H.H. Holmes Was Jack The Ripper? Great-Great-Great-Grandson Of Chicago Serial Killer Floats Theory

Huffiington Post/Daily Mail UK: 03/12/2012

Could two of the most notorious serial killers of the 19th century be the same man?

That's what Jeff Mudgett, the great-great-great-grandson of Chicago murderer H.H. Holmes believes. Mudgett says that writing samples from his notorious ancestor examined by experts suggest that Holmes and Jack the Ripper are, in fact, the same person, the Daily Mail reports.

One handwriting analyst fed the two samples into a computer program that determined there was a 97.95 percent chance the samples are a match, WGN reported. The theory is also presented in Mudgett's book, "Bloodstains."

Holmes, who admitted to killing 27 people in the late 1890s, also apparently had a similar modus operandi to Jack the Ripper. After killing his victims, Holmes would dissect the corpses, selling the skeletons to medical schools, according to the Daily Mail.

Jack the Ripper mutilated the internal organs of his victims, which caused many to believe the killer was surgically trained.

On his website, the author said, "Anyone familiar with writing these days knows there may be a hundred, maybe two, writers making a living these days from what turns out for the majority a hobby. And self-published first timers, well forget it."

History of other Famous Horrific Murders;
  • "Young L.A. Girl Slain; Body Slashed in Two" -L.A.'s Daily News

On January 15, 1947, the remains of Elizabeth Short, were found in a vacant lot in Los Angeles. What made this discovery the stuff of tabloid sensation, however, was the Glasgow smile left on the aspiring actress' face--made with 3-inch slashes on each side. This, coupled with Short's dark hair, fair complexion and reputation for sporting a dahlia in her hair, dubbed her "The Black Dahlia" in headlines. What followed was a media circus filled with rumors and speculation about the promiscuous 22-year-old's checkered past. What haunts theorists to this day, apart from the victim's uniquely nightmarish visage, is that the case remains unsolved after some 200 suspects were interviewed and ultimately released--making it one of Hollywood's most lurid legends.
  • "I Am Not Guilty - Thus Lizzie Borden Pleads Before Judge Hammond at New Bedford." -Boston Journal

"Lizzie Borden took an axe And gave her mother forty whacks. And when she saw what she had done, She gave her father forty-one." So goes the lurid nursery rhyme to one of the most mystifying crimes of the century. The nature of the deaths of Andrew J. Borden and his wife, Abby, are trumped only by the identity of the alleged perpetrator: their daughter, Lizzie. Inexplicably found "not guilty" in contrast to the era's zeitgeist of swift justice, Lizzie's legacy--guilty or not--has become immortalized as one of the most perplexing cases of parricide in history.
  • "Texas Mother Charged with Killing Her 5 Children" -CNN

In a case of mother-gone-mad that startled a nation, Andrea Yates, to her few friends and neighbors, was known as a mere recluse suffering from postpartum depression leading up to the birth of her fifth child. That all changed on June 20, 2001, when she snapped, drowning five of her children in their home's bathtub. She was convicted in 2002 of capital murder, carrying a sentence of life in prison with possible parole. As of July 2006, however, a Texas jury found her not guilty by reason of insanity.
  • "Buttafuoco Admits to Sex with Amy Fisher" -New York Times

Known as the "Long Island Lolita," Fisher became involved with Joey Buttafuoco in May of 1991. Shortly after the two began a sexual relationship (she, 16, while he, 35, was married with two children), his presence and influence in her life became all she cared for. In what he's since denied to this day, Buttafuoco would go on to help an obsessive Fisher plan the murder of his wife, culminating in Fisher putting a bullet in Mary Jo Buttafuoco's head, but failing to kill her. In the highly publicized trial that ensued, Fisher accepted a plea deal for 15 years in prison in exchange for a testimony against Joey, who faced and served out charges of statutory rape.
  • "Murder of a Little Beauty" -People Magazine

With a face that graced the covers of nearly every news and gossip rag during the winter of '96, it's hard to suggest the death of child beauty pageant queen JonBenét Ramsey had little effect outside the city of Boulder, Colorado. Found dead from a blow to the head and strangulation in the family's basement, coupled with a ransom note left on the staircase asking for $118,00 (conveniently or coincidentally, nearly the same amount Mr. Ramsey received as a bonus that year), as well as no obvious signs of forced entry into the house, the evidence was overwhelmingly stacked against parents John and Patsy, who managed to maintain their innocence throughout the investigation. The case reopened in 2010, but critics cite poor handling of the crime scene as obstructing what remains a mystery regarding the events of that Christmas day.
  • "F.B.I. Joins Probe in Slaughter of 8 Nurses" -Nashua Telegraph

Tattooed with "Born to Raise Hell" on his arm, Richard Speck made good on his mantra through a history of violence, theft, alcoholism, and spousal abuse, but made his infamy known to all when, on July 13, 1966, he walked into a dormitory armed with a knife. After leaving 8 student nurses dead in his wake, only one, Cora Amurao, was spared--hiding under a bed until 6 a.m. Speck was found guilty of murder and died of a heart attack in prison. As one of the most press-worthy crimes of the decade, the grim events were used most recently as the backdrop for an episode of Mad Men
  • "Sharon Tate, Four Others Murdered" -Los Angeles Times

Perhaps the most terrifying figure in American crime to have never actually killed anyone himself, Charles Manson founded a "family" of wayward individuals who hailed him as a prophet. So strong was his manipulation, he ordered, on the night of Aug. 8, 1969, four of his followers to kill everyone at the residence of 10050 Cielo Drive--including Roman Polanski's wife, Sharon Tate, and her unborn child. Tate was stabbed 16 times, and her blood was used to write "pig" on the house's front door. The next night, Manson accompanied six of his family to the residence of supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife, only to help bind them before ordering their deaths. In 1971, Manson and three of his fellow defendants were found guilty of murder in the first-degree and several other crimes. At the time, it was the longest murder trial in American history, spanning nine and a half months, as well as the most expensive, estimating $1 million. Manson was denied parole for the 12th time in April 2012.
  • "Lindbergh Baby Kidnapped from Home of Parents on Farm Near Princeton; Taken from His Crib; Wide Search on" -The New York Times

Used as the basis for an Agatha Christie novel (Murder on the Orient Express) and dubbed "the biggest story since the Resurrection" by famed journalist H.L. Mencken, the kidnapping and murder of aviator Charles Lindbergh's infant son continues to fascinate theorists today. Charles Jr. was discovered missing from his second-floor bedroom on March 1, 1932, along with a note demanding a then-unimaginable $50,000, igniting a media frenzy like no other. The tabloid pandemonium prompted many tips and leads, but none as concrete as a package containing the boy's pajamas and another message demanding the ransom. After some misdirection from the presumed kidnapper, Lindbergh's child was soon after discovered in the woods along a road near the family residence. Notwithstanding the evidence stockpiled against the easily vilified illegal German immigrant Bruno Hauptmann (who was sentenced), speculation prevails as to the true identity of the caper responsible in this tragic tale of one of America's greatest heroes.
  • "Not Guilty as Sin" -NY Post

Still fresh in the minds of many and not to easily be forgotten, the trial of Casey Anthony turned Orlando, Florida into anything but the "happiest place on earth." Following a series of lies, misdirection and manipulation by then-22 year old Casey, Caylee's skeletal remains were found five months into the investigation, setting the stage for what could only be described as the most incessantly publicized and shocking trial in recent memory. The media had a field day that went on for months: Highlighting the young, pretty, party girl image used against her in court as the prosecution tore apart an aimless defense--or so it seemed. After resorting to throwing her family under the bus, incriminating people entirely made-up ("Zanny the Nanny"), and fabricating elaborate stories for the police, Casey was found not guilty of murder due to evidence deemed mostly circumstantial and not meeting the burden of "beyond reasonable doubt," inciting much debate regarding whether true justice was served.
  • "An American Tragedy" -TIME

Known and heralded as the "trial of the century," former football star and actor O.J. Simpson found himself in the middle of the nation's biggest, most-televised trial following the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, but not before fleeing an all-points bulletin in his Ford Bronco with 20 units in tow, interrupting game 5 of the NBA Finals. By enlisting a dream team including Johnnie Cochran, Robert Shapiro, and Robert Kardashian, the defense claimed Simpson was merely a victim of police fraud with regard to contaminated DNA evidence, while famously quipping "If it [the glove] doesn't fit, you must acquit." On October 3, 1995, an estimated 100 million people from around the world tuned in to watch the jury hand down a verdict of not guilty, consequently resulting in an estimated loss of $480 million in productivity and inciting an ongoing discussion of race in the judicial system that continues to this day.

Oh Crap! PHOTOs-Serial Killer Locked in Cage by Mum=11yrs

The Mentally ill Killer forced to live Locked in a Cage for 11 years by his own mother over fears he will strike again in China

  • Wang Muxiang made the cage after her son was released
  • In 2001, Wu Yuanhong beat to death a 13-year-old boy
By Daily Mail UK, 28 May 2013

The sickening story of how a mother has been forced to cage and shackle her mentally ill son in a homemade cage for 11 years has emerged from China.

The 74-year-old Wang Muxiang made the cage after her son Wu Yuanhong murdered a teenager in his village in Ruichang, Jiangxi Province, while reportedly suffering an episode of 'psychosis'.

In 2001, Wu beat to death a 13-year-old boy in the same village. He was released home a year later because he suffered from mental illness.

Mother Wang Muxiang tried to find someone who would weld her a strong cage for her son. The local blacksmiths refused out of fear the sick man may attack them in revenge if he escaped.

Wang Muxiang described how she was forced to build it herself.

'I wielded the cage while crying heavily. Although he suffers from mental illness and killed a person, he still is my son.

'Thinking I am making a cage to lock him in, my heart was broken.'

Angry VIDEO-Pervert Child Serial Killer Storms out of Hearing

Moors Murderer Ian Brady, 75, Storms out of Tribunal Claiming Evidence is 'ad nauseam'

  • Ian Brady's pen taken away last year after he used it as a 'potential weapon'
  • Murderer claimed he was 'afraid' of being attacked by other patients
  • Hospital lawyer says it shows he has delusions linked with schizophrenia
  • He walked out of the hearing claiming he had 'listened to this ad nauseam'
  • Child killer's mental health tribunal began yesterday
  • He wants to get out of his high security hospital and die in jail
  • Brady has been on hunger strike for a decade and is force-fed via a tube
By Daily Mail UK, 18 June 2013

Brady, sketched at the tribunal yesterday taking notes, is not allowed a pen while in the secure hospital
in Merseyside, after he used it as a potential weapon

Moors Murderer Ian Brady walked out of his mental health tribunal today, complaining he had 'listened to this ad nauseam'.
But he was quickly slapped down by the judge who warned him 'we will hear the evidence.'

The child killer even suggested a panel member had fallen asleep at one point during the hearing.

The tribunal is being held because Brady wants to be judged sane and moved from maximum security Ashworth Hospital on Merseyside, where he is being force fed, to a prison, where he believes he will be free to starve himself to death.

The 75-year-old complained that he had heard all the evidence before as a criminal psychologist was questioned over several hours about his mental health.
At the end of Dr Adrian Grounds's evidence, Judge Robert Atherton, chair of the three-man tribunal panel, asked if Brady wanted to say something.

Brady, wearing dark sunglasses, a dark jacket, white shirt and tie, spoke in a low, gravelly Scottish accent.

Many of his words were inaudible.
Referring to Dr Cameron Boyd, who sits on the tribunal panel, Brady said: 'It even apparently lulls him to sleep.'

The mental health tribunal itself is taking place behind closed doors
at Ashworth Hospital on Merseyside

Two faces of a killer: A sketch of Brady, feeding tube in nose, and in 1965

Brady said he had left the tribunal for around two hours this morning because the lawyers and the witness were going over old ground.

'I've listened to this ad nauseam. I know it by heart,' Brady said.

But Judge Atherton cut him off, saying: 'We will hear the evidence.
'If we take the view someone is wasting time you can be pretty certain they will be told.'

The hearing is being held in a room inside Ashworth and relayed by video to Manchester Civil Justice Centre.

killer Myra Hindley's victims at a court 40 miles away in Manchester

Moors murder victim Lesley Ann Downey, who was just 10 when she was sadistically murdered

The tribunal heard evidence today about his behaviour inside the hospital.
He only comes out of his room at night and shuns contact with others, partly due to his superiority complex.
But he also fears other patients and habitually carried a pen between his knuckles as an improvised weapon, until it was taken away.
As well as his "nocturnal" existence, Brady was described as contemptuous of his peers. He shows anger that can erupt over minor matters and unleashes verbal tirades against staff and other patients, the tribunal heard.
He also targets individuals, both staff and patients, attempts to manipulate others, bypasses security and bends the rules to suit himself.
He will only deal with people "high up" the hospital hierarchy - consistent with his narcissistic personality disorder, the tribunal heard.

Brady, who has been on hunger strike since 1999, claims he has faked psychotic episodes by 'acting' in the past.
The hearing was told of hospital records from January 29 this year stating how Brady has now 'almost totally isolated himself'.

Innocent: Keith Bennett (above) and John Kilbride were murdered by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.
Keith's body is still missing. Brady has never revealed the whereabouts of the 12-year-old's body

Grim search: Police scour Saddleworth Moor for the bodies of the children killed by
Ian Brady and Myra Hindley in this 1986 file picture

Ian Brady (right) arriving at court by taxi in 1966.
He is Britain's longest-serving prisoner

Evil: Myra Hindley died in hospital aged 60 after
suffering respiratory failure in 2002

Following a seizure last July, hospital notes recorded him saying: 'If I have to, I will never let them see me in pain. I will act as if I have not a care in the world.'
Brady is currently 'nursed' in the hospital setting because he is regarded as being severely mentally ill.
But if he was deemed fit to be returned to a jail, the regime would be much less 'tolerant and flexible' of his behaviour and the abuse he metes out to staff and others, the tribunal heard.

Dr Grounds, a criminologist and forensic psychologist called by Brady's legal team to support his case, told the hearing Brady wished to have control over the manner and timing of his death but that view did not arise out of mental illness.

Brady reasoned he had no prospects of release or of a better life.
He said Brady had a lifelong severe personality disorder which had not diminished at Ashworth Hospital.

However, psychotic symptoms of mental illness he had shown in prison had reduced. He said it was possible he could relapse if transferred to prison but added that the prison system could manage his current condition.

A further review to decide if he needed to be returned to hospital could take place if his mental health deteriorated, Dr Grounds added.

Brady and partner Myra Hindley murdered five youngsters in the 1960s, burying their bodies on Saddleworth Moor above Manchester.

Both were jailed for life at Chester Assizes in 1966. Hindley died in jail in November 2002 at the age of 60.

END

Brady and his sick twisted girlfriend Myra Hindley, kept the children captive,
brutally tortured and sexually abused them, before finally murdering them

Here are videos where you can watch the full story... (About one hour long)

But
WARNING, they are very disturbing

Thumbs Up Serial Killer Found after 25 yrs=Dead Prisoner's Diary

Serial killer finally named as suspect in cold case of missing Florida coed after 25 years thanks to dead prisoner's diary

  • 20-year-old Tiffany Sessions was last seen leaving her Gainesville apartment in February 1989
  • The University of Florida student's case gained national attention thanks to her pretty face and a $250,000 reward offer
  • Police now believe Sessions was murdered by serial killer Paul Eugene Rowles, who died in a Miami-area prison last year
  • Police and Sessions' family believe Rowles' diary contains coded messages that reference Tiffany and three other victims
By Daily Mail UK, 6 February 2014

A Florida college student's suspected killer was named Wednesday after her missing persons case sat unsolved for just over 25 years and its all thanks to the killer's need to chronicle his sinister deeds.

Tiffany Sessions vanished while out for a walk in February 1989. The blonde 20-year-old's pretty, smiling face gained national attention after her parents, desperate for her safe return, promised a $250,000 reward.
Now, long after the case went cold, Tiffany's family believes they can put a face and a name to the man responsible for her fate: convicted rapist, kidnapper and killer Paul Eugene Rowles. And they may soon find her body.

New evidence: Tiffany Sessions has been missing since 1989 after she went for a walk in Gainesville, Florida and investigators and her family now believe they know who killed her.

They've also renewed the search for her body and on Wednesday began excavating the spot where she may have been buried

The Sessions family will never come face-to-face with Rowles, though. He died in a Miami-area prison last year.
That death, however, is what helped police finally put a crack in the case after so many years.
Rowles left behind a diary that included the date Tiffany disappeared--February 9, 1989--alongside the number 2.
Patrick Sessions, now 67 and living in Coconut Grove, announced Wednesday that investigators believe that indicated his daughter was the killer's second victim.
Also in the dairy were what investigators believe are coded references to the names of three dead or missing women, including New Jersey native Elizabeth Foster, who was killed in 1992.

'It may not be a smoking gun, but it's close': Patrick Sessions, pictured, told reporters at a news conference Thursday

Police have all but named dead murderer Paul Eugene Rowles as the killer as he begged anyone with information to come forward and help close the case of his missing daughter after 25 years

'He's destroyed three, four families that we know of': Paul Eugene Rowles left behind a diary when he died in a Florida prison last year that Mr. Sessions believes lists Tiffany as his second victim.

Top, Patrick Sessions and his son Jason watch as authorities start excavating a field where another possible Rowles victim was found in 1992 in hopes of finding Tiffany's remains

Searching: Alachua County Sheriff's deputies started searching for the body of Tiffany Sessions on Wednesday in Gainesville. It's the same area where police found the body of Elizabeth Foster twenty years ago and is just a mile from where Sessions vanished

Two years ago, police linked Rowles to Foster's death. Foster's body was found in 1992 just a mile from where Tiffany Sessions disappeared three years before.
Police also believe one of the referenced women, presumably Rowles' first victim, is a Miami woman he served prison time for murdering before being set free in 1985.

'To me, the case is solved,' Patrick Sessions said as he watched excavators root around for his dead daughter in the same swampy field where Foster's remains were found. 'I’m convinced this is the guy who did it.'

Tiffany's mother seems to agree.

Cold case gets warmer: Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell announces to the gathered media on Thursday that detectives have identified a suspect, Paul Rowles, in the 1989 disappearance of Tiffany Sessions

Both Tiffany's father Patrick (left) and mother Hilary (right) have held out hope all these years that the family would gain some closure. 'There is a solution to every case,' said Hilary

Strange reunion: Patrick Sessions, at center, the father of Tiffany Sessions, hugs Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell at a dig site that may possibly contain the remains of his daughter Tiffany, who went missing 25 years ago

Reopened: After all these years, the new evidence has prompted authorities to start digging for Sessions' remains in an area where police believe Rowles could have dumped her body

'There is a solution to every case,' Hilary Sessions, who now lives Valrico, said. 'Some take longer than others. You just have to have faith.'
Over the years, that faith was tested many time.

Tiffany, a University of Florida student, disappeared from her Gainesville apartment with just a tape player. She said she was going out for an evening walk and was never heard from again.
In the years since, the family sent out fliers, held news conferences and even bought billboards touting their considerable reward.

At least 1,000 leads were generated over the years only to disappoint the Hilary, Patrick and Tiffany's little brother Jason.
'It is just horrible to wake up every day and not have a clue what's going on,' said Patrick Sessions told the Tampa Bay Times.

Sessions will no longer wake up wondering who took his daughter away.
Paul Eugene Rowles, who died of cancer last year at a South Florida prison, denied any connection to Sessions' disappearance before his death as police questioned him over Foster's murder.

But the notes he left behind suggested otherwise.

Quarter century: Tiffany's youth, blonde hair and bubbly good looks helped generate national attention on the case, as did the family's promise of a $250,000 reward. After years, though, leads and interest faded

Another victim: Two years before his death, Rowles was implicated in the 1992 murder of Elizabeth Foster, whose body was discovered just a mile from where Sessions disappeared in Gainesville

'It may not be a smoking gun, but it's close,' said Mr. Sessions.

Rowles died serving a 19 year sentence for the 1994 rape and kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl in Clearwater.
Thankfully, that girl was able to escape.

Prior to that, Rowles served time for killing his female next door neighbor in 1972. He was released in 1985 after only 9 years.
Rowles, police say, was working construction in Gainseville in right along Sessions' exercise route when she disappeared.
On Thursday, police announced the break in the Sessions case as they excavated in the area in hopes of finding Sessions' remains.
The Sessions family attended the press conference near the site alongside Gainesville mayor Ed Braddy and thanked each of the many investigators and journalists with whom they’ve worked since 1989.

'So why are we here and what do we know,' asked Mr. Sessions as he pointed to photos of Rowles. 'This guy is the scum of the earth. He's destroyed three, four families that we know of...no remorse.'

  • Joran Van der Sloot, 26, tied the knot with his 24-year-old girlfriend Leidy Figueroa at Piedras Gordas penitentiary Friday
  • The Dutch national remains the chief suspect in the 2005 disappearance of American 18-year-old Natalee Holloway
  • Holloway was on a high school trip to Aruba and was last seen with Van der Sloot and another man; her body has never been found
  • Van der Sloot is currently serving a 28-year sentence for killing 21-year-old Peruvian student Stephany Flores
  • He met his newlywed wife in prison where she works selling candies and cigarettes to the inmates
Daily Mail UK, 5 July 2014

Convicted killer Joran Van der Sloot can now truly appreciate the expression ‘ball and chain.’
The prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway married his pregnant Peruvian girlfriend Friday in a ceremony at the maximum-security prison where he is serving 28 years for murdering a woman he met in a Lima casino.
Van der Sloot, 26, tied the knot with Leidy Figueroa, 24, in a private ceremony. Prison officials prohibited video and photos during the midday nuptials and none of the groom's relatives attended, said his attorney, Maximo Altez.

Prison romance: Leidy Figueroa, seven-months pregnant bride of Dutch citizen Joran Van der Sloot, arrives for her wedding ceremony in Piedras Gordas penitentiary July 4

Groom: Joran van der Sloot, 26, the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teen Natalee Holloway, married his pregnant Peruvian girlfriend on Friday, July 4, 2014 in a ceremony at the maximum-security prison where he is serving 28 years for murdering a woman he met in a Lima casino

Wearing a tailored suit and dress shoes sent by his mother, Van der Sloot told his bride, who is seven months pregnant, that after he is released from prison, ‘”I want to marry you again,' and she told him the same,”’ said John Barrera, who officiated the wedding as mayor of the city of Ancon, where the prison is located.

The blushing bride showed off her growing baby bump in a conservative white ‘mullet’ dress paired with a matching shawl. To complete her wedding day look, Figueroa wore a flower in her hair.
Van der Sloot met and fell in love with Figueroa while she was selling goods inside the prison, according to his attorney.

Speaking to reporters outside the prison, Altez showed an oil painting given to him by Van der Sloot depicting a tall, solitary woman in a red dress on a palm-studded beach under a radiant sun.
The attorney, who acted as a witness during the ceremony, was one of only four people in attendance, among them another lawyer and the bride’s mother.

Van der Sloot was the last person seen with Holloway, who vanished while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba. No charges were filed against Van der Sloot.

In 2011, he confessed to killing Stephany Flores, a 21-year-old business student, five years to the day after Holloway's disappearance.

Van der Sloot is expected to remain in prison until 2038 and then be extradited to the United States to face charges of extortion and fraud for allegedly falsely promising to lead Holloway's mother to the girl's body in exchange for payment.

They found love in a hopeless place: Van der Sloot met Leidy Figueroa in prison where she sells candy and cigarettes to inmates; they will welcome their first child in September

'They became friends and spent a lot of time together in his cell,' Altez said earlier this year. 'Unlike the United States, here in Peru, loved ones or relatives can see inmates inside their jails.'
Figueroa is due to give birth to Van der Sloot's child in September. All prisoners at the penitentiary are allowed conjugal visits, explaining Figueroa's pregnancy.

Peruvian media have floated the possibility that Van der Sloot decided to get married to avoid extradition to the U.S. at the end of his prison term.
But his attorney has dismissed the suggestion that the nuptials were a calculated move.

‘He's getting married because he's in love and is having a child,’ Altez said in May. ‘There are no hidden agendas.’

Leidy Figueroa said earlier this year that she usually visits Van der Sloot twice a week and brings him home-cooked meals.

According to the bride, the convict has become a new person and is enjoying his prison arts and crafts classes.

Van der Sloot is currently in prison for confessing to killing 21-year-old business student Stephany Flores at a Lima casino in 2010. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison in 2012.

Van der Sloot is also suspected of killing 18-year-old Holloway, who vanished during a high school graduation trip to Aruba in 2005 and was last seen with him and another man.

Mystery: Natalee Holloway went missing from Aruba in 2005 while on a high school trip. She was last seen with Van der Sloot and another man. Her body was never recovered

Targets: Van der Sloot is currently in prison for the 2010 murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in Peru. Van der Sloot pictured during the Flores trial in 2012

The Alabama teen's body has not been found and Van Der Sloot has denied involvement in her disappearance.

More than two decades from now, Van der Sloot will face charges in the U.S. for accepting $25,000 from Holloway's mom to lead her to the girl's body, something he never did.

Van der Sloot has been spending his sentence teaching English to other inmates and painting.

Oh Crap! PhOtOs-Jack the Ripper’s Final Victim to be Exhumed

Body of Jack the Ripper’s Irish Final Victim to be Exhumed for Answers

Irish Central, 19 Nov 2015

The body of Jack The Ripper's Irish victim is set to be exhumed following the release of a new theory on the identity of the mysterious Victorian serial killer.

After examining new claims, Britain's Ministry of Justice has indicated it will grant an exhumation licence for the grave of Limerick-born Mary Jane Kelly, also known as Marie Jeanette Kelly.

Kelly, a prostitute, was just 25 when she was butchered to death in 1888 in London's Whitechapel area and is believed to be the fifth and last of the shadowy killer's victims.

It is the first time the remains of any of the Ripper's victims have been exhumed.

The move follows claims in a new book, 'The Real Mary Kelly', that the Ripper was a man called Francis Spurzheim Craig, a journalist who reported on police courts in the East End of London at the time of the murders.

[As reported in The Telegraph], the book's author, Dr Wynne Weston-Davies, believes Craig killed Kelly, his wife, as an act of revenge after she secretly returned to prostitution shortly after they married in 1885.

He argues that the murders of the four other women acted as "cover" for his act of vengeance – and that his intention was to make the crime appear like the work of a serial killer, rather than a spurned husband.

Dr. Weston-Davies also believes that Kelly – who was raised in Wales after moving from Limerick – was his great-aunt, something he intends to confirm through DNA tests on her remains.

Death certificate for Mary Jane Kelly

The British Ministry of Justice has said it is willing to give the green light to the licence on the condition that Dr. Weston-Davies can produce a letter from a laboratory willing to do the DNA testing and that a notice of the exhumation is posted on the grave for three months.

He said he hopes that by proving Kelly's identity through DNA testing on her remains, the link between her and Francis Craig will be more certain and help reinforce his theory.

Of all the Ripper's victims, the least is known about Kelly, despite repeated attempts to trace her long-lost Irish relatives.

Another Ripper expert, Keith Andrews, believes Kelly was deliberately targeted because she had Irish republican links and may have been plotting a revolution.

The Ripper's identity still remains a mystery – and more than likely will never be known.

One theory is that the serial killer was not so much a psychopath as a trained assassin hired by the British establishment to carry out the brutal murders in 1888.

Breaking News PhOtOs-PEDO/Kidnapper/Child Murderer Dies in Prison

Breaking News:

Convicted Child Killer Robert Black 68, Who Kidnapped, Abused and Murdered Four Young Girls Has Died in Prison

  • Notorious child killer Robert Black has died in prison of natural causes
  • Black was found guilty in 1994 of three child murders in the 1980s
  • In 2013 he was convicted of the murder of nine-year-old Jennifer Cardy
Daily Mail UK, 12 January 2016

Notorious child murderer Robert Black, who was jailed for life for killing four children in the 1980s, has died in prison.

Serial child killer Black, 68, originally of Grangemout h, in the Forth Valley, abducted and abused young girls from across the UK before murdering them and was serving 12 life sentences for his crimes.

The former delivery driver died of natural causes in Maghaberry prison in Northern Ireland.

Serial killer Robert Black, 68, of Grangemouth, Falkirk, who abducted and abused young girls from across the UK before murdering them, has died of natural causes in Maghaberry prison

In 1994 he was found guilty of three child murders carried out in the 1980s - those of 11-year-old Susan Maxwell, from the Scottish Borders, five-year-old Caroline Hogg, from Edinburgh, and Sarah Harper, 10, from Morley, near Leeds.

In 2013 he was convicted of the murder of nine-year-old Jennifer Cardy from Northern Ireland, who was snatched as she cycled to a friend's house in Ballinderry, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, in 1981.

Only UK Moors Murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley – whose five victims were aged between ten and 17 – killed more children in modern British criminal history.

Dunblane killer Thomas Hamilton killed 16 but he is not considered a serial killer as his massacre happened in one brutal day.

Victims: Susan Maxwell (pictured top) was 11 when she was killed by Black, Jennifer Cardy, was nine

In June 2014 police launched a new bid to charge Black with the murder of 13-year-old schoolgirl Genette Tate who disappeared 36 years ago.
Devon and Cornwall Police have long suspected Black of murdering Genette, who was last seen in a rural lane in Aylesbeare, Devon, in 1978.

No trace of the newspaper delivery girl has ever been found. All that remained at the scene were her bike and scattered papers.

His reign of terror finally ended in 1990 when he was caught red-handed with a six-year-girl hooded, bound, gagged and stuffed in a sleeping bag in the back of his van in the Scottish village of Stow.
He had sexually assaulted her moments earlier.

Eventually he was linked to as many as 40 different cases which were examined by police in the 1990s, and 12 further killings are understood to remain potentially linked to Black.

Other murders linked to Black include:
  • April Fabb, aged 13, killed in Norfolk in 1969
  • Christine Markham, six, S****horpe, Lincolnshire, 1973
  • Mary Boyle, seven, from Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, 1977. Her body has never been found
  • Susanne Lawrence, 14, Essex, 1979
  • Pamela Hastie, 16, Johnstone, Scotland, 1981
  • Patsy Morris, 14, Feltham, west London, 1990

In addition detectives in France are examining links between Black and the killings of four schoolgirls who were abducted near Paris in 1987, and a seven-year-old in Amsterdam in 1986.

Today, a NI Prison Service spokeswoman said: 'The Prison Service has confirmed that a 68-year-old prisoner has died at Maghaberry Prison.
'While this is not being treated as suspicious, the Prison Service has informed the PSNI, Coroner, and Prisoner Ombudsman. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.'

SORDID CHILD KILLER ROBERT BLACK TAKES SECRETS TO THE GRAVE

Robert Black, one of the UK's most notorious serial killers, has gone to the grave carrying many untold secrets from his murderous past.

Convicted of four child murders and range of other sex crimes, the delivery driver who stalked the roads of Britain and Ireland for his young victims has long been suspected of involvement in other unsolved disappearances.

He was born in 1947 near Falkirk in Scotland to single mother Jesse Hunter Black. The factory worker put her son up to be fostered within weeks.

The couple that took him in - the Tulips - were in their 50s and lived in Kinlochleven in the West Highlands.

Within 11 years both had died, and Black was placed in a children's home back in Falkirk.

Black was questioned by police about the disappearance of 13-year-old newspaper delivery girl Genette Tate

He claimed his desire to self-abuse and his fascination with young girls had already developed well before then.

In Falkirk his proclivity for sexual violence emerged when, as a 12-year-old, he was accused of trying to rape a young girl. No charges came of it, but Black was moved to an all-boys' home in Musselburgh as a result.

In that institution he claimed he was the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of a male staff member.
When in Musselburgh he would walk the short distance to Portobello to swim and work as a lifeguard at the coastal resort's swimming pools.

Twenty years later one of his victims, Caroline Hogg, would disappear close to those same pools.

When he turned 15, Black left the home in Musselburgh and moved west again, to Greenock, outside Glasgow.

A year later, in 1963, he faced the courts for the first time after molesting a seven-year-old girl in an abandoned air raid shelter.
He had lured her from a swing park with the promise of showing her a box of kittens. Instead he choked her to within an inch of her life and then violated her. He left her in the darkness, lying unconscious.

Yet he was not incarcerated for the crime, receiving only a caution for lewd and libidinous behaviour.

Black relocated back to Falkirk where he started dating his one and only girlfriend. They stayed together for a while and Black even asked her to marry him. She said no, and the relationship ended acrimoniously.

He harboured immense bitterness over the rejection from then on.

Black, pictured in 2010, after being found guilty of the murder of schoolgirl Jennifer Cardy at Armagh Court

Three years after attacking the girl in Greenock, and now working as a builder back in Kinlochleven, he was not so lucky with authorities after being reported for abusing the daughter of a couple he was lodging with.

In 1967 he was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault and sent to borstal in Polmont, outside Falkirk, for a year.

Black moved to London on his release and soon became immersed in the sordid world of under-the-counter child pornography.

Again he found work as a swimming pool attendant, where he could earn money while spying on young girls in their costumes.

Swimsuits were one of the paedophile's particular fetishes and behind the locked door of his rented room in north London he would squeeze himself into young girls' costumes and act out sordid sex acts.

A one-piece suit found in his van when he was finally captured in Stow in 1990 was sized to fit ages eight to 10.

In the 1970s, his lust for hard-core child porn took him on shopping trips to Copenhagen and then to Amsterdam.

The court heard he snatched nine-year-old Jennifer Cardy (pictured) as she cycled to a friend's house

Around this time he also obtained his driving licence, enabling him to secure a job with a London-based delivery firm in 1976.

In retrospect, this job turned out to be his means to facilitate his murderous reign. Delivering posters throughout the UK for more than a decade, he was able to roam the country as an anonymous van driver.

The back of his van became a lair where he would abuse himself and his victims with a vile stash of crudely-fashioned instruments.

A delivery run took him past Coldstream in 1982 when he snatched Susan Maxwell, then back to Portobello a year later when he stole Caroline Hogg from the promenade, and through Leeds in 1986 when he abducted Sarah Harper.

Robert Black would probably never have set foot in Northern Ireland in August 1981 if he had not been sent there to deliver posters for the start of new beer and cigarette campaigns.

It was there, on a rural road in Co Antrim, he snatched nine-year-old Jennifer Cardy as she cycled to a friend's house.

After being caught red-handed in Stow, with a barely conscious victim hooded and gagged in the back of his Ford Transit, he insisted that was his only 'slip' - the only time he ever kidnapped a young girl in his van.

Of course, that was a lie. Four murder convictions followed.

Detectives across the country have spent the last 25 years trying to find firm evidence to link Black to other unexplained disappearances.

Police investigating the case of missing 13-year-old Genette Tate, who was last seen in a rural lane in Aylesbeare, Devon, in 1978, perhaps came closest to bringing another murder charge.

Black died in jail, but many families will feel he never faced full justice.

Oh Crap! MOVIE/PhOtOs>Grim Sleeper Serial Killer's 180 VICTIMS ?

Did the Grim Sleeper Kill 180 Victims? As Alleged Serial Killer’s Trial Begins, Mystery Surrounds His Massive Stash of Photographs Showing Women Asleep, Drugged and Even Dead

  • Lonnie Frankilin Jr has denied killing 10 females between 1985 and 2007
  • Most of the victims were dumped in alleys and garbage bins in LA
  • Some of them were found naked and covered with mattresses and trash
  • Officers now fear that the Grim Sleeper may have claimed 180 lives
Daily Mail UK, 18 February 2016

Sitting in the dock with a formal blue shirt and a pair of reading glasses, Lonnie Franklin Jr watches the big screen as the faces of ten women are shown to the jury.

The 63-year-old former police mechanic from Los Angeles is accused of killing the women over a period between 1985 and 2007, having taken a break between 1988 and 2002. The gap between the murders earned him the moniker 'Grim Sleeper'.

Franklin denies the murders. But when detectives raided his house they found a bizarre collection of more than 1,000 photographs and several hundred hours of video. Police believe as many as 180 of those women have been killed by the Grim Sleeper.

Scroll down for video

Lonnie Franklin Jr, 63, pictured yesterday on the first day of his trial for the murder of ten women, listened as prosecutors claimed he was the notorious 'Grim Sleeper' killer who stalked South Los Angeles for 22 years

Prosecutor Beth Silverman, pictured, showed the jury photographs of ten women she believes were murdered by Franklin between 1985 and 2007 on the opening day of the trial which is expected to last for four months

Porter Alexander, pictured holding a photograph of his daughter Alicia, who is one of Franklin's alleged victims. Mr Alexander was forced to leave the courtroom when an image of his daughter naked was shown to the jury

Franklin denies killing the women whose bodies were all found within a five mile radius of his house

Over the next four months, prosecutors will attempt to link Franklin to the first ten killings. The youngest victim was just 15. At the same time, detectives will interrogate cold case files to try and link Franklin to other unsolved cases, some of which date from the 1970s.

The bodies of all ten women were found within five miles of Franklin's home in South Los Angeles.

Prosecutor Beth Sliverman set the scene. Many of the young women had been shot. Most had been subjected to some form of sexual assault. Their bodies were dumped in alleys, stuffed into garbage bins while some were covered with a mattress.

One, Janecia Peters, was found by a homeless man who was collecting cans. Her body was discovered on New Year's Day, 2007, hidden under Christmas tree, approximately five miles south of Franklin's home.
The 25-year-old victim had been shot in the back, but police at the time could not identify her. Her family were unaware of her murder until after Franklin's arrest.

Officers discovered a bizarre collection of images in his house. They released 180 pictures to the public to see if they could identify anybody. At least one of those pictured was an unidentified murder victim. Peters was 191 on the list.

She is the final victim on the charge sheet, but police and prosecutors believe there are others.

Franklin insists he has not killed anyone.

Franklin was arrested after detectives ran DNA from the crime scenes against a database seeking a partial match with any of the suspect's relatives when they identified Franklin's son Christopher

Prosecutors projected images for the jury of the ten women who they claim were murdered by Franklin

Franklin, according to prosecutors, was invisible, able to blend in perfectly amid the chaos of a city which was blighted by crack cocaine.

For the families, the graphic details were too much. Photographs of each victim were shown to the court. Groups of family members wept openly. Some had to leave the court.

After 30 years, Franklin appeared in court, almost six years since his arrest in 2010.

Prosecutors claim that all the victims, bar one, had cocaine in their system.

The families claim that the LAPD was not interested in investigating the deaths of young black women, some of whom had turned to prostitution to pay for their addiction.

In the Grim Sleeper's South Los Angeles of the mid 1980s, crack cocaine spread through the community destroying lives. The victims came mostly from poor backgrounds and had a multitude of problems.

Police are undecided over the Grim Sleeper's true record of death. One victim survived an attack in 1988 which some believe scared the killer into taking a break until 2002 when the urge to murder became too strong.

Others say a serial killer will not take a break and there are more victims out there. Women who had disappeared and their bodies never found.

The woman who survived despite being raped and shot told detectives her attacker was a black man in his 20s and between 5'8 and 5'10 tall weighing about 160 pounds.
She described him as 'soft-spoken and articulate'. She said his hair was trimmed and he had a 'pockmarked face'.

One team of detectives has been going through cold case files going back to the 1970s to see if any of the unsolved cases match the Grim Sleeper's profile.

Officers raiding Franklin's house after his arrest found pictures of more than 1,000 women and videos

The LAPD has released copies of the photographs in the hope that friends or family can identify the women

It is feared that many of the women on the list may have been murdered by the Grim Sleeper

Silverman stood before the jury to open the case against Franklin. She spoke about the crack cocaine problem which swept the city and accused Franklin of targeting the women 'willing to sell their bodies and their souls in order to gratify their dependency on this powerful drug'.

She said: 'This was the perfect opportunity for someone who preyed on women.
'Someone who knew the streets and the dark alleys by heart, someone who lived there and was able to blend in, someone who knew where the drug-addicted women and perhaps prostitutes would congregate and who knew how to lure potential victims into the darkness and the isolation of a vehicle through the promise of crack.'

Against this, Franklin's attorney Seymour Amster will attempt to spread doubt among the jury, to convince them that the LAPD have got the wrong man.

Speaking shortly before the trial, Amster said: 'There more to it than people want to believe.'

Soon he will get the opportunity to address the jury with his own opening statement.

The photographs were recovered by detectives who raided Franklin's South Los Angeles home, pictured

Yet Silverman tantalised the jury about the forensic evidence that had been gathered. Ballistics reports which link the killings to various firearms. DNA which matched Franklin.

Two of the photographs shown to the jury came from Franklin's home. The images featured two of the Grim Sleeper's victims, one of whom had been photographs after being shot in the chest.

Despite the abundance of evidence referred to by Silverman, police made very little progress in the case for the first couple of decades.
As many as 30 detectives investigated the case in the 1980s, but potential leads turned into dead ends.

Families erected memorials to the women outside a church on the 25th anniversary of the first murder

When Janecia Peters was found in June 2007, a special squad of detectives was assembled, tasked with capturing the Grim Sleeper. The 25-year-old's naked body had been dumped in a trash bag. She was laying in a foetal position. She had been shot.

It took a further three years for officers to arrest Franklin, even though he had a prior criminal record. His DNA profile should have been on file, yet it had been discarded by mistake.

Police decided to try and match the DNA found at the various crime scenes to see if they could identify a family member, to narrow down the search.

Franklin's son Christopher had been found guilty of a weapons charge. As part of the process his DNA had been entered onto a database. When officers ran the mystery DNA though the database, they found a partial match with Christopher Franklin.

Police then launched an elaborate sting to secure his father's DNA.
One undercover officer, posing as a waiter in a pizza restaurant served Franklin. As soon as the suspected finished his food, the officer bagged the remaining pizza crusts, dishes and utensils.
The unorthodox technique provided a match. The legality of this approach is bound to be tested by the defence.

Janecia Peters was 119 on the list released by the LAPD following Franklin's arrest. Her body was found dumped under a Christmas tree in 2007

Speaking at the time of Franklin's arrest, police chief Charlie Beck released a montage of 180 woman whose photographs had been found inside the suspect's house.

He told a press conference: 'These people are not suspects. We don't even know if they're victims.
'But we do now the reign of terror in Los Angeles, which spanned well over two decades culminating in almost a dozen murder victims certainly needs to be investigated further.'

One family recognised the photograph of their relative among those which had been found in Franklin's house.

Number 119 on the list, Janecia Peters was given a name.

Her body was found dumped under a Christmas tree on January 1, 2007 by a homeless man who was collecting cans. She had been shot and covered with a garbage bag.
At the time of her murder, she was listed as unidentified.

Yet, relatives of the victims have been frustrated by the length of time it has taken to bring the case to court.

Porter Alexander was 48 when his 18-year-old daughter was murdered. Now he is 75, yet the emotion is still raw.
'The day of reckoning is here. You can't help but be excited that you lived to see an end to this madness. It's been a long road, and I'm glad I'll physically be able to be there.'

Investigators recovered boxes of evidence from Franklin's South Los Angeles home after his arrest in 2010

In July, 2010, a billboard showing that the suspect known as the Grim Sleeper had been arrested stands near a freeway in Compton, California, 25 years after the killing frenzy began

When photos of his daughter's naked body were shown in court Tuesday, Alexander walked out as other family members comforted his weeping wife.

Neighbours said Franklin often boasted about visiting prostitutes and bringing them back to his home.

Sherwood Howard said Franklin would show off nude photos he took of the women from the neck down and talk about his exploits and kept the pictures in the garage.

'He'd go and mess with women all night long,' Howard said.
'We knew he was kind of weird, but he was a regular person.'

The Grim Sleeper was among at least three serial killers who stalked Los Angeles-area women during a crack cocaine epidemic in the 1980s and 1990s.

The attacks were dubbed the 'Southside Slayer' killings before authorities concluded more than one attacker was involved.
Chester Turner has been convicted of killing 14 women, including one who was pregnant, and was sentenced to death in 2007. Michael Hughes was sentenced to death in 2012 for strangling a 15-year-old girl and two women. He previously got life for four killings.

Breaking News PhOtOs-Saw-Through Serial Killer That Copied Hannibal

Seattle Mother 'Was Dismembered With a 15-inch Pruning Saw in Her own Bathroom':
Horrifying Details of Woman's Murder Emerge as Her 'Date' Claims He Was So Drunk He Doesn't Remember What Happened

  • Ingrid Lyne, 40, was last seen heading to Seattle Mariners game on Friday
  • She was meeting a man she met online and had been dating for a month
  • Her head, arm and leg were wrapped in translucent trash bags and dumped 2.7miles away from Safeco Stadium
  • Investigators found a 15-inch pruning saw in the bathroom of her Renton, Washington home, with blood and bits of flesh down the bathtub drain
  • John Charlton, suspected of second-degree murder, was arrested Monday
  • Charlton has criminal history in six states; served time in Utah, Montana
  • His own parents filed for a restraining order against Charlton in 2006, saying they feared for their safety after his drunken outbursts
  • He once threatened his mother by telling her to watch the 2001 film Hannibal, where the title character is a cannibalistic serial killer
  • Charlton was posting to Facebook after Lyne was reported missing

Detectives investigating the gruesome murder of 40-year-old mother Ingrid Lyne (center), found a 15-inch pruning saw, bits of flesh, and blood in the bathroom of her Renton, Washington, home (left), court documents reveal. She was reported missing Saturday morning after she told friends she was meeting John Charlton (inset left) at the Seattle Mariner's opening game the night before. Her head, arm and leg were later found in a recycling bin about 2.7miles away from Safeco Stadium. The two met online and had dated for about a month, court documents reveal. Charlton, who was arrested on Monday, made a preliminary appearance at the Kings County Jail Courtroom today (bottom right), but a judge ordered that his face not be pictured. The 37-year-old, who is suspected of second-degree murder, has a long criminal history. Investigators are enlisting the help of the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to look into similar crimes in the region, a source said.

Her body parts were packaged in translucent trash bags and dumped about 2.7miles away from Safeco Stadium. Lyne was likely killed in Renton and then driven to Seattle, King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Jennifer Worley said

Court documents revealed a 15-inch pruning saw was found near the bathtub of Lyne's home, and blood and bits of flesh were recovered from the tub's drain

Charlton, 37, pictured in Montana after he was arrested for theft, was taken into custody on Monday. His own parents filed a petition for a restraining order against him in 2006

JoAnn and Ray Charlton (pictured) filed for a temporary protection order against their son in 2006, but it was later dismissed at their request

During a search of her house, detectives found the pruning saw near the bathtub, which relatives confirmed was not typically there.

Bits of human flesh and blood were recovered from the tub's drain, King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Jennifer Worley said Tuesday.

An anonymous source told the Seattle Times 'significant' physical evidence had been found in her home.

They also found plastic trash bags 'identical in color and size' to the ones Lyne's body parts were found in.

Charlton appeared at the Kings County Jail Courtroom today, and is suspected of second-degree murder. He is held on $2million bail.

Court records show Ray and JoAnn Charlton filed for a temporary protection order in 2006, saying their son tried to provoke a fight with them when he was drunk and verbally abusive.

The petition was later dismissed at the parents' request, but Ray said: 'During this time frame, he removed a movie from the shelf called Hannibal, set it in front of my wife and told her she should watch this and "beware".'

He also told them 'life was putting too much pressure on him' and that he felt he was becoming mentally unstable, KIRO7 reported.

Charlton has a criminal history in six states, court documents reveal.

He was convicted of a 2009 felony theft in Montana, negligent driving in Washington state in 1998, and a second-degree felony for aggravated robbery in Utah in 2006.

He has also been convicted of grand theft motor vehicle, assault, third-degree larceny, with an arrest for battery.

He was found guilty of possession of marijuana in 1997, but the charge was deferred, the Seattle Times reports.

Lyne, 40, was last seen leaving to attend the Seattle Mariners opening game on Friday, where she was planning to meet Charlton on a date, her friends said.

A source claimed it was not their first date, and Charlton told officials the two had been seeing each other for about a month, according to the Certification for Determination of Probable Cause.

Charlton had at least two profiles on the dating websites Plenty of Fish and Mingle2.com. It is unclear how the two met online, although KIRO7 reported someone sent in a POF dating profile that appeared to be Lyne's.

Lyne's ex-husband Phillip Lyne, whom she divorced in 2014, reported her missing around 10:10am Saturday morning, when he tried dropping off their three daughters, aged 7, 10, and 12, and found the house empty.

Her remains were still 'fresh' when they were recovered Saturday afternoon in a neighborhood about 2.7miles away from Safeco Stadium, an officer said.
The homeowner had been away for three days. He returned on Saturday and noticed the weight of the recycling bins, which should have been emptied while he was gone, according to court documents.
He emptied the contents on his lawn, revealing translucent trash bags containing Lyne's head, an arm with a hand attached, and a lower leg and foot. The homeowner called 911.

A 15-inch pruning saw (file photo) was found in Lyne's bathroom. Relatives said it was not usually there

Court documents state Lyne's remains were found with no signs of decomposition.
Her facial features were intact, and police identified her after they learned of the missings person report and obtained her photograph.
Official confirmation of her identity is pending an autopsy.

When Charlton was taken into custody and questioned, detectives noticed there were minor injuries to his face, chest, and left hand.
The 37-year old said the two had gone to the Mariner's game.

He was so intoxicated he could not recall how they got back to her house and what happened afterwards, according to court documents.
He told authorities they returned to her house in her car, and had sex. He said Lyne was acting 'weird', but did not elaborate, according to the documents.

He was unsure how he left her house, but claims he slept on the sidewalks of Seattle.
He then told authorities he spent Saturday and Sunday night at an ex-girlfriend's house in Lake Stevens about one hour north of Lyne's home, documents state.

Investigators believe Lyne was killed in Renton and then driven to Seattle, where her remains were dumped, King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Jennifer Worley said Tuesday during Charlton's bail hearing.
When Lyne's ex-husband didn't find her at her house, he notified her mother Jorga Bass, who entered the residence with a spare key and found Lyne's personal items still inside.

Worried friends had circulated photographs of both Lyne and Charlton on Facebook in hopes of tracking them down.

The remainder of Lyne's body has not been found, but the FBI and other law-enforcement agencies are looking into any other, similar crimes in the region, a source told the Seattle Times

When Charlton was taken into custody and questioned, he said he was too intoxicated after the Mariner's game to remember how they got back to her house and what 'transpired when they got there', court documents state

He also claimed he slept on the sidewalks of Seattle and told investigators he spent Saturday and Sunday night at an ex-girlfriend's house

Authorities believe Charlton was the man who Lyne was meeting on a date, and no other suspects are being pursued

Lyne's friends grew suspicious of Charlton when he couldn't be reached, even though he made a bizarre posting on Facebook Saturday morning, saying he had started going to school at 'All OF Them'. The post was made after Lyne was reported missing but before her remains were found.

Bass, who shares a Verizon account with her daughter, checked her phone records and saw a recurring number, which another family member then linked to Charlton by searching the web.

Bass texted the number, addressed Charlton by name, asked when he last saw her and said she had called 911.

The 37-year-old responded: '911? What's going on? We went to the Mariners game last night but we didn't stay the night together because she has her kids today...not sure what she has told you about me and our relationship.'

When Bass told him a police officer was looking to speak to him, he ceased to respond.

When the murder suspect was taken into custody and questioned, he said the two had returned to her home in her car after the Mariner's game on Friday, court documents reveal. He said he had spent the night at her house several times before.

Worried friends had circulated photographs of both Lyne and Charlton on Facebook in hopes of tracking them down. Police found her purse and cellphone at home

Her ex-husband reported her missing Saturday morning when she wasn't home when he tried to drop off their three daughters, aged 7, 10, and 12

Charlton (pictured) used his Facebook on Saturday at 10.21am after the 40-year-old was already reported missing. Evidence such as telephone call records led detectives to arrest Charlton at a home in Lake Stevens, Washington

Seattle Police Assistant Chief Robert Merner said they were 'led to a suspect early on' in the investigation. Authorities do not believe there are additional suspects.

Her silver 2015 Toyota Highlander, with the plate number AUW3230, was also initially reported stolen and was later found in downtown Seattle.

The investigation is ongoing, and Charlton has not been charged. His is currently held with bail set at $2million.

Lyne's friends were emotional on Monday when they learned news that her remains had been found.

'It's just wrong; it was just so wrong,' longtime friend Nicole Rock said

'Why did he do this? And why did he put her in pieces? Rock asked. 'To think about their kids, and they need their mom. Kids, they need a mom.'

Neighbor Edward Franceschina, 74, says he last saw Lyne on Friday afternoon, checking her mail. Neighbors say she has been living on the block for the past 13 years.

He said police detectives searched her house around 12.30am Sunday, and spoke to a resident down the street with a security camera.

It is unclear which dating site Lyne was using when she met Charlton, although he had accounts on Plenty of Fish and Mingle2.com.

Lyne's three children are currently staying with their father, and a GoFundMe page set up for daughters has already raised more than $64,000 with the help of more than 1,300 people.

Lyne's family members have released a statement remembering her as a 'beloved mother, daughter, sister and friend,' Q13 reported.

They also included an update on her three daughters, stating: 'While devastated, they have been amazingly resilient and we couldn’t be more proud of how they have handled what will be the worst news of their young lives.'

United States of America PhOtOts-'Grim Sleeper' Serial Killer Sentenced To Death

Jury Returns Death Sentence for 'Grim Sleeper' Serial Killer

Daily Mail UK, 6 June 2016. / LOS ANGELES (AP)

A serial killer known as the "Grim Sleeper" should be sentenced to death for murdering nine women and a teenage girl over more than two decades in South Los Angeles, a jury decided Monday.

Lonnie Franklin Jr. stared straight ahead and showed no emotion as a court clerk read 10 death penalty verdicts.

Family members of the victims cried as the verdicts were read. One rocked back and forth, while another whispered to himself, "Thank you."

"We got what we came to get, a just verdict," said Porter Alexander, the father of 18-year-old victim Alicia Alexander. "I'm glad I lived to see it. It's a long time coming."

The 63-year-old Franklin, a former city trash collector and garage attendant for Los Angeles police, was convicted of 10 counts of first-degree murder last month for crimes dating back more than 30 years.

A prosecutor had asked jurors to show Franklin the same compassion he showed his victims and give him the "ultimate penalty."

An emotional defense lawyer asked jurors to sentence him to life without parole to hasten the healing process for the victims' family members.

Franklin's only words during the proceeding Monday were, "Yes, your honor." As he walked into court, family members of the victims whispered, "Dead man walking."

Samara Herard, 45, the foster sister of the youngest victim, 15-year-old Princess Berthomieux, said the verdict was bittersweet.

"This closes out a chapter and you have to go on ... but I'll never get my sister back," Herard said. "She'll never get a chance to grow up. She'll never go to college, she'll never be married ... At 15 years old it was stripped from her."

The judge set formal sentencing for Aug. 10. 2015.

During the trial, defense lawyers questioned forensic evidence and said DNA from other men was also found on several bodies.
They suggested a "mystery man," possibly a relative of Franklin's, was the real killer.

On Monday, Franklin's defense attorney slammed the amount of money prosecutors spent on the case and the costs associated with the death penalty.

"Now what happens is millions of dollars will be spent on appeals because we have no choice but to do that," lawyer Seymour Amster said, adding that money would be better spent in the neighborhood where the killings happened.
He declined to speak about Franklin, saying the concentration should be on healing society.

Franklin is unlikely to be executed. Nearly 750 convicted killers sit on California's death row, the largest in the nation.
But because of legal challenges, no one has been executed in over a decade and only 13 have been put to death since 1978. Far more have died of natural causes or suicide.

Most of Franklin's slayings fit a similar pattern. Women were either fatally shot, choked — or both — their bodies dumped in alleys and trash bins.

Police didn't connect the crimes to a serial killer for years, and victims' families and community residents complained the killings weren't thoroughly investigated because the victims were poor and black, and some were prostitutes who had been using cocaine.

Franklin came under suspicion after a task force began re-examining the cold cases following the final killing in 2007 and DNA from his son showed similarities to genetic evidence found on some of the victims.

A detective posing as a busboy at a pizza parlor later collected utensils and crusts from Franklin while he was attending a birthday party. Lab results connected him to the bodies.

The culprit had been dubbed the "Grim Sleeper" because of an apparent gap in slayings between 1988 and 2002.

Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman was able to introduce evidence of four additional slayings during the penalty phase, including one that linked Franklin to a killing in 2000. She also presented evidence of a 1984 slaying — a year before the first murder he was convicted of.
Prosecutors said they didn't charge Franklin with the additional killings because it would have delayed the case that took nearly six years to bring to trial.

The survivor who Franklin was convicted of attempting to murder helped prosecutors establish the killer's modus operandi.

Enietra Washington described getting a lift from Franklin in his orange Ford Pinto and then having him shoot her in the chest while she sat in the passenger seat.
As she was losing consciousness, he sexually assaulted her and she remembered seeing the flash from a Polaroid camera.

A photo of a bleeding and partly nude Washington was later found hidden behind a wall in Franklin's garage. Police found photos of other victims in the home.

Nearly 30 years after Washington was left for dead on the side of a road, she pointed at Franklin in court and said: "That's the person who shot me."

South Carolina Serial Killer

> How Many Has He Killed? Police Find a SECOND Body on South Carolina 'Serial Killer's' 95-acre Farm as Search for More Expands to Properties Across the US

  • Investigators have found a second body on Todd Kohlhepp's farmland
  • Haven't identified the remains unearthed in Woodruff, South Carolina
  • Another body found on the land has been identified as Charlie Carver's
  • Kohlhepp is accused of kidnapping Carver's girlfriend Kala Brown
  • Also confessed to a 2003 quadruple murder that had remained unsolved
  • Currently faces four counts of murder and a single charge of kidnapping
Daily Mail UK, 7 November 2016

Police have unearthed a second body from the farmland of alleged serial killer Todd Kohlhepp.

The grim discovery was made Sunday, one day after the kidnap and murder suspect led officers to the spots where he said two victims were buried.
The hunt was going on tonight for other bodies. One has been identified as Charlie Carver's whose girlfriend Kala Brown is thought to have been held captive in a container by Kohlhepp for two months.

County sheriff Chuck Wright said of the second body:

'We can't tell anything about the cause of death, gender or how long or any of that stuff.'

Authorities have worked tirelessly to search Kohlhepp's land and have now extended their search to other properties connected to him. They are pictured digging in Woodruff

County sheriff Chuck Wright (pictured talking to reporters Sunday) said of the second body: 'We can't tell anything about the cause of death, gender or how long or any of that stuff'

Authorities have expanded their search beyond Kohlhepp's 100-acre farmland. Pictured, Wright and Coroner Rusty Clevenger hold a news conference in front of the property Sunday

The body is thought to be one of the two Kohlhepp mentioned when investigators took him back to his property Saturday.

Authorities were in the process of recovering the remains on Sunday evening.

Detectives have expanded their search perimeter beyond Kohlhepp's 100-acre farmland in Woodruff and are now looking at other properties linked to him.

The search extends beyond South Carolina, Wright said, although he declined to say where investigators were looking.

Homeland Security and the FBI have gotten involved in the search.
Experts meticulously dug into the ground to recover the second body while preserving as much evidence as possible, Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said.

Kohlhepp has already been charged with four gun murders dating back to 2003 and Kidnapping Brown. He might be connected to seven deaths in total, according to Wright.

Scott Ponder, his mother Beverly Guy, service manager Brian Lucas, and mechanic Chris Sherbert were found fatally shot at the Superbike Motorsports in Chesnee, South Carolina, on November 6, 2003.
The case stunned the community and baffled police for more than a decade.

Rumors swirled that the slaying was committed by a Mexican drug gang or the victims were part of a love triangle, crushing the victims' loved ones.

Now, on the 13th anniversary of the murders, the families say Todd Kohlhepp's arrest will bring them some peace.

Kohlhepp is charged with four counts of murder in the shooting deaths and the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said that he has confessed to the killings.

Terry Guy, whose wife and stepson were among those killed, spoke with reporters outside Spartanburg County jail on his way to Kohlhepp's bond hearing on Sunday.

Guy said Kohlhepp's arrest means his relatives and the families of others killed can now finally be at peace.
'I'm just so relieved,' he said.

Tom and Lorraine Lucas lost their son, Brian, who was the service manager gunned down at the store.
Standing with his wife outside the Spartanburg County Detention Center, Tom Lucas said he wants to be in court to look the man accused of killing his son in the eye.

CONVICTED RAPIST TODD KHOLHEPP'S RECORD SO FAR

Kohlhepp served 14 years in jail for raping a 14-year-old girl at gunpoint in 1986, when he was 15.

A sentencing report, obtained by WFXG, claims Kohlhepp lured the girl outside by telling her an ex-boyfriend wanted to talk to her.
When the two were outside, he then pointed a 'small blue steel handgun at her head' and 'told her to walk down the alley towards his house.'

Once they got into Kohlhepp's bedroom, according to the documents, he duct taped her mouth, tied her hands together, and, 'removed her clothes, then his clothes and forced the victim to have sexual intercourse with him.'

Kohlhepp pleaded guilty to kidnapping in the case and was added to the sex offender registry in Arizona. He remained behind bars from 1987 to 2001.

Two years after his release, Kohlhepp murdered four people in Chesnee, South Carolina according to a confession he gave investigators Saturday.
Scott Ponder, his mother Beverly Guy, service manager Brian Lucas, and mechanic Chris Sherbert were found fatally shot at the Superbike Motorsports shop on November 6, 2003.

Kholhepp hasn't indicated a motive. He was charged with four counts of murder Sunday.

He is now accused of kidnapping 30-year-old Kala Brown and is believed to have kept her in a metal container on his farmland in Woodruff, South Carolina, for two months.
Brown was found chained up inside the container on Thursday.

The body of her boyfriend Charlie Carver, 32, was found on Kholhepp's property and identified on Saturday.

Authorities unearthed another body on the farmland Sunday and have yet to identify the remains.
The second body is believed to be one of two that Kehlhopp located when investigators brought him back to his Woodruff property on Saturday.

Service manager Brian Lucas and mechanic Chris Sherbert (top) also died in the 13-year-old quadruple murder

Doris Henry, Guy's sister and Ponder's aunt, is pictured being comforted by her husband while awaiting to hear about them in 2003. A deck of cards made by Lucas' father and passed out to inmates in South Carolina prisons

'We want to see the face. I want to look at him, and I want to try to use that in healing,' Tom Lucas said.

Lorraine Lucas said she started counseling sessions several weeks ago to prepare herself in case a suspect was ever arrested.
'I needed to be prepared for when they do make an arrest, so we can accept what happened,' she said.

Melissa Ponder said she was resigned that her husband Scott's death would never be solved before getting a phone call on Saturday evening from one of the case's original detectives.
Ponder says the detectives told family members of all four victims the news at the same time - that Kohlhepp confessed to the killings.

Judge Jimmy Henson speaks to the family members of the bike shop murder victims during a bond hearing for Todd Kohlhepp at the Spartanburg Detention Facility on Sunday

Todd Kohlhepp is addressed by Judge Jimmy Henson during a bond hearing on Sunday

'He knew too much about the crime scene,' Ponder said of Kohlhepp's account to detectives. 'He knew everything.'
She added: 'It isn't closure, but it is an answer - and I am thankful for that.'

Detectives told Ponder Kohlhepp was an angry customer who had been in the shop several times, she said.

All four victims were shot multiple times, authorities said at the time.

Before Kohlhepp emerged as a suspect, investigators said all four victims were killed with the same 9 mm pistol.
They theorized that the killer came in the back, perhaps through an open garage door, and killed mechanic Sherbert, 26, as he worked.

Bookkeeper Beverly Guy, 52, was found just outside the bathroom in the middle of the showroom.
Thirty-year-old shop owner Scott Ponder was found just outside the door in the parking lot. Brian Lucas, 29, was in the doorway.

At the time, the suspect was described on 'wanted' posters as a white male, aged between 25 and 40, with dark brown feathered hair, approximately six feet tall and weighing between 175 and 200 pounds.

The case was Spartanburg County's first quadruple homicide.

Kohlhepp hasn't revealed a motive in the killings and declined to speak when Magistrate Judge Jimmy Henson offered him the chance to make a statement at his bond hearing on Sunday.
The victims' families were there as Henson denied bond for Kohlhepp.

After Kohlhepp left the courtroom, Henson addressed the victims' families, saying:

'What you've gone through ... is beyond what a lot of people would understand.'

Kohlhepp, who was added to the sex offender registry in Arizona after being convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl, is also charged with kidnapping a woman and keeping her chained on his property.

Kala Brown's rescue on Thursday led to the break in the 13-year-old cold case.

Daily Mail UK, 7 November 2016

Police have released chilling surveillance footage that shows Craigslist killer Brady Oestrike setting up a torture dungeon where he kept an 18-year-old girl chained for five days before killing her.

Investigators in Wyoming, Michigan, also unveiled more than 100 gruesome photos from inside 31-year-old Oestrike's gun-littered house of horrors on Wednesday and confirmed that video of Brooke Slocum's assault, torment and death also exists.

On July 12 of 2014, Brady Oestrike kidnapped Slocum - who was eight-months pregnant - after agreeing on Craigslist to meet her and her boyfriend, Charles Oppenneer, 25, for sex.
Oppenneer and Slocum were selling sex for cash and placed an ad.

He then decapitated Oppenneer in the park, handcuffed Slocum and took her back to his home in the early hours of July 13 where he kept her in a dog kennel and sadistically abused her.

Chilling surveillance footage of a Craigslist murderer, Brady Oestrike (pictured), shows him setting up a cage where he tortured Brooke Slocum. He kidnapped her on July 12 and surveillance cameras recorded him sadistically torturing her for five days and then killing her on July 17

Slocum - who was eight months pregnant - was repeatedly assaulted, tortured and forced to smoke marijuana over five days. Oestrike turned off the cameras about 1 p.m. on July 17

Wyoming Police Chief James Carmody

Wyoming Police Chief James Carmody revealed that Oestrike, who he described as a gun fetishist, had hoarded whips, swords and bondage tools inside his home.

Police recovered a 'sex slave contract,' stuffed toys tied with handcuffs and blood-covered panties.

The contract was written by hand and involved sickening clauses such as 'I must obey my master' and 'pleasure, I must earn it'.

They also found dozens of restraints, ropes, sex toys and cattle prods strewn across his dilapidated home.
In addition they found a medieval mask and chainmail gloves, medical gloves and syringes

And in a another disturbing twist, officers who collected evidence from Oestrike's home found a child's sippy cup, a baby doll with a noose and suitcases filled with women's clothing.

They found no evidence that he had children or any inside the property.

Police also called in the FBI when they discovered a map of the US hung on Oestrike's wall - covered from coast to coast in push pins.

Authorities panicked and thought they were dealing with a serial killer, but a former girlfriend told them that the pins represented places where he had stored food in case of the apocalypse.

Charles Oppenneer was found decapitated in Gezon Park. His head was never found. Brooke Slocum found strangled after undergoing at least five days of torture. In one video she was shown with handcuffs on at 1am on with a chain around her neck

Slocum's roommate told police that the pair had been posting Craigslist ads for 'sex for cash' at the time. A conversation dated for July 12, 2014, between Slocum and a person identified as 'Hard Mike' was discovered by police and led them to Oestrike's (pictured) Facebook page

Surveillance footage from cameras Oestrike installed into his home show him cleaning a room before the murders. In this clip from a video, ropes can be seen hanging from the ceiling and lying on the floor

The disturbing video - which has audio - was recovered from four cameras that Oestrike had set up across his home.

The first dated surveillance footage that police released show him cleaning a room in May 2014, in apparent preparation for a murder and abduction.

It shows the same dog kennel cage that Slocum was imprisoned in and the various chains and restraints that Oestrike used during her torture.
Video that police have said they will never release shows the depraved torture that Oestrike put Slocum through.

Another video released is timestamped 11 p.m. on July 12, 2014. This is one hour before he went to meet the Oppenneer and his pregnant girlfriend.

Slocum's arms were also attached to a pulley system suspended from the ceiling, one of the videos revealed. She was repeatedly assaulted, tortured and forced to smoke marijuana over several days

Disgusting: This is the dog kennel that Oestrike kept Slocum trapped inside for five days before killing her

Restraints: The home-made pulley system that Oestrike tied Slocum to is seen in this picture. Her arms were both attached to ropes that allowed him to pull them up and down like a puppet

Planning: The box the dog kennel training crate arrived in can be seen in the left of the picture

Suitcases: Police revealed that they found blood-stained women's underwear and other female undergarments in Oestrike's home

Slocum is first seen on Oestrikes depraved video being dragged into his Taft Avenue house with handcuffs on at 1am on July 13.

According to the police reports he wrapped a chain around her neck that had been bolted to the bathroom floor and forced her inside a dog cage.

Her arms were then attached to a pulley system suspended from the ceiling - which he could manipulate at will - controlling her like a puppet.
Slocum is then seen to be repeatedly assaulted and forced to smoke marijuana for several days, the documents show.

The video appears to show Oestrike convince Slocum that Oppenneer is still alive before he kills her.

Panic stations: Police in Wyoming, Michigan called in the FBI when they found this map dotted with pins from coast to coast. An ex-girlfriend told police that they were markers where he had dumped food in case of the apocalypse

SORDID CRAIGSLIST MEETUP THAT LED TO DOUBLE MURDER

Police revealed the Craigslist messages between Charles Oppenneer and Brooke Slocum and Brady Oestrike that led to their deaths.

On July 2, 2014, Brooke Slocum posted a desperate plea for money to Facebook, asking for help to pay bills.

Sex trafficked: Brooke Slocum's family claim she was forced into meeting Oestrike for sex because she had been forced into prostitution

The 18-year-old wrote on Craigslist:

'I need $50 by 330pm today. I can pay you back later tonight but I need gas and some mess (sic) quick! Everyone has bronchitis at my house and I do not want to get sick! I'm 8 months pregnant and my lungs are all squished as is... If you could help me and my daugher will greatly appreciate it!'

This went unanswered until Brady Oestrike replied under the user name 'Mike's Hard' to say that he could 'host' her and asked what she was thinking.

Only ten minutes later Slocum wrote back to Oestrike saying:

'Uhmmm well we are looking for donations if possible. kinda in a tight spot and we have a baby on the way. As far as the funn goes though there won't be any male on male action.'

In response to this, Oestrike said that he could pay $120 and offers to pick them up, which Slocum declines.

Perverted: Brady Oestrike chose Gezon park to meet kidnap and ultimately kill both Brooke Slocum and Charles Oppenneer and told them there was no police presence there during their Craigslist chats

Oestrike then suggests Gezon Park at 11.30pm - which also appears to unnerve Slocum:

'hmmm..I dunno..I don't wanna get in trouble for indecent exposure or anything... I can't go to jail being 8 months pregnant.'

In their last exchange before agreeing to meet at around midnight in the park, Oestrike tells her that 'It's a cop free park with lots of woods.'

The autopsy carried out on Slocum revealed that her cause of death was strangulation.

The footage is so stark that the Wyoming Police Chief James Carmody called the case 'one of the most brutal' he had ever seen.

Prepper: Brady Oestrike believed that the end of the world was coming and hoarded food and supplies across the country

'I think it was pure evil from start to finish,' he added, saying that officers who discovered the torture video had to go through counseling afterwards.

'It definitely had a profound effect on all of us,' he said. 'It's very disturbing. There's no way you can say that you get used to that stuff, because you don't.'
'We always try to find a reason for someone acting like this' he added. 'Sometimes there isn't one.'

Until police released the video on Wednesday it was not clear to the public how long Slocum had been held captive.

In one of the released videos, Oestrike is seen walking back-and-forth in a room containing the empty dog kennel.

As he moves things around, ropes can be seen hanging from the ceiling and lying on the floor.

Police apprehended Oestrike on July 17 after a high speed chase ended with him taking his own life by shooting himself following a crash.

The videos show Oestrike's home (pictured) where Slocum was held captive

Oestrike led police on a chase in a yellow car before killing himself after he crashed into a railing (pictured)

Slocum's body was found inside the trunk. She had been strangled and her baby did not survive

Oestrike worked as a lineman for a power company.

On July 13, 2014, police said they received a tip from a woman who reported that there was a man in a white mask looking into vehicles near the park where Oestrike had killed Oppenneer.

Around the same time, another person turned in Oppenneer's wallet that was found on a dirt road near the Gezon Park.

Authorities tried to contact Oppenneer after the vehicle was unmoved for two days.

Police then searched the area near the car on July 15 and smelled a 'faint odor of decomposition'.

The next day, authorities continued the search and found Oppenneer's decapitated body in the woods.
His head has still not been found.

Police then obtained search warrants for the couple's cell phones.

Slocum's roommate told police that the pair had been posting Craigslist ads for 'sex for cash' at the time, according to the recently released documents.

A conversation dated for July 12, 2014, between Slocum and a person identified as 'Hard Mike' was discovered by police.
They were planning to meet at Gezon Park for sex, the documents show.

The MOORS MURDERERS > TRUE STORY

Who is Ian Brady, What Were the Moors Murders, What Happened to Myra Hindley, Where is Brady Held and Will He Ever be Released?

Ian Brady, 79, has been in prison since 1966 when he was jailed for the murders of three children, years later he confessed to two more

TWISTED Moors Murderer Ian Brady – the longest serving prisoner in England and Wales – was jailed in 1966 after he was found guilty of killing children.

He committed his sick crimes with girlfriend Myra Hindley, dubbed the “most hated woman in Britain”, in a spree of murders spanning from 1963 to 1965 across the Greater Manchester area.

Ian Brady confessed to killing two more children almost 30 years ago

Myra Hindley, Brady’s twisted accomplice, died in prison, she was 61yrs old

Brady, 79, was serving three life sentences for the murders of John Kilbride, 12, Lesley Ann Downey, ten, and Edward Evans, 17, when he formally confessed to killing Pauline Reade and Keith Bennett while being held in Gartree Prison.

Assisted by Brady’s sadistic partner Myra Hindley, police searched Saddleworth Moor and discovered the body of 16-year-old Pauline, while Keith’s body has never been found.

We reveal all there is to know about the killer.

Who is Ian Brady?

Brady was born in Glasgow in 1938 and attended Shawlands Academy – a school for above-average pupils.

His violent personality was shaped by an unstable background. His mother neglected him and he was raised by foster parents in the Gorbals – Glasgow’s toughest slum.

After a spree of petty crime as a teenager the courts sent him to Manchester to live with his mum and her new husband, Patrick Brady.

Ian took his stepfather’s name, continued his criminal activities and developed into a teenage alcoholic.

He pursued new interests in a bid to “better himself” – building up a library of books on Nazi Germany, sadism and sexual perversion.

Brady first met Myra Hindley when she worked as a secretary at the same company in Manchester where he was working as a stores clerk.

It was love at first sight and Brady impressed her by reading Mein Kampf in the original German.

He has served more than 50 years in prison for his crimes.

Brady recently hinted a shotgun found near where he buried victim Keith Bennett was one of his secret arsenal.

Who Were The Victims?

As Brady and Hindley’s relationship became more twisted, between July 1963 and December 1964, 16-year-old Pauline Reade, 12-year-old John Kilbride and Keith Bennett, also 12, were reported missing, all in the Manchester area.

Another victim, 10-year-old Lesley Ann Downey, disappeared on 26 December 1964.

Police were baffled over the disappearances because there wasn’t a single shred of evidence.

Brady and Hindley at this point became intent on corrupting Myra’s brother-in-law, David Smith, and recruiting him into their twisted circle where Brady would talk about murder.

On 6 October 1965, the killer offered a practical demonstration with Edward Evans – striking him fourteen times with a hatchet before finishing the job by strangling him.

Horrified, Smith phoned the police next morning and directed them to Brady’s address. He said in his statement to cops: “He was lying with his head and shoulders on the couch and his legs were on the floor. He was facing upwards.

“Ian was standing over him, facing him, with his legs on either side of the young lad’s legs. The lad was still screaming … Ian had a hatchet in his hand … he was holding it above his head and he hit the lad on the left side of his head with the hatchet.

“I heard the blow, it was a terrible hard blow, it sounded horrible.”

How Was Brady Caught and Why Did His Crimes Become Known as the Moors Murders?

On October 7, 1965, Superintendent Bob Talbot of the Cheshire Police arrived at the back door of 16 Wardle Brook Avenue and told Hindley he wanted to speak with her boyfriend.

The couple allowed the police to look around but when they reached the spare bedroom where Edward’s body was, they found it locked.

Brady told Hindley to hand over the key and the police entered the room to find Edward’s corpse wrapped in plastic sheeting.

The bloody murder weapon was also recovered, along with Brady’s collection of books on perversion and sadism.

He admitted that he had fought with Edward after he was arrested on suspicion of murder but insisted Smith had helped him.

Four days later, another search of Brady’s flat turned up two left luggage tickets for Manchester Central Station, leading police to a pair of suitcases.

Inside one they found pictures of Lesley Ann Downey naked with a scarf tied around her mouth along with tape recordings of her final tortured moments, pleading for her life as she was brutally abused.

A series of snapshots showing random sections of Saddleworth Moor were also discovered and an exercise book with John Kilbride’s name scribbled in it led police to believe Brady and Hindley were involved in the unsolved disappearances.

A huge search operation involving 150 officers was launched and on October 16, they found an arm bone sticking out of the ground belonging to Lesley Ann.

They discovered the badly decomposed body of John Kilbride five days later.

Police announced that they were opening their files on eight missing persons, who had disappeared over the previous four years, but no new charges had been added by the time the couple went to trial.

What Happened at Ian Brady’s Trial?

On 6 May 1966, both defendants were convicted of killing Edward Evans and Lesley Ann Downey.
Brady was also convicted of murdering John Kilbride, while Myra Hindley was convicted as an accessory after the fact.

All-male jurors fell silent for 16 minutes as the tape recording of Lesley Ann Downey’s terrified last moments was played to the court.

The tape was played at full volume and the chilling sounds of children screaming echoed through the court before only the footsteps and soft voices in the background could be heard.

Harrowing passages could be heard including...

“Don’t undress me, will you?” and “I want to see mummy”.

The haunting sound of the 12-year-old’s throat being slit was also played to the court.

*** It took Jurors and Police Officers years to recover what they had heard on the tapes.....and the trial had to be stopped many times as jury members and police broke down in tears ***

In his closing remarks Mr Justice Atkinson described the murders as a “truly horrible case” and condemned the accused as “two sadistic killers of the utmost depravity”.
He stated that Brady was “wicked beyond belief”.

Brady was sentenced to concurrent life terms on each count, while Hindley received two life terms plus seven years in the Kilbride case.

When Did Brady Confess to the Other Two murders?

Nineteen years later, in November 1985, Brady was transferred from prison to maximum-security mental hospital Ashworth.

There, he confessed to the murders of Pauline Reade and Keith Bennett, whose remains had still not been found, in an interview with reporters.

Searchers comb Saddleworth Moor after Brady confessed to the two other murders

A search was carried out on the moors a year later, with Hindley joining officers in 1986 and Brady in 1987.

On June 30, 1987, after more than 100 days of searching, the body of Pauline Reade was found buried 3 feet below the ground.

It took pathologists a month to decide that the girl had been sexually assaulted and her throat slashed from behind.

Keith is the only one of their victims never to have been found despite tireless campaigning by his mum Winnie, who died in 2012.

How Did Brady Kill His Victims?

On July 12, 1963, Brady told Hindley he wanted to “commit his perfect murder”.

He told her to drive a van around the local area while he followed on his motorbike. After spotting Pauline, the couple stopped and Hindley asked her if she would help her locate an expensive glove she had lost on the Moor.

Pauline Reade was the first victim of Hindley and Brady Hindley claimed Brady then took Pauline on to the Moor, where he slashed her throat twice and sexually assaulted her. Brady claims that Hindley helped.

On November 23, 1963, Hindley approached John Kilbride in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancs, and offered him a lift home.

Brady told the 12-year-old he would give him some sherry, but they would have to make a detour on the Moor first.

John Kilbride was lured to the Moor by Hindley and Brady, who sexually assaulted him before strangling him

Keith Bennett’s body has never been found

He sexually assaulted the youngster and attempted to slit his throat with a six-inch serrated blade before fatally strangling him with a piece of string.

Keith Bennett was on his way to his grandmother’s house on June 16, 1964, when Hindley lured him into her van.

She drove to a lay-by on the Moor and Brady took the boy while Hindley kept watch. Brady reappeared 30 minutes later having sexually assaulted and strangled Keith.

In search of another victim, the couple visited a fairground on Boxing Day, 1964, and came across Lesley Ann Downey.

They approached the ten-year-old and lured her back to their house, where she was undressed, gagged and forced to pose for photographs before being raped and killed.

The following morning Brady and Hindley drove with Downey’s body to Saddleworth Moor, where she was buried, naked with her clothes at her feet, in a shallow grave.

On 6 October 1965 Brady met 17-year-old apprentice engineer Edward Evans at Manchester Central railway station and invited him to his home where Brady beat him to death with an axe.

Edward Evans was murdered by Brady and police found his body the next day

Where is Brady Now?

Brady is now Britain’s longest-serving offender and for the past 31 years has lived at secure Ashworth Mental Hospital, where he is on permanent suicide watch.

Moors Murderer Brady to stay in secure hospital He was declared criminally insane in 1985 and moved to the high-security hospital in Merseyside.

Brady has been on hunger strike since 1999 and is kept alive by being force-fed a liquid nutrition mix.

But he has claimed he used method acting to pretend to be psychotic claiming life in the mental hospital is cushier than being in jail.

A psychologist told a tribunal the manipulative murderer read up on the symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia and copied them.

It was also claimed that the vicious killer actually scoffs down three meals a day inside prison and is a big fan of cheese on toast.
This year he revealed he was dying of a terminal lung and chest condition and had been bedridden for two years.

What Happened to Myra Hindley?

Hindley was sentenced to life in prison for the murders of Evans and Downey and sent to Holloway Prison.

In 1987 she and Brady finally admitted murdering Keith Bennett and Pauline Reade, and following a return to the moors Pauline’s remains were discovered.

Hindley waged a long campaign to be released, but in 1998 the Appeal Court backed the decision by former Home Secretary Jack Straw that she should stay in prison until she died.

She became a devout Roman Catholic in prison and gained a degree in humanities.

But the other women inmates did not believe she had changed and had only pretended to seek religion to protect herself from the other inmates and gain an early release.

Hindley had numerous requests for release rejected by the High Court
Hindley died in jail in November 2002, aged 61, after suffering respiratory failure following a heart attack.

She was a 40-a-day smoker who in 1999 had been diagnosed with angina and hospitalised after suffering a brain aneurysm.

She was cremated following a private funeral conducted by Father Michael Teader, a Roman Catholic priest at Highpoint Prison, Suffolk, where Hindley spent her final years in jail.

A member of the public left a banner at the entrance to the crematorium which read;

“Burn in hell”

New York Architect Arrested in Long Island Serial Killings - At Least 11 Bodies Found in Gilgo Beach in 2010s

Long Island Police Search Storage Unit Tied to Alleged Serial Killer Rex Heuermann

BBC NEWS 17 JUL 2023

Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann arrested

Long Island police have been searching a storage unit in connection to suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann following his bombshell arrest on Thursday.

Suffolk Police Officers executed a search warrant at a single unit at Omega Self Storage in Amityville late on Sunday night, according to News 12 Long Island.

Over the weekend, investigators combed through the married father-of-two’s home in Massapequa Park in connection to the unsolved murders looking for evidence and possible trophies from the killings. At one point, a trove of firearms was seized from the family property.

Mr Heuermann, a 59-year-old Long Island native, was taken into custody on Thursday night and charged with three of the murders which have haunted Gilgo Beach for more than a decade.

Court records show the Manhattan architect was linked to the killings with the help of a discarded pizza box, a trove of burner phones, and his wife’s hair which was found on a victim’s body.

He was charged with three counts of murder in the first degree and three in the second degree over the deaths of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy and Amber Costello. He pleaded not guilty in court on Friday.

Who Are The Victims Heuermann is Accused of Murdering?

Mr Heuermann was charged with three counts of murder in the first degree and three in the second degree over the deaths of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy and Amber Costello.

The three women all vanished without a trace while working as escorts. Their bodies were found in December 2011 during a search for Shannan Gilbert – a 24-year-old sex worker from New Jersey who vanished after visiting a client in Oak Park and making a chilling 911 call where she revealed fears for her life.

Mr Heuermann is also the prime suspect in the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes – who together with the three is known as the “Gilgo Beach Four” – who was last seen alive in early June 2007 in New York City.

The four women were found within one-quarter mile of each other, bound by belts or tape.

Authorities looking into possibility Gilgo Beach murder suspect took ‘trophies from victims’

A source told The New York Post that investigators are looking to see if the accused killer took any trophies from his victims.

“We’re just going through his house looking to see if there’s any evidence. If he has any trophies,” they said.
Classmate of Gilgo Beach murders suspect reveals he left ‘love notes’ in her locker

A former classmate of Gilgo Beach suspect Rex Heuermann says the alleged serial killer was very quiet in high school.

Maureen Holpit, 59, who attended Berner High School in Massapequa with Rex Heuermann, told The Independent that Mr Heuermann was once a shy teen who would often leave “love notes” in her locker. Ms Holpit said her exchanges with the now suspected serial killer were always pleasant and polite.
“I was always nice and friendly to him, you know. Seemed like he kind of got picked on and people would maybe portray him as a little nerdy. He was very quiet, mild-mannered. So I was nice and would say, ‘Hey, Rex, how are you?,’” Ms Holpit, who now lives in Florida, tells The Independent.

Long Island Serial Killer Indicted on NEW Murder Charge of Fourth Victim

Two Sex Workers Call Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Suspect Violent and Aggressive

Rex Heuermann was indicted for killing Maureen Brainard-Barnes, whose remains were found in marshland along Gilgo Beach

The Guardian 18 JAN 2024

Rex Heuermann, the architect accused of murdering at least three women near Long Island’s Gilgo Beach, appears with his lawyer in Suffolk county court.

The accused Long Island serial killer Rex Heuermann has been indicted on a new murder charge in the killing of a fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who investigators believe was the first of the “Gilgo Four” to be killed, according to an indictment unsealed on Tuesday.

The unsealing of the indictment came after authorities announced Heuermann would face “a major development” in the investigation of the Gilgo Beach killings, which all targeted sex workers and lay unsolved for more than a decade.

The Manhattan architect’s indictment was handed up by a special grand jury that was convened to consider an indictment in the killing of Brainard-Barnes, whose remains were found close to three other women in marshland along Gilgo Beach.

Heuermann, 60, had been named as the “prime suspect” in Brainard-Barnes’s disappearance. In July, he was charged with first- and second-degree murder in the killings of the three other women – Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Lynn Costello. According to prosecutors, investigators linked Heuermann to the murders through DNA, cellphone site data and burner phones.

In all, 10 sets of remains – all of sex workers – were discovered in the area, with police theorizing that all died at the hands of one or more serial killers.

Brainard-Barnes was 25 years old when she went missing on 9 July 2007 after calling a friend to say she was be going to meet someone outside a Manhattan motel on an “out call”. Three years later, on 13 December 2010, her remains were found near Gilgo Beach, during the search for Shannan Gilbert, whose death in nearby marshes has never been fully explained.

Brainard-Barnes was also the victim whose remains were bound with three perished belts, one with a distinctive buckle with the embossed initials “WH” or “HM” that investigators publicly linked to her killer and used four years ago to stir interest in what was then a cold case.

The initial three of Heuermann’s alleged victims were linked to the accused man using mitochondrial DNA from a pizza crust and a used napkin that were allegedly discarded by Heuermann near his Manhattan office. It was then linked to a hair found on green burlap sacking used to “restrain and transport” the remains of one of the victims.

Heuermann’s attorney, Michael Brown, has said his client denied the accusations against him. The case was broken open last year when investigators linked a distinctive Chevrolet pickup described by a friend of Amber Costello’s to the suspect.

Ahead of an upcoming trial, Brown has said that the DNA claims presented by prosecutors may only place Heuermann in a pool of “thousands and thousands” of possible matches.

But the case continues to roil Long Island law enforcement, amid allegations of longstanding corruption that stalled the investigation. Last year, the Suffolk county police commissioner, Rodney Harrison, who led the taskforce into the 14-year-old case, abruptly stepped down.

It was later claimed that Harrison had changed vacation days to sick days on previously filed timesheets. But others speculated that Harrison had gotten too close to John Ray, an attorney representing the family of Shannan Gilbert who maintains that police corruption had hampered the Gilgo investigations.

In October, soon after Harrison attended a press conference convened by Ray to further his claims, the local district attorney, Ray Tierney, issued a slap-down, saying that his office would “continue to investigate this case through the grand jury process” and “not through press conferences”.

“Any attorneys representing victims or their families, by definition, have a conflict of interest and should not be a part of the investigation,” Tierney added.
