Brock Lesnar

The 2015 Royal Rumble is a show likely to live in infamy, thanks to a number of booking decisions that left the rabid fans in Philadelphia none too pleased with WWE's crack creative staff.

While the majority of the discussion will turn toward Roman Reigns' Rumble victory and Daniel Bryan's early elimination, not to mention the surprises the company presented throughout the evening and fans' eagerness to fantasy book the WrestleMania card, there were several moments during Sunday's show that stood out as incredibly underrated.

Whether they featured tag team dominance by the Bella Twins, Damien Mizdow teasing independence from Hollywood A-list tag team partner The Miz or the entire WWE World Heavyweight Championship match, several of the night's moments were overshadowed by the more controversial bits that unfolded late in the show.

Rather than wasting time paying attention to those moments that were overexposed on Twitter and various other social media platforms, join me for this look back at the most underrated moments from Sunday's Royal Rumble event.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match

So much attention was paid to everything WWE did wrong during the Royal Rumble match that the absolutely phenomenal heavyweight title bout that unfolded moments earlier went underrated and under-appreciated by fans in the event's wake.

The dramatic near-falls, the sheer brutality from Brock Lesnar and the career-defining performance from Seth Rollins fueled a title bout likely to stick around to December as a Match of the Year contender.

Fans in Philly rewarded the efforts of all three Superstars with chants of "this is awesome," and the typically overused chant was spot on in this instance.

Lesnar retained his title and turned in his best performance since his WWE Championship defense against Eddie Guerrero way back in February 2004, while John Cena was the glue that held the match together.

The Phoenix Splash from Rollins was one of the coolest moments of the entire show and really hammered home the importance of the match—and WWE world heavyweight title—to the former Architect of The Shield.

"This is a championship match!" John Bradshaw Layfield exclaimed following the top-rope elbow drop through the announcers table by Rollins, and he was right.

On a night when fans seemingly had nothing better to do than complain about what they perceived to be "wrong with WWE," three Superstars turned in a hell of a performance that deserves recognition and celebration.

The Bella Twins Dominate

Most will criticize and label the Divas tag match between the Bella Twins, Natalya and Paige as an overly long waste of time, but upon further review, it was a masterclass in sensible booking—a compliment not typically afforded to the handling of women's wrestling in WWE.

Commentator Jerry "the King" Lawler made an excellent point early in the match when he spoke about Brie and Nikki's status as twin sisters—not to mention career-long tag partners—aiding them in the contest.

He stated that makes them the better team, whereas Natalya and Paige had only been partnering for a few weeks.

Lawler's statement provided the foundation for the match, as the superior team dominated the match and won.

Rarely does WWE book a one-sided match, even when it would make sense to do so. On Sunday night, Brie and Nikki beat Natalya and Paige in tag team wrestling because, simply put, they were a better and more cohesive unit.

What a concept.

The Rise of Damien Mizdow

After months of playing second fiddle to The Miz, not to mention suffering another tag team defeat because of the former WWE champion earlier in the evening, Damien Mizdow defied the orders of the Hollywood star and entered the Royal Rumble, drawing a huge ovation from the Philly fans in the process.

Sure, he only lasted a grand total of 15 seconds, but he stood up for himself and did something Miz specifically ordered him not to.

This insinuated that WWE Creative has finally opted to pull the proverbial trigger and plant the seeds for the split that will allow Mizdow to try and rebuild his singles career.

A feud between the two stars could make for some entertaining television, which certainly has not been the case over the last month with them repeatedly wrestling Jimmy and Jey Uso.
