Oh Crap! PhOtOs-World Rivers/Lakes/Seas/Rain Turn RED

Rivers, Lakes, Seas and Even Rain are Turning Red in Colour

AP, 7 December, 2015

Recently, (which started from approximately 2001), a strange phenomenon has been creating news in the waterways around the world.

Meeting point: A ship sails across the junction of the polluted Yangtze River (left) and the Jialin River in Chongqing, China

In the thick of it: A fisherman goes about his daily business

Rivers, lakes, seas and even rain are turning red in colour. Some of these river colour changes have taken place overnight turning large areas of water bodies blood red.

Waters Turning Red in Nootdorp - Blue Heron - The Netherlands. This canal in South Holland turned blood red overnight and is a mystery to local authorities. The local water department has taken samples and is quickly trying to determine what this is.

Sea of Azov turned bloody red

The Beirut River mysteriously turned blood red Wednesday after a stream of unidentified red liquid began pouring from the southern bank of the river in Furn al-Shubbak. The source of the liquid had yet to be determined Wednesday evening, as the river continued to empty the red-coloured water into the Mediterranean Sea.

Government and local officials rushed to the scene at the Chevrolet crossing of Furn al-Shubbak Wednesday morning in an attempt to locate the sewage canal that was dumping the red-coloured water but they were unable to locate the source. Accusations were traded among officials from the municipalities of Hadath, Hazmieh, Sin al-Fil, Furn al-Shubbak and Shiyah.

Eyewitnesses working in the area said this was not the first time the river had turned a different colour. Several business owners around the Chevrolet crossing said that coloured water pours into the river roughly every two months but no one pays attention to it.It was the quantity and brightness of the red liquid that grabbed the attention of many passersby and commuters on different bridges in the city Wednesday.

Views from scientists about this phenomenon are inconclusive and cannot explain every occurrence of the phenomenon. There are various theories being examined such as;
  1. Red Algae bloom
  2. Pollution
  3. The high concentration of salt in the form of salt flats, turning the normally blue water into a deep crimson shade.
  4. Climate change – ocean acidification
Some people are of the opinion that this phenomenon is a warning of the times to come, a period of tribulation or Armageddon.

As strange as this phenomenon is, it seems that rivers, lakes and seas turning red is spreading to more and more bodies of water around the world.

Fish and birds are dying by the thousands in such red bodies of water, due to this phenomenon.
Sometimes referred to as a “red tide”, these events usually occur in estuaries and along the coastlines, although they can also occur in fresh water.

The following table is of the water bodies turning red;
