1960's

The Kinks launch their first U.K. tour as headliners. The Yardbirds are also on the bill. 1965

“Aftermath,” the first Rolling Stones album completely composed by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, tops the U.K. chart. 1966

Paul Revere & The Raiders perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. Feeling that guitarist Drake Levin has encouraged bassist Phil Volk and drummer Mike Smith to leave the group, Revere hires Freddy Weller at the last minute as the band’s new guitarist. Levin shows Weller the chords to the songs and watches the performance from backstage. The next month, Volk and Smith join Levin to form The Brotherhood. 1967

Blood, Sweat & Tears founder Al Kooper leaves after the group’s debut album, “Child Is Father To Man” is recorded. Trumpet player Randy Brecker also hits the road. BS&T carries on as a M.O.R. act. 1968

1970's

The New York Times says promoter Bill Graham plans to close down the Fillmore East after a four year run. Graham closes down both the Fillmore East and the Fillmore West in San Francisco. Changing concert economics is blamed. 1971

Singer J.R. Richards (Dishwalla - "Counting Blue Cars") starts his life in lovely Santa Barbara, CA. 1972

The Steve Miller Band goes to the well again releasing “Jet Airliner” which sounds a lot like earlier hit “Rock N’ Me.” 1977

1990's

Nirvana signs a recording deal with DCG Records. They get a $287,000 advance. 1991

Nazareth drummer Darrell Sweet succumbs to a heart attack. 1999

All five members of Aerosmith visit a Columbine High School shooting victim (Lance Kirklin) at the hospital prior to their Denver show. 1999

2000's

The Hives’ “Veni Vidi Vicious” debuts in the U.S. The Swedes’ album was released eighteen months earlier in their native land. 2002

KISS’ Gene Simmons plays an angry mob kingpin on the NBC crime drama "Third Watch." 2004

Just another day in L.A. Velvet Revolver performs an acoustic set at a Los Angles radio station. Also, the recording studio Ray Charles built in the 1960’s on Washington Boulevard in central Los Angeles is designated a historic landmark by the city. 2004

Three southern music festivals kick off. They are the 2004 Music Midtown Festival in Atlanta, the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis and the Nashville River Stages Music Festival. The Foo Fighters and Fuel play all three. The Offspring, Puddle Of Mudd and Trapt perform in Atlanta and Memphis while ex-Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson appears in Nashville. 2004

Bruce Springsteen performs at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. It’s his first-ever appearance at the event. But the big news is his critical comments regarding the government's slow response to Hurricane Katrina. "I saw sights I never thought I'd see in an American city," says Springsteen. "The criminal ineptitude makes you furious." 2006

Keep those phones ringing. A New Jersey public television station broadcasts footage from Bruce Springsteen's Live In Dublin DVD, well in advance of its release. It's for a fundraiser. 2007

It's announced that Papa Roach has selected Unwritten Law's Tony Palermo to temporarily fill in for drummer Dave Buckner, who dropped from the group's North American tour for "personal reasons." Turns out, it is to enter rehab. "All the members of Papa Roach are looking forward to having Buckner back on the road with them in the very near future," reads a statement from the band's label. 2007

Stevie Wonder receives an honorary doctorate in music as part of the two-day opening celebration of the Kohl Building for Jazz Studies, an addition to Oberlin College, a private Liberal Arts institution. Located in Oberlin, OH, the school is noteworthy for having been the first American institution of higher learning to regularly admit female and black students. 2010

It's a day for comebacks. "Ready To Die," is the title of Iggy Pop And The Stooges fifth studio album. It’s the first set to feature guitarist James Williamson since the band's classic ’73 effort “Raw Power.” Deep Purple issue “Now What?!,” their 19th studio album but their first release in seven years. Speaking of a long time between releases, “Extended Play” is Fleetwood Mac's first new music in 10 years. The iTunes release contains "Sad Angel," "It Takes Time" and "Miss Fantasy," composed by guitarist/singer Lindsey Buckingham and "Without You," a track originally written by Stevie Nicks for the pre-Fleetwood Mac album “Buckingham/Nicks.” 2013

Super Duper Alice Cooper screens in more than 250 U.S. theatres. The film covers Alice Cooper’s rise, fall and eventual resurrection. 2014
