David Clayton-Thomas, vocalist for Blood Sweat & Tears, is born. (1941)

Peter Cetera, former bass player and vocalist for Chicago is born. (1944)

New York DJ Murray the K hosts the conclusion of the ten day rock & roll extravaganza at Brooklyn's Fox Theatre, held to compete against the Animals ten day run at Brooklyn's Paramount Theatre. Acts on the Fox bill include Marvin Gaye, the Miracles, Martha & the Vandellas, the Contours, the Supremes, the Searchers, the Temptations, Jay & the Americans, the Dovells, the Newbeats, Little Anthony & the Imperials, the Shangri-las and the Ronettes. The Fox show outdraws the concurrent Paramount show. (1964)

The Beatles release the single, "Yesterday/Act Naturally." This is also the day they win their first Grammy -- for Best Group and for their "A Hard Days Night" LP. (1965)

Ringo Starr and his wife Maureen give birth to son, Zak. (1965)

John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band, which included Eric Clapton on guitar, makes a surprise live debut at the Rock n' Roll Revival Concert in Toronto. The concert is recorded for the live album, "Live Peace in Toronto." (1969)

Santana's debut album enters the LP chart. (1969)

Stevie Wonder starts his first tour since his near-fatal car accident at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island. The night before a bash is held in Wonder's honor at Delmonico's Hotel. Among the attendees were Mick Jagger, Roberta Flack, Dudley Moore and Andy Warhol. (1974)

Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run" LP enters the chart. (1975)

RCA Records announces David Bowie has left for the South Seas where he'll begin filming "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence." It's a World War II drama by noted Japanese director Nagisa Oshima, who did "In the Realm of the Senses," a film which sparked much controversy in the U.S. because of the way it portrayed various sexual perversities. Sting begins his first solo tour in San Diego in support of his album, "Dream Of The Blue Turtles." (1985)

Bruce Springsteen records "Viva Las Vegas" for the Elvis Presley tribute album, "The Last Temptation of Elvis." (1989)

Sting makes his stage debut in the Threepenny Opera in Washington, D.C. to poor reviews. (1989)

Alice Cooper sells copies of his new record, "Hey Stoopid" for 99 cents in New York's Times Square. (1991)

"Late Night with Conan O'Brien" makes its premiere on NBC. E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg is the show's band leader with the Max Weinberg 7. (1993)

Rapper Tupac Shakur dies in a Las Vegas hospital -- six days after suffering gun shot wounds while inside a Mercedes. (1996)
