Re: Transfer hard drive????

It was my understanding that "the HD doesn't store any driver info... It is the OS that has the drivers that it (OS) needs to read the HD". But saying that this doesn't apply if the HD is set up as a Compressed HD which some early LapTops use to do. You can tell if the HD is compressed by using a File Exploring program that is not part of the Operating System (use a 3rd party program). Most often you will see a drive that just has ONE huge file on it which takes up 99% of the known HD space.
Personally I have removed LapTop drives and attached them to my PC and they read correctly (if they are not damaged). I have transferred many HD files from different Brand Named systems, both PC and LapTops, on to new Drives and / or into new systems.
The only Problem that I ever face is normally Driver Files which I then just Down Load and burn to disc and then install on to the new system.
.
I would just try moving the HD and see what happens. One it may not load up the OS or Two it will work but want to change the System Settings to match the new system. Regardless .. the HD will not be damaged ... Naturally you cannot put a PC HD into an Apple Mac system.
.
Why are you buying a NEW system with-out a HD? This is not normally done.
If you are buying a USED system with-out a HD then ask yourself why is there no HD in it, considering the small cost of a new HD.
.
Hope that this helps.
More info is required if extra help is needed.
HD size and Date of Manufacture. OS. Old and New Make&Model of System.

Buy the New System with the HD installed and then just copy your required files over from the old HD.
