access pipeline protesters, citing harsh winter conditions

December 4, 2016: About 2,000 veterans arrive, saying they will carry on and give protesters who have engaged in the standoff for months a break

December 4, 2016: Obama halts progress of the pipeline. The US Army Corps of Engineers will not grant an easement allowing the pipeline's construction half a mile south of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation

NB: Trump has a financial interest in the DAKOTA ACCESS PIPELINE going ahead.......

UPDATE;

Keystone XL Oil Pipeline Will NOT use American Steel, Despite Donald Trump’s Pledge...

The Keystone XL oil pipeline will not use American steel, seemingly contrary to a Donald Trump election pledge.

AP. 12 March 2017

The White House has claimed this is due to the language used in a presidential directive, which applies to new pipelines or those under repair.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House spokeswoman, has said it would be difficult for US steel to be used on the Keystone pipeline as it is already under construction.

As recently as last week, Mr Trump had pledged that the Dakota Access pipeline and Keystone would not be built unless American steel was used.

The company responsible for building Keystone, TransCanada, has said the majority of the steel would come from North America, which includes Canada and Mexico.

Soon after taking office, Mr Trump used his executive powers to restart the two pipeline projects that had been blocked by his predecessor, Barack Obama.

The Keystone pipeline will run from Canada to refineries in the Gulf Coast.

It was commissioned in 2010 and has attracted a range of environmental protests. The pipeline was rejected by Mr Obama.

'Trump Slump' is Real and Has Made Bookings Fall by a Third, Warns Emirates Boss

Exclusive: Sir Tim Clark uncertain when sales will recover as concerns over divisive ‘Muslim travel ban’ grow

The Independent UK, 12 March 2017...

The first confirmed effect on flight bookings to the United States since President Trump first issued a travel ban has been revealed by the boss of the giant Dubai-based airline Emirates.

Within a week of his inauguration, the new President issued a controversial executive order banning nationals from seven mainly Muslim countries from the US.

Sir Tim Clark said that travel ban triggered a immediate fall in booking rates from Dubai to the US of over one-third.

Speaking at the ITB travel fair in Berlin, Sir Tim said: “The first US travel order saw the booking velocity fall by 35 per cent overnight. The effect it had was instantaneous.”

Since then, he said, bookings had regained some ground but were still not back to the predicted levels.

“When will it recapture the original booking curve is anyone's guess,” he said.

Previous surveys citing a “Trump slump” have been based on online searches, rather than actual sales. Emirates has a massive presence on US routes, with at least 10 flights a day to a range of cities - including three daily A380 “Superjumbo” services to New York.

Yet at the same travel fair a day earlier, one of Sir Tim’s rivals had claimed the travel ban had had no effect.

Akbar Al Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways, told The Independent: “My business is to make sure that when I deploy my aeroplanes they are full, and that passengers are able to go in and out of the country.

“We didn’t see any drop in traffic. We haven’t seen any drop in demand for our flights to the United States,” he said.

IAG, which includes British Airways and the Spanish airline Iberia, revealed that last month business to North America lagged behind the global performance. While passenger numbers to the US and Canada rose by 1.4 per cent compared with a year earlier, that was only half the average growth worldwide.

The average “load factor” – the proportion of seats occupied – fell by 2.6 per cent to North America, against a global increase of 0.6 per cent on February 2016. That corresponds to eight fewer passengers on a Boeing 777 typically used on routes from the UK to the US.

Last month Dara Khosrowshahi, president and chief executive of travel giant Expedia, said: “We have seen an effect on trading on a short-term basis. The weekend of the executive order, certainly we saw a negative effect on trading.”

But he added: “We haven’t seen any meaningful effect at this point, which is good news. We’ll be watching it closely.”

Officials seeking to market the city of Chicago to both domestic and foreign tourists have faced an uphill struggle after a series of tweets from President Trump.

The state of Illinois has launched an expensive ad campaign with the slogan “Are you up for Amazing?” But the spend is up against tweets from the nation’s leader about the murder rate in Chicago, which Mr Trump described as “carnage”.

The Canadian island of Cape Breton, part of Nova Scotia, has reported a surge in interest from American visitors since it set up the website cbiftrumpwins.com, ahead of the presidential election. Bookings rose 16 per cent, year on year. The website promises visitors: “In Cape Breton, we value diversity! Here, you can hear a number of other languages, like French and Mi'kmaq, even Gaelic! But everybody also speaks English, just like you!”

An Algorithm That Predicts Relationship Status With 86 per cent Accuracy, has Decided President Trump is Single

President's late-night rants led the computer to identify him as 'not married'...

The Independent UK, 12 March 2017

President Donald Trump’s erratic Twitter habits led a sophisticated computer algorithm to conclude that he lives “like a bachelor”.

The artificial intelligence system, which is used to predict the marital status of social media accounts and claims to have an 86 per cent accuracy rate, identified Mr Trump as “not married”.

The algorithm was developed by researchers at ITMO University in St Petersburg and the National University of Singapore, who trained the computer through machine learning to analyse data from Twitter, Instagram and Foursquare.

In order to predict marital status the programme looks at parameters such as tweet length, the kinds of images frequently posted, and check-in distribution.

In an experiment presented to an artificial intelligence conference San Francisco, researchers collected and analysed the social media accounts of Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

Using this data, the AI correctly guessed that Mr Obama was married.

According to the developers, the inconsistency can be explained by the President’s bachelor-like tendency for tweeting late at night, and the fact that his assistants often update his account on his behalf.

“We all know about his wife Melania,” said Andrey Filchenkov, associate professor of Computer Technology Department at ITMO.

“But in this case, we are studying whether all Trump’s assistants are married or not. We are not guessing who Trump is, but who runs his social media.”

The experiment was designed to predict future trends in “making human psychological portraits.”

'Many scientific sources associate a person's psychological type with his marital status,' said Kseniya Buraya, a co-author of the paper.

It has recently been suggested that Mr Trump’s own presidential campaign used sophisticated user profiling technology to target voters.

Zurich publication Das Magazin has claimed that Cambridge Analytica, a company hired by the Trump campaign during the election, used highly sophisticated "data modelling and psychographic profiling" techniques in order to more accurately target certain demographics with political advertising.
END.

NB; Trump's 'wife' Melania has already announced she will NOT move to the White House......

Ukranian Businessman with Links to Donald Trump and Russia Dies in Unexplained Circumstances

Alex Oronov, who had family ties to President's lawyer, reportedly organised a meeting with TRUMP, aimed at helping give Russian President control of Crimea...

The Independent UK, 12 March 2017

A Ukranian-born millionaire businessman with links to Donald Trump has reportedly died in unexplained circumstances.

Alex Oronov, a 69-year-old naturalised American citizen who ran an agricultural business in his native Ukraine, died on 2 March, according to a Facebook post by Ukranian politician Andrii Artemenko.

Mr Oronov is reported to have set up a secret meeting between Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen – to whom he had family ties - and Russian officials where a “peace plan” is said to have been hatched to give Russian President Vladimir Putin control of the Crimea.

Mr Cohen is understood to have an extensive network of personal and business relationships in the Ukranian-American community – and his associates included Mr Oronov, a partner in the ethanol business the lawyer’s brother, Bryan, set up in Ukraine.

The “peace plan” meeting brought together Mr Artemenko, Mr Cohen and Felix Sater, an American-Russian long-time business associate of Mr Trump who is reported to have ties to the Russian mafia.

Details of this meeting are believed to have ended up on the desk of Michael Flynn, Mr Trump’s former security adviser who was forced to resign last month over his alleged secret dealings with Russian officials.

The New York Times – which Mr Trump has repeatedly accused of producing “fake news” - reported the meeting between Mr Artemenko, Mr Cohen and Mr Slater.

In his lengthy Facebook post, Mr Artemenko describes himself as a pawn in a diplomatic game and said the stress created by the article and the negative attention that followed the article was too much for Mr Oronov.

The post, written in Russian, translates loosely: “Yes, I’m guilty... Alex Oronov, my partner, my friend, my mentor, Alex was a family member of Michael Cohen. And he organised all kinds of stuff, including an introduction and a meeting for me with Michael Cohen.”

It adds: “Unfortunately, his heart could not endure it. He died... Friend, your death will not have been in vain, nor will the deaths of tens of thousands of Ukranians and Russians, Alex Oronov, during this wild, undeclared war! Rest in peace and forgive me if you can, as difficult as that may be!”

The Ukrainian MP points the finger of blame at “overexertion, the nerves, from injustice, from suspicion, from sorrow of misunderstanding”.

The remembrance website legacy.com has a listing for Alex Oronov of New York, with dates that match those of the businessman.

One friend and business associate has so far left a tribute on the site, which reads: “Alex had a huge heart and he did a lot for those who were part of his family and part of his company.”

Conspiracy theorists have pointed to a number of recent deaths of Russian diplomats in the past four months.

Russia’s permanent ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, died last month in New York after suddenly becoming ill on his way to work the day before his 65th birthday.

It was initially reported he had suffered a heart attack but an autopsy proved inconclusive.

The Russian Consul in Athens, Andrei Malanin, 55, was found dead on the floor of his apartment in Greece in January. Greek police said there was no evidence of a break-in and he was believed to have died of natural causes.

Russia’s Ambassador to India, Alexander Kadakin, 67, was reported to have died of heart failure in January after a “brief illness” according to Indian media.

Russian diplomat Sergei Krivov, 63, was found unconscious having suffered severe head injuries at the Russian consulate in New York on US election day.

According to BuzzFeed, Mr Krivov was initially said to have fallen to his death following a suspected heart attack, but a subsequent report from medical examiners was inconclusive.

Mr Krivov is believed to have been responsible for the security of the consul from American intelligence, although he was initially said to have been “a security guard”.

The Russian ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, was assassinated in Ankara by a policeman at a photography exhibition on 19 December and another diplomat, Peter Polshikov, was shot dead in his Moscow apartment on the same day.

Former KGB chief Oleg Erovinkin, who was suspected of helping British spy Christopher Steele draft a dossier on Donald Trump, was found dead in the back of his car last Boxing Day.

Mr Erovinkin was also an aide to former deputy prime minister Igor Sechin, who now heads up state-owned oil company Rosneft and is said to have been named in the dossier.

His death was initially reported as a suspected murder – but officials later claimed he had died of a heart attack.

GCHQ, UK, Dismisses 'Utterly Ridiculous' Claims it Helped Wiretap Trump...

British intelligence agency responds to allegations – repeated by White House press secretary Sean Spicer – that it helped Barack Obama...

The Guardian UK, 17 March 2017.

British intelligence officials have denied an allegation that the UK helped former president Barack Obama “wiretap” Donald Trump during the 2016 election.

The claim was repeated by the White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, on Thursday and dismissed as “utterly ridiculous” by a GCHQ spokesperson.

The spokesperson added in a statement: “Recent allegations made by media commentator judge Andrew Napolitano about GCHQ being asked to conduct ‘wiretapping’ against the then president-elect are nonsense. They are utterly ridiculous and should be ignored.”

This week, Napolitano, Fox News judicial analyst, claimed during an interview on the network that three intelligence sources confirmed to him that the Obama administration used GCHQ to spy on Trump so that there would be “no American fingerprints on this”.

Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, quoted Napolitano’s allegation in an effort to validate Trump’s unfounded claim that Obama tapped his phones last year.

LIES, LIES, and more lies..

British and American intelligence agencies cooperate closely. Along with their counterparts from Australia, New Zealand and Canada, they are members of the Five Eyes, which all work together on intelligence. According to documents released by the whistleblower Edward Snowden, British officials allowed their US counterparts to store and analyse British citizens’ internet and email records. And Snowden also revealed that America’s National Security Agency paid £100m to GCHQ in secret.

Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrats – the junior partner in the last British coalition government – said Trump was

“compromising the vital UK-US security relationship to try to cover his own embarrassment, his statements appear to be unbalanced, for world peace”.

Trump started the political firestorm in a series of tweets in early March, when he accused Obama of tapping his phones and called his predecessor a “bad (or sick) guy”. US officials called the allegation groundless.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted on 4 March.

The US president finds himself increasingly alone in his defence of his wiretapping claims. On Thursday, the Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate intelligence committee joined their counterparts on the House intelligence committee in the conclusion that they had seen no evidence to support the president’s accusation.

During the briefing, Spicer said Trump “stands by it” and emphasised, as he has attempted to do in recent days, that the president was referring broadly to wiretapping as a range of surveillance-related activities. Trump made a similar argument in a Wednesday night interview on Fox News, telling the interview host, Tucker Carlson, that the word wiretap “covers surveillance and many other things”.

He also told Carlson that the administration would submit evidence of his claim to the House intelligence panel “very soon”, adding: “You’re going to find some very interesting items coming to the forefront over the next two weeks.”

In the same interview, he wrongly cited a New York Times report in January about intercepted communications and financial records concerning Trump associates and Russian officials as supporting his claim. Asked why he had not relied on US intelligence for a claim with extraordinary legal implications, Trump offered a quixotic reply:

Because I don’t want to do anything that’s going to violate any strength of an agency.”

There you have it people.. Maybe the biggest & most dangerous head of a country, that once used to fight to protect the "Free World"....is more dangerous than many..

McDonald's CEO's Twitter Account Calls Donald Trump 'Disgusting Excuse of a President With Tiny Hands'

The Twitter message has since disappeared and McDonald's said its' Account had been Compromised/DELETED by Trump's Admin Team.

The Independent UK, 17 March 2017.

McDonald's called Donald Trump a "disgusting excuse for a President" with "tiny hands", in a message on Twitter.

The post, now deleted, also said that the company "would love to have Barack Obama back".....

Quote:

Trump is a lonely man trying to make the US a better success than he did in his business.. with over 300 court cases still pending against him..

.

The company claimed that the tweet, sent from its corporate Twitter, was posted because the account was hacked into......

"Twitter notified us that our account was compromised," the account posted after removing the problem post. "We deleted the tweet, secured our account and are now investigating this."

In full, McDonald's account posted a tweet addressed directly as the President reading: "You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have Barack Obama back, also you have tiny hands".

Before the message was deleted, it received hundreds of retweets and was pinned to the top of the McDonald's page.

The message was sent from the @McDonaldsCorp account, which exists mostly to post about the company itself. With only 151,000 followers, it is much smaller than the main McDonald's account, which exists at @McDonalds and has 3.4 million followers.

The President is thought to be a fan of McDonald's. Last year, he posted that he was celebrating getting to the 1,237 delegates needed to be the Republican candidate for president by eating a burger from the restaurant, which included a tiny bottle of Diet Coke as well as a Big Mac & their 'chips'.

Important re: TRUMP -LATEST-US 1st 'Lady' >Ex-Porn Star/Illegal Immigrant Caught in GAFF Photo

Donald Trump Could Be Removed From Office, (Without Impeaching Him), Due to a Little Known Clause in Constitution

Under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment which allows Congress to form its own body to evaluate the President’s fitness for office without impeaching him.

The 25th Amendment was originally adopted in 1967 and establishes the procedure where by the Vice-President succeeds the President if he or she is incapacitated, dies in office or impeached.

Irish Central, 25 March 2017

The Amendment clause, drafted by a son of Irish immigrants, says:

Quote:

"Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President".

Donald Trump's Presidency Could be Finished by Russia Investigations, Former NSA Analyst Says

'The administration isn’t getting away from this story'

John Schindler, a security expert and former counterintelligence officer, said that if the US President was to face an indictment over allegations his campaign team colluded with Russia to disrupt the presidential election, it could put an end to his presidency.

Carl Bernstein, one of the journalists who broke the Watergate scandal, claimed the US President was involved in a “cover up” to hide connections between members of his campaign team and Russia.

Donald Trump addresses a joint session of Congress on 28 February Getty

There are two ways that Congress can force Mr Trump out of office.

One way would be to appoint a panel of independent medical practitioners to judge the health of US presidents.
They say: “Former president Jimmy Carter has been a strong advocate for this approach, noting the advanced age and poor health of many U.S. presidents.

“Since the 1990s, Carter has expressed particular concern about the conflict of interests faced by the personal physicians to the President, who might otherwise be tasked with making a determination about medical fitness.”

He said the doctors were often very close to their President and may be willing to play down health issues to help their friends – his own physician was also his tennis partner during his administration.

The other way would be for Congress to appoint a body with no medical expertise because the 25th Amendment’s wording was purposefully left vague to allow the House to decide how to interpret the criteria for the President being “unfit to serve” itself.

If it decided Mr Trump was unable to be trusted with classified information by intelligence agencies, for instance, it could deem him “unable to discharge the powers or duties of his office”.

Despite Mr Trump’s noticeably erratic behaviour over the past few months, ...

which prompted 35 mental health professionals to write an open letter to The New York Times saying he showed signs of “grave emotional instability” ....

This is still unlikely.

President Trump is Barking MAD.

By Dana Milbank Opinion writer. Washington Post

The most worrisome moments for me in a very ominous time since Trump took power, was not President Trump’s bizarre rant about crowd size, his bogus claims about election fraud or his moves toward bringing back torture, blocking refugees and provoking a trade war with Mexico.

The most troubling moment was when he spoke about the weather;

Quote:

“It was almost raining,” the new president told CIA workers in Langley, recounting his inaugural address, “but God looked down and he said, we’re not going to let it rain on your speech. In fact, when I first started, I said, oh, no. The first line, I got hit by a couple of drops. And I said, oh, this is too bad, but we’ll go right through it. But the truth is that it stopped immediately. It was amazing. And then it became really sunny. And then I walked off and it poured right after I left. It poured.”

.
..

Really sunny? I was there for the inaugural address, in the sixth row, about 40 feet from Trump, and I remembered the exact opposite: It began to rain when he started and tapered off toward the end. There wasn’t a single ray of sunshine, before, during or after the speech. Was my memory playing tricks on me?

This disconnect from reality is my biggest fear about Trump, more than any one policy he has proposed. My worry is the president of the United States is barking mad.

Last summer, observing a series of Trump falsehoods that were easily disproved, I wrote that these may not be deliberate “lies,” that Trump “may not be able to tell fact from fiction.” He didn’t just spout conspiracy theories about Muslims celebrating in New Jersey on 9/11, or about a U.S. general who executed Muslim prisoners with bullets dipped in pig blood. He often claimed he never said or did things contradicted by his own previous words and actions: that he didn’t “know anything about David Duke,” that he “never mocked” a disabled reporter, that he opposed the Iraq invasion “loud and strong” from the start, and so forth.

“More than anyone else I have ever met,” Tony Schwartz, Trump’s ghostwriter for “The Art of the Deal,” told the New Yorker’s Jane Mayer at the time, “Trump has the ability to convince himself that whatever he is saying at any given moment is true, or sort of true, or at least ought to be true.”

My Post colleague Jennifer Rubin, a conservative blogger, picked up on this theme in an important post this week, recalling Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Tex.) description of Trump as somebody who “doesn’t know the difference between truth and lies” and “his response is to accuse everybody else of lying.”

Rubin raised the prospect that Trump might eventually need to be declared unfit to serve under the 25th Amendment if he can’t “separate what he wants to believe and what exists.”

That’s why his assertion that it was “really sunny” during his inaugural address is so terrifying.

That’s why it’s unnerving that Trump not only decided that he saw 1 million or 1.5 million people watching his inauguration but also that he pressured the head of the National Park Service to support his fantasy.

That’s why it’s frightening not only that Trump embraces the fantasy that millions voted illegally but also that he supports the falsehood by citing a Pew Center on the States report that says nothing about voter fraud — and by claiming pro golfer Bernhard Langer was turned away from voting in Florida while other, suspicious-looking people were permitted to cast provisional ballots. Langer, a German citizen, can’t vote in the United States, and it turns out he witnessed no such thing.

When Trump caused international havoc with tweets about China, North Korea and others, there was speculation that he was pursuing the “madman theory” to unsettle adversaries by making them think he’s crazy.

He’s doing such a convincing job of it that I worry that being a madman isn’t Trump’s theory but his reality.

Daily Mail UK, 25 March 2017

Hollywood couldn't resist celebrating as House Republicans and the President failed to repeal and replace Obamacare, one of Trump's campaign promises.

Trump blamed Democrats in Congress for the embarrassing defeat on Friday after Republicans were forced to cancel a vote on their health care bill, and Twitter essentially exploded.

With an array of tweets from Hollywood's elite, celebrities pointed out that it seems like Trump isn't very good at his job, and for someone who is used having HIS way.....
he hasn't so much in his first few months in the White House.....

Bette Midler was one of the first to tweet about the fail - posting a picture of a rubber glove who appears to be giving the middle finger and writing: 'Found outside Trump Tower' .....

Keith Olbermann posted a meme that's been circling the 'twittersphere' for a few days now - a cutout of President Trump driving a toy car. He also congradulated the president on his 'complete and utter failure on repealing ObamaCare, and called him a loser ...

Bank That Lent $300m to Trump Linked to Russian Money Laundering Scam

Deutsche Bank among western institutions that processed billions of dollars in cash of ‘criminal origin’ through Latvia

The Guardian UK, 25 March 2017.

German bank that loaned $300m (£260m) to Donald Trump played a prominent role in a money laundering scandal run by Russian criminals with ties to the Kremlin, the Guardian can reveal.

Deutsche Bank is one of dozens of western financial institutions that processed at least $20bn – and possibly more – in money of “criminal origin” from Russia.

The scheme, dubbed “the Global Laundromat”, ran from 2010 to 2014.

Law enforcement agencies are investigating how a group of politically well-connected Russians were able to use UK-registered companies to launder billions of dollars in cash. The companies made fictitious loans to each other, underwritten by Russian businesses.

The companies would default on these “debts”. Judges in Moldova then made court rulings enforcing judgments against the firms. This allowed Russian bank accounts to transfer huge sums to Moldova legally. From there, the money went to accounts in Latvia with Trasta Komercbanka.

Deutsche, Germany’s biggest lender, acted as a “correspondent bank” for Trasta until 2015. This meant Deutsche provided dollar-denominated services to Trasta’s non-resident Russian clients. This service was used to move money from Latvia to banks across the world.

During this period many Wall Street banks got out of Latvia, citing concerns that the small Baltic country had become a centre for international money laundering, especially from neighbouring Russia.

In 2013, and under US regulatory pressure, JP Morgan Chase ceased providing dollar clearing services to the country.

From 2014, only two western lenders were willing to accept international dollar transfers from Latvian banks. They were Deutsche and Germany’s Commerzbank. Deutsche eventually withdrew correspondent services to Trasta Bank in September 2015.

Six months later, Latvian regulators shut down the bank. They cited repeated violations, and said the bank had failed to deal with its money laundering risk.

Latvia’s deputy finance minister, Maija Treija, said the money sent via Trasta was “either stolen or with criminal origin”.

The defunct bank was being used as vehicle to get money out of the ex-Soviet Union and “into the EU financial system”, she added.

Deutsche said it had significantly strengthened its systems and controls. It said that by the end of this year it will have hired more than 1,000 new staff in its compliance and anti-financial crime unit since 2015.

It added: “The bank has comprehensively reviewed its client onboarding and know-your-client processes and where necessary is exiting higher risk client relationships and markets.”

Commerzbank said it could not comment on its relationships with other banks. It said it put a high value on compliance. It said that suspicious transactions picked up during routine monitoring were reported to the authorities.

Deutche Bank ended its relationship with Trasta soon after Latvia’s regulator issued a warning, it is understood. In August 2015, the Financial and Capital Markets Commission stopped all transactions above €100,000.

Deutsche severed its relationship with the other key Laundromat bank - Moldova’s Moldindconbank – in 2012.

Ties with Russia are a matter of acute sensitivity for Deutsche. In February, it emerged that Deutsche had secretly reviewed multiple loans made to President Trump by its private wealth division to see if there was a connection to Russia. Trump owes Deutsche about $300m.

Deutsche refused to comment on its internal review. Sources say the bank discovered no evidence of any Moscow link. That covers other members of the US president’s family who are also Deutsche clients. They include Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, her husband, Jared Kushner, and Kushner’s mother, Seryl Stadtmauer.

In January, the UK and US imposed record $630m fines on Deutsche for its role in another money laundering scam run out of its Moscow office. The bank failed to prevent $10bn of Russian money being laundered in a complex “mirror trades” operation. The wealthy Russians that used the scheme have not been identified.

Deutsche’s Private Bank – the division that lends to Trump – appears in the Global Laundromat scheme. Sources suggest that many of its clients are rich Russians, typically with personal assets of $50m-plus. According to Germany’s Süddeutsche Zeitung, Deutsche processed more than $24m of Laundromat cash in 209 transactions.

Records obtained by the Organized Crime and Corruption Project (OCCRP) and Novaya Gazeta from anonymous sources show how the money was spent. Much of it vanished into opaque offshore companies. Some of it went on luxury items including diamonds, leather jackets, and home-cinema equipment.

One of Deutsche’s high net worth customers blew €500,000 at Mahlberg, a German jewellery firm. The payment in January 2013 was made by Seabon Limited, a Laundromat company registered in Tooley Street, London. More than $9bn was funnelled via Seabon, records show.

Almost €1m went to a Munich electronics firm, Rohde & Schwarz, which produces surveillance technology for security services and police.

Often, the explanation for high-volume payments was fake. The money spent on watches was marked down on the bank wire transfer as a payment for “computer equipment”.

Another $500,000 payment was made to a London fur broker, Gideon Bartfeld. Bartfeld said the money had arrived from Deutsche Bank New York, before being sent on to the Bank of New York Mellon, which paid the invoice. Trasta – the bank that first sent the money to Deutsche – did not appear in any paperwork, he added.

Bartfeld said the payment came via two “highly reputable and respected” global banks. He said: “Consequently, we received this payment in full confidence [as they] were satisfied that the payment met their rigorous due diligence and compliance requirements.”

The fur trader said he had known many of his Russian clients for years. His main markets were Russia and China, he added. There is no suggestion that Bartfeld or Mahlberg or Rohde & Schwarz were involved in wrongdoing.

Vladimir Putin has diverted a warship to protect the Syrian coast and vowed to bolster Bashar al-Assad's missile defences against further US strikes as fears grew the crisis could topple into war between Russia and the West.

The Russian President has immediately sent his Admiral Grigorovich frigate - armed with cruise missiles and a self-defence system - from the Black Sea to dock in Syria later.

Russian warship the Admiral Grigorovich (pictured on recent deployment) - armed with cruise missiles and a self-defence system - is docking in Syria today after it was immediately diverted from the Black Sea following Donald Trump's airstrike on al-Shayrat military airfield near Homs, which killed six and destroyed nine Syrian jets

It will pass through the east Mediterranean waters where the USS Ross and USS Porter fired the 59 Tomahawk missiles that pounded Assad's al-Shayrat military airfield near Homs in the early hours of Friday.

Putin today called the US action an 'illegal act of aggression' and also ripped up an agreement to avoid mid-air clashes between Russian and US fighter jets over Syria.

Pentagon officials said that the airfield was being used to store chemical weapons and was a base for Syrian air forces - including the aircraft that conducted the chemical weapons attack.

Syria's state agency SANA claimed that the missiles killed nine civilians, including four children, even though the bombarded the airbase in the middle of the night. There were reports nine Syrian jets were destroyed.

The Pentagon has released dramatic footage of its missiles being launched from USS Ross, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, targeting the Syrian base.
Putin this morning denounced the strike as an 'act of aggression against a UN member' and suspended a deal to avoid mid-air clashes with American fighter jets over the war-torn country. The Kremlin's propaganda machine clicked into hear claiming the strikes had 'extremely low' military effectiveness and that just 23 of 59 cruise missiles reached the air base, destroying six Syrian jets but leaving the runway intact.

Syrian Army officials called the US airstrike a act of 'blatant aggression', saying it had made America 'a partner' of ISIS, the ex-Nusra Front and other 'terrorist organisations'.

The US used a special military-to-military hotline to warn Russia it was launching an airstrike on a Syrian air base about 30 minutes in advance - but the Trump administration did not ask Moscow for permission. It is likely Russia alerted the Syrians about the incoming strikes but this has not been confirmed.

Viktor Ozerov, head of the defense committee in the Russian Federation Council, told state news agency RIA that the US strikes 'may undermine the efforts in the fight against terrorism in Syria.'
'Russia will demand an urgent UN Security Council meeting after the US airstrike on Syrian aviation base. This is an act of aggression against a UN member.'

Russia's foreign minister says no Russian servicemen have been hurt in the bombing raid. Its security council said it regretted the 'harm' done to relations between Washington and Moscow.

A Pentagon official told DailyMail.com that the president 'is dead-set against letting Assad labor under the illusion that the Syrian army can murder innocent people with impunity.'

Smoke could be seen rising from the Homs airbase targeted by US missile strikes. The military action has already sparked a furious response from President Vladimir Putin, who this morning called the airstrikes an 'illegal act of aggression'

Syrian soldiers have returned to the airbase today - along with emergency services. At least six have died in the blasts

The runway was cratered and damaged but not all of it was destroyed, these photographs appear to show

Target: In the early hours of this morning the strikes were launched from two US destroyers in the Med and have killed at least five and destroyed at least nine Syrian jets, a fuel store and badly damaged the runway at al-Shayrat airbase

Aerial pictures show the airbase targeted in the strikes. Pentagon officials said that the airfield was being used to store chemical weapons and was a base for Syrian air forces

About 60 of theses US Tomahawk missiles launched early Friday hit the Shayrat air base, southeast of the city of Homs, a small installation with two runways

The US military fired more than 50 tomahawk missiles at the al-Shayrat military airfield near Homs on Thursday

In the continuing fight back Russian or Syrian planes also bombed the town of Khan Sheikhoun, the scene of Tuesday's horrific chemical gas attack where 80 died, witnesses in the rebel-held area claimed.

The US was also branded 'a partner of ISIS' by al-Assad's spokesman, calling the missile strikes 'reckless and irresponsible' and accused Trump of 'naively falling' for a 'false propaganda campaign' about the Idlib Sarin massacre.

Today world leaders praised the US strikes and urged Putin to hold urgent talks with Trump to prevent the Syria crisis escalating into a wider world conflict.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, speaking alongside German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, said: 'We do not want an escalation. We have to stop the hypocrisy. If Russia is acting in good faith it should stop and negotiate'.

'We do not wish to raise the stakes, but to find a solution. You can not deal with reality (use of chemical weapons) by resorting to propaganda.'

Russia / Iran Army Chiefs Vow to Continue Syria Fight

Daily Mail UK, 8 April 2017

Iranian General Mohammad Bagheri, seen in 2016, and Russian General Valery Gerasimov, "condemned the American operation against a Syrian air base which is an aggression against an independent country", Iranian state news agency IRNA said

The army chiefs of Russia and Iran discussed the US strikes in Syria by phone Saturday, 8 April, 2017, and vowed to continue the fight against "terrorists" and their supporters, Iranian media reported.

The two chiefs of staff, Major General Mohammad Bagheri and General Valery Gerasimov, "condemned the American operation against a Syrian air base which is an aggression against an independent country", state news agency IRNA said.

The American strikes "aim at slowing the victories of the Syrian army and its allies, and reinforcing terrorist groups", they said in a statement.
The two army leaders vowed to continue their military cooperation in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad "until the total defeat of the terrorists and those that support them", according to the Mehr news agency.

Iran and Russia are Assad's closest allies and label all opponents of his regime as "terrorists".

Both governments have defended Assad against Western allegations that his regime carried out a suspected chemical weapons attack on the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhun on Tuesday, killing dozens of civilians.

President Hassan Rouhani earlier criticised his US counterpart Donald Trump for the missiles fired early on Friday in response to the suspected chemical attack.

"This man who is now in office in America claimed that he wanted to fight terrorism but today all terrorists in Syria are celebrating the US attack," he said.

A Russian television station showed what it said was the aftermath of the missile attack on the Syrian base this morning

A Syrian opposition monitor says the US missile attack on an air base in the country's centre has killed at least four Syrian soldiers, including a general, and caused extensive damage

The military action has already sparked a furious response from President Vladimir Putin (left with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Tuesday), who this morning called the airstrikes an 'illegal act of aggression

The Syrian Army described the attack as an act of 'blatant aggression', saying it had made the United States 'a partner' of ISIS, the ex-Nusra Front and other 'terrorist organisations'. An unidentified Syrian military official is shown reading the statement this morning

Quote:

HOW THE WORLD REACTED

From strong messages of support to fierce condemnation, here are the main global reactions to a US strike on a Syria air base in response to a suspected chemical attack.

Against:

RUSSIA
: Unsurprisingly, the main ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was robust in its opposition to the strike.
The strikes were an 'aggression against a sovereign state in violation of international norms,' the Kremlin said in a statement.
The action has inflicted 'considerable damage' to already 'lamentable' US-Russia ties, it added.
As a first practical response, Moscow said it would 'halt' its deal with the US to avoid clashes in Syrian airspace.
Russia also called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting following the strikes.

IRAN: The Iranian regime, another Syrian ally, 'strongly condemned' the strike, just as it condemned 'all unilateral military action'.
It said the US action was taken under the 'pretext' of the chemical strike.

For:

FRANCE/GERMANY: In a joint statement, President Francois Hollande and Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Assad bore 'sole responsibility' for the US strike following the suspected chemical attack.

BRITAIN: The close American ally said it 'fully supported' the strikes, judging them an 'appropriate response to the barbaric chemical weapons attack'. It said the strikes were 'intended to deter further attacks.'

TURKEY: NATO ally Turkey, which is a key player in the Syria conflict and has endured choppy relations with Washington recently, welcomed the strikes as 'positive.'
The deputy foreign minister added: 'We believe that the Assad regime must be punished completely in the international arena.'
Turkey called for a no-fly zone in Syria in the wake of the US strike.

SAUDI ARABIA: A foreign ministry official hailed US President Donald Trump as 'courageous' for taking action when 'the international community has failed to put a halt to the regime's actions.'

ISRAEL: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel 'fully supports' the 'strong and clear message' sent by the air strikes. He added that the message should 'resonate not only in Damascus, but in Tehran, Pyongyang and elsewhere.'

JAPAN: Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that Japan 'supports the US government's resolve that it will never tolerate the spread and use of chemical weapons.'

SYRIAN REBELS: A leading Syrian rebel group said one strike was 'not enough', adding that there were '26 airbases that target civilians.'
Others

CHINA: Beijing offered a nuanced reaction, saying it was 'urgent' to avoid 'further deterioration of the situation.'
A foreign ministry spokeswoman added: 'We oppose use of chemical weapons by any country, organisation or individual in any circumstance, for any purpose.'

US Aircraft Carrier-Led Strike Group Headed Toward Korean Peninsula

CNN, 9 April 2017

A US aircraft carrier-led strike group is headed toward the Western Pacific Ocean near the Korean Peninsula, a US defense official confirmed to CNN.
The move of the Vinson strike group is in response to recent North Korean provocations, the official said.

Adm. Harry Harris, the commander of US Pacific Command, directed the USS Carl Vinson strike group to sail north to the Western Pacific after departing Singapore on Saturday, Pacific Command announced.

It is not uncommon for aircraft carriers to operate in that area, and the United States regularly deploys military assets, such as aircraft, to the region as a show of force. In fact, the Vinson was in South Korea last month for military exercises.

Just days ago, North Korea launched a Scud extended-range missile, which US officials said exploded in flight. The regime also has recently conducted several missile engine tests as it works to improve its ballistic missile technology.

Earlier this year, North Korea says it successfully tested a nuclear warhead. Pyongyang claims it is pursuing nuclear weapons to defend itself from what it calls US aggression.

News of the carrier move comes just after a summit meeting between US President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where North Korea was one of the top items on the agenda.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Trump and Xi agreed on the "urgency of the threat of North Korea's nuclear weapons program" and agreed to work together to resolve the issue "peacefully."

Earlier this year, China called on both North Korea and the US to tone down tension on the Korean Peninsula -- North Korea by suspending its nuclear weapons program and the US by stopping military exercises with South Korea that inflame the Pyongyang regime.

Days before the summit, Trump warned that the US was prepared to act unilaterally to stop North Korea's nuclear program from advancing further should China be unwilling to use its leverage over Pyongyang.

But analysts say any unilateral military options for the US concerning North Korea posed significant problems.

While the US possesses overwhelming firepower compared to North Korea, an American strike on North Korea could expose South Korea to devastating casualties in retaliation, experts say.

Important re: TRUMP -LATEST-US 1st 'Lady' >Ex-Porn Star/Illegal Immigrant Caught in GAFF Photo

Cancer Patients & Others May No Longer Be Covered Under Trump's Plan - OR - Unable to Afford Healthcare + Pregnancy to Cost 425% More Under Donald Trump's Healthcare Plan Compared to Obamacare.

US citizens with the most serious forms of cancer could have to pay up to 35 times more for health insurance under a proposed amendment to Donald Trump’s new healthcare bill, analysts have claimed.

Fierce debate over what the bill will mean for people with 'pre-existing conditions' has threatened to derail a fresh bid to push the reforms through after they collapsed in March.

The Independent UK, 5 May 2017

Trump tried to make clear that provisions for people with illnesses such as cancer and diabetes will not be reduced. But that statement has now shown not to be true. Trump said that earlier this week and that the new healthcare plan “will be every bit as good on pre-existing conditions as Obamacare”. Also Untrue.

Wavering moderate Republicans had worried that the legislation to overhaul President Barack Obama's 2010 signature healthcare law would leave too many people with pre-existing medical conditions unable to afford coverage.

But estimates of how much healthcare premiums could rise under the new legislation, revamped to attract most hard-line conservatives and some Republican centrists, show people could end up paying much more under so-called ‘Trumpcare’.

A 40-year-old with a severe form of cancer such as lung or brain cancer could be liable for a $71,880 (£56,000) surcharge, while those with metastatic cancer could see a rise of $140,510, according to calculations by liberal think tank Center for American Progress.

People with colorectal, kidney and other cancers, and those with breast cancer under 50, may have to pay a surcharge of $28,230 (£22,000), and a middle-aged person with autism could have to pay $5,420 (£4,200) for coverage.

And a completed pregnancy, with no or minor complications, would result in a premium hike of $17,060 (£13,200) – a 425% increase.

The organisation said proposals allowing individual states to protect high-risk patients through funding pools or risk-sharing programmes were liable to fail as they have a history of failure and are “woefully underfunded”.

Quote:

Under the above amendment done by Trump's administration, here are estimated hikes in premiums for people:
Asthma: $4k
Diabetes: $5.5k
Pregnancy: $17k
Arthritis: $26k
Cancer: $140k!

Steven Rattner on Twitter -Former head of Obama Auto Task Force. Wall Street financier. Contributing Writer to NY Times Op-Ed. Morning Joe Economic Analyst.

.
,
“The return of discrimination based on medical history could increase insurance costs by tens of thousands of dollars... rendering it unaffordable for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions,” it said.

“We estimated what surcharges would be for various medical conditions in the absence of community rating. We drew upon data that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, uses to calculate transfers between insurers based on enrollees’ expected costs—this is called the risk adjustment program.

“We compared the plan liability for total costs for a healthy 40-year-old to the plan liability if that individual had certain medical conditions.”

Under the amendment, states could allow health insurers to charge people with pre-existing conditions higher premiums – rather than the current provisions which mean sick and healthy people are charged the same rates – if those jurisdictions have an alternative way to provide or subsidise coverage for people with serious illnesses.

In a tweet, Mr Trump said the “revised healthcare plan will have much lower premiums & deductibles while at the same time taking care of pre-existing conditions!”

But the American Medical Association said in a letter to the House last week opposing the bill that even protections in the MacArthur Amendment “may be illusory” and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network expressed concern that the plan could return the US to a “patchwork system” that drives up insurance costs for the sick.

House leaders plan a vote on Thursday on the legislation, with house majority leader Kevin McCarthy predicting: “We will pass this bill”.

The bitter health care battle dominated the Capitol even as Congress prepared to give final approval to a bipartisan measure financing federal agencies through September.

Polls have shown Mr Obama's much-maligned law has gained in popularity as the debate over a replacement has accelerated.

“House Republicans are going to tattoo this moral monstrosity to their foreheads and the American people will hold them accountable,” said house minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

The bill would eliminate tax penalties in Mr Obama's law which hit people who do not buy coverage and erases tax increases in the Affordable Care Act on higher-earning people and the health industry.

It cuts the Medicaid programme for low-income people and lets states impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients.

According to the Center for American Progress estimates, 40-year-olds with uncomplicated diabetes would have to pay $5,600 (£4,300) more for insurance.

oh he doesn't care who is going to be hurting from this as long as he makes money, he was born into money so it's okay for him to make money. it's okay if he's going to be causing wars and it inside the states with all this happening that's what it is starting to feel like. these landmarks are there for a reason.

they can still make plenty of money off these landmarks as it is. the native Americans have given us enough or rather we've taken enough from them i think. what's really left to take from them ? we've pretty much taken it all over and over again.

as for Trump care take out the Care part and it's going to i think have people complain even more by the looks of it about this than obamacare. which i hear was bad but if they would have worked on it and taken some stuff it, i dunno what though to be fair. it would have worked.

it also feels like Trump is not only going to start a war, really not because he wants to but he want to make money and that's it. it don't matter if people die in the process.
it also by the looks of it looks like he wants to even destroy the planet a feat even bush Jr. never even did and i never thought i'd defend him

Did you know that The Native Americans (I prefer to call them Natives of the New Land, because they were BEFORE the 'white man' stole their land > now called America >> THEY were the 1st illegal immigrants). But those Natives fed many of the 'white men' immigrants, when they found them starving to death.
& also it was NOT the Natives that starting taking the 'white men's hair. It was many drunken 'white men' and soldiers that started that habit. It was altered by HOLLYWOOD in their future movies and documentaries...

Now look at what TRUMP is doing to them by building that pipeline WITH A COMPANY he has financial interest/shares in. Folk should listen to the Natives, they are just trying to stop more of the earth's natural resources being destroyed ...and all for MONEY..........

that i did know that we did steal the land. as far as i know i don't think they hate all white men/women but at the same time i can see why they would hate them.

i've never heard that term before actually i like it. i still call them indians but i doubt there are many that dress like they used to 150 years ago and if there are they are in the middle of nowhere and prolly put it on on special occassions this is all guess work of course as i know nothing about that culture.

and let's face it if you watch certain films that are pretty factual there still is no doubt still stuff that they lie about and said happened to make a good movie and help the story move at a good pace and for entertainment. there's a movie that John Carradine did in (1957)

called "The True Story of Jesse James' and that movie is so full of stuff that was made up that the only thing that is i think factual as far as i know is the fact that there was a guy who used to live called that and that he was an outlaw as well.

it wouldn't surprise me if there were native americans it's habit that i call them that,

who back in say the 1800's if they did kill plenty of white men but it also wouldn't surprise me if a lot of it had to do with the white man starting it 1st.

some films in my opinion portray it as they are the bad guys if it's a western that is and that's fine cause it's fiction and not based off anything. but certain ones i think it's Broken Arrow the (1950) western with James Stewart that portrayed them as a good guy. Dances with Wolves a great film that i doubt is based off a true story but still a fine story makes some white men

the bad guys and some the good guys like say Kevin Costner. i don't think they get enough respect that they deserve even today and with Trump doing this i can understand why all this would piss them off. they may not have been around back than but their ancestors were and someone has to stick to their belief's and for what's wrong as well.

i just wish someone would stand up to Trump in the white house or outside it and say you can't do this and here's why... i read on IMDB a couple weeks back i didn't read the whole article cause i didn't really care to

but it was titled Trump admit that being the president is harder job than he expected or something like that. i think he's used to having all the power with his various companies that he's been the head of for so many years and since he's not the president he's not used to the fact that he's got someone to report to.

he does have power yes but only to a certain degree and he wants to have all the power. that's not how it works at all i don't think. and it just seems that the people who DO stand up to the guy he fires cause he still thinks it's his tv show. not everyone is going to agree with him that's how life is. he's not used to that i don't think

The Trump White House on Saturday omitted Gauthier Destenay, the husband of Luxembourg prime minister Xavier Bettel, from the caption to an official photograph of the spouses of Nato leaders, taken at this week’s summit in Brussels.

Destenay, a Belgian architect, married Bettel in 2015, becoming the first same-sex spouse of a leader of a European Union member state.

American first lady Melania Trump was identified twice in the original caption to the official White House photograph, which was taken by Andrea Hanks and posted to Facebook in a collection of pictures from Trump’s nine-day international tour. Destenay’s name later appeared in an edited version of the caption.

The original caption read: “First Lady Melania Trump poses with Belgium’s Queen Mathilde, center, and other spouses of Nato leaders: First Lady Emine Erdoğan of Turkey; Iceland’s Thora Margret Baldvinsdottir; the First Lady of France Brigitte Trogneux; First Lady Melania Trump; Slovenia’s Mojca Stropnik; Bulgaria’s Desislava Radeva; Belgium’s Amélie Derbaudrenghien, and Norway’s Ingrid Schulerud, during their visit Thursday 25 May 2917 [sic], at the Royal Palace in Brussels.”

Destenay, smiling and wearing a dark suit, white shirt and light blue tie, is clearly visible in the picture, behind Melania Trump’s right shoulder. His appearance in photographs of the group of leaders’ spouses taken in Brussels this week caused widespread comment in the media and online.

Prior to the edited caption appearing online, the White House did not return a request for comment...
END...

As usual members.. Trump does NOT listen to his advisors.. >Before he speaks... > even on the G7 meeting.. and continues to insult other Heads of State.... + PRE-Approving what his wife is doing on photo ops..

Perhaps he and his wife should talk together on TWITTER, before he OPENS his mouth...

Now THAT is a Husband & Wife team in the WHITE HOUSE..

Sadly neither of them live there....

you know one wonders how hard they even try to have him keep his mouth shut? since he hires people only HE Likes and will agree with him from my understanding.

one wonders though if her refusing to hold his hand etc.. not that long ago and the stuff he's doing now is making her realize that she made a mistake in marrying him.

i have no idea, i don't pay any attention to her and it's a LOT easier to do that when she's so far not out like Hilary is to start crap. and she's not active in various things like Obama's wife was. i'm okay with that, though i do think it's stupid we have to pay for her to live in that hotel of his when she should be living at the white house. but than what the hell do i know?

White House Lawyers are 'Consulting Experts to Research Impeachment Procedures'

Lawyers in the White House counsel's office have started consulting experts on impeachment in the last week

The gravity of the investigations into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia has escalated

But impeachment remains a long shot, especially given the GOP control of both the House and Senate

While some Democrats openly called for impeachment, others cautioned restraint

Daily Mail/AP, 7/8 June 2017

White House lawyers have started consulting experts on impeachment as murmurs of Donald Trump's removal from office have grown louder recent weeks, it has been reported.

Lawyers in the White House counsel's office appear to be taking the possibility of impeachment seriously, having reached out to experts in past weeks to gather more information.

While the gravity of the investigations into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia has escalated with the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel, & recent Firing of FBI Director James Comey impeachment remains a long shot, especially given the GOP control of both the House and Senate....

Trump does not sleep much, REFUSES to live and have meetings in the White House and reports irratically on TWITTER > Another Crazy Dictator?

Rep. Al Green, (D-TX), said on the House floor on Wednesday: 'The President must be impeached.

But Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), urged Democrats to take a more restrained approach, saying: 'No one ought to, in my view, rush to embrace the most extraordinary remedy that involves the removal of the president from office

He also warned that calls for impeachment could 'be perceived as an effort to nullify the election by other means.'

And reports that a senior adviser was a 'person of interest' in a probe of possible collusion with Russia during last year's election campaign emerged just recently as his son-law, as Trump was in Saudi Arabia on his first foreign trip as president.

U.S. law enforcement & other US agencies use the term 'a person of interest' to mean someone who is part of a criminal investigation but not arrested or formally accused of a crime.

The person may have information of use to investigators.

from my understanding that process by a podcast i like said it can take a VERY long time as it's a slow process. they said it can take up to 4 years but i dunno if that's true. i think that's just a guess. but the point of them saying that was saying listen uh folks

just cause he might get impeached doesn't mean it's going to be a fast process which i get. i just hope they get rid of Pence and the guy i forget who they said they DO like.
all 3 of these guys are awful for us. they need someone who is well more sane than

the guys the guys i mentioned. i wonder if Sanders who seems to be sane but i dunno if he is or not. would than be choosen? since he did lose and nobody wants Clinton...

but it's just sad that all this is just happening, i dunno much when it comes to politics
but i do know that

Trump IS Being Investigated for Obstruction of Justice - and Country's Top Intelligence Officials are Being Interviewed by Mueller's Elite Team This Week

  • The Washington Post reported Wednesday evening that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe has expanded to include an obstruction of justice investigation
  • Meuller is reportedly setting up interview with top intelligence officials who President Trump may have asked to pressure the FBI on its Russia probe
  • Last week, in his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, ex-FBI Director James Comey said he was fired as a way to 'change' the investigation
Daily Mail/AP, 14 June 2017

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has widened the Russia probe and is examining whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice

This new tentacle of the year-long FBI investigation, now being handled by Mueller, unfolded days after FBI Director James Comey was fired by Trump on May 9.

Comey testified last Thursday that he believed he was fired as a way to trip-up the Russia probe saying, 'It's my judgment that I was fired because of the Russia investigation. I was fired, in some way, to change – or the endeavor was to change the way the Russia investigation was being conducted.'

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly looking into whether Trump obstructed justice, as his Russia probe expands
Now Mueller's team wants to talk to others who were reportedly pressured by Trump on the issue.

Five sources told the Post that Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats, NSA Director Mike Rogers and his ex-deputy Richard Ledgett agreed to be interviewed by Mueller's investigators.
The sit-downs could come as early as this week, the Post said.

The interviews suggest that Mueller, an ex-FBI chief himself, sees the 'he said, he said,' currently going on between Comey and Trump to be a bigger deal than just that, one of the Post's sources said.

The NSA told the paper it will 'fully cooperate with the special counsel,' while the office of the Director of National Intelligence and Ledgett declined to comment.

The FBI probe was originally supposed to examine Russian meddling during the 2016 election, but had already expanded to looking into whether there was coordination between the Russians and the Trump campaign.
Comey's public admission of the latter, on March 20 before the House Intelligence Committee, rattled Trump and he asked the then-FBI director to make it clear publicly that the president wasn't personally under investigation.

Comey refused.

Trump then went to Coats and Rogers, making the same request.

Officials told the Post that Mueller is interested in conversations that took place on March 22, when Coats was less than a week on the job.
Coats was at the White House attending a briefing when Trump asked him, and CIA Director Mike Pompeo, to hold back.

Coats told the Post's sources that the president had requested that he ask Comey to get the FBI to back off of the investigation into Trump's ex-National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

A day or two later, Trump called Coats, and also Rogers, and asked them to say publicly that there was no coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign.

The Post previously reported these exchanges, including that Trump's request was doubly denied.

Ledgett's involvement is unclear, though the Post's sources say he penned an internal NSA memo documenting Trump's call with Rogers.
When speaking before Congress last week, Coats said he never felt 'pressured' when interacting with the president.
Rogers said he wasn't 'pressured' either.

'In the three-plus years that I have been the director of the National Security Agency, to the best of my recollection, I have never been directed to do anything I believed to be illegal, immoral, unethical or inappropriate,' he told members of the Senate Intelligence Committee last Wednesday.
Neither official would say whether Trump made the ask.

That's a question that Mueller's team can ask, and that Coats and Rogers likely can't escape from.

Even though the White House can invoke executive privilege, the Supreme Court rules during Watergate that government officials can't use privilege if they're withholding evidence in a criminal prosecution.

Update re: The Secret Land Trump Owns/Paid $1 for > in Florida's Swamplands

'Less Than $1 an Hour Pay, Being Called Monkeys and Morons and Unpaid Overtime': Workers Inside Indonesian Factory That Makes Ivanka Trump Branded Clothing Reveal Dire Conditions Although Women do Get Paid Extra to Work on Their Monthly Period

  • The Guardian published an expose of workers inside of an Indonesian factory that makes Ivanka Trump branded clothing
  • The PT Buma Apparel Industry factory in Subang is made up of mostly women and one described being unable to support her kids on the factory wages
  • Workers complain of making less than one dollar a day, among the lowest wages in the country
  • Workers said they suffered verbal abuse by superiors, being called 'animals' or 'monkeys'
  • They also allege overtime often goes unpaid and workers are routinely fired before Ramadan, which by law is supposed to be paid time off
  • If women work during their period they get a $10.50 monthly bonus
The Guardian/Daily Mail UK, 28 June 2017

Workers inside one of the factories that makes Ivanka Trump's brand name clothing have revealed they receive some of the lowest pay in the country, have impossible-to-meet production targets and claim that overtime is often unpaid.

Some employees inside of the PT Buma Apparel Industry factory in Subang, West Java, Indonesia, one of the factories that makes Ivanka Trump clothing, said that they're subjected to verbal abuse, are too poor to live with their children, have never received any raises other than what the government requires, are denied government-mandated Ramadan pay, and have bosses who stealthily clock out workers at 4pm even if they work later

Ivanka has projected an image of being for the working woman, but a woman who works on her clothes in a factory in Indonesia burst out laughing at the idea, saying she is paid so little she can't afford to live with her kids. Ivanka is pictured in Wisconsin on Tuesday

The workers in the Huajian, China shoe factory that produces some of Ivanka's branded shoes (above) complained of similar treatment to what the workers in Indonesia complained of

Ivanka, above with some of her branded merchandise at a Canadian trade show, is where the buck stops, said a labor activist

PT Buma, a Korean-owned garment company started in Indonesia in 1999, is one of the suppliers of G-III Apparel Group, the wholesale manufacturer that has an exclusive agreement to license the Ivanka Trump brand.

Alia, whose name was changed for fear of losing her job, said that even after years of work at PT Buma, she and her husband, who works as well, are still too poor to have their children live at home with them.
They live with their grandmother hours away by motorcycle, and only have enough money for gas to visit them once a month.

Alia makes 2.3million rupiah, or about $173 a month, the legal minimum wage, but among the lowest in Indonesia. Hours are 7am to 4pm, which would make hourly pay less than a dollar an hour.

Workers on a production line at the Huajian shoe factory in Dongguan, in south China's Guangdong province - workers had complained about excessive hours and low pay

Subang, West Java, Indonesia (above) is the site of one of the factories that makes Ivanka Trump branded clothing

'You have to assess minimum wages in the context of the country itself and, in that context, it’s not a living wage,' said David Welsh, Indonesia and Malaysia director at the Solidarity Center.

Welsh said that pay can vary greatly per jurisdiction within the country, and factories keep migrating to the lowest paying areas.

Alia says she rents two rooms for $30 a month and has decorated them with pictures of her children as she can't afford to have them live with her.

Ivanka's father may have been accused of having anti-Muslim policies, but the majority of the workers on her clothes in Indonesia are Muslim

Alia, like most of the workers, is Muslim. She and her husband, Ahmad, are aware of Donald Trump's attempts to ban certain majority Muslim country's citizens from entering the US, but he says:

'We don’t like Donald Trump’s policies. But we’re not in a position to make employment decisions based on our principles.'

When told about Ivanka's book Women Who Work, Alia laughed and said her fondest dream as a working woman would be able to afford to see her children more than once a month.

About three quarters of the factory's workers are women, and only 200 of the 2,759 total workers at Buma PT are unionized, said The Guardian.
Being forced to work overtime with no extra pay was a common complaint, said the outlet.

Sita, 23, said, 'I can’t stand it any more. I work unpaid overtime every day and still earn just 2.3 million [rupiah] a month. I’m planning to move from Subang, where the minimum wage is too low. But I don’t know where to go yet. I haven’t got any connections.'

Workers are given expected 'production targets' per half hour, but they are far above what workers can reasonably do, said the sources within the factory.

G-III workers at a factory in China have been found to be working for at or below minimum wage and up to 82 hours a month of overtime, which is against Chinese law - above, a G-III shoe factory in Dongguan, where about 100,000 pairs of Ivanka Trump shoes were made

'Using unrealistic production targets to justify unpaid overtime is very common,' said Andriko Otang, of Indonesia’s Trade Union Rights Centre.

A timetable with production targets of 58 and 92 garments per half hour, while the actual numbers produced are recorded as 27 to 40, was shown to the outlet's reporter.

Seven workers told the paper that verbal abuse from superiors was common, such as being called epithets such as 'animals, moron and monkey.'

Additionally, workers said they are routinely fired right before Ramadan, which is required as paid time off per law, and rehired after it is over.

Every worker the outlet interviewed said they don't want to join a union for fear of being fired.

However, the workers said their jobs weren't all bad - they have three months paid maternity leave, far higher than a lot of American companies have, mandatory federal health insurance and a monthly bonus of $10.50 if they don’t take a day off for menstruation. (Which works out to about ten days pay if a woman works through her period.)

One woman was even happy she wasn't working on her parents' farm as at least the factory 'has air conditioning.'

Jim Keady, an American labor rights activist who has worked extensively in Indonesia, said that even if the factory is paying the legal wage, that doesn't make it right if people can't afford to live on it.

'With these poverty wages - and I would call it that - just because something is legal, doesn’t mean it is moral,' he said.

He puts the blame on Ivanka Trump, as she has the power to do something about the situation.
'The buck stops with her,' he said. 'It’s her name that’s on the dress. Without her there is no brand.'

Carry Somers, founder of Fashion Revolution, a non-profit that calls for greater transparency in the fashion industry, said 'Ivanka Trump claims to be the ultimate destination for Women Who Work, but this clearly doesn’t extend to the women who work for her in factories around the world.'

Last month, two men disappeared and one was arrested after working to expose conditions in a Chinese factory that makes Ivanka Trump branded shoes

One man who worked in the warehouse section of the Indonesian factory put it succinctly when he said

'Sure I’m proud to make clothes for a well-known brand. But because I see the price tags, I have to wonder, can’t they pay us a bit more?'

Neither the White House nor anyone from the Ivanka Trump brand would comment for the story.

Last month, Su Heng and Li Zhao, two undercover workers at a Huajian, China factory that produced Ivanka Trump shoes went missing after China Labor Watch, which monitors conditions inside sweatshops, was set to release a damning report about conditions within the factory.

Workers inside the Huajian factory that produced some of Ivanka Trump branded shoes also complained about low pay, unpaid overtime, and unrealistic production targets.

Another activist who worked with China Labor Watch, labor rights activist Hua Haifeng, was arrested.

On June 5th, the U.S. State Department called for the immediate release of the three men.
The next day, China rejected the call.

Ivanka stepped down from running her company in January but often still promotes the brand by wearing it.

Ivanka's father, Donald Trump, ran on a platform of giving Americans back jobs lost to other countries, but the vast majority of his and his daughter's branded merchandise is made abroad.
He also has all his suits and ties made in factories in poorer countries.

Update re: TRUMP is Most Dangerous President in US History + His Dad was KKK Chief

Inside the Mysterious Lot of Land Donald Trump Owns in Florida's Swamplands

The quarter-acre parcel brings in no income, has no natural resources and has environmental restrictions. So why does the US president still maintain it?

The land is valued at only $4,280, according to the county roll.
Photograph: Richard Luscombe for the Guardian
.

Amid the gilded tower blocks, luxury hotels and high-end golf clubs of Donald Trump’s vast global property portfolio is a much smaller holding that looks more than a little out of place.

It’s a quarter-acre lot of overgrown woodland in one of Florida’s poorest counties that the US president has owned and paid property taxes on since 2005 – having bought it for $1 from a woman who owned a photographic studio specialising in adult lingerie shoots.

The plot brings in no income, has no roads, pavement or immediate prospect for development, and provides an environment that is friendly only to the swarms of mosquitoes that thrive in the humidity of the scorching summer.

Trump’s interest in such a tiny and inaccessible plot of land in Sebring, 120 miles from the garish surroundings of his coastal Mar-a-Lago palace in Palm Beach, is a mystery to those familiar with the area.

“Your guess is as good as mine,” said Raymond MacIntyre, property appraiser for Highlands County, a region of central Florida popular with retirees and prime growing territory for the orange groves of the state’s struggling citrus industry.

“Like so many of these plots of land in our county, you need a Jeep, a helicopter or a parachute just to get to it. But the property tax bill gets sent to Trump Tower in New York every year, and every year the taxes get paid.”

Records show he paid $69.87 in taxes in 2016, is one of hundreds of similarly sized and individually owned lots in an area west of Sebring’s Lake Jackson known as Orange Blossom Estates.

In the late 1960s, a company called Land Services Sebring acquired large tracts of county land and sold subdivisions with the intention of developing them into homesteads. Florida’s era of land speculation was at its peak, McIntyre says, and developers were clamouring for a piece of the action.

The company, however, became mired in a number of lawsuits and eventually folded, leaving landowners with effectively worthless lots.

Some were privately developed but many more, including the majority of those in the neighborhood where the Trump lot is located, remain untouched. County records list thousands of single undeveloped plots that have been vacant for decades.

New laws now require developers to provide infrastructure such as roads, sewage and drainage before they can split and sell lots. But the regulations are too late for those whose land is accessible only by mud tracks, or in many cases not at all.

“For many of these land owners, they’ll pay more in property taxes in 15 years than the land is actually worth,” McIntyre says.

All of which makes Trump’s interest in the land, valued at only $4,280 according to the county roll, all the more curious. There are no natural resources such as gas or oil anywhere close, the county’s zoning department says. There is a nearby golf course, but it is municipally owned and not available for development. Furthermore, there are environmental restrictions on the land, which features a protected, endemic Florida grass called cut-throat, which would place further obstacles in the way of any new development.

“It’s beautiful, peaceful and quiet around here just the way it is,” said Clovena Minkah, Trump’s “next-door neighbour” who has lived there for 20 years and whose house occupies the only developed lot in the immediate vicinity.

“The deer sometimes come and sit in the yard and it only gets noisy when the kids come through on their ATVs [all-terrain vehicles] at night. And the track to my house floods every time it rains. I’ve been trying to get the county to fix that for years.”

Donald Trump’s Tax Bill for the Vacant Land.

.
The circumstances of Trump’s acquisition of the land, meanwhile, are equally as bewildering as his reasons for maintaining it for more than a decade. It was effectively gifted to him for $1 in July 2005 by a woman named Nazeema Carrico, who was listed in Palm Beach County records as the owner of a photographic studio specialising in adult lingerie shoots.

Carrico owned the land for only a few weeks, having bought it in June 2005 for $3,300 from a man in Ohio, who died earlier this year.

Since her divorce in 2015, Carrico, 41, now goes by the name of Nazeema Moonab and lives in a $550,000 mansion in Covington, Georgia. Records show that members of her family continue to own hundreds of small, undeveloped plots of land in Highlands County, but Carrico surrendered her own joint ownership in about 50 more to her former husband as part of a divorce settlement.

Carrico did not return messages from the Guardian seeking comment and removed her Facebook and Instagram profiles the same day the requests were made. A cousin of Carrico’s in Tamarac, South Florida, denied knowing anything about her, and two other close relatives reached by telephone elsewhere in the state hung up on the calls.

Trump’s Sebring “neighbours” are puzzled as to how the president, himself a prolific property developer, benefits from owning the land. Rosa Salmeron, 56, paid $12,000 for an adjacent lot in 2005 that is now valued at a fraction of that and says she is not expecting to be chatting with him over a garden fence any time soon.

“I wouldn’t have anything to say to him anyway,” said Salmeron, who lives in South Florida and admits she has never visited the plot of land she owns.

“I bought it as a land investment, not for development, but it never worked out. I’m surprised that Trump would also be an owner.”

The Trump Organization, which manages Trump’s portfolio of real estate holdings, did not respond to requests for comment.

Donald Trump Refuses to Make State Visit to UK until Theresa May ‘Fixes Warm UK Welcome from Public'

'When I know I’m going to get a better reception, I’ll come and not before'... ...

The Independent UK, 17 July 2017

Donald Trump reportedly told Theresa May he will not make a state visit to the UK until he is guaranteed a "better reception".

The US President asked the Prime Minister to prepare a "warm welcome" before he agrees to set a date, it has been claimed.

The pair spoke on the phone to discuss the planned state visit, which has now been postponed until next year.

"I haven’t had great coverage out there lately, Theresa," Mr Trump told Ms May, according to a transcript of the conversation seen by The Sun.

But Mr Trump added: "I still want to come, but I’m in no rush.

"So, if you can fix it for me, it would make things a lot easier.

"When I know I’m going to get a better reception, I’ll come and not before."...

Over 1.8 million people signed a petition to prevent Mr Trump from being honoured with a formal state visit.

The petition reads:
“Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.”

Downing Street declined to comment.

Update re: TRUMP is Most Dangerous President in US History + His Dad was KKK Chief

AND MORE on The TRUMP Saga;

Scandal of Donald Trump Jr's Alleged Russian Collusion Will Force his Father to Resign, Columbia Law Professor Predicts

Though some think the President will be impeached, it is becoming increasingly likely he will resign of his own accord

The Independent UK, 17 July 2017

Donald Trump will probably resign over a constitutional crisis caused by his son-in-law and son, a leading professor of law at Columbia University predicts.

Philip Bobbitt describes the President’s resignation as a consequence of his family members being prosecuted as “the likeliest possibility.”

Emails released by Donald Trump Jr show that he met with a Kremlin-based lawyer last summer, along with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort, the Republican campaign’s then chairman.

Trump Jr's response to being offered compromising information about Hillary Clinton ahead of the November election was to write “if it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer”.

“Whatever [Trump’s] policy goals, it has long been clear that creating a dynasty — having destroyed the two reigning political dynasties in the last campaign — is his greatest objective,” Professor Bobbitt writes in the Evening Standard.

“Resignation, as remote as it seems right now, might well be a choice the President would make to save his children from prison, and himself from future prosecution.”

He says resignation would be the best way out of the “mess” created by allegations of collusion with Russia over interference in the US Presidential election.

Professor Bobbitt is a nephew of former President Lyndon B Johnson and a well-respected constitutional theorist.

He has acted as special adviser to every US President since his uncle, except Nixon, George W Bush, and now Trump.

He holds degrees from Princeton, Yale and Oxford.

In the article, Professor Bobbitt also suggests that if Trump were to be impeached rather than resigning of his own accord, this would happen not on the basis of the President receiving a bribe but of him having offered one.

“By determining that the head of the FBI, James Comey, wished to continue in his post, the President came perilously close to violating the constitution when he then stated that he would “think about it”, and raised the subject of Comey terminating the Russia investigation.

“Indeed, the offering of such a bribe formed one of the counts in Richard Nixon’s impeachment when it was alleged he offered a judicial promotion to a judge for favourable treatment in court."

COMMENTs from Independent readers;

1.
"The professor has failed to take into account Trump's basic nature and personality. Resigning would require Trump to engage in some form of introspection, and narcissists are notorious for never acknowledging their own role in situations -
He has demonstrated this ego-feeding self-preservation tactic over and over again.
Resigning is completely against Trump's basic nature, he'd much rather go down in flames (whether it's censure, impeachment, or GOP ostracizing), so he can blame others for his failure, and in so doing, protect his gargantuan ego."

2.
Potentially there is an illegal aspect to it. under the below law.

52 USC 30121, 36 USC 510

Update re: TRUMP is Most Dangerous President in US History + His Dad was KKK Chief

Trump Held Secret Hour-Long Meeting with Putin at G20 with Only Russian Translator Present

Meeting described as a breach of national security protocol

The Independent UK, 19 July 2017

Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a second, previously undisclosed meeting at the G20 summit earlier this month in Germany, a White House official has confirmed.

The meeting followed the two leaders’ formal two-hour meeting on 7 July in which Mr Trump said Mr Putin denied allegations that he directed efforts to meddle in the 2016 US presidential election.

The second meeting, which took place some hours later, was only attended by Mr Putin, Mr Trump and Mr Putin’s translator. It had not previously been disclosed by the White House.

The White House official did not say how long the second meeting took place or what was discussed.

The second meeting between Mr Putin and Mr Trump was first reported by Ian Bremmer, president of the Eurasia Group.

Mr Bremmer said the meeting, which went ahead without Mr Trump’s own translator present, was a breach of national security protocol, though he added that it was one the president likely would not know about.

Their formal meeting - their first face-to-face talks amid investigations in the US into possible collusion between Russia and Trump campaign figures during last year's presidential vote - lasted more than two hours, despite being scheduled for only half-an-hour.

At one point, First Lady Melania Trump entered the room to hurry them along.

Afterwards, Russia's foreign minister Sergey Lavrov claimed Mr Trump accepted Mr Putin’s assurances that Russia did not meddle in the US presidential election - a claim later denied by the White House.

However, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Mr Trump had raised the issue of Moscow’s alleged cyber-meddling in the election at the start of their conversation.

He said the US had talked about such attacks represented a “threat to the democratic process”.

“I think the president is rightly focused on how do we move forward from something that may be an intractable disagreement at this point,” Mr Tillerson said.

The President later hit out at negative coverage of the previously undisclosed discussion, writing on Twitter: "Fake News story of secret dinner with Putin is 'sick.' All G 20 leaders, and spouses, were invited by the Chancellor of Germany. Press knew!"

A few minutes later he added: "The Fake News is becoming more and more dishonest! Even a dinner arranged for top 20 leaders in Germany is made to look sinister!"

National Security Council spokesman Michael Anton said: "A conversation over dessert should not be characterised as a meeting."

Hot Re: Trump Asks Lawyers About HIS Powers to Pardon Himself/His Children in Russia Prob

Donald Trump Asks Lawyers About Powers to Pardon Himself and His Children in Russia Probe, Report Reveals

President's team may be seeking to control and block Mueller's Russia investigation

The Independent UK, 22 July 2017

Trump is Beginning to look Perplexed on How He Can Continue to Hide His Lies and Russia Connections

Some of President Trump’s lawyers are exploring ways to limit or undercut special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Russia investigation, building a case against what they allege are his conflicts of interest and discussing the president’s authority to grant pardons, according to people familiar with the effort.

Trump has asked his advisers about his power to pardon aides, family members and even himself in connection with the probe, according to one of those people. A second person said Trump’s lawyers have been discussing the president’s pardoning powers among themselves.

Trump’s legal team declined to comment on the issue. But one adviser said the president has simply expressed a curiosity in understanding the reach of his pardoning authority, as well as the limits of Mueller’s investigation.

“This is not in the context of, ‘I can’t wait to pardon myself,’ ” a close adviser said.

With the Russia investigation continuing to widen, Trump’s lawyers are working to corral the probe and question the propriety of the special counsel’s work. They are actively compiling a list of Mueller’s alleged potential conflicts of interest, which they say could serve as a way to stymie his work, according to several of Trump’s legal advisers.

A conflict of interest is one of the possible grounds that can be cited by an attorney general to remove a special counsel from office under Justice Department regulations that set rules for the job.
You do not have access to view this Atom.

The president is also irritated by the notion that Mueller’s probe could reach into his and his family’s finances, advisers said.

Trump has been fuming about the probe in recent weeks as he has been informed about the legal questions that he and his family could face. His primary frustration centers on why allegations that his campaign coordinated with Russia should spread into scrutinizing many years of Trump dealmaking. He has told aides he was especially disturbed after learning Mueller would be able to access several years of his tax returns.

Trump has repeatedly refused to make his tax returns public after first claiming he could not do so because he was under audit or after promising to release them after an IRS audit was completed. All presidents since Jimmy Carter have released their tax returns.

Further adding to the challenges facing Trump’s outside lawyers, the team’s spokesman, Mark Corallo, resigned on Thursday, according to two people familiar with his departure. Corallo did not respond to immediate requests for comment.

“If you’re looking at Russian collusion, the president’s tax returns would be outside that investigation,” said a close adviser to the president.

Jay Sekulow, one of the president’s private lawyers, said in an interview Thursday that the president and his legal team are intent on making sure Mueller stays within the boundaries of his assignment as special counsel. He said they will complain directly to Mueller if necessary.

“The fact is that the president is concerned about conflicts that exist within the special counsel’s office and any changes in the scope of the investigation,” Sekulow said. “The scope is going to have to stay within his mandate. If there’s drifting, we’re going to object.”

Sekulow cited Bloomberg News reports that Mueller is scrutinizing some of Trump’s business dealings, including with a Russian oligarch who purchased a Palm Beach mansion from Trump for $95 million in 2008.

“They’re talking about real estate transactions in Palm Beach several years ago,” Sekulow said. “In our view, this is far outside the scope of a legitimate investigation.”

The president has long called the FBI investigation into his campaign’s possible coordination with the Russians a “witch hunt.” But now, Trump is coming face-to-face with a powerful investigative team that is able to study evidence of any crime it encounters in the probe — including tax fraud, lying to federal agents and interference in the investigation.

“This is Ken Starr times 1,000,” said one lawyer involved in the case, referring to the independent counsel who oversaw an investigation that eventually led to House impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton. “Of course, it’s going to go into his finances.”

Following Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James B. Comey — in part because of his displeasure with the FBI’s Russia investigation — Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel in a written order.

That order gave Mueller broad authority to investigate links between the Russian government and the Trump campaign, as well as “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation” and any crimes committed in response to the investigation, such as perjury or obstruction of justice.

Mueller’s probe has already expanded to include an examination of whether Trump obstructed justice in his dealings with Comey, as well as the business activities of Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law.

Trump’s team could potentially challenge whether a broad probe of Trump’s finances prior to his candidacy could be considered a matter that arose “directly” from an inquiry into possible collusion with a foreign government.

The president’s legal representatives have also identified what they allege are several conflicts of interest facing Mueller, such as donations to Democrats by some of his prosecutors.

Another potential conflict claim is an allegation that Mueller and Trump National Golf Club in Northern Virginia had a dispute over membership fees when Mueller resigned as a member in 2011, two White House advisers said. A spokesman for Mueller said there was no dispute when Mueller, who was FBI director at the time, left the club.

Trump also took public aim on Wednesday at Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Rosenstein, whose actions led to Mueller’s appointment.

In an interview with the New York Times Wednesday, the president said he never would have nominated Sessions if he knew he was going to recuse himself from the case.

Some Republicans in frequent touch with the White House said they viewed the president’s decision to publicly air his disappointment with Sessions as a warning sign that the attorney general’s days were numbered. Several senior aides were described as “stunned”

when Sessions announced Thursday morning he would stay on at the Justice Department.

Another Republican in touch with the administration described the public steps as part of a broader effort aimed at “laying the groundwork to fire” Mueller.

“Who attacks their entire Justice Department?” this person said. “It’s insane.”

Law enforcement officials described Sessions as increasingly distant from the White House and the FBI because of the strains of the Russia investigation.

Traditionally, Justice Department leaders have sought to maintain a certain degree of autonomy from the White House as a means of ensuring prosecutorial independence.

But Sessions’s situation is more unusual, law enforcement officials said, because he has angered the president for apparently being too independent while also angering many at the FBI for his role in the president’s firing of Comey.

As a result, there is far less communication among those three key parts of the government than in years past, several officials said.

Currently, the discussions of pardoning authority by Trump’s legal team are purely theoretical, according to two people familiar with the ongoing conversations. But if Trump pardoned himself in the face of the ongoing Mueller investigation, it would set off a legal and political firestorm, first around the question of whether a president can use the constitutional pardon power in that way.

“This is a fiercely debated but unresolved legal question,” said Brian C. Kalt, a constitutional law expert at Michigan State University who has written extensively on the question.

The power to pardon is granted to the president in Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution, which gives the commander in chief the power to “grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.”

That means pardon authority extends to federal criminal prosecution but not to state level or impeachment inquiries.

No president has sought to pardon himself, so no courts have reviewed it. Although Kalt says the weight of the law argues against a president pardoning himself, he says the question is open and predicts such an action would move through the courts all the way to the Supreme Court.

“There is no predicting what would happen,” said Kalt, author of the book, “Constitutional Cliffhangers: A Legal Guide for Presidents and Their Enemies.” It includes chapters on the ongoing debate over whether presidents can be prosecuted while in office and on whether a president can issue a pardon to himself.
Other White House advisers have tried to temper Trump, urging him to simply cooperate with the probe and stay silent on his feelings about the investigation.

On Monday, lawyer Ty Cobb, newly brought into the White House to handle responses to the Russian probe, convened a meeting with the president and his team of lawyers, according to two people briefed on the meeting. Cobb, who is not yet on the White House payroll, was described as attempting to instill some discipline in how the White House handles queries about the case.

But Trump surprised many of his aides by speaking at length about the probe to the New York Times two days later. Cobb, who officially joins the White House team at the end of the month, declined to comment for this article.

Some note that the Constitution does not explicitly prohibit a president from pardoning himself. On the other side, experts say that by definition a pardon is something you can only give to someone else. There is also a common-law canon that prohibits individuals from serving as a judge in their own case. “For example, we would not allow a judge to preside over his or her own trial,” Kalt said.

A president can pardon an individual at any point, including before the person is charged with a crime, and the scope of a presidential pardon can be very broad. President Gerald Ford pardoned former president Richard M. Nixon preemptively for offenses he “committed or may have committed” while in office.

Update re: TRUMP is Most Dangerous President in US History + His Dad was KKK Chief

The 'President' is a Pyromaniac : The Week Trump Set Fire to The White House

What Went Wrong? Take Your Pick: Healthcare, Transgender Troops, The Fallout From His Savaging of Jeff Sessions, The Boy Scouts Speech – It Was the Worst Week in Trump’s Short Presidency

The Guardian UK, 30 July 2017

‘Everything that has happened has been self-inflicted’: can Trump ever get out of his own way?
...

Donald Trump began the week by turning a national scout jamboree into something resembling a youth rally. He ended it in front of more massed ranks in uniform, telling police officers “please don’t be too nice” to suspects they arrest in what sounded to many like an endorsement of police brutality.

And then, amid a blizzard of stories about White House infighting, chief of staff Reince Priebus resigned, becoming the shortest-serving occupant of the post in history. Though he seemed blithely unaware of it, it was a fitting finale to the worst week of Trump’s short political career.

In five torrid days, the US president alienated conservatives by savaging his own attorney general; earned a rebuke from the Pentagon over a rushed ban on transgender troops; watched impotently as the Senate dealt a crushing blow to his legislative agenda with the fall of healthcare reform; ousted Priebus; and threw a human grenade – the new communications director, Anthony Scaramucci – into his already dysfunctional White House.

“This is certainly the week in which the Trump administration went off the rails,” said Bill Galston, a former policy adviser to Bill Clinton.
“And it’s going to require some heavy lifting equipment to get it back on the rails and off down the track.”

Where to start? The most tangible defeat was over healthcare. Trump had repeatedly promised during his campaign to repeal and replace Barack Obama’s signature law, the Affordable Care Act (ACA). But when it came to the tough part, arm-twisting members of Congress or making landmark speeches, the self-proclaimed deal-maker was notably absent.

In the early hours of Friday, after months of wrangling, senators voted on a bill to undo major parts of the ACA, popularly known as Obamacare. In a moment of reality TV suspense that Trump might otherwise have appreciated, John McCain of Arizona, who had returned to the floor after brain surgery, was decisive in sinking the bill.

McCain is an old adversary. The 80-year-old is a decorated navy veteran who was tortured during more than five years of captivity in the Vietnam war. Just over two years ago, Trump, who received five draft deferments, mocked him as “not a war hero”. McCain has become something of a conscience for his party, and nation, as Trump tramples and trashes every norm.

His vote – along with those of Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska – left a seven-year Republican promise in ruins and Trump with zero legislative achievements after more than six months in office. The president had tried to intensify the pressure on Murkowski during the week, tweeting that she “really let the Republicans, and our country, down”.

His interior secretary, Ryan Zinke, phoned Murkowski and her fellow Alaska senator, Dan Sullivan, with a threat to withhold federal support for major economic development projects in the state. The dirty trick failed and Zinke may have cause to regret his actions: Murkowski is chair of the Senate energy and natural resources committee, with power over the interior department’s budget.

Meanwhile, poison was seeping in at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue. Scaramucci, a mouthy Wall Street financier, publicly declared war on Priebus and Trump adviser Steve Bannon in an expletive-laden interview with Ryan Lizza of the New Yorker magazine. He described Priebus as a “****ing paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac”, and predicted his imminent demise as chief of staff. Yet far from being punished, “the Mooch” was vindicated on Friday when Priebus confirmed his exit.

He will be replaced by Gen John Kelly, who moves over from leading the homeland security department.

The arrival of Scaramucci was, observers said, the moment the White House went full reality TV. Galston said:

“It’s off the charts. Both the president and the communications director have really defiled the temple of our democracy.”

Dangerously for Trump, the critics of Scaramucci’s invective included loyalists such as the former House speaker Newt Gingrich, Fox News and Breitbart, which described the interview as a “rambling rant that was so outrageous and discordant that reporters wondered whether Scaramucci drunk-dialed Lizza, was drunk with power, or, reveal[ed] he was unqualified for his communications director job”.

The Trump base had another reason to be upset. The president spent several days publicly humiliating Sessions, his attorney general, over his decision to recuse himself from the investigation into the Trump campaign’s alleged collusion with Russia during last year’s election. Sessions refused to quit, perhaps consoled by conservative voices of dissent.

Kenneth Starr, a former US solicitor general who served as independent counsel in the Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky investigations during the Clinton administration, wrote in the Washington Post:

“Mr President, please cut it out. Tweet to your heart’s content, but stop the wildly inappropriate attacks on the attorney general.
“An honorable man whom I have known since his days as a US attorney in Alabama, Jeff Sessions has recently become your piñata in one of the most outrageous – and profoundly misguided – courses of presidential conduct I have witnessed in five decades in and around the nation’s capital.”

Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator from South Carolina, told CNN:

“If Jeff Sessions is fired, there will be holy hell to pay.” If Trump tries to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, Graham added, he will be crossing a “red line”. “Any effort to go after Mueller could be the beginning of the end of the Trump presidency unless Mueller did something wrong.”

Sessions, a hardliner on criminal justice and immigration, is seen as the most Trumpist member of the administration. Taking on the former Alabama senator could prove a huge political miscalculation.

Galston said: “He has managed to alarm and alienate a substantial element of his conservative base. Sessions is the conservative standard bearer in the administration.”

‘Retired Sergeant Says Transgender Ban Hurtful’

Trump faced blowback on yet another front. On Wednesday morning he tweeted, out of the blue, that he plans to reinstate a ban on transgender people from serving “in any capacity” in the US armed forces. He claimed he had consulted his “generals” but the Pentagon was blindsided and a day later it pushed back, insisting the policy would not be overturned until it received formal direction.

In a sign of how much America has changed, a decision seemingly calculated to rally the base played badly in media outlets in socially conservative states. The TV station WCIV in Charleston, South Carolina, reported: “Lowcountry transgender veteran ‘stunned’ by President Trump’s transgender military ban.” The Rapid City Journal in South Dakota said: “Retired Ellsworth sergeant says transgender ban hurtful.”

There was also rare defiance from Republicans in Congress. Senator Orrin Hatch, up for re-election soon in Utah, hardly a liberal bastion, said: “I don’t think we should be discriminating against anyone. Transgender people are people, and deserve the best we can do for them.”

“I don’t think we should be discriminating against anyone. Transgender people are people, and deserve the best we can do for them.”

After months of bending over backward to accommodate Trump, Republicans gave other indications that they had run out of loyalty or fear. The Senate voted 98-2 to pass a bill increasing sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea, blocking Trump’s ability to cut a deal with Vladimir Putin. The White House bowed to political reality and announced that Trump intended to sign the bill.

Ever more isolated, with even Republicans turning against him, Trump went to feed off the dark energy of crowds. But his rambling speech at the National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia was widely condemned as inappropriate for its overt political content (along with a reference to a party with “the hottest people in New York”), prompting an apology from the head of the Boy Scouts of America.

And as all these dramas unfolded simultaneously, handing Trump a week of unmitigated disaster, North Korea conducted a new intercontinental ballistic missile test that landed in the sea off Japan. Experts have warned that North Korea will have the ability to strike the US mainland with a nuclear weapon as soon as next year. It was a sobering reminder of the high stakes facing a White House in disarray.

Frank Luntz, a Republican pollster and strategist, said:

“It’s fair to say Trump has lost control of the narrative. What I don’t know is how and when he can regain it.”

It might have been so different. Figures showed that US economic growth rebounded to 2.6% annual rate in the second quarter. Foxconn, an electronics manufacturer, announced plans to invest at least $7bn in the US and create between 30,000 and 50,000 jobs with a massive factory in Wisconsin. Trump buried his own good news.

Charlie Sykes, a conservative author and broadcaster, said:

“It could have been one of his best weeks with the Foxconn announcement. But this has been his worst week ever and everything that has happened has been self-inflicted.

“You have a White House in meltdown because the president is a pyromaniac. The thing that’s got to rattle Republicans is the damage he’s doing to the administration, to the party and to the country.”

Scaramucci is “Trump’s id”, Sykes said.

“A friend said to me today, in a rational world, Scaramucci would have been fired for that interview. But in a rational world, Scaramucci would never have been hired. And in a rational world, Donald Trump would not be the president of the United States. We’re well past the rational world.”

It is far from certain whether Trump has actually hit rock-bottom. With Priebus’s departure, he appears to be severing his links to the Republican establishment, even though he will have to work with Congress on tax reform in the hope of a better result than was achieved on healthcare. The potential for conflict between Kelly, a career marine, and Scaramucci seems high.

And Trump has not yet been tested by a major international crisis.

'There has been an explosion of crazy, spread over the past seven days'

Quote:

Rick Tyler, a political analyst, warned:

“It could get a lot worse. North Korea just fired off a ballistic missile today that landed 230 miles from Japan.
“There could be a lot of worse things to come from Trump and we’ll be lucky if we survive them.”

MORE;

Scaramucci, One Week In: Civil War in The White House and an Even Wilder Trump

It’s been one helluva week in the White House, and, like a shot of adrenaline, the president has found the arrival of his Mini-Me invigorating.

Now Scaramucci's wife is to divorce him after only 3 yrs of marriage.

Reince Priebus and Anthony Scaramucci in the Oval Office
.

If looks could kill. There is Anthony Scaramucci going full alpha male: chest out, shoulders back, thumbs on belt, feet planted solidly apart, eyes fixed in a deadly stare. There is Reince Priebus, less obviously macho but with a face like thunder as he glares back, a yawning chasm between them. Many historic photographs have been taken in the Oval Office, but few have captured mutual loathing so indelibly.

Scaramucci’s first week at the White House was one for the ages. The new communications director declared war on Priebus, branding him “a ****ing paranoid schizophrenic” in what appeared to be a brazen play for his job as chief of staff – which, late on Friday, went instead to Gen John Kelly, the homeland security secretary. He roared from TV studio to TV studio, offering his street fighter’s defence of Donald Trump and vowing to take out leakers. And not least importantly, he seemingly jolted the president back into his most unfettered, unscripted, offensive and authentically Trump-like self.

Indeed, just as Trump was an agent of disruption in the Republican party, so Scaramucci has run riot in the White House. “He’s in a supernova phase at the moment,” said William Cohan, an author who has known Scaramucci personally for seven years. “He’s burning so bright and hot in the feeling that waiting out his foes has paid off.”

Six months into the Trump administration, Scaramucci exploded like a new character in the second series of a TV drama designed to unsettle the cast and spice up storylines. The slick-haired wolf of Wall Street has been unleashed in Washington, a comparatively sedate government town, to bring his shtick to the political class. “The Mooch” is, as New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd put it, “a self-promoter extraordinaire and master salesman who doesn’t mind pushing a bad product – and probably sees it as more fun”.

In his first encounter with the press on 21 July, Scaramucci was smooth and self-assured, blowing a kiss and claiming that he and Priebus were like brothers who roughed each other up once in a while. The former hedge fund manager said his start date would be in a couple of weeks so he could be “100% totally cleansed and clean” of business conflicts, but it was soon clear that he was working at full throttle.

Scaramucci deleted past tweets that showed him expressing admiration for Hillary Clinton and contradicting Trump on everything from climate change to gun control. He was all over the Sunday political TV shows with typical brio aimed at one viewer: his boss. On CBS’s Face the Nation, for example, he said of Trump’s hopes for healthcare legislation: “I don’t know if he’s going to get what he wants next week. But he’s going to get what he wants eventually. Because this guy always gets what he wants. OK? What I know about President Trump is that ... he’s got very, very good karma.”

Scaramucci rapidly began a crusade to purge the White House of staff who have been leaking like a sieve since Trump became president. “I’m going to fire everybody!” he warned. But the first leaker turned out to be the Mooch himself.

On Tuesday, Politico reported that assistant press secretary Michael Short had been sacked, as confirmed by Scaramucci. Short then came forward to say no one had told him. Almost an hour later, Scaramucci, sporting blue-tinted aviator sunglasses, told reporters that the “leak” about Short’s dismissal “really upsets me as a human being and as a Roman Catholic”, conveniently forgetting that he was the source. That afternoon, Short announced his resignation.

Wednesday began with more TV interviews including Trump’s favourite show, Fox and Friends. “What I don’t like about Washington is that people don’t let you know how they feel,” Scaramucci said. “They’re very nice to your face and then they take a shiv or a machete and stab you in the back. I’m a Wall Street guy, I’m more of a front-stabbing person.”

That night, he went to a dinner with guests from central casting of liberal nightmares: Trump and his, first lady Melania Trump; Fox News host Sean Hannity and former Fox News executive Bill Shine. The gathering had not been listed on the official White House schedule. When word of it broke via the New Yorker magazine’s Ryan Lizza, Scaramucci called him to demand who had leaked it, then became convinced that it must be Priebus. According to Lizza’s jaw-dropping account, Scaramucci predicted that the chief of staff would be asked to resign “very shortly” and said: “Reince is a ****ing paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac.”

Scaramucci was also incensed that his financial disclosure form had been made public and again appeared to blame Priebus. But it was not a leak: it was released after a public records request by Politico. On Thursday morning, Scaramucci denied that he was blaming Priebus. He told CNN: “Some brothers are like Cain and Abel. Other brothers can fight with each other and get along. I don’t know if this is reparable or not, that will be up to the president.”

Scaramucci is said to bear a grudge towards Priebus for freezing him out of the administration when Trump became president in January and continuing to resist his appointment as director of communications last week. In his interview with Lizza, Scaramucci also used expletives to describe Steve Bannon, the chief strategist, who had also sought to block him. Scaramucci said he was not like Bannon because “I’m not trying to suck my own ****”.

As Washington reeled from the vulgar outburst and digested his torrid first week, it seemed that the Mooch – whose backers include Trump’s daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner – was loving every moment. Speaking from New York, Cohan, 57, said: “He’s like Trump himself. I don’t think Trump ever expected to win. I don’t think Anthony ever expected to be at the centre of the White House.

“He must be feeling like a pig in ****. ‘OK, I showed my loyalty in spades, I worshipped at the feet of Jivanka and it paid off. Now I’m going to show my uber loyalty to the president.’ But he’s had a rough start. He’s got to curb his enthusiasm, otherwise Trump is going to chew him up and spit him out.”

There is little sign of the enthusiasm being curbed so far. Scaramucci, 53, a construction worker’s son and Harvard Law School graduate, tweeted pictures of himself with Trump on Air Force One, beaming like a giddy tourist. He retweeted a video from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show that demonstrated in split screen the close match between Trump and Scaramucci’s hand gestures.

And the past week has demonstrated that the wealthy New Yorkers have much in common. Both speak and tweet what’s on their mind without any of the usual social safety filters. Both like to publicly shame their colleagues: Trump has been tormenting Attorney General Jeff Sessions in parallel with Scaramucci’s trashing of Priebus.

Scaramucci said on 21 July he had just been in the Oval Office with Trump “and we were talking about letting him be himself, letting him express his full identity”. It seems to have worked. The president has found the arrival of this Mini-Me invigorating, like a shot of adrenaline. Even by his own taboo-busting standards, it has been a wild week.

Speaking to the National Scout Jamboree in Glen Jean, West Virginia, Trump joked about firing his health secretary, Tom Price, who was standing nearby, branded Washington a “cesspool” and “sewer”, condemned “fake media”, gloated about his electoral college victory, promised the scouts they’ll be saying “Merry Christmas” again under his administration and told a rambling anecdote that included a party with “the hottest people in New York”. The head of the Boy Scouts of America subsequently apologised for the “political rhetoric” inserted into what is traditionally a non-partisan event.

Then came a speech that was back to the “American carnage” and braggadocio of Trump’s inaugural address, throwing red meat to his supporters. In Youngstown, Ohio, he painted a lurid picture of “predators and criminal aliens” who “take a young, beautiful girl, 16, 15, and others and they slice them and dice them with a knife because they want them to go through excruciating pain before they die. And these are the animals that we’ve been protecting for so long.” He promised a tough law-and-order response: “We are liberating our towns and we are liberating our cities.”

Scaramucci was thought to be going after Priebus with the president’s blessing; the White House was appreciably reticent about defending its chief of staff. The relationship between Trump and Scaramucci, by contrast, was said to be “symbiotic”, according to Michael Steele, former chairman of the Republican National Committee.

“The president probably feels the best he’s ever felt in the job of president with Scaramucci there,” he said. “For the president it’s not about the substance of policy. It’s about the manic of media, creating a message, building a brand and establishing the reality TV-ness of a presidency.”

Just before 5pm on Friday, the axe fell. Trump said it in a series of tweets: Priebus was out, replaced by homeland security secretary John Kelly. In a first week full of fights, Scaramucci had won his first key battle.

Another scrap of news followed:

Scaramucci’s Wife, Deirdre Ball, Has Filed for Divorce.

Anthony Scaramucci and his wife are reportedly calling it quits. The White House communication director’s wife has filed for divorce just days after Scaramucci took on his new role in President Trump's administration, according to the New York Post.

Deidre Ball was tired of Scaramucci’s “naked ambition, which is so enormous that it left her at her wits’ end,” a source told the Post in a Friday story.

Scaramucci and Ball, who once worked as vice president in investor relations at her husband’s former hedge fund, have reportedly been married for three years and have two children.

A spokesman for Scaramucci declined to comment on Saturday.

“Deidre is not a fan of Trump, she hates him,” a source told the paper, “and she hasn’t exactly been on board and supportive of Anthony and his push to get back into the White House.”

The soap opera was in full swing.

Update re: TRUMP is Most Dangerous President in US History + His Dad was KKK Chief

Toy Soldier Trump Loves Generals and General Kelly is His Last Chance

Dermot McEvoy, Irish Central, 2 August 2017.

President Donald Trump's cabinet in disarray. Spicer, Scaramucci, Priebus... all gone.

All Glory is Fleeting!...

So, six months into his presidency Trump comes to yet another major crisis. This one is called “Who’s in charge here.”

Not since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981 and Secretary of State Al Haig rushed to the White House and anointed himself temporary president has there been such confusion.

Trump doesn’t know which side is up. His philosophy on most topics has been to burn that next bridge when he comes to it rather than try to work with people.

He is now on the precipice of being the worst failed president in history. His administration is, frankly, a joke.

It was evidenced yesterday when the third question by a reporter to Anthony Scaramucci, the just fired Communications Director, was would he listen to an offer from “Dancing with the Stars.”

Can you imagine asking that question of a Karl Rove or a David Gergen?

Spicer, Scaramucci, Priebus! All gone, hopefully soon forgotten, with Attorney General Jeff Sessions clinging to the steering wheel with two legs out of the car in the Trump demolition derby.

It has come down to this: Trump can heed Irish American General John Kelly or he can continue to tweet and cause havoc and not finish his term and endanger America.

It is past time for Trump to stand back and take a very deep breath. He is going through office-holders like the 1962 Mets ran through lousy players. As Jimmy Breslin wrote about those lovable loser Mets, “Can’t Anyone Here Play This Game.”

Right now the White House and Trump look like Chris Cannizarro, the catcher on the 1962 Mets who couldn’t catch the ball, or Marv Throneberry, the first baseman who ran a man down against the Cubs but forgot he didn’t have the ball.

If he wants to make a difference, to retake control of his administration, Trump should give Kelly a chance.

Ditch Ivanka and send her back to her jewellery sweatshops.

Make Jared Ambassador to Bolivia or someplace where he can do no harm. Find Bannon a job in the Dublin Embassy as a janitor. Disregard advice from the sons, a couple of '62 Mets political players you can almost feel sorry for.

Perhaps he should heed the advice of his favorite general, George S. Patton. In Roman victory parades a slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown and whispering in his ear a warning: "All glory is fleeting."

What is General Kelly whispering into Trump’s ear? We’ll soon find out, hopefully not via twitter.

Commander General John Kelly: Can he bring discipline to the White House?

Can Kelly instill discipline?

Apparently young Donald Trump had a bit of a discipline problem.

His daddy Fred decided to pack him off to military school for some discipline. (Warning: it didn’t take.) There’s a wonderful picture of the young Donald in uniform with medals hanging from his chest. One wonders what Trump could have won medals for? Cheer-leading? Excelling at Lego?

Donald Trump in Military School: Are Those Medals for Being 4F?

A young Donald Trump in military school.

But Trump does love those generals. Trump’s military school career seems so trivial when you just look back at some of Trump’s heroic predecessors:

Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of the great Americans of the 20th century.

John F. Kennedy, who got his daddy to get him into the navy and then had his PT boat shot from under him.

Jimmy Carter served a full career as a naval officer in the submarine service.

George H.W. Bush at the age of 20 was a carrier pilot in the Pacific during World War II. His plane was shot down, killing his gunner and he barely escaped with his life.

In the mid-1960s as the war in Vietnam was heating up, Trump started taking draft deferments. Not one, not two, not three, not four, but five deferments. It seems that two of the faux tough guys in American history—Trump and former vice president Dick Cheney—led the world in draft deferments.

I have no problem with people taking draft deferments during the Vietnam War, but don’t go all tough-guy on me when you’re in no danger of being killed or maimed. It’s easy to be tough in front of adoring campaign crowds, but it’s hard when you’re on the ground and people are trying to kill you.

So, it’s interesting that the President of Draft Deferments should love generals.

A few days ago, he brought in General Kelly, who had been serving as DHS secretary. Kelly is supposed to straighten out the mess that this White House is.
Kelly got off to a good start by firing the comical Anthony Scaramucci. Kelly has even started doing the unmentionable – reaching out to the other side.

According to “Daily Beast”:

“Sources in the administration say an outreach campaign by newly minted Chief of Staff John Kelly is in the works to rebuild some bridges and, potentially, chip away at the unified Democratic opposition to President Donald Trump’s agenda. Even before he formally started the job, Kelly was reaching out to top Capitol Hill Democrats in hopes of regaining political capital ahead of what is expected to be a bruising fight over tax reform and other administration priorities.”

On the same day Senator Lamar Alexander reached out on Obamacare to Democrats seeking an accommodation. Are the adults finally home? Is the frat party over?

General Kelly seems like a moderate, a man who can move the dial without twitter, cussing, chest-thumping or firing. He may not last long with Trump as a result. Remember general: “All Glory is Fleeting.”

Or is it Mission Impossible?......

Please, please if nothing else, please pray for our President Trump that God will pour out His wisdom upon him. Lord only knows how much he needs it. Also please pray for his guidance on him and our Country. With what all is going on in the middle-east and N. Korea, I think we all need prayers for guidance and wisdom more than ever in our history. The media in this Country is just using the Russia bull crap to hide the severity of what is truly happening in this world. Keep the sheep dumb and happy and head down the path of slaughter.

Yes he appears mentally unstable, is arrogant, and has insulted and upset the leaders of many countries, which will lessen their support for the US. He is a dangerous man for the stability of the world.

He needs to learn patience, diplomacy, tact and respect for others.

Update re: TRUMP is Most Dangerous President in US History + His Dad was KKK Chief

Donald Trump Has More Power to Launch Military Action Than Any President Since Vietnam War, says Report.

'Trump's predecessors left a legacy of military adventurism that suits his aggressive style,' says report's author

The Independent UK, 10 August 2017.

Donald Trump has more power to go to war than any American president in the last 40 years, a new report has found.

A study published by the University of Waterloo in Canada found the military actions of former presidents George W Bush and Barack Obama have ultimately handed President Trump greater power to carry out military intervention.

In examining US military interventions between 2001 and 2016, the paper found significant parallels in the way Bush and Obama tackled and traversed consultation and authorisation procedures with Congress and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Both of President Trump’s predecessors went to war unilaterally rather than getting permission from Congress.

Although it’s worth noting this is by no means a precedent started by Bush and Obama. Republican and Democrat presidents have a long history of carrying out military operations without approval of congress – especially since the end of the Second World War.

"Right now, Donald Trump has an enormous amount of power to launch military action, perhaps more than any president since the Vietnam War," the report’s author, Aaron Ettinger, said.
"Trump's predecessors left a legacy of military adventurism that suits Trump's aggressive style."

According to the study, since 9/11 both Bush and Obama made efforts to get around domestic and international law in the attempt to balance American independence with respect for international order.

The majority of legal scholars agree America’s founding fathers wanted Congress to make the decision on whether to go to war unless the country is under an attack.

Nevertheless, this has dramatically changed in the modern era, with executive branch lawyers arguing the president, as commander-in-chief, may employ military force unilaterally if they think the strike would be in the national interest.

The report said the world would have to wait to see how recent patterns of American interventionism would manifest themselves in the Trump era and how President Trump would react to mounting global tension.

"Trump's first six months as president have seen tensions rise on the Korean peninsula, ongoing depravity in Syria and Iraq, the devolution of relations with Russia, strains with China, and the alienation of NATO allies," Ettinger, an assistant professor of political science, said.

Quote:

"We will soon see how a president with no foreign affairs experience, an aggressive personality and few restraints will respond to the current global climate."

.

President Trump raised alarm bells about the prospect of a nuclear conflict on Tuesday after he launched his sternest warning to North Korea yet.

He 'tweeted' :

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen”.

Since then Pyongyang has said it is "carefully examining" a plan to strike the US Pacific territory of Guam with missiles.

In April 2017, Trump carried out a missile attack on Syrian forces for using chemical weapons against civilians... without authorisation from Congress or the UNSC.

Update Re: TRUMP is Most Dangerous President in US History

Trump Has Given Permission to Every Nazi Group to Do Their Worst & Remember His Father, Fred Trump, was 1 Head of KKK

Irish Central, 16 August 2017.

Trump has given permission to every Nazi group to do their worst

Over 416,000 Americans gave their lives fighting fascism in the Second World War, a number larger than the population of New Orleans.

Donald Trump insulted every one of them and their sacrifice in New York. He also made the Republican Party the party of Jefferson Davis not Abraham Lincoln.

Trump disgraced himself by defending neo-Nazis who were calling out "Jews will not replace us" and "blood and soil," a Nazi war cry, at Charlottesville on Friday night and Saturday.

There were no good people among those marchers, Mr. President. If there had been, they would have walked away on seeing the Nazi flags and hearing those slogans.

"Blood and Soil" (‘Blut und Boden’) was a very important philosophy for Nazi Germany. It referred to Aryan blood and the purity of the men and women who toiled on the land.

Friday night was a mini Nuremberg rally that ended in deaths and injuries
.

There was no moral equivalence between protesters exercising their First Amendment rights and a Nazi using ISIS tactics to plow a car into innocent opponents. For the president to suggest there was is downright racism.

What he has done is give permission to every Nazi group in America to do their worst and because they know they'll get a nod and a wink from a complicit president.

"You know what George W. Bush and Barack Obama would have done – called the stricken mother of Heather Heyer, the dead woman."

White nationalists, alt-righters, and neo-Nazis marched on Virginia University shouting phrases such as "Jews will not replace us", "Blood and soil" and "White lives matter.

Rupert Murdoch has reportedly been urging Donald Trump to fire racist right-winger Steve Bannon from his White House. Murdoch might rethink and try and get rid of Trump as well.

Murdoch is Trump's biggest enabler, his Fox News the equivalent of Pravda for Trump. Every night the station bombards it's "Four legs good, two legs bad" propaganda taken straight from "Animal Farm."

Only Republicans can fire Donald Trump. They hold all the aces in the House and in the Senate. So far they have failed to dirty their hands and confront him. Finally, given Speaker Paul Ryan's tweet condemning the Nazis, they might be getting ready to man up. Impeachment must surely be a necessary evil now.

There are white supremacists within the White House too.

Even right wing Glenn Beck has compared Trump advisor Steve Bannon to the Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels and called Irish American Bannon “quite possibly the most dangerous guy in all of American politics."

The opinion is shared by many. “I don’t think that White House has a chance of functioning properly as long as there’s a resident lunatic fringe,”

Mark Salter, a longtime adviser to Senator John McCain, told The New York Times. Bannon, he said, seems willing to “tolerate something that’s intolerable” in Mr. Trump’s base.

Beck's and Salter’s words have been proven prophetic by events in Charlottesville and the aftermath. There is no doubt Trump’s refusal to condemn the Nazis was out of the Bannon playbook.

Bannon, Trump’s close advisor, spoke to the president before he made his mealy-mouthed remarks and, according to The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman, the best and most informed journalist covering the White House, he convinced Trump not to call out the KKK or white supremacists by name – a position Trump clearly agreed with.

Haberman also revealed that Bannon had spoken to Trump all over that weekend, urging him to hold the line and not attack his base, as Bannon put it.

Only when the pressure became too great did Trump relent and overrule Bannon.

However, on Tuesday in his press conference, Trump was back on Bannon’s wavelength blaming both sides, declaring protesters were as guilty as Nazis and the KKK.

Steve Bannon claims to have been influenced by his Irish-Catholic upbringing and Irish heritage

Trump's Cheif Strategist Steve Bannon.

Trump has rarely read a book
..

But Bannon provides the intellectual underpinning for his racist views.

Bannon is a lover of Fascist writers, which is surprising given his Irish-Catholic upbringing.

The KKK and other groups of the same ilk have as much hatred for Catholics as they do Jews or African-Americans.

Worse, Bannon credits his Irish heritage for his views.

“I come from a blue-collar, Irish Catholic, pro-Kennedy, pro-union family of Democrats,” says Bannon, by way of explaining his politics. “I wasn’t political until I got into the service and saw how badly Jimmy Carter f---ed things up. I became a huge Reagan admirer. Still am. But what turned me against the whole establishment was coming back from running companies in Asia in 2008 and seeing that Bush had f---ed up as badly as Carter. The whole country was a disaster.”

“Trump,” Bannon proclaimed, “is the leader of a populist uprising … Elites have taken all the upside for themselves and pushed the downside to the working- and middle-class Americans … Trump saw this. The American people saw this. And they have risen up to smash it.”

A recent story by the Huffington Post revealed Bannon’s leanings. He loves a book called “The Camp of the Saints,” a French novel that outlines a race war between the “civilized” white West and the evil brown hordes of the so-called East.

In the book, the author describes hordes of Indians trying to conquer white Western Christendom as “thousands of wretched creatures” and “turd-eaters.”

The book is described as “nothing less than a call to arms for the white Christian West, to revive the spirit of the Crusades and steel itself for bloody conflict against the poor black and brown world without and the traitors within.”

Trump’s right-hand man also loves Nazi-affiliated Italian philosopher Julius Evola. Evola, who was virulently racist and anti-Semitic, was a big fan of Nazi leader Heinrich Himmler.

Evola spent years in Nazi Germany, where he proudly declared himself to be a “super fascist.”

Today’s Nazis love Evola too. Neo-fascist leader Richard Spencer told the Times he was excited that Bannon knew of Evola.

“It means a tremendous amount,” Spencer said, adding that Trump’s chief counselor “is at least open to them.”

It is incredible that a man with such views has such a close relationship with the President of the United States and worse that a president with a daughter and son-in-law of the Jewish faith tolerates him so openly. America did not vote for accommodation with fascism, Mr. President. The 418,000 Americans who died fighting it in World War II would surely agree.

I feel sorry for many friends of mine, good people, who voted for this man. We live in desperate times and the only hope seems to be that Republicans will remember their Lincoln roots and cast out the racists in their midst

Thanks but I'll have to disagree or as they say agree to disagree. He did come out Sat. and denounce all bigotry and hate groups but because he did not mention the white supremacist idiots by name so many thought he didn't go far enough. Although even some of the criticism from his own party had made practically the very same statements. Then when he did come out later and mention the white supremacist, it still wasn't good enough. It all goes back to George Soros and his hiring of protestors during the election.
As far as Trumps father being a member of the KKK, never proven as follows by Truthorfiction.com.

Donald Trump, Trump Family Members, Members of KKK-Fiction! & Unproven!
Summary of eRumor:
Accusations that Donald Trump is a member of the Ku Klux Klan, or that Trump’s father was a member of the KKK, have gone viral.
The Truth:
Accusations about the Trump family’s ties to the Ku Klux Klan are both false and unproven.
These accusations surfaced in September 2015 after a New York Times report was unearthed from 1927 that identified a man named Fred Trump, the name of Donald’s father, among those arrested in a brawl between KKK members and the NYPD. Fred Trump’s address was the same as an address he listed in Census records, but other details of the arrest are unclear, Boing Boing reports:
In an article subtitled “Klan assails policeman”, Fred Trump is named in among those taken in during a late May “battle” in which “1,000 Klansmen and 100 policemen staged a free-for-all.” At least two officers were hurt during the event, after which the Klan’s activities were denounced by the city’s Police Commissioner, Joseph A. Warren.
“The Klan not only wore gowns, but had hoods over their faces almost completely hiding their identity,” Warren was quoted as saying in the article, which goes on to identify seven men “arrested in the near-riot of the parade.”
Named alongside Trump are John E Kapp and John Marcy (charged with felonious assault in the attack on Patrolman William O’Neill and Sgt. William Lockyear), Fred Lyons, Thomas Caroll, Thomas Erwin, and Harry J Free. They were arraigned in Jamaica, N.Y. All seven were represented by the same lawyers, according to the article.
The final entry on the list reads: “Fred Trump of 175-24 Devonshire Road, Jamaica, was discharged.”
In 1927, Donald Trump’s father would have been 21 years old, and not yet a well-known figure. Multiple sources report his residence at the time—and throughout his life—at the same address.
The NYPD has said that police reports from the incident are unavailable, and it’s unclear why Fred Trump was arrested, and what his involvement was. Given that Trump could have been an innocent bystander who got tangled up in the melee, or that he could have been fighting against KKK members, the accusation that he was a member of the KKK is unproven.

The Rev. Pierre Bynum article says it best on the Charlottesville incidence.

Charlottesville -- Another horrific manifestation of the racial divide that persists in our nation was displayed in historic Charlottesville, home to Thomas Jefferson's University of Virginia. The city council's vote to remove the statue of General Robert E. Lee drew hundreds of protestors and counter protestors, who clashed violently -- screaming, punching, clubbing, hurling water bottles and spraying one another with harsh chemicals before the scheduled demonstration. White supremacists, KKK, and neo-Nazis came to the demonstration, some armed for violence. Counter protestors, too, arrived, some similarly armed. Some were injured in clashes. Later, a man from Ohio with links to white supremacist activity rammed his car into a crowd of counter-protestors, killing one woman and injuring 19. Two law enforcement officers also died in a helicopter crash. The tragic loss of life was as great as the violence was senseless.
This confrontation only magnifies the political, cultural, racial, and religious divides that already exist in our country. While many have cherry picked the president's statements, few reported these words:
"Above all else, we must remember this truth: No matter our color, creed, religion or political party, we are all Americans first. We love our country. We love our God. We love our flag. We are proud of our country. We're proud of who we are. So we want to get the situation straightened out in Charlottesville and we want to study it and we want to see what we're doing wrong as a country, where things like this can happen. My administration is restoring the sacred bonds of loyalty between this nation and its citizens -- but our citizens must also restore the bonds of trust and loyalty between one another. We must love each other, respect each other and cherish our history and our future together. So important. We have to respect each other. Ideally, we have to love each other."
Then President Trump condemned the violence, no matter the originator. Later, he called out some of the extremist groups by name. But his message about respecting and loving each other has been lost in a whirlwind of sanctimonious censure, some even questioning his humanity.
A group of conservative black pastors and Christian leaders held a press conference in Washington yesterday to respond to the media's attacks on the president. Corrogan Vaughn, a black Republican who in 2016 challenged incumbent Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), argued that "those in the media who blame Trump for the racial tension in the United States are trying to turn Trump into a villain... Don't make our commander in chief a villain when in actuality it is more the [villainy] of the media in terms of making something where nothing is."

May the Church be wholly identified with Jesus Christ as Lord and love one another out of obedience to His commandment. May we stand against racism of every kind and encourage respect and love for one another as creations of God. May we advocate for justice and the swift execution of the laws against every form of violence. May all among us stand for the liberty to think and speak freely while rejecting every form of political correctness and identity politics. May we never forget our nation's history, the good and bad, knowing that God, Himself, was careful to include in Holy Scripture both the goodness and the sins of the men and women he used in Bible history so that we could learn from both.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people -- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4
