Stopping the Devil at Your Heart’s Door
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

One of the great tragedies of the Church in this generation, and one of God’s greatest griefs, is that so many Christians are not truly happy. They put on a good front — singing, clapping, smiling and praising. But lurking just beneath the surface is loneliness and deep misery.

These Christians are hot, then suddenly cold. They cannot cope with fear, and depression runs over them like a steamroller. One week they are high, the next week low. Many times their marriages follow that pattern as well. One day all is well between a husband and wife, and the next day they are miserable. Some days they cannot even talk to one another. They explain, “Well, that’s just the way marriage is supposed to be. You can’t expect to stay happy and loving all the time.”

Believers caught in this up-and-down cycle should heed the words of Paul to Timothy. He encouraged the young man to help others come to their senses and “escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will” (2 Timothy 2:26), or, as the King James Version puts it, “taken captive by him at his will.” This describes many believers perfectly: Because they give him access, Satan moves in and out of their lives at his own will. They exercise no authority to stop the devil at their heart’s door and he flaunts his hold of them. “You have no power of Christ in you to stop me,” Satan says. “You are my captive and will do as I wish.”

This lack of victory in Christ is appalling! Jesus did not die so that you continue to live under the power of Satan after you have given your heart to him. Be careful not get caught in this trap. Instead, set your heart on firmly walking with God and claiming his promises. Determine to seek him with all your might and he will fill your heart with true, lasting joy.

How Do We Develop Trust in God?
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

To enter into God’s rest, we must renounce our own efforts. Faith alone admits us into this perfect rest: “For we who have believed do enter that rest” (Hebrews 4:3). Simply put, we are to set our hearts to believe that God is faithful to deliver us in every circumstance, no matter how impossible it may seem.

“For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His” (4:10). When we are at rest in Christ, we no longer try to put on a brave face in times of trouble. We don’t pump up some phony acceptance of our crisis and we don’t worry that we might cave in to fear and begin questioning God’s love. In short, our “works mentality” ceases and we simply trust the Lord.

How do we develop such trust? We seek the Lord in prayer, meditate on his Word, and walk in obedience. You may object, “But these are all works.” I disagree. They are all acts of faith. As we observe these disciplines, we are trusting that the Holy Spirit is at work in us, building up a reservoir of strength for our time of need. We may not feel God’s strengthening going on inside us, or feel his power being built up in us. But when our next trial comes, these heavenly resources will become manifest in us. In fact, this is the foremost reason I seek the Lord diligently — fasting, praying, studying, looking to obey his commandments through the power of the Holy Spirit.

As long as you are serving the Lord, the devil will never give you rest. You will face intense warfare, surprise attacks, and in spite of all your past victories, you will always need heaven’s resources to help you endure.

Determine to be a soldier who is fully prepared for the battlefield. When the enemy suddenly comes at you, you are going to need all available ammunition. You will want to have reserves to draw on; you will have won the battle on your knees before God, prior to the conflict.

The Secret and Surprising Ways Christians Worship in North Korea
October 25, 2018 by Lindy Lowry in Asia, Stories of Persecution

When Lee Joo-Chan was young, he knew his parents were different. Everybody called them “Communist parents” because they took care of the sick, the poor and the needy. He also remembers seeing his parents read from a secret book at night. He knows now it was part of their worship.

“They would whisper the words, and I knew it was their source of wisdom. I also knew that if I ever talked about this to someone else, our family would be taken away.”

Thirty years later in China, Lee would finally discover his family’s secret faith. Now a pastor in South Korea, Lee is incredibly thankful for his courageous parents who risked their lives to worship and follow Jesus–and tell their son about their faith.

His parents are not alone in their boldness.

Today, hundreds of thousands of Christians in North Korea’s underground church estimated at 300,000, also find secret ways to worship Jesus and follow Him. In fact, because of the hardships and oppression they face, these believers often seek God intensely and risk their lives to worship Jesus—not unlike the early church that drew an ichthys in the ground with their feet as a symbol of their faith and secretly met together in catacombs.

In North Korea, there are also several kinds of underground church communities.

The casual meeting

An Open Doors field rep explains: “You see someone outside, you know that other person is a brother, you look at each other. That’s all. That’s your entire service.”

Home gatherings

Typically, this kind of church is hosted by a family who have one or more children. The family’s house is rarely, if ever, ideal for public gatherings. It usually has just one bedroom and a small living room. And, even if a group of people can cram into the small space, they must be vigilant about keeping the noise down. Neighbors easily pick up when something is going on as houses in North Korea are built close together and the walls of the structures are often thin.”

It’s best when these families live near the woods so they can hide their copy of the Bible if they have one. Our field rep describes what worship is like for a local believer, not unlike Lee Joo-Chan remembers: “It’s after midnight. The two youngest children are sleeping. You sneak out, dig up your Bible and bring it back inside. The curtains are pulled and very, very softly do you read to your wife and 16-year-old son. You’ve only recently shared the gospel with him. Now he’s old enough and wise enough not to accidentally betray you. Of course, he didn’t understand the gospel at first, but you’re teaching him. You’ve been praying for years that he’d be ready.”

“You read the Bible in the dark, you pray, the words are hardly audible. Do you sing in whispers? When you’re in a bold mood.”

Prison camps

Believe it or not, North Korean Christians find ways to worship in the country’s notorious prison camps. There, a believer may be locked up with 40 others prisoners in a confined, uncomfortable space. There are usually wooden floors with many cracks that fill the room with ice-cold air in the winter and sweltering hot air in the summer. Lice and bugs get in too. But, our field rep says, there’s often “one brave Christian who shares the gospel with others and prays, knowing that she will be punished for that.”

In one of the darkest places on earth, North Korean prison camp survivor Hea-Woo chose to do something so radical, and so dangerous, but so Christlike. In the prison, God gave her a heart to tell her fellow prisoners about Jesus. And so, right there in the middle of a North Korean labor camp, a secret fellowship church began. Hea Woo recalls how God used her:

“The Bible verses that I’d recall from memory gave the others hope. They also saw the Spirit at work in me. I stood out among the other prisoners because I helped them. Sometimes I shared my rice with the sick. Occasionally, I washed their clothes, too.

“God used me to lead five people to faith. I tried to teach them the little I knew about Jesus. I didn’t have access to a Bible in the camp. But on Sundays and at Christmas, we met together out of the view of the guards. Usually, that was in the toilet. There we held a short service. I taught them the Bible verses and songs that I knew. We sang almost inaudibly so that no one would hear us.”

In all three of these types of worship gatherings, our field rep assures us there are people “risking their lives to distribute aid and support to and inside North Korea.”

“God has called us to do this work. The North Korean Christians are far more dedicated than us. In a sense, they are spiritually much stronger than we are. There are so many unknown heroes in North Korea, and they are able to withstand torture.”

Praying With North Korea’s Secret Worshipers

Father, we come to You now, interceding for our brothers and sisters in North Korea. We thank you for these secret worshipers and their boldness to follow You in in the face of persecution few of us can fathom. We ask that You would protect them as they find ways to worship You and catch glimpses that they’re not alone. Give them the prudent courage to read and speak Scripture and the discernment for when to be silent.

We pray for those who can only look at someone and know that they follow Christ like they do. We pray for these secret house gatherings and ask that You would give them beautiful moments together, that they would find both joy and solace in Your Scripture. Give believers supernatural ability to memorize Your Word and impart it.

And God, we pray now with the Christian prisoners, that they would find each other and be able to discreetly gather to hear Your Word, and that they would find ways to minister to those prisoners who don’t know You–drawing their cellmates to You. We ask right now, Father, that You would raise up the next generation of Hea Woos both inside and outside prison walls.

And finally, Lord, we plead for the freedom of our persecuted family in North Korea–that they would one day be able to read Your Word and gather freely to worship without fear.

In Your Son’s name, we ask these things… Amen.

God is Available All the Time
Gary Wilkerson

Jesus sits at the right hand of God and “He is always living to make petition to God and to intercede with Him” (Hebrews 7:25). Isaiah 56:7 says, “There is joy for him in the house of prayer.”

Let me ask you some personal questions:
  • Are you following Jesus into the house of prayer?
  • Are you following him into a “usual” place where you pray?
  • Do you pray regularly?
  • Do you pray daily for your spouse and your children? Jesus says to his disciples, “Pray that you don’t fall into temptation” (Luke 22:46).

Fathers, do you pray for your children that they don’t fall into temptation? Wives, do you pray for your husbands, that God’s hand will be upon him? Children, young people, teenagers, are you seeking the Lord’s face so that you won’t be swayed by the temptations of the world? Single persons, do you take some of the time in your busy days and schedule a “usual” time when you cry out to God?

Jesus’ own life was a model of what he wanted to see established in his disciples (and this means us, because we are his disciples). If we are honest, many of us must admit that we don’t have “usual” times of prayer. Sometimes we may go days without a consistent time and place of prayer where we can openly and transparently commune with God away from the distractions of the world.

The lover of your soul covets time alone with you. He wants you to praise and exalt him — day in and day out. Unless you schedule significant time to be alone with God, the busyness of life will keep you from meeting with him. God doesn’t care what time of day you meet with Him — after all, he is available all the time! Make this time a priority because it will be the most important time in your life. Make a commitment to the Father and then say “no” to everything else.
Don't close your door to prayer......

Jesus, the Source of All Joy
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Isaiah 16:6 vividly describes what happens to a proud nation that falls under God’s judgment: “We have heard of the pride of Moab … of his haughtiness and his pride and his wrath; but his lies shall not be so.” Throughout Scripture, the nation of Moab serves as a symbol representing all self-reliant people who turn their backs on God and fall under his judgment.

In biblical times, harvest was always a time of great celebration, yet after judgment fell on Moab, there were no shouts of “Harvest!” ringing through the streets. Any trace of joy in Moab became a thing of the past and a cloud of sadness and grief hung over the society.

Let’s consider the landscape in America today. What do you see and hear? Our proud, haughty nation has fallen under God’s divine wrath and there is a great deal of fear. When destruction hit the Twin Towers in New York City, the cry was, “This is going to change our nation forever,” and that was true. The innocence, joy and gladness that many Americans once knew are gone forever and will never be recaptured.

What we need to know is that Jesus Christ alone is the source of all joy. The Psalmist says of him, “God … has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions” (45:7). The oil mentioned in this psalm represents the Holy Spirit. The writer is saying, “Only those who press in to a closer walk with Jesus will obtain the joy of his Spirit.”

We who know Christ’s righteousness are not to live as those who are without hope. We have been blessed with both the love and the fear of God and he is saying to us, “The ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with singing” (Isaiah 51:11). In other words, “I’m going to have a people who return to me with trust, faith and confidence. They’ll take their eyes off their conditions and the calamities surrounding them and get back their song of joy.”

Spoiling the Entire Batch
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Ole such a beautiful passage of scripture by the Apostle Paul.

“May the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever” (Hebrews 13:20-21).

What a joy to be around people who have about them the aroma of having been with Jesus and are living this kind of Christ-life. Like Paul, these saints have a longing to be in the presence of Christ. They possess a hunger to obtain more and more intimacy with him and they exude his love and holiness.

Such people thoroughly enjoy life but they also avoid all foolish conversation. They live wholly separated from the things of this world and God’s favor is evident in their lives and their families. Some may be poor in material things but their lives are fully blessed by the Lord.

Don’t get me wrong; these believers go through seasons of severe trials and testing but, like Paul, although they may be cast down, they are not destroyed. And they never quit! They are determined to finish their walk of faith and ministry in a way that is pleasing to God.

But Satan is determined to put things in your life that hinder your entering into the abundance of Christ’s blessing. Paul recognized this and said to the Galatians, “You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump” (Galatians 5:7-9). In other words, “What is in your life that keeps you from going on in the full blessing of Christ?”

This is a good warning for us today. Many Christians who once were mightily used of God have allowed something to creep into their lives and they have made peace with that compromise. Be careful that you do not allow a single sin to serve as a little leaven that spoils the entire batch.

What Does Your Heart Long For?
Gary Wilkerson

The heart of God was greatly pleased when Moses said to him, “Please, show me Your glory” (Exodus 33:18). Every earthly parent knows the constant pleading of children’s voices asking for things, but nothing warms the parent’s heart like hearing a child say, “I love you!”

When Moses voiced his desire, God readily granted his request, as far as he could allow it. “He said, ‘You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live” (33:20). God’s unapproachable light is too fierce for humans to experience fully; his holiness is all consuming, but he did want Moses to experience his glory in part. The Lord told him, in effect, “I can’t show you my face but I can show you the effects of my presence and the trail of goodness I leave behind” (see 33:21-23).

In order to protect Moses, God said, “So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock … while I pass by” (33:22). This verse tells us everything about God’s amazing grace in the Old Testament. Even before the cross — before Christ shed his blood for our salvation — God hid Moses in his grace “in the cleft of the rock.” As Paul explains, “That Rock was Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:4).

Scripture says Moses’ face was transformed by God’s glory — a change so powerful he had to “put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome” (2 Corinthians 3:13). Today we don’t have to hide in a crevice as Moses did; God’s glory has been revealed fully in Jesus and anyone who encounters him experiences the same transformation — a change so profound the whole world sees it and is awed.

What does your heart long for? You may be blessed with many earthly blessings, but there is much more to know of our great God. I urge you to ask God to show you his glory, which is readily available to you.

Why Do Those Forgiven Mistreat Their Brothers?
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

“If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:15-16). Jesus forgave us out of his goodness and mercy and, likewise, he says we are to be loving and merciful toward our brothers and sisters.

Paul refers to Jesus’ command, saying, “Even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do” (Colossians 3:13). He then expounds on how we pursue obedience to this command: “Put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another; if anyone has a complaint against another … above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection” (3:12-14).

What does it mean to “bear with one another” or, as it reads in the King James Version, to be “forbearing”? The Greek word means “to put up with, to tolerate.” This suggests enduring things we don’t like. We are being told to tolerate the failures of others, to put up with ways we do not understand.

At an overseas conference where I was scheduled to speak, several prominent ministers warned me against cooperating with a particular minister, claiming he was into bizarre worship and other things they considered foolish. Yet, when I met that pastor, I saw Christ in him; he was a kind, loving, gentle man of prayer. I realized that these ministers refused to “bear with” a brother in Christ merely because they had differences in style.

Why do servants of God, who have been forgiven so much personally, mistreat their brethren and refuse to fellowship with them? I believe it can be traced back to a struggle to understand and accept God’s mercy and goodness, a trap all of us can fall into if we are not careful. We must diligently seek to trust the Lord for patience, mercy and love toward others.

They are such brave and long suffering people.

One day that evil tyrant that controls them will have to pay the price for what he has / and continues to do to them. & No amount of the money he has stolen from his people, will help him.

Thank you for posting this Tarfoot. So very sad that the
North Korean people will never be able to read your post.

Watch Out!

Read Titus 1:1-16

6An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife, and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious. 7For an elder must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money. 8Rather, he must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must love what is good. He must live wisely and be just. He must live a devout and disciplined life. 9He must have a strong belief in the trustworthy message he was taught; then he will be able to encourage others with wholesome teaching and show those who oppose it where they are wrong.
Titus 1:6-9

Phonies are not always easy to spot. Some look so real that they could fool the most suspicious and skeptical people. Phony people may even believe their own scams.

In this reading, Paul urges Titus to warn the Christians on Crete to beware of phonies. These false teachers are not concerned with truth. As you read, think of how you can determine truth from error, what is real from what is false.

In this chapter, Paul also outlines what is required of spiritual leaders, and he reminds Titus that God always tells the truth.

Paul warned Titus about people who teach wrong doctrines (Titus 1:10-14). He told this protégé and young pastor to be harsh with these false teachers because they teach from evil motives and lead people away from Christ. Some false teachers simply have misguided opinions or a poor understanding of the Bible. Others try to deceive—they pretend to be sincere while hiding their cravings for money or influence over others. Jesus and the apostles repeatedly warned against such false teachers (see Mark 13:22; Acts 20:29; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12; 2 Peter 3:3-7).

Many people think that false teaching about God makes little difference. But believing falsehoods about God, Christ, or salvation can be more fatal to your faith than drinking poison. False teachings about eternal life meddle with people’s eternal destiny.

Be on guard against false spiritual teachers, and be careful of any person who claims to have spiritual truth. False teachers betray their motives by pointing people away from the Bible and toward other ideas. Test all teachings by comparing them to God’s Word before letting someone teach and lead you.

Obtaining the Blessing of God
Jim Cymbala

One of the important secrets to obtaining the blessing of God is giving! When Moses was giving his final instructions and farewell address to the Israelites, he gave specific instructions about something called “the third-year tithe.” Unlike the regular tithe, or ten percent annual offering, the third-year tithe was reserved for a different purpose.

“At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands” (Deuteronomy 14:28-29).

It is important to see what God was doing here. Every third year, the towns of Israel became huge storage centers for the tithes of this agricultural nation. Because the priests from the tribe of Levi were not allowed to own land, God insisted that the people provide for them in a special way. But that was not all. This tithe was also earmarked for the vulnerable and underprivileged among them.

What a marvelous, compassionate God we serve. He always has a special place in his heart for the weak, brokenhearted and rejected among his people. Compassion and concern for the downtrodden is rooted in the very heart of our Creator.

However, there was even more to the third-year tithe than supplying for the priests and the needy. Israel was to give generously “so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.” It seems that the act of joyfully giving to others actually opened up the windows of heaven so that the people themselves could be blessed.

God still wants to do extraordinary things for his followers who imitate him in compassionate giving. This is a profound truth that we would do well to apply to our daily living.

What Happens When Unbelief Sets In?
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

“Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness, where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest’” (Hebrews 3:8-11).

What reason is given for why God’s people were not able to enter his rest? Was it because of adultery, covetousness, drunkenness? No, it was because of unbelief alone. Here was a nation exposed to forty years of miracles, supernatural wonders that God worked on their behalf. In fact, no other people on earth had been so loved, so tenderly cared for.

They received revelation after revelation about the goodness of the Lord. They heard a fresh word preached regularly from Moses, their prophet leader, and yet, they never mixed that word with faith. Therefore, hearing it did them no good. In the midst of all those blessings, they still did not trust God to be faithful, and over time, unbelief set in.

Beloved, unbelief is the root cause behind all hardness of heart. The Scripture goes on, “Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?” (Hebrews 3:17). The people’s unbelief kindled God’s anger against them; moreover, it hardened them into a continual spiral of unbelief: “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God … lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin” (3:12-13).

Unbelief is also the root of all bitterness, rebellion and coldness. That is why Hebrews 3 is addressed to believers. You can be saved, Spirit-filled, and walking holy before God and still be guilty of unbelief. It is so important that we accept his supernatural power by faith and say with confidence, “Do it again, Lord. And let your strength be made perfect in my weakness.”

Desiring the Renewal of the Holy Spirit
Gary Wilkerson

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14).

You might wonder why you feel so dull in your spirit. Or why you don’t have power to witness as you would like. Or why your prayers seem so weak. It could possibly be because there is too much of the world, the residue of the flesh and carnality, functioning within you.

You may be listening to the wrong kind of music or watching unwholesome material on TV or online. And what about the people you associate with? Are they challenging you to be more like Jesus or are they carnal, pleasure-seeking companions who lead you away from him?

“Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord” (6:17). Be separate from what? From fellowship with things that are not pure and holy, things that are untrue and unloving and cause divisions. Things that cause separation between you and others and diminish your faith and your love and your prayer life.

Actually, God may have already spoken to your heart about what some of those things are and he is saying, “Get rid of them. Take the time to remove those from your life. Be separate from them!” And when you do this, his Spirit will renew you. God’s grace will encompass you and enable you to declare that the defilements in you are a thing of the past. The defeat from the evil one that tries to diminish your faith, your strength, your power, is a thing of the past!

God is not asking us to step out of certain things because he is some kind of moral cop trying to make sure you do exactly as he says. No, it is because he is a father who loves you and delights in your goodness. And he delights in your living a glorious, precious, wonder-filled life.

The Sorrow of a Heart that Wavers
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

You may have had a situation you were praying about but you didn’t seem to get an answer. You may say, “I prayed in faith, believing God, but he didn’t hear me. I waited and waited, but he never answered. How can I surrender my life to God if he doesn’t answer my prayers?”

You may not be angry with God but you have certainly lost confidence, which keeps you from committing your heart to him fully. Therefore, you have stopped prayer and you don’t enjoy the fullness of his blessings anymore.

James addresses this situation very clearly: “He who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind” (James 1:6). The King James Version uses the word “waver,” which means to be undecided. In their hearts, when the people made their requests, they put God on trial. In their hearts, they said, “Lord, if you answer me, I’ll serve you. I’ll give you everything! But if you don’t answer, I’ll live my life my way.”

God will not be bribed. He knows our hearts and he knows when we are undecided in our commitment to his Son. He reserves the power that is in Christ for those who have surrendered to him wholly.

True faith considers all the problems and pain of God’s people worldwide, all hopeless situations, and puts these sorrowful things on a scale on one side. Faith then puts Christ on the other side of the scale and rejoices when Christ overwhelms all the sins and afflictions of the world.

God never intended for us to let the devil overtake our hearts and homes. Rather, he intends for us to make a declaration that is loud and clear. We are to take our position in Christ and cry, “In the name of Jesus Christ!”

It is time for every believer to stand up and declare, “I’ve lived with fear long enough and in the name of Jesus Christ, I will no longer fear death, man or the devil.”

A Call to Set Our Hearts on God
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Jeremiah the prophet was a man who set his heart to seek the Lord, and the Word of God came to him. Over and over we read of the prophet, “The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.”

Many commentators call Jeremiah the weeping prophet, and that was certainly true of him. But he also brought us the happiest, most praiseworthy gospel in all the Old Testament. After all, he foretold the coming glory of the New Covenant: “I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good” (Jeremiah 32:40). “I will satiate the soul of the priests with abundance, and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the Lord” (31:14).

Now, that’s good news! The New Covenant is full of mercy, grace, joy, peace and goodness. But, the history behind each of Jeremiah’s words here includes a deep brokenness.

Jeremiah wrote, “O my soul, my soul! I am pained in my very heart! My heart makes a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because you have heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war” (4:19).

Jeremiah was weeping with holy tears that were not his own. Indeed, the prophet actually heard God speak of his own broken heart. First, the Lord warned Jeremiah that he was going to send judgment on Israel. Then he told the prophet, “I will take up a weeping and wailing for the mountains, and for the dwelling places of the wilderness a lamentation” (9:10). The word for “lamentation” here means weeping. God himself was weeping over the judgment to come upon his people.

The Lord shares with us his very mind and thoughts. We are living in life-and-death times right now and I urge you to set your heart to seek God with all diligence and determination. Then go to his Word with ever-increasing love and desire. He will be faithful to his Word and guide you into all that he wants to reveal to you.

Accomplishing Your Highest Purpose
Gary Wilkerson

“But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you” (Acts 26:16).

“Paul, called by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus … to the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:1-2).

These two verses exemplify the great purpose God had for Paul when he first appeared to him on the road to Damascus. The first thing Jesus does when he is about to change our life is appear to us. Maybe not in physical form, but he begins to make all the difference in the world and turn our world upside down. After telling us to “rise and stand on our feet,” he starts to reveal to us his new purpose.

There is a period of time that we are given to be on Earth (see Hebrews 9:27), but we are not saved just to get to heaven when we die. No, God has a purpose for each of us. Jesus gave Paul a specific purpose in his life and we see in Acts 26:16 that is was to be “a servant and witness.”

As a Christian, you are called to serve and to be a witness of Jesus Christ to those around you. What has God done for you? What have you seen God do for others?

At another time Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples …and, behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19). Because you are a servant of Christ, he is always with you, equipping you to be a witness to those you encounter. That is your highest purpose!

There is Healing in Your Tears
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Are you in a frightening place right now? Do you feel hopeless, empty, stripped to nothing? I say to you, your trial will pass but what does God expect of you now, in the midst of it?

Perhaps you are grieving, anguishing over a struggle that doesn’t seem to end. You’re bowed low, more discouraged than you have ever been. Your friends may tell you, “Don’t cry and mourn. That’s not showing faith.” But the truth is, if you have faith, you are able to cry. You can’t avoid your pain; in fact, there is healing power in your tears. Your mourning has nothing to do with whether you trust in God’s Word.

At times, you may wonder, “Lord, what did I do wrong? Is this your judgment on me?” You may even feel like confronting him, crying, “Why did you let this happen?” I tell you, God gives you time for those questions. He allows your flesh to have its tantrums.

Finally, the Lord comes to you and says, “You’ve had a right to all your feelings, but you have no reason to accuse me or doubt me. I’ve given you a promise. Indeed, I’ve given you everything you need. You are to lay hold of that promise now. If you do, my Word will become life to you and bring healing that is greater than any medicine, more powerful than any river of tears.”

Throughout the Bible, we find godly men and women who have gone through deep tremblings of soul and spirit. Over and over, the Psalmist asks, “Why are you cast down, O my soul?” (Psalm 42:5). Also in 43:6 and 11 and Psalm 43:5, we see a similar sentiment.

The Lord understands your times of confusion and doubt and he is waiting for you to look to him and trust him. “You’ve cried it all out and now I want you to trust me. Go back to my Word and I will see you through.” Trust his promises and allow him to become the joy of your life.

The Impact of Faithful Servants
Gary Wilkerson

John the Baptist was called to prepare the way for Jesus. He did not take an individual person and tell him he had to stop doing one thing and start doing something else. No, he proclaimed that Jesus was coming for a people who were committed to the cause of Christ, a people who would surrender absolutely to him.

The Lord spoke to Zacharias regarding John, “And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous — to make ready a people prepared for the Lord” (Luke 1:17, NIV).

Jesus was coming for a people prepared — not a building or a program or even a movement. God wants a body of believers who are truly devoted to the things that bring us together — faithful servants who are filled with the Holy Spirit and the power of Elijah.

We read again of Elijah in James: “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit” (James 5:17-18).

The Word of God says that Elijah was a man just like us, yet he did things that were way out of the ordinary. But we read further in James: “My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins” (5:19-20).

Having faith to stop the rain or pray rain down, as Elijah did, is powerful, indeed. But saving someone from death is even more wonderful and, according to James, Jesus has given all, that’s you and I, who walk with him the power and authority to do just that.

This is my fervent prayer, that I can help lead someone back to Jesus Christ and His Word.

The Reward of Perseverance
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Any discussion on sufferings and trials must begin with the most despairing believer of all time — a righteous, faithful, God-fearing servant, devoted to prayer and worship. Yet, when sorrow and trouble overwhelmed his life, this same man began to make some very disparaging remarks about God at the height of his suffering. “If I called and He answered me, I would not believe that He was listening to my voice. For He crushes me with a tempest, and multiplies my wounds without cause” (Job 9:16-17).

Job lost everything dear to him: his family, his health, his possessions, even his hope. The statement about God in the passage above is just one of many this poor man made as his awful pains were multiplied.

Our nation is hurtling swiftly into a period of trouble, a time such as the world has never seen. Even now, many devoted believers are experiencing hardships that their previous experiences have not prepared them for. Christians are seeing their marriages tested; some are having their health deteriorate; others are suffering financial hardship; and young people are lost in the insanity of the hour.

In the days ahead, we cannot allow our hope to rest in some pipe dream, believing that Christians will be immune from suffering. However, we can be assured that our heavenly Father will be faithful to keep us through all our afflictions and then deliver us, just as he did with Job.

“You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord — that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful” (James 5:11).

Job persevered and God restored to him all that he had lost and more. Likewise, when you come through your trial, you will possess a true heart-knowledge that God is in control of your life. Then you will be able to testify of God’s goodness, just as Job did when he said confidently, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him” (Job 13:15).

The Peace of God in Fearful Times
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Consider one of the most powerful promises in all of God’s Word: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn. The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge … He make wars cease” (Psalm 46:1-7, 9). Amen

God’s Word is so powerful, so immovable, that he tells us, “You will never need to fear. It does not matter if the whole world is in turmoil. The earth may quake and cause mountains to crumble and oceans to swell. Things may be in complete chaos but because of my Word, you will have peace like a river.”

Even now, as our world is in a fearful time and many are experiencing personal troubles and suffering, Psalm 46 echoes to God’s people: “I am with you through it all. My people will not be destroyed or moved.”

Try to grasp what the Lord is telling us in this psalm. Our God is available to us at any time, day or night. He is at our right hand, willing to speak to us and guide us, and he made this a possibility by giving us his Holy Spirit to abide in us.

Peter writes, “By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). Supernatural peace is a part of God’s divine nature and is available to all who are obedient to his Word.

They may destroy my physical body but never my soul because I stand with my Lord and Savior.

Encouragement for Those Blindsided by the Devil
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

In Isaiah 51, the Lord delivers a powerful message to all who pursue righteousness. He declares, “Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, you who seek the Lord” (51:1). A few verses later, he again calls to those “who know righteousness, you people in whose heart is My law” (51:7). When Isaiah delivered this message, his immediate audience was Israel, yet God directs this call to every devoted believer today — everyone who would pursue Jesus with a greater passion. Later God addresses his hearers as “you afflicted, and drunk but not with wine” (51:21).

At the time Isaiah prophesied, Israel was enslaved by Babylon and God wanted his precious people to know he recognized their plight. Likewise, today, he is addressing every Christian who has become captive to some form of bondage. This bondage may be mental, physical or spiritual — it does not matter to God. His eye is on every saint who staggers under the weight of an awful burden and he gives them this word:

“Do not think for a moment that this weight has come upon you as a result of sin. On the contrary, you are under a direct attack from Satan. The enemy of your soul has accused and tormented you and now, like a person who is drunk on wine, you are woozy from the effect. You have been blindsided by the devil but I want your ear because I have a word to speak to you.”

If you are enduring a dark night of the soul, weighed down by sinful chains or sitting on an ash heap of perceived failure, God has a message just for you: “See, I have taken out of your hand the cup of trembling … But I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you” (51:22-23).

The Lord is saying, “I am here to plead your cause, to intervene for you. I will take from you the cup of fear that is plaguing your life and place it in the hands of those who oppress you. I will not allow this harassment to continue.”

God will take your fears and troubles from you if you are willing to hand them to Him. Release your fears and troubles to Him and trust in His care.

Sold Out for Jesus
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

The Lord told Peter, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me” (Matthew 16:24).

Clearly, belonging to Jesus’ church means more than merely believing in him. Many Christians today “cast a vote for Jesus,” but then they walk away and forget all about his lordship over their lives. Our Lord makes it clear that belonging to him involves living a life of self-denial and taking up a cross. “He who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me” (Matthew 10:38).

Jesus is saying, “If you are in my church, then be prepared to be persecuted and ridiculed if you hunger and thirst after me. And be prepared to deny yourself all fame, acceptance and worldly pleasure-seeking.” The fact is, Christ’s church has never been accepted by the world and it never will be. People will be uncomfortable around you and want to separate from your company. “Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you … for the Son of Man’s sake” (Luke 6:22).

Jesus shows us the path that leads to true fulfillment: “Whoever loses his life for My sake will find it” (Matthew 16:25). In other words, the only way you will find meaning in life is to be sold out for Jesus. Then you will find true joy, peace and satisfaction. Christ tells us, “When you come to me, you must die to self, to all ungodly ambition and ego. By faith you will be buried with me, but I will raise you up into new life!”

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). Only the words of Jesus can produce life and we must consume them as we would food and drink — by daily reading the Word of God and spending time in his presence.
AMEN

Driving Out Unbelief
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

We are living in a time of the greatest gospel revelation in history. There are more preachers, more books, more gospel-media saturation than at any time in history. Yet there has never been more distress, affliction and confusion among God’s people. Pastors today design their sermons just to pick people up and help them deal with despair. They preach on God’s love and patience, reminding us that he understands our times of discouragement. We are told, “Just hold on. Be encouraged. Even Jesus felt forsaken by his Father.”

There’s nothing wrong with this. Yet there is still just one reason why we see so little victory and deliverance: it is unbelief. The fact is, God has spoken with clarity in these last days: “I have already given you the Word. It is finished — so now, stand on it.

There are those who say we are experiencing a famine of God’s Word today but the truth is, we are experiencing a famine of hearing God’s Word and obeying it. Why? Because faith never comes to us by logic or reason. Paul states plainly, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). The only way true faith will ever rise up in any believer’s heart is by hearing — that is, believing, trusting, and acting on — God’s Word. (Holy Bible, my personal preference is the KJV but the NIV is a little easier to understand.)

Are you discouraged? The Lord says, “I give you my Word.”
  • “For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You … You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye” (Psalm 32:6-8).
  • “The eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy” (Psalm 33:18).
  • “This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles” (Psalm 34:6).
In just three psalms we are given enough of God’s Word to drive out all unbelief. I urge you now: hear it, trust it, obey it. And, finally, rest in it.

Am I Listening to Men or God?
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

The apostle John was given a revelation of the glory of the exalted Christ: “A door [was] standing open in heaven. And the first voice … [said], ‘Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.’ Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne” (Revelation 4:1-2).

A door to heaven has been opened to us today, as well. Like John, we have been called to “come up here.” Scripture says, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). This call to come to the throne room has been most ignored by pastors and laypersons alike. Few believers truly know God’s voice and few ministers speak as his oracles.

John’s time of isolation on the island of Patmos (see Revelation 1:9) was imposed on him by godless men. I believe people in the church need to have a “Patmos” experience — a self-imposed setting aside of one’s self for the purpose of seeking the face of God. Christians today make time to watch television, shop or surf the Internet, communicate with others on social media, but few ever “come up” to God’s throne. Yet the Lord promises, “If you come up here, I’ll reveal to you my mercy and grace and show you things you have never seen before.”

This does not mean we give up our job, our family, our witness. In fact, it is entirely possible to be a busy person and still have a Patmos experience. What matters is that we shut out every voice, activity and thing that hinders us from hearing the voice of the Lord. We are to concern ourselves with one focus: Am I listening to men or to the Holy Spirit?

The Lord is pleased whenever you willingly submit yourself to a time alone with him. Once Christ becomes your sole focus, you will be able to receive discernment and guidance directly from above.

Gospel Relationship
Gary Wilkerson

I love the words of an old hymn we used to sing, “What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer” (Joseph M. Scriven). “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24).

God extended the fullness of his love to us through the gift of his Son: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). And because of his great love for us, we are enabled to reach out to others in loving ways.

We all want someone in our life who shares our values and standards, a friend who will be loyal and love us in spite of our weaknesses. We read of such a friendship in 1 Samuel 18:1, 3-4: “The soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul … Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt.”

These verses represent the love that Jesus has for us — an unmerited, supernatural love, a love that sees beyond our weaknesses and is always supportive and encouraging. It is called the agape love of God and is above human understanding. The type of loving friendship that Jonathan and David shared — I call it gospel relationship — can come only through the power of Jesus Christ.

As you freely receive this gift of love from Jesus, ask him to enable you to be a godly friend who encourages spiritual growth in someone else — truly “a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Resisting Laziness
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

As the World sinks deeper into godlessness, more and more of God’s people want to go their own way. Such people do not want to be clothed by Christ in garments of righteousness; they only want to live to themselves, with no obligations or commitments. By their attitudes, they are telling the Lord, “Let me enjoy my association with you just so others will see me as good.”

Churches in America and around the world are filled with millions of people calling themselves Christians who have no intimacy with Jesus. They spend no time in prayer and do not pick up their Bibles to see what he desires of them.

Somehow, these people have attached themselves to Christ’s name wholly on their own. Our Lord will have no part of such an arrangement. Christ clearly warns in Mark: “Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming — in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning — lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:35-37).

We read the parable of the ten virgins, five wise and five foolish (see Matthew 25:1-13). “While the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept” (Matthew 25:5). All the virgins, both foolish and wise, were asleep. How could these wise virgins be slumbering? How could any godly servant, those who have prepared for Jesus’ return for so long, be asleep as the Lord approaches?

Let’s look at a warning by Paul: “Now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed” (Romans 13:11). Paul also warns, “‘Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.’ See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:14-16).

If you feel that you have grown lazy in your pursuit of Jesus, determine to seek after him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. Begin to pray throughout the day and make Christ the center of your thought life.

Escaping the Grasp of Loneliness
Nicky Cruz

Can a Christian really be lonely? The noted evangelist Billy Graham once said that through his many years of contact with people all over the world, in his opinion, loneliness is the greatest problem facing mankind. Theoretically we never should be lonely because Jesus Christ, the Friend above all friends, said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). He is living within us and we have resources to draw upon that non-Christians know nothing about.

Second, we have a family identity, since we have been “born again” into the family of God and are his children with brothers and sisters in Christ. Yet, Christians do struggle with feeling alone. In my own quest to escape loneliness, I have acquired a few important ground rules that I work at continually:
  1. Instead of searching for people whom you can trust, focus entirely on God, who alone is trustworthy. In doing so, you stop expecting more from human beings than they can supply.
  2. Take time daily to be alone with God, regardless of pressures or schedules. Pray about every problem, whether large or small. The Bible says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs, and don’t forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
  3. Learn to say no. If you have a tendency to be a “workaholic” (meaning that your only pleasure in life is your work), admit it and begin to deal with it. Rid your life of nonessential activities that rob you of time with God, time with family, involvement in church, and necessary recreation.
  4. Instead of constantly dwelling on your own problems, reach out to someone else in simple friendship. You may receive something far greater than what you give.
Even though you may still become lonely, Jesus is the source of all you need. AMEN

“I Want to Know Their God”
Gary Wilkerson
December 24, 2018

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

When the prophecy of Christ’s birth was fulfilled, King Herod, the ruler of Israel, was threatened, as was everyone in Jerusalem (Matthew 2:1-3). Apparently, they were satisfied with their shallow, dead religion and did not want anyone shaking up the status quo.

The same is true today. The growing animosity toward Christmas evidences itself in many ways: schools no longer hold Christmas pageants; manger scenes are banned in public places; businesses greet clients with “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas,” to name just a few examples. Jesus foretold that as the day of his return draws near “the love of many will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12), so this is not a surprise.

Jesus came into the world to be a light and we must not lose the heart of Jesus by becoming caught up in the culture wars. As the world sinks lower and lower, and the outcries against our Savior become more furious, may our own hearts be ruled by the love of Jesus Christ. And may our witness of mercy and holiness amidst a corrupt generation provoke those in darkness to turn to his great light.

As the purpose of Christmas fills our hearts this season, I pray that many will look at us and say, “I want the joy and peace I see in those people. There must be something to the message they proclaim and exemplify in their lives. I want to know their God.”

Merry Christmas to everyone.....

A Glorious Christmas Reminder!
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)
December 25, 2018

The manger in Bethlehem speaks directly to the resurrection of Christ! He was fully human at birth — Mary’s blood nourished him in the womb — but his birth was a breaking forth of the eternal. We read: “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned” (Matthew 4:16). The light referred to here was eternal life — resurrection from death.

Hosea prophesied the coming Messiah: “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction!” (Hosea 13:14). When Jesus came into the world, he fulfilled this prophecy, saying, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die” (John 11:25-26).

Jesus asks, “Do you know why I am here? Do you know why I was born into poverty, the shepherds adored me, the wise men brought gifts, and the angels sang that night? It is so that you can have eternal life.” Yes, Jesus himself connects his birth to the resurrection: “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me … And this is the will of Him who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:38-40, emphasis added).

Resurrection life is already available to us — in this life. We have this promise: “As Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).

Let’s keep resurrection in mind as we celebrate Christmas this year. Let the image of the manger be a bridge — Christ bridging the abyss between earth and heaven and giving us eternal life with our redeemer. What a glorious Christmas reminder!

Your Struggle Isn’t Greater Than God’s Grace
Gary Wilkerson

We cannot understand the gospel unless we know the glorious nature of our awesome God. “Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know” (Ephesians 1:18).

The gospel does not start with acknowledging that you are a sinner or realizing that God has a wonderful plan for your life. It starts with understanding the grace of our glorious Father.

Being in the Lord’s presence illuminates our understanding and yet our hearts are broken before our powerful, awesome God. Paul is saying here, “I want your eyes to be open to the reality of the character of this magnificent God we serve. He is not small, petty, or insignificant. He is the one, true God, and he wants us to have our eyes open to the revelation of his nature.”

Moses had a hunger and thirst to know who God was — what his nature and character were like — and he cried out, “Please show me your glory!” (Exodus 33:18). But Moses was unable to see God’s face because he was far too glorious. Rather, God came to him in a simple revelation: “The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin’” (34:6-7).

Pray that God will open your eyes that you may know “what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power” (Ephesians 1:18-19).

Consider the immeasurable greatness of God. Never think that your problems are bigger than God’s ability to solve them. Nor think your struggle with the flesh is greater than his power to overcome. And as you acknowledge his greatness, give thanks and magnify the name of the Lord for all he has done for you because of his wonderful grace.

Do You Desire to Be Used of God?
Carter Conlon

These are times when somebody, or perhaps many people, become aware of God’s willingness to restore and heal. They understand his willingness to take us, not in our strength, but in our weakness. After all, the Scriptures do not tell us to come to the throne of God when we are strong; rather, we are to come when we are weak. “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

The moment of spiritual awakening occurs when people begin to hear the Lord speaking: “I know your shepherds have led their people into powerlessness, having created a religious system around them to help prop up their error. And I know people have sinned and forgotten my ways, but I am still willing, one more time, to be merciful.”

God is calling out to men and women he wants to use for his glory. Remember, it does not take a multitude of people to change a nation. It does not take a hundred people to change your neighborhood — it takes only one who believes that God is willing to show mercy. However, if nobody steps forward, people who could have been spared will be lost.

If you desire to be used of God in this hour, you must be willing to step forward in faith. “Without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).

Trust God for the ability to accomplish all he has called you to do. Even though you may feel like you have little to offer, bring what you have and believe that he will take it and change your generation. “I sought for a man!” (see Ezekiel 22:30) — God is looking for that one who will step out in boldness and be that voice that declares God’s mercy.

Thank you but any wisdom I have is not of my own, but what I've obtained from God's Holy Word. If God's word was good enough for King Solomon and the great wisdom he obtained then it's certainly good enough for me and there's been so much more added since King Solomon's time.

The Famine Brought on by Unforgiveness
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Forgiveness is not just a one-time act but a way of life, meant to bring us into every blessing in Christ. “I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:44-45).

According to Jesus, forgiveness is not a matter of picking or choosing whom we would forgive. We cannot say, “You’ve hurt me too much to forgive.” Christ tells us, “For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?” (5:46).

No matter who your grudge is against, if you hold onto it, it will lead to bitterness that poisons every aspect of your life. Unforgiveness brings on spiritual famine, weakness, and a loss of faith that afflicts everyone in your circle.

Forgiveness transforms lives, causing the windows of heaven to open. It fills our cup of spiritual blessing to the brim with abundant peace, joy and rest in the Holy Ghost. Jesus’ teaching on this subject is very specific, and if you want to move in the wonderful realm of blessing, then heed his words.

“If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (Matthew 6:14-15). Make no mistake! God is not making a bargain with us here, saying, “Because you have forgiven others, I will forgive you.” Rather, Jesus is saying, “Full confession of sin requires that you forgive others. True repentance means confessing and forsaking every grudge, crucifying every trace of bitterness toward others.”

“Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you ... For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:37-38). This goes hand in hand with his Beatitude from the same sermon: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy” (Matthew 5:7). He wants you to forgive others so that you can move into the blessings and joy of sonship.

Clothed with Humility
Gary Wilkerson

“Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble’” (1 Peter 5:5).

How amazing it would be if all believers were walking in humility! How attractive the church would be to a lost, hurting, broken world, and how healing for people who have been wounded in the house of the Lord. And further, how wonderful and glorious it would be for our Father to see his church putting on the garments of humility.

Some may think that being humble means not offending others when, in reality, that is man-pleasing rather than God-pleasing. The world may despise humility but as we see in this passage, God exalts those who walk humbly. It is not always easy to walk in humility; actually, it is impossible without the grace that God promises.

Humility is necessary in order to have the outpouring of God’s blessings. The opposite of humility is a domineering attitude, a person who is always commanding, always exercising authority without any kind of mercy or grace. Peter says we are to clothe ourselves in humility. I always thought humility meant stripping off things, taking away, getting down to nothing. But Peter is saying humility is putting on certain things.

One of the ways to grow in humility is to put your complete trust in God. “Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (5:7). It is impossible to cast your cares onto the Lord until you first know that he is mighty; you would not cast your cares on God if you thought he was going to let you down or fail you.

Humility frees us from the arrogance of saying, “I can take care of myself,” and empowers us to trust the strong hand of God. It brings us to a place of peace, grounded and established in him. Determine today that you are going to grow in humility by allowing God to orchestrate the events of your life. Humble yourself before him and in due season he will exalt you (see 1 Peter 5:6).

Achieving a Servant's Heart
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Paul, formerly known as Saul of Tarsus, was on his way to Damascus with a small army to take Christians captive, bring them back to Jerusalem, and imprison and torture them. But Jesus appeared to Saul on the Damascus road, blinding him. “And [Saul] was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank” (Acts 9:9).

In those three days’ time, Saul’s mind was being renewed. He spent the entire time in intense prayer, considering his past life, and he began to despise what he had been. That is when Saul became Paul.

This man had been very proud, full of misguided zeal. He sought the approval of other high-minded religious men but then he said, “I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8).

Paul was a man who could say, “I once was somebody. All my peers, including my fellow Pharisees, looked up to me. I was climbing the ladder, and I was considered a holy man, a powerful teacher of the law. I had a reputation in the land and was blameless in the eyes of the people.

“But when Christ apprehended me, everything changed. The striving, the competing — everything that I thought gave my life meaning — was surrendered. I saw that I had missed the Lord completely.”

Paul thought his religious ambitions — his zeal, his competitive spirit, his works, his busyness — were all righteousness. But Christ revealed to him that it was all flesh, all for self. Therefore, Paul stated, “I laid aside all desire for success and recognition and I determined to be a servant” (see 1 Corinthians 9:19).

If you desire to be emptied of self, ambition and worldly reputation, I encourage you to follow Paul’s example. I know of no other way to achieve a servant heart except through prayer.

Christlike at Heart
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Have you ever wondered what your purpose in life is? Do you ever get discouraged because you cannot figure out your true calling?

Jesus sums up our core purpose in John 15:16: “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit.” Our purpose is simply to bear fruit. Many sincere Christians think bearing fruit means simply to bring souls to Christ, but bearing fruit means something much larger than soul-winning. The fruit Jesus is talking about is reflecting the likeness of Christ.

Growing more and more into Jesus’ likeness must be our purpose in life. It must be central to our activities, our lifestyle, our relationships. Indeed, all our gifts and callings — our work, ministry and witness — must flow out of this core purpose.

If you are not Christlike at heart — becoming noticeably more like him — you have missed God’s purpose. You see, God’s purpose for you cannot be fulfilled by what you do or measured by anything you achieve. His purpose is fulfilled in you only by what you are becoming in him, how you are being transformed into his likeness.

The disciples took Jesus on a tour of the temple in Jerusalem to show him the grandeur and magnificence of the structure, because they thought he would be impressed with it as they were. Instead, Jesus told them, in essence, “Not one stone of this temple will remain. It all looks very impressive, but it is man-centered.” In short, Jesus refocused the disciples’ attention to the spiritual temple and Paul later wrote to the church, “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you?” (1 Corinthians 6:19).

Many believers today are like the disciples, impressed by the wrong things, but Jesus’ message is clear: our focus should be on our spiritual temple. The fact is, the Holy Spirit abides in our bodies and as we spend time with him, he is prepared at any moment to bring us into his purpose.

Are You Feeling Low and Troubled?
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

If you have ever had times of feeling low and troubled, then Psalm 77 was written for you. The writer of the psalm, a man named Asaph, was a Levite from the priestly line in Israel. He was also a singer and served as David’s appointed choir director. Altogether, Asaph wrote eleven psalms and they were filled with righteous instruction for God’s people.

Asaph wrote Psalm 77 after he fell into a horrible pit of despair and his condition grew so bad that he was beyond comfort: “My soul refused to be comforted” (77:2). Yet Asaph was a praying man. We see this in the same psalm as he testified: “I cried out to God with my voice … and He gave ear to me” (77:1). I am sure Asaph had heard David’s very similar testimony in Psalm 34: “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry” (34:15).

Asaph knew David’s compelling story of how he had to flee Gath to escape Saul’s wrath. He had felt like such a failure that he had cried out to God in agony and was totally delivered. In fact, God put a song in David’s heart. In Psalm 40 David wrote a new song of faith which surely made it into the hands of Asaph as a testimony: “[He] heard my cry. He also brought me up out a horrible pit … and set my feet upon a rock” (40:1-2).

Does Asaph’s story describe your own spiritual battle? This godly, praying, faithful man was facing depression and there seemed to be no way out. But he concluded, “God’s ways are not known. I don’t know why he allowed me to go through such discouragement, but I can only rejoice that he has made me free.”

David said, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Psalm 34:4). Truly, the Holy Spirit will comfort you in your dark times and help you recover your joy, peace and rest as you seek him.

WILL WE ALLOW HIM TO REIGN?

Nicky Cruz

In his letter to the Galatians, the apostle Paul wrote, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25). Throughout Scripture it is clear that God wants every one of his children to surrender to the reign and rulership of the Holy Spirit. In fact, the Spirit’s primary purpose for living within us is to direct and guide us in all that we do.

The Holy Spirit provides absolute and detailed instructions to those who walk with him. When we walk in the Spirit, we don’t walk in confusion or doubt. His direction is clear and distinct. The early disciples of Christ understood this truth, and they allowed the Spirit to direct them in every decision, every move, every action. The Spirit talked to them and guided them in their every waking hour. No decisions were made without first consulting him. The church’s motto throughout the New Testament was, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit has to say.”

You and I have this same opportunity today. The same Spirit that guided the early believers in their walk with the Lord is living within you and me, beckoning us daily to listen, to submit, to heed his will and direction. He promises power and effectiveness beyond our wildest dreams. The only question is, will we allow him to reign?

I am always amazed at how much fun it is to move in the blessing of God. When God directs your path, it is always invigorating and seldom what you might expect. It’s never boring, never predictable, never ordinary, and always refreshing.

In the many decades I have followed God wherever he leads, I have seen him work in ways that are too awesome for words. God has displayed the power of his Spirit and his Word so many times that I have long since given up trying to second-guess him. When the Holy Spirit guides your path, the best you can do is hang on and try your best to keep up.

What Are We Building Our Lives On?
Gary Wilkerson

“So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation — if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in Scripture: ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame’” (1 Peter 2:1-6).

Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Peter calls Jesus a living stone, a word picture that can be a valuable revelation in your heart if you really grasp it. Christ is a stone — firm and immovable— unchanging in all his ways! And Peter emphasizes that he is a living stone, a life-giving Spirit, who absolutely, passionately loves every single one of us.

In today’s culture, people are rejecting the stone and they do not even realize it. The stone they are building their lives on consists of their own desires, their own dreams and aspirations. They choose where they place the stone but Jesus requires us to follow him, to submit our plans to him. He has hewn you, pulled you from his own quarry and called you into this spiritual house that God is building.

You are called to be one body, to love one another deeply, and that is why Peter starts this chapter by saying, “Put away malice toward others; put away deceit; drop hypocrisy and envy and slander. These things are wood, hay, and stubble.”

When you offer your life up to Jesus and build on his foundation, you become part of a spiritual house, holy and pure and on fire for God.

When Jesus Makes Himself Known
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

The prophet Isaiah speaks of the church just prior to the return of Jesus. God’s people will not appear frail, wallowing in fear and stressed out. No, they will be flourishing, feasting on “the best food and wine.” The Lord is telling us, in essence, “I have saved the best for last and now I am pouring it forth for my people. They are feasting on wonderful things in my presence.” This is speaking of spiritual food for living.

“On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines” (Isaiah 25:6, NIV).

This incredible feast is taking place all over the world. Young men and women of God are hungry for a gospel that touches them deep in their spirits. They have rejected the gospel of hype, crowds and professionalism and seek only to be shut in with Jesus, receiving revelation from him. They are coming forth from prayer with a fire that stirs everyone around them.

Everything the Lord is doing in these last days is closely tied to his presence, and his feast can only take place where Jesus’ presence is manifest. The psalmist says the hills melt like wax in the Lord’s presence (see Psalm 97:5). Simply put, every spiritual wall and fleshly blockade evaporates when Jesus makes himself known. Christ’s presence is so real when it is manifested that you can almost touch it.

Is the tangible, piercing presence of Jesus evident in your church? Do people go to their knees in all-consuming adoration of him? And do they leave with the special glow of having been in Christ’s presence? And what about your home? Do visitors sense the presence of Jesus in your household? Does the aroma of his holiness permeate your family, your marriage, all your relationships?

What a wonderful thing to live in the glow of the presence of Christ! The Holy Spirit will bring and maintain his presence and power in our churches, our homes, and our hearts, if we will closely follow him.

Safe Guards Against Satan’s Plots
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

In his letter to the church, Jude gives a dire warning: “To those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ: Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you … I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ” (Jude 1-4).

Jude is forewarning us that false shepherds will steal into God’s house with one goal in mind: to pervert the Lord’s grace. He is saying, “Satan is sending a certain false doctrine to infiltrate the church and it is going to come through preachers, teachers and evangelists. They will take God’s grace and subtly twist it, manipulating it until it produces lasciviousness in God’s people.”

Every Sunday, professing Christians gather in God’s house to worship, hear his Word, and enjoy fellowship. Yet many of these same holy-appearing people lead lust-filled lives. The devil is probably not bent on hooking you with filth and tempting you with gross sin. However, if he can get you to see grace as an excuse for permissiveness, then he can start you down a path to bondage.

If you have a truly biblical understanding of grace, the enemy cannot deceive you and seduce you. Here are three safeguards against the seductions of Satan’s lies concerning grace:
  1. Build up your faith by diligently studying God’s Word. Both reading and hearing it.
  2. Pray in the Holy Spirit, not just in church but in private.
  3. Be anxious for nothing, but look for our Lord’s soon return.
You have the ability within you to do all three of these and if you do them, Jude declares, you will reap the benefits: “[He] is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy” (Jude 24). Hallelujah!

Keeping Our Eyes on God’s Greatness
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

Former astronaut Charlie Duke once spoke about what it was like being in a tiny space capsule 28,000 miles from Earth, racing toward the moon. As the crew turned the craft to its side, someone exclaimed, “What an incredible sight!” They all looked and saw the planet Earth, hanging wondrously in black space — a huge, bright ball, supported by nothing at all. The whole crew was overwhelmed at the sight; they knew only an incredible Creator could have wrought that.

God beautifully used the reference to his creation when he was bringing Job out of his sufferings. “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? … To what were its foundations fastened?” (Job 38:4, 6). He was asking, “What holds the earth up in space?” And he goes further, “Who shut up the sea in its borders? Who tells the mighty ocean, ‘Come to this point but no farther’? What keeps the waves from overwhelming the land? And where is the spring from which the seas flow?

“How is the light parted from the darkness? How is the wind divided and scattered? How is rain born? Can man produce lightning, thunder, clouds? Who put wildness and tameness in the nature of beasts? Who do you think set all these forces of nature in place, Job?”

God literally took Job through a “power course,” revealing his past creation. Through it all, Job was being told, “You accuse me of neglect and you doubt my power to deliver you, yet I have shown you how I care for all my vast creation” (read this in Job 38 and 39).

Job was totally overwhelmed and when he looked at his problems again, he said, “I’ve been so foolish. I’ve had my eyes on the wrong things. I was concentrating on my pain when I should have been looking at you and your greatness. I know you can do everything and I also know that no thought can be withheld from you” (see 42:2).

If you keep your eyes on God and his greatness, fear and doubt cannot get a stranglehold on your heart.

Patiently Pursuing Truth
Gary Wilkerson

The apostle Peter tells us, “Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven” (1 Peter 1:10).

We should note that these prophets knew what they were called to do — prophesy and speak God’s Word. They spoke a powerful word because they were certain of what was in their hearts and they wanted to be sure they understood its impact before they voiced it to the people. They “searched and inquired carefully,” patiently pursuing truth. If we are not careful, we can approach the Word of God casually and read only the parts we like. But if we do this, we will miss truths that he intends for us to grasp. Therefore, it is vital that we search the Word diligently.

Is there an area in your life that is out of control? It may be a problem with sin or relationships. Or it may be because you are not willing to open your heart to the fullness of the Word of God and ask the Holy Spirit to apply the Word to your heart.

I truly believe that God gave us all things in the Scripture for our profit, our benefit, our teaching, our rebuke and our correction. He wants us to become fully mature in him. But if we do not avail ourselves of the whole truth, we will not benefit from it. And if we do not listen to the Holy Spirit when we study the Word, we can believe things that are not actually there.

It is important that you not only know the Word of God, but that you know the God of the Word.

“Let the Weak Say ‘I Am Strong’”
David Wilkerson (1931-2011)

We all are guilty of unbelief at times. Often we face yet another struggle and allow the enemy to discourage us. We might develop feelings of inexplicable loneliness or, experiencing a sense of total inadequacy, we become convinced the Lord does not hear us. A cry erupts from our hearts, “God, where are you? I pray, I fast, I study your Word. Why won’t you deliver me from this?”

We go to the secret place of prayer but we don’t feel like praying. Our souls are dry, empty, exhausted from our struggles, yet we don’t dare accuse the Lord of neglecting us in our condition. So we just weakly approach him in what we perceive as humility. Head down, we say with discouragement, “Lord, I don’t blame you. You’re good and kind to me. I’m the problem; I’ve failed you so much.”

Wait! That is not humility. On the contrary, it is an outright insult to a Father who adopted us with a covenant promise to love and support us throughout our lifetime. When we tell him how bad we are — how weak, empty and useless we are to him — we despise all that he has accomplished in us. This grieves our heavenly Father.

Whenever we become discouraged in our faith, the Holy Spirit will speak to us in no uncertain terms. “Enough of this self-pity. Get up! You are loved, called and chosen, and I have blessed you with my Word.” We must discipline ourselves to recall all that God has brought us through. We are to rejoice, knowing he is pleased with what he has done for us.

You may have been tested time after time. Now the time has come for you to make a decision. God wants faith that endures the ultimate test and he gives you his Word to enable you to triumph. If he commands you to do something, he will supply you with the power and strength to obey: “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong’” (Joel 3:10). “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10).

Hmmm I felt a thump on my head from this. That's what my Daddy always did if I wasn't listening and this sure was speaking to me. I think I need to read this over a few times.....
