The Everly Brothers announce that they're thinking of leaving their record label, Cadence, and are talking with RCA and Warner Brothers. (1959)
The Beatles are awarded the prestigious MBE (Member of the British Empire) medal. (1965) Legendary disc jockey Murray the K returns to WMCA, the New York City radio station where he began his broadcasting career in the early fifties. (1968) The first of ten Top Twenty hits for soul singer Al Green, "Tired of Being Alone, goes gold. (1971) Playing for the second day in a row at Dodger Stadium, Elton John (the first rocker to play the ballpark since the Beatles in 1966) finishes up yet another SRO American tour. The bespectacled John takes the stage in a sequined Dodger uniform. (1975) Walter Murphy's Big Apple Band earns a gold record for its debut album, "A Fifth of Beethoven," which features the title single, a disco treatment of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony that hit Number One. (1976) The Police play their first U.S. show at Boston's Rat Club. (1978) The Jefferson Starship's Paul Kantner suffers a brain hemorrhage during a recording session. He spends 15 days in a Los Angeles hospital and is as good as new. (1980) Queen and David Bowie record "Under Pressure" in Montreaux, Switzerland. (1981) Pearl Jam sets a first week sales record by selling 950,000 copies of the "Vs." LP. The record is broken in 1998 by Garth Brooks and in 1999 by the Backstreet Boys. (1992) John Fogerty and wife Julie have a son...Tyler Jackson. (1992) Catholic churches in San Juan, Puerto Rico open their doors for the night and urges residents to tie black ribbons on trees to protest Madonna's first concert there.
