Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau is born. (1951)

Bobby Darin is the winner of the 1959 Grammy Award for Record of the Year -- "Mack the Knife" -- and the Best New Artist of the Year. Frank Sinatra's "Come Dance With Me." is the Album of the Year. (1959)

The Beatles' fifth British single "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is released. Advance orders exceed 700,000 and within three days, the record will have sold one million copies, making it their second million seller. (1963)

The Who release their first concept record, "The Who Sell Out." (1968)

John Lennon, the Beatle to be tried on drug charges, is convicted of possesion of cannabis and fined $360 in London. The court accepts his explanation that he no longer uses marijuana and that the amount found in his possession was an old, forgetten stash. Guitarist George Harrison passed away at age 58 while resting at a friend's home in Los Angeles. The news came as somewhat of a shock to the world, despite Harrison's much-chronicled cancer treatments throughout the year. Harrison left this world peacefully, according to those close to him and it's safe to bet he viewed death with the same zen-like perspective he carried throughout his life. (2001).
