Unhappy PhOtOs -Robin Williams Parkinsons Disease=Suicide??

Updated 7:26 PM EDT, Mon August 11, 2014

(CNN) -- Comedic actor Robin Williams died at his Northern California home Monday, law enforcement officials said. Williams was 63.

Coroner investigators suspect "the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia," according to a statement from the Marin County, California, Sheriff's office.
"Robin Williams passed away this morning," his media representative Mara Buxbaum told CNN.

"He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."

Williams married graphic designer Susan Schneider in Napa Valley, California, ceremony in October 2011. Schneider sent a written statement to CNN through the representative.

"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken.

"On behalf of Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."

Marin County deputies responded to an emergency call from Williams' home in unincorporated Tiburon, California, at 11:55 a.m., reporting "a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing," the release from the sheriff said.

Williams was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m., it said.

Williams was last seen alive at his home, where he lives with his wife, at about 10 a.m., the sheriff's statement said.

"An investigation into the cause, manner and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff's Office," the sheriff's statement said.

"Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made."

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, the sheriff said.

Publicist Mara Buxbaum said at the time that Williams had not fallen off the wagon, but was 'taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud.'

From his breakthrough in the late 1970s as the alien in the hit TV show 'Mork and Mindy,' through his standup act and such films as 'Good Morning, Vietnam,' the short, barrel-chested Williams ranted and shouted as if just sprung from solitary confinement.

Loud, fast, manic, he parodied everyone from John Wayne to Keith Richards, impersonating a Russian immigrant as easily as a pack of Nazi attack dogs.

He was a riot in drag in 'Mrs. Doubtfire,' or as a cartoon genie in 'Aladdin.' He won his Academy Award in a rare, but equally intense dramatic role, as a teacher in the 1997 film 'Good Will Hunting.'

He was no less on fire in interviews.

During a 1989 chat with The Associated Press, he could barely stay seated in his hotel room, or even mention the film he was supposed to promote, as he free-associated about comedy and the cosmos.

'There's an Ice Age coming,' he said. 'But the good news is there'll be daiquiris for everyone and the Ice Capades will be everywhere. The lobster will keep for at least 100 years, that's the good news. The Swanson dinners will last a whole millennium. The bad news is the house will basically be in Arkansas.'

Like so many funnymen, he had serious ambitions, winning his Oscar for his portrayal of an empathetic therapist in 'Good Will Hunting.'

He also played for tears in 'Awakenings,' 'Dead Poets Society' and 'What Dreams May Come,' something that led New York Times critic Stephen Holden to once say he dreaded seeing the actor's 'Humpty Dumpty grin and crinkly moist eyes.'

Williams also won three Golden Globes, for 'Good Morning, Vietnam,' 'Mrs. Doubtfire' and 'The Fisher King.'

Born in Chicago in 1951, the four-time Oscar nominee and one-time winner started as a funnyman and soon proved he could also captivate America with his skills as an improvisor and dramatic actor.

He is survived by his wife of three years Susan Schneider and children Zachary Pym, Zelda Rae and Cody Alan.

First wife: Robin Williams with his first wife Valerie Velardi, who was married to the comic from 1978 to 1988
-and his second wife, Marsha Garces, who was married to the Oscar winner from 1989 to 2010

Despite his lifetime battle with depression and substance abuse, the four-time Oscar nominee was in the midst of a career Renaissance of sorts.

In December, Williams will reprise his role of Teddy Roosevelt in the third installment of the Night at the Museum franchise.

The Chicago-born funnyman had also recently made headlines after he signed on to once again play the cross-dressing Mrs. Doubtfire in a sequel to the 1993 family comedy.

Williams' star power and status as one of America's most adored comedians had never really gone away throughout his 35-plus year career.

He first became a household name in 1978 with his breakout role as zany alien come to earth Mork in the ABC comedy Mork & Mindy.

Partly on the power of his sitcom's popularity, Williams soon made his big screen debut in Robert Altman's 1980 comedy Popeye as the spinach-loving muscleman.

Reviews were mixed for the live action film, but Williams easily moved on to such successes as The World According to Garp, The Survivors and Moscow on the Hudson.

Then at 36, Williams took his career another great leap forward thanks to the undeniable magnetism he put on display in 1987's Good Morning Vietnam.

For laughs: Robin Williams performs at the 7th Annual Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation's Grand Slam
for Children benefit concert on September 28, 2002 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada

The role would win him his first Academy Award nomination. He would go on to receive three more nods and one statue, for his role of Sean Maguire in the 1998 hit Good Will Hunting alongside a fresh-faced Matt Damon.

The undeniable success did not always bring Williams the happiness his gifts gave audiences.

Williams' drug and alcohol problems first arose while he was still appearing in Mork & Mindy--right at the start of his fame.

His struggle would continue for decades. As recently as this past July, Williams would reconnect with the 12-step program he's so often championed, this time during a brief stay at a Minnesota facility.

Publicist Mara Buxbaum said at the time that Williams was 'taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud.'

Williams was very open about the challenges of maintaining sobriety. He sought treatment in 2006 when he relapsed and returned to drinking after 20 years.

Williams stars in the CBS series The Crazy Ones and the film The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, which was released in May.
END

Very Very Sad..... RIP Robin

Daily Mail UK, 15 August 2014

Heartbreaking pictures of Robin Williams taken just a day before his death have emerged showing the 63-year-old comedian looking frail and drawn.

The images depict the actor with a sparse grey beard and mustache dressed in all black.
The photographs were taken on Saturday night at a reception held at an art gallery near his home in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Final glimpses: This is one of the last pictures of Robin Williams taken at a San Francisco
art gallery, just a day before his death. His brunette wife, Susan, is pictured in the foreground

Gaunt: The 62-year-old actor, who had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, appears frail and stooped in his all-black outfit

The pictures come after it was revealed yesterday in a statement by his wife Susan Schneider that the actor had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

According to Ms Schneider, her husband wasn't ready to share the diagnosis with the world, and added that his 'sobriety was intact' at the time of his death.
She also said the 63-year-old was also struggling with depression and anxiety. Authorities say the actor-comedian's death was suicide by hanging.

The statement said: 'Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson’s Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly.'

She did not offer details on when Williams had been diagnosed or his symptoms.
In one of the images taken of Williams on Saturday, obtained by a gossip website, the actor is seen mingling with other guests with a slight smile on his lean face.
In another shot, the actor is pictured from behind looking painfully thin and stooped, his black short-sleeved short revealing bony arms.
Artist Mark Jaeger, whose ceramic works were featured in an exhibition that night, told TMZ that the actor spent about an hour at the reception and seemed to be in high spirits, talking and laughing with other guests.

Disease: Robin Williams was battling the early stages of Parkinson's Disease when he took
his life, his grieving wife, Susan Schneider, pictured with him in 2012, revealed

He attended the event with his wife who can be seen in one of the images, but was not drinking alcohol, according to the eyewitness.
Mr Jaeger recalled that he and Williams, who in the past had bought a sculpture from him, were discussing an idea for a script about a homeless superhero based on his ceramic superhero series.
On Monday morning, less than 48 hours after the party, Williams' lifeless body was discovered in his lavish, art-filled home by his assistant.
The statement, released by his wife yesterday which revealed the actor's diagnosis, she also said that her husband's greatest legacy was his three children.

'HE WAS BRAVE AS HE STRUGGLED WITH HIS OWN BATTLES': WIDOW'S TRIBUTE TO HUSBAND WHO 'SPENT .. HIS LIFE HELPING OTHERS'

'Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child - Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid, she said.

'Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched.

'His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to those fighting personal battles.

'Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson’s Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly.

'It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.'

The statement also prompted fellow actor and Michael J. Fox, who has also been living with Parkinson's disease since the early 1990s, to take to Twitter on Thursday to express his shock at the news of the diagnosis.

'Stunned to learn Robin had PD,' the actor wrote to his 1.16million followers, calling Williams a 'true friend.'

Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement. It develops gradually, sometimes starting with a small tremor in one hand.
The disorder also commonly causes stiffness or slowing of movement.
Fox, who was diagnosed with the disease in 1991 but kept it a secret for seven years, is known worldwide for his efforts to fund research into it.

It has five stages. It's not clear what stage Williams was at.

They had much in common: Michael J. Fox and Robin Williams pose backstage at the hit play Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo in 2011.
It was revealed on Thursday that Williams had Parkinson's disease, the same condition suffered by Fox

Stage one sees a patient experience mild symptoms that inconvenience day-to-day tasks, including the presence of tremors or experiencing shaking in one of the limbs. Friends and family can generally detect changes in the patient including poor posture, loss of balance, and abnormal facial expressions.

In the second stage, the patient's symptoms start to affect both limbs and both sides of the body.

They usually encounter problems walking or maintaining balance, and the inability to complete normal physical tasks becomes more apparent.

During stage three, the disease becomes more severe, with some patients losing the ability to walk straight or to stand and a noticeable slowing of physical movements. It gets progressively more debilitating in stages four and five.

The revelation comes a day after comedian's former spokeswoman, who is now speaking on behalf of the family, quashed widespread rumors that Williams had serious money troubles.

Robin Williams, pictured days before his death with monkey Crystal, was thin and drawn in his last weeks, neighbors said

Tributes: Flowers were left outside the home of actor and comedian Robin Williams in Tiburon, California

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: NEIGHBOR WHO SAW STAR ONE DAY BEFORE DEATH SAYS 'HE WAS A SHELL'

One of the last people to see Robin Williams alive has said the renowned funnyman was 'a shell' when she saw him a day before he killed himself.
A longtime neighbor has exclusively told MailOnline that Williams was withdrawn when she stopped to chat with him last weekend near his home outside Tiburon, California.
Through tears she said: 'The last time I saw Robin was over the weekend, we would catch up on the street, just casual.
'He was very drawn and thin, he did not look like the Robin who first moved into this community many years ago.
'He was a shell of himself, exhausted and not in the best spirits, but still the nice guy I had always known. There seemed to be something on his mind.
'He was not at all like his stage persona, that was not the Robin I knew. He was more quiet and down-to-earth, not over-the-top like he was in the movies. He listened well.
'He was often quiet and very private.
'The last time I saw him he seemed to be in a bad place emotionally.'
'Reports suggesting Robin may have had financial issues are simply false,' Mara Buxbaum said in an email to NBC
'I understand people's desire to try to understand this, but we would encourage your focus be on working to help others and understand depression.'

On Thursday, a friend and neighbor said that Schneider left the family home 15 minutes after being questioned by police about her husband's suicide - and won't return to the house that 'had so much life in it.'

The 50-year-old who married the actor in 2011, is said to have left the small town where she lives and can't face going back to collect her belongings.

A family friend told MailOnline: 'Susan won't come back to the house. She really, really, loved it here and used to say all the time that it had so much life in it. It's so desperately sad.'
The neighbor, who did not wish to be named, added: 'As soon as she finished talking to the cops she left town, obviously she couldn't bare staying in the house which is understandable.
'Someone came to collect some personal items and belongings for her but left within 15 minutes.'

The home, where the Academy Award winner was found hanged by his assistant, is decorated with art and sculptures, as well as 'creepy' statues that were a favorite of Williams', the pal revealed.

The couple also 'decorated the house with loads of art and they had some magnificent sculptures in there too,' the neighbor, who lives a few doors away, told MailOnline.

The friend added: 'Robin even had these creepy little statues scattered around the place. The whole place was so artistic and had so much character, just like him.'

After leaving a hand-picked flower on the pile he held back tears and told MailOnline the shock news has finally hit home.

'It's only beginning to sink in today. It's been so busy here that I didn't properly process it,' he said, but declined to speak directly about the Williams family.

Family: Zachary Pym Williams, Robin Williams and Susan Schneider attend The Comedy Awards 2012 in New York

Another local said: 'Robin tried to keep himself to himself if he could, despite fame he was such an introvert. He used to like walking his dogs so he could be alone.'

Earlier this week, the actor's three children paid tribute to their father after he was found hanged in his bedroom at his California home.

The Mrs Doubtfire star was discovered by his personal assistant on Monday morning after he failed to answer his door.

Williams was last seen alive by Schneider at around 10.30pm on Sunday before she went to bed, Lieutenant Keith Boyd, Marin County's assistant chief deputy coroner, said.

She left their home in the town of Tiburon at 10.30am on Monday believing he was still in bed.

Private pain: In a statement, Susan Schneider said the beloved comedy actor, seen last year, wasn't ready
to share the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease with the world, and added that his 'sobriety was intact'

But his assistant found the father of three clothed, unconscious and not breathing in his room at about 11.45am, and after the 'distraught' woman called emergency services, firefighters pronounced him dead at 12.02pm.

Lt Boyd told reporters in California: 'Our indication at this time is that it is a suicide due to asphyxia due to hanging.'

The actor had recently grappled with severe depression, and earlier this week Williams' family were joined by giants from the world of Hollywood and politics as they mourned his death.

Schneider earlier said she was 'utterly heartbroken' and that she had 'lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings.'

In a statement on Tuesday, his daughter Zelda Williams, 25, said: 'Dad was, is and always will be one of the kindest, most generous, gentlest souls I've ever known, and while there are few things I know for certain right now, one of them is that not just my world, but the entire world is forever a little darker, less colorful and less full of laughter in his absence.

'We'll just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again.'

Also on Tuesday, his first son Zak Williams, 31, said: 'Yesterday, I lost my father and a best friend and the world got a little grayer. I will carry his heart with me every day. I would ask those that loved him to remember him by being as gentle, kind, and generous as he would be. Seek to bring joy to the world as he sought.'

And his 23-year-old son Cody Williams added: 'There are no words strong enough to describe the love and respect I have for my father. The world will never be the same without him. I will miss him and take him with me everywhere I go for the rest of my life, and will look forward, forever, to the moment when I get to see him again.'

WILLIAMS WAS 'EXPERIENCING SHAKING IN HIS LIMBS' FROM PARKINSON'S
- THE DISEASE MICHAEL J. FOX HAS SUFFERED FROM FOR YEARS

WHAT IS Parkinson's Disease:

Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects movement.

It develops gradually, sometimes starting with a small tremor in one hand and the condition also commonly causes stiffness or slowing of movement.

Actor Michael J. Fox, who has long suffered from the disease, is known for his efforts to fund research into it.

Parkinson's, which has no cure, has five stages. It's not clear what stage Williams was at.

Stage one sees a patient experience mild symptoms that inconvenience day-to-day tasks, including the presence of tremors or experiencing shaking in one of the limbs. Friends and family can generally detect changes in the patient including poor posture, loss of balance, and abnormal facial expressions.

In stage two, the patient's symptoms start to affect both limbs and both sides of the body. They usually encounter problems walking or maintaining balance, and the inability to complete normal physical tasks becomes more apparent.

During stage three, the disease becomes more severe, with some patients losing the ability to walk straight or to stand and a noticeable slowing of physical movements.

Stage four is accompanied by severe symptoms of Parkinson's. Walking may still occur, but it is often limited and rigidity and bradykinesia are often visible. During this stage, most patients are unable to complete day-to-day tasks, and usually cannot live on their own. The tremors or shakiness that take over during the earlier stages however, may lessen or become non-existent for unknown reasons during this time.

In stage five, the final stage, Parkinson's disease usually takes over the patients physical movements leaving them unable to take care of themselves and generally unable to stand or walk. A patient at stage five usually requires constant one-on-one nursing care.
