Seven Prisoners are BEHEADED and Six Others Burned Alive After Rival Gangs Clash in Brazilian Prison

  • Inmates in one wing attacked rivals in another wing during visiting time
  • They took 100 visitors - including women - hostage and killed 25 prisoners
  • The violence happened at Monte Cristo prison in Boa Vista, Roraima state
Daily Mail UK, 17 October 2016

Seven prisoners have been beheaded and another six burned to death in horrific clashes between rival gangs at a prison in Brazil.

The police say at least 25 inmates have been killed in the bloody fighting at the Monte Cristo prison in the city of Boa Vista, capital of rural Roraima state in northern Brazil.

Brazil's prisons are notoriously over-crowded and brutal.

The commander of the Police Special Operations Battalion, Captain Falkner Ferreira, said trouble broke out during visiting hours when some inmates broke padlocks and attacked those in another wing, who are believed to have been members of a rival gang.
The rioters also took 100 women visitors hostage.

The BBC said the hostages had been freed and the riot ended, although it did not make clear if the police had quelled it.
The Roraima state government said it was waiting to confirm the death toll.
Captain Ferreira said prisoners had been armed with knives and wooden sticks.

In 1992 more than 110 prisoners died during a riot at Carandiru prison in Sao Paulo (pictured), which has since been demolished and replaced by the equally violent Bangu jail

Brazil has the fourth largest prison population in the world, with 600,000 inmates packed into a number of increasingly ramshackle jails.

At Monte Cristo 1,400 inmates were being held in a prison which was supposed to have a capacity of half that figure.

Last week Valdir Pereira da Rocha, who was being held in custody accused of plotting ISIS bomb attacks on targets at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, was attacked at a jail in Varzea Grande, in Mato Grosso state. He is on a life support machine.

Another Nightmare Prison Riot > Prisoners STARVING to Death >> Cannibalism?:

Father Claims His Son was EATEN by Fellow Inmates During a Riot at a Prison in Venezuela

  • Juan Carlos Herrera claims his son was butchered on the instruction of an inmate serving time for cannibalism
  • His son, Juan Carlos Herrera Jr, and another inmate are missing
  • Mr Herrera claimed another inmate had said his son was stabbed, hanged and then dismembered before being eaten
  • Minister of Correctional Affairs Iris Varela confirmed the disappearance but denied the cannibalism allegations
Daily Mail UK, 15 October 2016

A distraught father has claimed his 25-year-old son was beaten, dismembered and eaten by fellow inmates at a Venezuelan prison.
Juan Carlos Herrera made the allegation after visiting the jail following a month-long mutiny.

He said witnesses had told him about the killing of Juan Carlos Herrera Jnr, which allegedly happened at the Táchira Detention Center.

It comes days after shocking reports emerged claiming that inmates in the crisis-struck country were starving to death amid food shortages.

Juan Carlos Herrara broke down in tears as he told journalists that his 25-year-old son had been stabbed, dismembered and eaten by fellow inmates

Speaking to journalists, Mr Herrera said:

'One of those who were with him when he was murdered saw everything that happened.
'My son and two others were taken by 40 people, stabbed, hanged to bleed, and then Dorancel butchered them to feed all detainees.'

He was referring to inmate Dorancel 'people-eater' Vargas, who has been in prison since 1999 for cannibalism.

The devastated father continued:

'The inmate with whom I spoke to told me that he was beaten with a hammer [in order] to force him to eat the remains of the two boys.'
He continued: 'What hurts me most is that I cannot bury my son, I can’t give him a Christian burial.

'I beg you to give me at least one bone so we can bury him and relieve some of this pain.'

Juan Carlos Jnr was jailed last year for robbery.

Authorities have confirmed that he and fellow inmate Anthony Correa were nowhere to be found when the mutiny ended.

On September 8, a group of prisoners complaining about overcrowded conditions took eight visitors and two guards hostage, demanding that some prisoners be transferred elsewhere.
It is believed that there were 350 prisoners in the jail, which has a capacity of 120.
The rebellion came to an end on October 7, when the government agreed to transfer 16 inmates.

An anonymous police source told Fox News that the allegations were true, stating:

'Two inmates are missing.
'They cut them up and fed them to several [of the fellow inmates], they made the bones disappear. Dorancel cut the flesh.'

Authorities, however, have not offered an explanation about how the two men disappeared.
The Minister of Correctional Affairs, Iris Varela, has denied they were eaten, and said Mr Herrera has been spreading lies which can be 'easily debunked'.

Earlier this week a shocking video emerged from a jail at San Juan de los Morros, in the central Guarico region of Venezuela, showing emaciated inmates struggling to survive.

With the country in the grip of a crippling economic crisis, starving prisoners can be seen standing in line and begging for help from the outside world.

Venezuela's economy is in a tailspin, with shortages of items from disinfectant to chemotherapy drugs crippling the health sector and leaving 30 million citizens struggling to access basic medical care.

Venezuela's economy is in a tailspin, with shortages of items from disinfectant to chemotherapy drugs crippling the health sector and leaving 30 million citizens struggling to access basic medical care.

Food queues, hyperinflation and mass looting have been part of daily life since a fall in global oil prices left its economy on its knees.
The prison footage was reportedly filmed by inmate Franklin Paul Hernandez Quezad.

One prisoner was said to be so weak he had to be lifted into a chair to be filmed.

Another is said to have died from starvation and disease.

One of the men says to the camera:

'Look at me, look at the state we are in, we need medicine in order to survive.'

Another inmate in what appears to be a wheelchair also asks for medicine:

'We are all human beings and we need a second chance.'
And the third echoes the sentiment saying: 'Please, don't leave us to die in here, help us brothers. We do not want to die.'

Images also show prisoners being given food at the jail in central Venezuela

Outraged relatives of the inmates have demanded that authorities step in to investigate

The person recording the video says: 'The media needs to know what is happening here.'

There are claims in local media that Venezuelan police had apparently blocked deliveries of food, medicine and water to the prison.
The allegations have caused outrage with prisoners' relatives who have asked the authorities to step in.
