Revealed: Eagles Guitarist Glenn Frey Had Been Hospitalized Since November
> He Was In and Out of a Coma From Pneumonia Before His Death

Daily Mail UK, 19 January 2016

As the world continues to mourn Glenn Frey, a close friend has revealed the Eagles guitarist had been hospitalized since November.

'First he caught one set of pneumonia, then he caught a very virulent set of pneumonia,' longtime friend Seger said 'They were trying like hell to keep him alive. He'd been at Columbia University Medical Center since November.'

Seger, a close friend and collaborator since the mid-'60s on the Detroit scene, said the 67-year-old had the eight best specialists working on him.

Hospitalized: Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey had been at Columbia University Medical Center since November, according to a longtime friend

'About a month ago, they had to throw up their hands,' Seger added.

Frey died Monday in New York City. His cause of death was a combination of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia.

The Michigan native was a founding member and guitarist of the 1970s band the Eagles, which produced one of the biggest rock hits of all time: Hotel California.

The death was then confirmed on the website of his band in a joint statement from Don Henley and Joe Walsh as it began:

'It Is With The Heaviest of Hearts That We Announce... the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.

'Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.'

The star was a major part of the Eagles, helping them land in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame with several classics.

Seger told Detroit Free Press he last saw fellow Detroit native Frey in July when the Eagles played Joe Louis Arena.
Seger added Frey fell ill a few months later and never recovered.

'First he caught one set of pneumonia, then he caught a very virulent set of pneumonia,' Seger said. 'He was in a coma, and he’d come out, but then he couldn’t breathe. They’d put him back in a coma.'
