Have you ever wondered where is the safest country in the world?

For the 11th year running, Iceland has been voted the number one haven for residents.

Every year, The Institute for Economics and Peace, an Australian think tank, analyzes 163 countries to determine where is the most peaceful. To do so, it has formed its Global Peace Index, which takes many factors into account.

The Global Peace Index takes into account factors such as government, corruption, crime, terrorism, weapons, and prison systems.

A country's peace is then measured by using three thematic domains: the level of Societal Safety and Security; the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict; and the degree of Militarisation.

Aside from Iceland, the top ten was comprised of European countries such as Austria (No. 3), Portugal (No. 4), Denmark (No. 5), the Czech Republic (No. 7), and Ireland (No. 10). New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, and Japan also made the top 10 list.

The United States was outside the top 100, ranking 121st.

The report cited political polarization, nuclear weapons, external conflicts, weapons exports, and high rates of incarcerations as reasons for such a low score.

Unfortunately, the report revealed that ninety-two countries have deteriorated this year.
