Green Arrow Help on Blocking Those Annoying Ads!

Adblock Plus Add On for Firefox

Here are some links for those of you that were asking about how to block all those annoying ads.

Adblock Plus

However, when you are watching videos of live streams, they may block you from seeing them, if you have your Adblock switched on, as they receive an income from the ads, you can temp disable it. The icon for it is usually on the top right hand site of your browser. Just remember to switch it back on afterwards.

OR you can try this one, you usually need a licence for it, but I am sure you will find a "Trial Version" if you do a search.

Here is one download, through CNET, who are usually very good for "Free Trial" Downloads;

Ad-Aware Plus/Pro

More info & Help on that one here;

HELP

However the add on for Firefox usually does the trick for some, but this one is supposed to be the best, FREE download here;

SUPER Ad BLOCKER

I must say those ads irritate many. I also cant stand the way many sites have pop ups for Facebook, Twitter, etc. But there is a way around those too, I will post another thread on that to help you when I get time.

Good Luck!

Noscript addon is the one I use for firefox. It blocks prettymuch everything, javascript, flash popups etc, until you tell it to allow it.

Been using that for years, works great. Just be careful what you block from DTD1, or any site, it can block the buttons as well.

Stopped using FireFox years ago.

Opera is a much faster browser and has most of what you need including add blocking built in.

So easy to use. The user gets to choose which images to block.
If you change your mind about an image you can unblock it again just as easily.

Thanks for this interesting thread.

So I gather there are more that don't like the ads and don't like being tracked. So I will give you a list that seems to be effective for me and if you use Firefox, may be effective for you too.

Notice that I say maybe. Firefox of late has been on a rampage of breaking old extensions as it updates like crazy. So often these extensions work and then don't work when the update happens.

Anyway here's my list of stoppers for the browser...
Adblock Plus
Adblock Plus Popup Add on
Element Hiding Helper for AdBlock
Beef Taco
Better Privacy
Firegloves
Ghostery
Https Everywhere
NoScript
Redirect Remover

Many of those are not for blocking advertisers but are security related. I list these because many may not be aware those items exist. Call me paranoid or just I like my privacy, don't care which.

Not a lot of folk run Opera anymore. Not trying to discourage fanboys or anything else. Lots of Opera users are very happy with the browser...don't believe it ask them. *smiles*

What I ran into is what a lot of folks trying to get used to Opera run into. Very few are actually willing to help the new user with all the KB shortcuts. They get rather snobbish at times. It resulted in the dropping of the browser for something a bit more user friendly.

Hmm, I really don't wanna get off on the wrong foot here. No ill will was meant. I much agree and always have, that whatever works for you will do.

It's just that Opera has a considerable learning curve for a new user. If you've used it for years, there is no curve as you've grown with it. You've invested enough time to over come it.

I totally agree with you in all points, I tested it for a while and finally gave up. They are also down on the recommended browser ratings sites.

Thanks for all your input on various threads photostill.
