Donald "Duck" Dunn of Booker T. & the MG's is born. (1941)
Lee Michaels is born. (1945) The Beatles begin recording sessions for the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" LP, laying tracks for "Strawberry Fields Forever" --- the track, however, doesn't make the album. (1966 The Rolling Stones' "Let it Bleed," which contains the original versions of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and "Honky Tonk Woman" and the show stopper "Midnight Rambler" but no hit singles, is certified gold. (1969) ABC-TV debuts its late-night rock show, "In Concert," put together by the same guy who brought us "The Monkees," Don Kirshner. The first show stars Alice Cooper, Chuck Berry, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Poco and the Allmans. (1972) Peabo Bryson, who broke into stardom in 1978, enters the soul charts with his biggest hit of the year, "Gimme Some Time," a duet with Natalie Cole which peaks at #8 in its fourteen weeks on the chart. (1979) Singer Big Joe Turner dies of a heart attack. He was one of the stars of the R&B era with hits like, "Shake, Rattle and Roll" and "Honey Hush." (1985) Queen lead signer Freddie Mercury dies from complications from AIDS at his home in London. He had sent out a statement confirming rumors that he had AIDS only two days before his death. He was 45. (1991) Cyndi Lauper marries actor David Thornton. That's not the weird part. The weird part is that Little Richard performs the ceremony. (1966) Lawyers for Rolling Stone Bill Wyman and his ex-wife Mandy Smith announce the terms of their divorce settlement. She keeps the house and its contents, plus legal fees. (1992) Eddie Money appears as himself on the "Drew Carey Show." Money refuses to grant the character Mimi a divorce, but is later duped into it.
