Sharing the Love of Jesus

Jesus told his disciples, “I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit” (John 15:16). Then he quickly added these solemn words: “That your fruit should remain.” These words of Christ apply to his disciples right up to this day. He is saying, in essence, “Be sure that your fruit will endure.”

The word “fruit” refers to the work and ministry of Christ that his followers do here on earth. As a believer, you are chosen and ordained to “go into all the world and preach the gospel of Christ” (see Mark 16:15). This means reaching those around you, wherever God has called you to live your life. Jesus also says, “Go therefore and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19). You can do this by standing alongside a new convert, encouraging, sharing your knowledge of the Word.

Millions of people are filling church pews every Sunday, believing they are in God’s good graces just because they show up in church. Yet, they have created their own concept of who Christ is — someone just like themselves, formed by their own blindness rather than by God’s Word. When you come along and tell them that they are sinners unless they repent and make a true life-change, they may be very resistant. You come with the truth of the blood of Christ, a new birth, separation from the world, a walk of submission and obedience. You come offering them life through Jesus!

What a wonderful opportunity we have to present the life-giving truth of Jesus to others. But no matter how much we share of the mercy, grace and love Christ, the only thing that will pierce the walls erected by hardened people is the presence of Jesus. And that comes through the work of the Holy Spirit.

“God our Savior … desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4). Whenever you share the love of Jesus with someone, you have the assurance that you are walking out the desires of your heavenly Father.

He Only Asks Us to Follow

There is nothing as exhilarating as walking each day with the Holy Spirit. Moving and breathing in the power of God. Listening for the voice that comes to your spirit, then obeying whatever he would have you do. Going wherever he tells you to go. Saying what he tells you to say. Ministering to whomever he puts in your path. Drinking from the well of his wisdom as he imparts it into your heart and mind.

“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you — they are full of the Spirit and life” (John 6:63).

I try to never question the Holy Spirit’s ways, never doubt his insight, never hesitate to let him lead. So many people try to educate the Holy Spirit on what he should do but God’s Spirit does not answer to you and me or ask us what we think about his ways. He only asks us to follow.

The most powerful and effective prayer any of us can pray is to say, “Jesus, I release my life to the working of your Holy Spirit. I have no plans of my own, no agenda, no goals of my own choosing, no desire that isn’t placed in my spirit by yours. I renounce Satan’s hold on my life and the sins that enslave me. Show me where you want me to go, what you want me to do, who you want me to see, and what you want me to say. I am no longer going to limit your work in my life. Take me! Mold me! Use me! Lead me! Make me a vessel of your Spirit!”

Instead of spending your life praying for blessings, pray that God will use you to bless others. Instead of striving to be comfortable and wealthy and well-fed, pray that God will use you to help others find comfort and shelter and food. Instead of looking for miracles, let God turn your life into a living, breathing miracle of his will.

That is how you make a true impact on the world for Christ and leave a lasting legacy.

Two Guidelines for Dependence on God

There is no formula for living wholly dependent on the Lord, but there are simple guidelines that you can consider. First, be convinced that the Lord is anxious and willing to make his will known to you, even in the smaller details of your life. The Holy Spirit who abides in you knows God’s will for you and he will guide, lead and speak to you.

“When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth … He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:13-14). Jesus is telling us that the Holy Spirit will convey to us the mind and will of God. “When He hears [your voice], He will answer you … Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:19, 21).

You may be in the midst of an affliction or suffering as the result of a hasty decision. The Lord promises you, “Your inner ear will hear my Spirit speaking to you, ‘Go that way. Do this. Don’t do that.”

Second, we must pray with unwavering faith for power to obey God’s direction. Scripture says, “Let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord” (James 1:6-7).

When God tells us to do something, we need power to stay the course and obey him fully. Satan and the flesh will always plant doubts and questions and we need strength from heaven not to say “yes” to a situation when Jesus has said “no.”

When you are not sure you recognize the voice of God, reach out to him in faith. Praying, pleading, weeping are not enough if you do not believe the Holy Spirit will guide you. God does not deceive his people and he will make his will clear to you when you seek him.

A People God Longs For

“The time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God” (1 Peter 4:17). God wants a pure church so that we can be the people he truly longs for us to be — clean and untainted by the world. He wants to do a deep work in us in order to refine us and make us sensitive to the holy, awesome God that we serve.

The word judgment has more than one meaning. It can be translated as the wrath of God, which is for those who do not obey the Lord, but the judgment that comes to the house of God is not the wrath of God; rather, it is like a refiner’s fire. It brings us to a place where our lives are aligned with what he has for us.

The entire fourth chapter of 1 Peter is giving definition to the idea of what our lives can look like when the holy, loving judgment of God comes and purifies us. He draws us to a place of holiness: “Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin” (4:1). Arming oneself speaks of walking in the fire of the Holy Spirit so that we might be a people that are saying yes to his plans for us.

In 1 Peter 4:8, Peter says we are to “have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins.’” We see that holiness is not just what we do not do, it is how we live. The greatest form of holiness is love; in fact, “he who loves another has fulfilled the law” (Romans 13:8).

Holiness, the refining fire, the righteous judgment of God — all these will get to the core of your heart and change you. And that type of judgment will cause you to cry out, “Lord Jesus, come!”

Guarding Against Drifting from Christ

It is possible for Christians to become spiritually neglectful, caught up in prayerlessness, going for days without seeking God’s Word. Yes, the Bible clearly warns that it is possible for devoted believers to drift from Christ and it offers powerful warnings about guarding against falling asleep in the midnight hour: “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” (Hebrews 2:1-3).

There are biblical examples of once-strong churches that ended up drifting. In Revelation, we read of the Ephesian church grieving Christ by drifting away from their first love (Revelation 2:4). Likewise, the Laodicean church drifted into lukewarmness (3:15), and the church at Sardis drifted into spiritual death (3:2). Paul warns the believers in Galatia that they had wandered from the victory of Christ’s cross and had turned back to works of the flesh (see Galatians 1:6-7).

Paul warns, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:15).

How can you guard against drifting from Christ and neglecting “so great a salvation”? Paul tells us to “give heed” to the things we have heard. Speed reading through God’s Word may give one a feeling of accomplishment, but the more important thing is that you “hear” what you read with spiritual ears. Meditate on the Word so that it is heard in your heart.

Paul says, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?” (2 Corinthians 13:5). He is encouraging them, “As lovers of Christ, test yourself; take a spiritual inventory of your walk with Jesus.” I encourage you to do the same. How is your communion with Christ? Are you guarding it with all diligence?

When Peter Failed Jesus

At some point you may find your relationship with the Savior becoming cool and distant. A look at the apostle Peter’s life reveals that he denied Christ three time, even going so far as to tell his accusers, “I do not know Him” (Luke 22:57). This disciple was sure of his relationship with Jesus and had said to himself and others, “I could never grow cold in my love for Christ. Others may walk away, but I will die for my Lord” (see Matthew 26:35).

So, what had brought Peter to this point? It was pride, the result of self-righteous boasting, and he was the first among the disciples to give up the struggle. He forsook his calling and returned to his old career, telling the others, “I’m going fishing.” What Peter really was saying was, “I can’t handle this. I thought I couldn’t fail but I failed God worse than anyone by denying Jesus. I just can’t face the struggle anymore.”

By this time Peter had repented of his denial of Jesus and been fully restored in the Savior’s love. He was forgiven, healed and Spirit-breathed, yet he was still a frayed man inside, unsure of himself. He was still in fellowship with Jesus and the disciples. In fact, after a time of fishing with his friends, he saw Jesus on the shore and they had a pivotal exchange.

“’Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?’” He said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.’ He said to him, ‘Feed My lambs’” (John 21:15). Note that at that time Jesus did not remind him to watch and pray or to be diligent in studying God’s Word . No, Peter was instructed to “feed the lambs.” This simple phrase is a key to guarding against neglect in our spiritual life. Jesus was saying, “I want you to forget about your failure and minister to the needs of my people. As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you.”

As you strive to pray, study the Word(The Holy Bible), live a holy life, and love Christ passionately, be sure you do not ignore the hurting ones in Christ’s Body — the lambs.

Laying Hold of God in Faith

“When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). Why would Jesus ask such a question? It implies a lack of faith, not just on the worldly but among God’s people.

Faith is one of the most talked about subjects in the church. Great works are being done and huge projects undertaken, all in the name of faith. So, what is Jesus saying by asking, “When the trumpet finally sounds, will I find any faith at all?” We find a sobering clue in Hebrews: “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12).

One of the most familiar cases of unbelief is found in the story of Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist. Here was a devoted, godly priest who suffered because of a single episode of unbelief. Scripture says Zacharias was “righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless” (Luke 1:6). He ministered faithfully and was a respected, faithful servant, but when the angel Gabriel brought the message that he was to have a son, Zacharias was filled with doubt and he gave in to unbelief. God did not take kindly to Zacharias’ doubt and he struck him dumb: “Behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time” (Luke 1:20).

Only one sin kept Israel out of the Promised Land — unbelief! “And why couldn’t they go in? Because they didn’t trust him” (Hebrews 3:19, Living Bible). “Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience” (Hebrews 4:11).

Our God has made incredible promises to us and he desires that we hold him to those promises. I encourage you to lay hold of his wonderful Word and enter into his promised rest. Then your life will be a glowing testimony to this generation.

The Spirit Keeps the Work Alive

“Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:2-5).

Peter was excited to communicate with the churches of the cities he had traveled through. They were outcasts, having been forced out of their homeland, but Peter was painting a beautiful picture for them. His soul was stirred as he spoke of being sanctified of the Spirit, of obedience to Jesus, and the foreknowledge of the Father. He was speaking of how God would keep them and give them an inheritance in the Savior that would be revealed “in the last time.” They were born again to a living hope in Jesus.

Sanctification empowers believers by the working of the Holy Spirit to be obedient; he keeps that work alive. You may fail him at times but if you have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus, his power is still at work in you, so do not walk in condemnation and shame.

Just as these “elect exiles” were displaced, you may face things in your life that seem to be reversals and setbacks, but you can be sure that every time God says no, it is because he is preparing something better, something that will position you to reach the goals that he has set for you. He is alive and working — and his promises are for you!

The Joy of Seeking God’s Face

“One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple” (Psalm 27:4).

David is testifying, “I have one prayer, Lord, one request. It is my single most important goal in life; it consumes me and I will seek after it with all that is in me.” Make no mistake, David was no ascetic, shunning the outside world and hiding away in a lonely desert place. No, David was a passionate man of action, a great warrior, with huge throngs singing of his victories in battle. He was also passionate in his prayer and devotion, with a heart that yearned after God. The Lord had blessed David with many of the desires of his heart and he had tasted of everything a man could want in life: riches, power and authority, respect and adulation. On top of all this, he was surrounded by devoted men who were willing to die for him.

Most of all, David was a worshiper, a praising man who gave thanks to God for all his blessings. When David prayed that he might dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life, he was not talking about leaving his throne to move into the physical temple of God. No, his heart yearned for something he saw in the spirit. He said, in short, “There is a beauty, a glory, an excitement about the Lord I haven’t yet seen in my life. I want to know what it is like to have uninterrupted communion with my God. I want my life to be a living prayer.”

When David inquired of the Lord and prayed, “Have mercy also upon me, and answer me” (Psalm 27:7), God answered with these simple words, “Seek my face” (27:8). That is the key! As you seek God’s face, he will bring you into continual, uninterrupted communion with the Christ of glory.

Christ’s Care for Us in Our Trials

God takes no delight in the testing of his children. The Bible says Christ is sympathetic toward us in all our trials, being touched by the feelings of our infirmities. In Revelation 2:9 he tells the church, “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty.” He is saying, in essence, “I know what you are going through. You may not understand it, but I know all about it.”

It is essential that we comprehend this truth, because the Lord does test and try his people. Scripture says, “For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined” (Psalm 66:10). The Psalmist says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19).

The Bible says a great deal about suffering and trials in the lives of believers. But it is important for every Christian to know and accept that God has a purpose in all sufferings. No test comes into our lives without his allowing it, and one of God’s purposes behind our trials is to produce in us an unwavering faith. Peter writes, “That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:7). Peter calls these experiences “fiery trials” (see 4:12).

The good news is that we can win the faith test! Paul wrote: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). Of course, Paul knew he still had much work to do, but he was able to honestly say, “I may not have apprehended Christ as I wanted, and I haven’t been perfected. But when it comes to faith and trusting God through every trial, I know whom I have believed.”

Fix your eyes upon Jesus and praise God through every ordeal. Your heart will be filled with gladness as you practice praising and rejoicing over the joy that awaits us.

The Lord Is My Shepherd

God’s Work Throughout Our Trials

“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith — more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire — may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:6-9).

Peter says that it is necessary for us to go through trials for a little while. I wish I could make all the troubles in my life last for just a little while, don’t you? But Peter is not talking about just a short time, he is saying that while we are on this earth, we cannot escape fiery trials that cause us stress and anxiety. While we are still in this body we are not to think it unusual that we suffer. God knows and is actually going to do something powerful in the midst of our trials.

“In this you rejoice” (verse 6). Why would anyone rejoice in trials and tribulations? In the Greek the word rejoice as used here actually means to leap for joy. The same word is used in the book of Acts when a crippled man was healed after Peter laid hands on him (see Acts 3:9). But rejoicing while suffering defies logic and can only be reconciled in light of understanding what the Lord is causing to happen in your life. The three Hebrew men were thrown into a furnace of fire but instead of being consumed by the fire, they were brought out in perfect condition — to the glory of God. Even the king was impressed at their steadfast faith in their God (see Daniel 3:20-29).

We enjoy reading these testimonies, but God is the same today as he was then. He goes with us through all our trials and brings us through in victory if we trust him completely. AMEN

Look to Our Glorious King

It seems the whole world is trembling right now over current events. Almost every day we wake up to another development that shakes our foundation, it seems. Within the last year the earth has experienced record-breaking floods, devastating fires that are wiping out entire towns, hurricanes, earthquakes. And then we have the rapid, indisputable moral decline of our society.

To the secular world, it must seem that no one is in charge. Nonbelievers are becoming convinced that no solution is left, that everything is spinning into chaos — but God’s people know this is not true. We know there is no reason to fear, because the Bible reminds us again and again that the Lord has everything under control. Not one single thing happens in the world without his knowledge and governance.

The psalmist writes, “The kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations” (Psalm 22:28). Likewise, the prophet Isaiah declares to the world, “Come near, you nations, to hear; and heed, you people! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it” (Isaiah 34:1). He is saying, “Listen, nations, and give me your ear. I want to tell you something important about the Creator of the world.”

Isaiah states that when God’s indignation is aroused against nations and their armies, it is the Lord himself who delivers them. “Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales … All nations before Him are as nothing, and they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless … It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers” (Isaiah 40: 15, 17, 22).

Isaiah counsels God’s people, who are battered and troubled by world events, “Look up to the sky, to the glorious heavens. Behold the millions of stars placed there and remember that your God created and named every one. Are you not more precious to him than they? So, fear not!”

How can you doubt God’s concern for you in your times of crisis? His Word is full of promises and hope, so cling to Him no matter what.

The Devil’s Lies About Hope

What can God’s people do to move the heart of the Lord in these perilous times? Is the church powerless to do anything? Are we to sit and wait for Christ’s return or are we called to take drastic action of some kind? When all around us the world is trembling, with men’s hearts failing them for fear, are we called to take up spiritual weapons and do battle with the adversary? Surely Christ’s followers have a role in these dark times, but what are we supposed to do? Are we to fall in line with the rest of the world, grabbing for our piece of the pie? No, never!

During the time of the prophet Joel, a day of darkness approached Israel such as had never been seen in history. The prophet even cried, “Alas for the Day! For the day of the Lord is at hand” (Joel 1:15). Joel’s counsel to Israel in that dark house was, “‘Now, therefore,’ says the Lord, ‘Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning … Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness’” (Joel 2:12-13).

Here was God’s call to the church: “Don’t be discouraged or give in to despair. You are not to believe the devil’s lies that there is no hope.” Instead, according to Joel, the people’s cry to the Lord was to be, “Lord, stop this reproach on your name. Don’t let your church be mocked any longer.” And the Lord replied, “Even now, when you have pushed me out of your society and mercy seems impossible, when humankind has mocked my warnings and fear and gloom are covering the land — even now, I urge you to come back to me and show the world my mercy.”

Satan wants the church to think there is no hope but God comes to us through this word from Joel: “There is hope and mercy — even now. I am kind and slow to anger and now is the time for you to turn to me in prayer.” It is time to turn to the Lord in prayer as never before!

Necessities for Prevailing Prayer

In order for a believer to confidently ask and receive from the Lord, he must follow the laws of prayer laid down by the Father. These guidelines are found scattered through the pages of Scripture and obedience to them opens up the channel from the Father’s willing hand to our own hands stretched out in need.

First, approach God in and through the name of Jesus. We make our appeal on the basis of what Christ did for us rather than on our own merits, because we have none. It may be humbling to continually admit that we are helpless sinners saved by grace, but only this path will lead to a prayer-hearing God.

Second, a person who prays must believe. The Bible states that when we ask, we “must believe and not doubt.” A doubting, double-minded person “should not think he will receive anything from the Lord” (James 1:6-8).

The third guideline involves the state of our hearts. The apostle John addresses the issue this way: “If our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask because we obey his commands and do what pleases him” (1 John 3:21-22).

A clear conscience and a pure heart are absolute necessities for prevailing prayer. I cannot confidently ask God for answers when I cling to the sins that nailed his Son to the cross of Calvary. It is impossible to live in iniquity and enjoy the Lord’s favor simultaneously.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15). God desires an attitude of confidence — assurance — when we come to him in prayer.

I encourage you to approach God as a child approaches a father that he knows loves him unconditionally — no holding back or fear of rejection. “In [Christ] and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence” (Ephesians 3:12).

Are You Exhausted by Your Own Efforts?

“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ … but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy’” (1 Peter 1:13-16).

You may feel as though you have completely exhausted all your efforts to be holy. You have failed so many times and this is your last chance. But God is not telling you to be holy in the same way he is, because obviously you are not deity. God is not saying, “Look at me and try your best in your own power to be like me.” No — and this is glorious — he is declaring that you “shall be holy” in the same way he declared, “Sun, glow in space. Earth, be formed. Water, fall upon the Earth.” The same way he created the heavens and the Earth — by speaking it into existence — is how he is speaking your holiness into existence.

God is not saying to you, “Let’s see how good you can be.” It is not like that at all. He is saying, “I declare that you will be holy. I am speaking into existence that you are holy. I am making you like me. I have given you my Word that remains forever — and it is power. It is life! It is joy! It is victory! And I am putting it all into you.”

God is not inviting you to try to live a consecrated life; he is speaking these words over you. It may take some time and there may be some storms and battles with the flesh, but you will experience a progressive sanctification. He is making you holy! That should fill you with joy and hope. Be encouraged and inspired with perfect confidence that God is for you and not against you.

A Yearning in God’s Heart

Jesus tells the story of a young man who took his portion of his father’s inheritance and squandered it in riotous living. He ended up broke, ruined in health and spirit, and at his lowest point he decided to return to his father’s home. Scripture says, “He arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him” (Luke 15:20).

Nothing hindered this father’s forgiveness of the young man; the son had to do nothing because his father had already made provision for reconciliation. He ran to his son and embraced him as soon as he saw the boy coming up the road. The truth is, forgiveness is never a problem for any loving father. Likewise, it is never a problem with our heavenly Father when he sees a repentant child. But inherent in this father’s embrace was his yearning for his son to be restored. He wanted his child’s company, his presence, communion with him.

“Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us … let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Hebrews 10:19-20, 22).

Believers are well aware of the human side of Christ’s work at Calvary — forgiveness of our sins, the power of victory over all bondages and, of course, the promise of eternal life. Yet there is another benefit of the cross and this one is to the benefit of the Father. It is the delight that comes to him whenever he receives a prodigal child into his house.

Beloved, the real issue at the heart of this parable of the prodigal has less to do with the coming home of the son and more to do with the happiness of the father at his return. And so it is with our loving heavenly Father. His heart is in full delight when we boldly enter into his presence for fellowship with him.

Repent and return home to our Father, time is running out.....

A Wonderful Example of Faith in Adversity

When Paul wrote his letter to the Philippians, he was being held in a Roman prison, his feet chained to a soldier on either side. The conditions were horrible and Paul suffered great indignities, with no time alone and no freedoms.

Think about it. Here was a man who had been very active, traveling the open road and high seas to meet and fellowship with God’s people. Paul drew his greatest joy from visiting the churches he had established throughout that region of the world. But now he was chained down, literally bound to the hardest, most profane men alive.

Some of the Christians who knew Paul began to murmur that he was bringing disgrace on the gospel because of his situation. But Paul was intent on finding God’s purpose for allowing him to come to this point. Instead of asking, “Why did this happen to me?” he decided to discover what his reaction should be. This servant of God made up his mind: “I can’t change where I am but I know my steps are ordered by the Lord. Therefore, I’m going to magnify Christ and be a testimony while I’m in these chains.”

“Now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death” (Philippians 1:20). Paul was in no way resigned or indifferent to his circumstances but he was determined that God’s Word would be validated by his reaction to his affliction. “Knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel … Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice” (1:17-18).

Paul’s attitude is a wonderful demonstration of how we should react to adverse circumstances. It is possible to waste all our tomorrows anxiously waiting to be delivered out of our suffering, but if that becomes our focus, we will miss the miracle and joy of being emancipated in our trial. Paul’s word to the Philippians was, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (4:4). And I say to you, “Rejoice in the Lord always!”

WHAT IF WE WERE A UNIFIED (CHRISTIAN) CHURCH?

After the Holy Spirit first gave birth to the church and marked the first followers of Jesus by his holy fire, the immediate results in their lives were dramatic and all-encompassing.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:42-47).

I long for that kind of church today — a unified body of Christ. And I believe God longs for this as well. This is a church unified by a clear vision of our compelling mission and purpose in this world. It is a church drawn together, as believers everywhere learn to view the lost people all around them as God sees them. And it is a church that shares with these lost souls a single, simple, unifying message — the good news of Jesus Christ.

The first-century believers began in a small room with just a handful of people, but they took that challenge, and God used their faithfulness to make an eternal impact on their culture and the world. God’s people now number in the hundreds of millions worldwide and while we may not have the same mission field, we all have the same command from Jesus — evangelize the world.

Just imagine what can be accomplished when his people move together to reach the lost. And you can be a part of this holy mandate by reaching out to those around you — your family, your work colleagues, your neighbors.

A Jesus Principle

“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58:6).

God will release something supernatural through prayer and fasting. Isaiah 58:10 tells us, “If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom as the noonday.”

God is telling us that a true fast will shift our focus from living for ourselves to living for others; from being self-absorbed and self-indulgent to living a life of satisfying the desires of the afflicted. Those who live to satisfy their own desires find themselves thwarted in their pursuits, frustrated and not finding the fulfillment of life they are looking for.

A true fast is not just about abstaining from food; it is the idea of consecrating yourself to God, separating yourself from something so that your heart is awakened to helping stricken people. It may be people around the world through missions or it could even be your own family. Jesus modeled this principle of living an others-centered life.

“And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail” (58:11). God gives you his power, his glory, his presence when you begin to live for others. And God is the one who gives us the transformed heart to make this shift happen — the shift from being self-centered to being God-centered and others-centered.

If you will allow the Holy Spirit to grip your heart and cast off doubt and fear and undue concern for the things of this world, he will transform you. Something supernatural will happen in you so that something supernatural will happen through you.

The Reward Is Worth the Difficulties

There is a cost to being completely sold out to God but there is also a great reward. When you are lukewarm, having a form of godliness without power — not overly sinful nor overly holy — you are accepted and your life is relatively quiet. You are no trouble to anyone, not even the devil.

When you get hungry for God and start to dig into his Word, people often fail to understand. Your appetite for worldly things begins to wane and you enter a new realm of discernment. You are broken and contrite in spirit, and you have a new burden for the church. You expect your friends to rejoice with you but, instead, they begin to call you a fanatic. (Praise the Lord, call me fanatic anytime.)

Moses was wonderfully touched by God’s hand and awakened about the bondage of God’s people. He was so excited by the great revelation of deliverance he had received that he ran out to share it with the brethren: “It came into his heart to visit his brethren … For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand” (Acts 7:25).

Moses was the meekest man on earth; he was consumed with God, not in a holier-than-thou way but in a humble, prophetic way. He wanted his brethren to hear and see what God was about to do but instead of rejoicing with him, they rejected him, saying, “Who do you think you are? Who made you ruler over us?” Someday they would understand — but not then.

Likewise, when you share insights into God’s Word or try to explain truths you discover, you may hear, “Are you sure you aren’t going a little overboard? That’s a bit heavy for me.” And, frankly, you may lose friends or even have family members distance themselves from you.

The greatest reward for going all the way with Jesus is well worth any misunderstandings that may come your way. That reward is having Christ always stand with you! There are other rewards but his constant presence is all we will ever need.

Jesus Already Reigns as King!

King Nebuchadnezzar set up a golden calf in Babylon and demanded that it be worshiped. Every official, leader and citizen in Babylon’s one hundred-plus provinces had to fall down before this god or face death — roasted alive in huge ovens. However, three devout young Jews in the kingdom refused to bow and the furious king had them thrown into the fiery furnace. But the Lord came down and delivered his servants — and the king cried out, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God!” (Daniel 3:28).

Islam is a religion that is threatening the whole world with the demand to worship its deity, Allah. It is a kind of Babylon, with terrorist organizations demanding, “Bow to Allah or we will blow up your airplanes, bomb your towns, trains, buses and tunnels. We will kidnap you, torture you and behead you. Allah will rule the world and Islam will prevail.”

There is a growing wrath and anger in the hearts of wicked men against the very name of Jesus. We know that Jesus’ name has always been hated by wicked men, but now that hatred has turned into a demonic rage. In fact, his name is slowly and subtly being erased from society by legislative mandates in nations all over the globe.

There is ever-increasing satanic wrath against every devoted follower of Christ. If you are drawing closer to the Lord, then you are facing the full wrath of an angry devil. However, our greatest weapon in pulling down satanic strongholds is the Word of Almighty God. We are not to fret over the battles that Satan seems to be winning. The battle we are in is an eternal one and the gates of hell will not prevail against Christ’s church. Our Father has declared it: Jesus already reigns as King! AMEN

A Caution Against Failing to Pray

As Christians, we are involved in spiritual battles as personal emissaries of Satan war against our souls. Though we must daily fight these invisible powers, God has provided us with spiritual armor — the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, and so on.

“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:11-12).

In addition to describing our battle gear, the apostle Paul gives vital instructions: “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:18).

Notice the sweeping nature of this admonition: “on all occasions … with all kinds of prayers and requests … always keep on praying.” This need for constant prayer is probably the most overlooked aspect of spiritual warfare. Just as God promised to fight with Israel’s armies against its enemies and his, so he promises to uphold our cause as we daily seek his strength. No matter what satanic devices are arrayed against us, nothing can match the awesome power of God, who responds to our call for help in the day of battle.

The next time you are in the midst of a spiritual crisis, consider what Jesus did on the night he was arrested: “Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray’” (Matthew 26:36).

If Jesus, the Son of God, had to pray in order to find strength, what must that mean for us? In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus cautioned his disciples, as he still cautions us today, against the laziness of failing to pray. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak” (Matthew 26:41).

Believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and that God raised Jesus from the dead

This is trusting with all of your heart that Jesus Christ is who he said he was.

Call upon the name of the Lord.

Every single person who ever lived since Adam will bend their knee and confess with their mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord, the Lord of lords and the King of kings.

We Will Behold Jesus

Heaven! The promise of heaven is at the very core of the gospel, yet we do not hear much on this joyful subject these days. In fact, the Bible does not say much about what heaven is like. Jesus did not sit down with the disciples and explain the glory and majesty of heaven. He did say to the thief on the cross, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise,” but he did not describe it (Luke 23:43).
In 2 Corinthians 12:1-6, the apostle Paul refers to heaven when he speaks about being taken up into Paradise. He says he saw and heard things there that so staggered his mind he did not have language to describe it. Although he was thankful for his life and his calling, throughout his years of ministry his continual desire was to go home and be with the Lord. He spoke eloquently about his longing for heaven when he wrote, “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).
We know that the throne of God is in heaven and Jesus is there with the angels in innumerable multitudes. Paul says that once we are there, we will behold Jesus “face to face” (1 Corinthians 13:12). We are going to have immediate, personal access to the Lord throughout eternity and that fact alone should make our hearts rejoice. Jesus has gone to prepare a home for us where we will live with him forever (see John 14:3).
We will not be relaxing and “having church” all the time in heaven. The Bible tells us that we will rule with the Lord as “kings and priests to our God” (Revelation 5:10). Also, we will be given thrilling assignments in this new world and will act as his servants (see Revelation 22:3). There will be no tears in heaven: “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (21:4). No sorrow, no pain, no death, no fear.
Beloved, make heaven your earnest desire. Jesus is coming for those who long to be with him there!

God’s Love is Greater

Our heavenly Father wants us to have an abiding assurance of his love. Jesus settled our sin problem at Calvary and even though we sometimes fail, the Holy Spirit is constantly reminding us of the Father’s lovingkindness. When we become focused on our sin, we lose all sight of what God wants most: “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).

God is a rewarder and he is anxious to shower us with his love when we are contrite. David is an example of someone who was blessed with God’s goodness even though he went far into sin. You know the story of how he fell into blatant adultery and then committed murder to keep from being found out. David became a hypocrite, sinning in the face of God’s blessings and bringing shame on the name of the Lord. Yet, even though he was disciplined severely, David was forgiven and fully restored.

God sent the prophet Nathan to confront David about his sin because it was such an affront in his eyes. But in spite of that, God wanted David to know that he was forgiven. You see, God knew David would be broken and contrite over his sin; most of all, the Lord knew that at heart David was not a habitual adulterer or murderer. Instead, David had been surprised by sin, overwhelmed in a moment of weakness.

Likewise, God sees your heart. The Lord knows you did not wake up one morning and decide, “Today I’m going to commit adultery. I’m going to lose my temper and explode.” No, only hardened sinners behave this way. Christians are surprised and overtaken by sin; in fact, often the enemy floods them while they are busy about God’s business.

Beloved, God has counted your tears even before you have shed them. He has forgiven you at the point of your first pang of conviction and sorrow. “The goodness of God leads you to repentance” (Romans 2:4). His love is greater than all your sins!

When we become aware of our sins we must repent of our sins, asking God for forgiveness. Repentance is our key to forgiveness.

We Serve a Righteous King

The Lord rules over all of creation with majesty and power. His laws govern the whole universe — all of nature, every nation, and all the affairs of men. He rules over the seas, the planets, the heavenly bodies and all their movements.

“He rules by His power forever; His eyes observe the nations” (Psalm 66:7). “The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength … Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting … Your testimonies are very sure” (Psalm 93:1-2, 5).

These psalms were written by David, who is testifies, in essence, “Lord, your testimonies — your laws, decrees and words — are irrevocable. They are utterly reliable.” The author of Hebrews echoes this, declaring that God’s Living Word is eternal and unchangeable (see Hebrews 13:8).

Think about it. There are laws operating in the universe that govern how things work, without exception. Consider the laws that rule the movements of the sun, moon, stars and earth. These heavenly bodies were all put into place when God spoke a word, and since that time they have been ruled by laws that God also spoke into being.

The New Testament tells us that this great God is our Father and he takes pity on his children. “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15, KJV). God hears our every cry: “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17).

We are also told that God is the righteous King who judges by his law. His Word is his constitution, containing all of his legal decrees, by which he rules justly. Everything in existence is judged by his immutable Word — including his children!

Simply put, we can hold the Bible in our hands and know, “This book tells me who God is. It describes his attributes, nature, promises and judgments. It is his rule of law, from his own mouth, by which he rules and reigns.” What a mighty God we serve! AMEN

An Invitation to Come Boldly Before God

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). “In whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him” (Ephesians 3:12).

When God tells us to come boldly to his throne, it is not a suggestion, it is his preference — and it is to be heeded. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16, KJV). The word “effectual” comes from a Greek word that means “a fixed position.” It suggests an immovable, unshakeable mindset. Likewise, “fervency” speaks of boldness built on solid evidence, absolute proof that supports your petition. Together, these two words — effectual fervency — mean coming into God’s court fully convinced that you have a well-prepared case — beyond emotions, loudness, and pumped-up enthusiasm.

Such prayer can only come from a servant who searches God’s Word and is fully persuaded that the Lord is bound to honor it. Indeed, it is important that not one of us goes into God’s presence without bringing his Word with us. The Lord wants us to bring his promises, remind him of them, bind him to them — and stand on them.

Some Christians say, “I don’t really ask God for much. I pray only for his will in my life, for his plan to be brought about on the earth. I seek him only for himself, not for his gifts.” I have even said this at times because I thought such an attitude was holy, but in truth it is not. The all-knowing, all-powerful God of creation has given us his personal invitation to come boldly to his throne and then to make requests of him.

Quiet times of worship with the Lord are truly wonderful. Yet there come times when the conditions of our lives become so critical that another kind of praying is necessary. At such times, the door is open and we are to come before the Lord with confidence that he will keep his Word.

Where Do You Go When Troubled?

You may be enjoying a season of good times right now — no great stress, discouraging tests or deep pain. I am grateful to the Lord for providing such seasons in the lives of his children. But we know from Scripture that storms and great trials eventually come to all who have truly given everything to Christ. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19).

Many who endure long trials question within, “Lord, have I grieved you in some way? Is there something in my life that hinders you from hearing my cry? I’ve been faithful to your Word, so why am I having this never-ending trial? The Bible says you won’t allow me to suffer more than I’m able to bear, but I feel like I’m at the breaking point.”

For centuries great Christians have tried to probe the reasons for the suffering of the godly, but answers seem elusive. Books are filled with opinions and advice, but the most effective approach to endurance is to cry out, “Lord, I must draw from your Word for my present need.”

A believer comes to the place where he makes a choice either to remain lukewarm in his faith or cross the line to follow Jesus with all his heart. Although it is not possible to fully understand why Christians suffer, one thing is certain: Once you set your heart to seek the Lord, determining to lay hold of his promises, you become a target of Satan.

The devil recognizes something in every devoted Christian — something that is absolutely destructive to his kingdom. It happens when a child of God resolves to trust the Lord through everything, drawing near to him in spite of pain and difficulty. You become a target of the devil because he knows the foundations of hell are being shaken. His entire strategy is to get you to take your eyes off the victory of the cross.

Do not concentrate on your weaknesses, your sins, your shortcomings but, instead, focus on Jesus and the victory he promises. AMEN

Prepared for the Days Ahead

“The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night [suddenly]” (2 Peter 3:10). God uses faithful servants — sometimes those with national pulpits and at other times humble, unknown, hidden watchmen — to deliver his words of warning. Only those who are not in love with this world and yearn for the coming of the Lord will have the message ring true in their hearts.

God warns his faithful ones so that when sudden disaster strikes, they are not swept away with fear. When dreadful events occur, God’s people must know that what has happened is not an accident or a random act. They are to have the peace of Christ in their hearts, knowing that our God is still master of the universe. They will not panic when other men’s hearts are failing them for fear at all the frightful things they see coming on the earth.

Peter goes on to say, “The heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up” (3:10).

To whom is the apostle Peter addressing these words? The answer is found in 2 Peter 3:1: “Beloved, I now write to you.” He is addressing the faithful remnant of believers. Whenever we hear words like Peter’s, our first response is to recoil. “There’s too much bad news today. Why do we have to hear this message now? Why not just let it happen?” But Peter had a reason: “Since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness” (3:11).

In light of the sudden dissolving of all things, God’s beloved people ought to check their own behavior. Those who look for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy ought to be conformed to the image of Christ, in conduct, in conversation and in thought. Make no mistake, the fire is coming. And for that reason, we are to “be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless” (3:14).

If you're not aware of Bible Prophecies and of what is to come, you want expect or know what is happening when it happens thus men and women's hearts will fell them in fear. Don't be caught unaware for there are some bad times coming to this world before the coming of our Lord. Stay close to our Lord in daily prayer, always looking up for our Salvation.

Loving Boldly As Jesus Did

When we consider our lifestyles as Jesus followers, most of ours do not fit the New Testament model. Christ sent out his twelve disciples to proclaim the good news, heal the sick, and be willing vessels to bring about his kingdom on earth (see Mark 16:15-18). Later, he sent out seventy disciples with the same instructions (see Luke 10:1-16). He told each of these groups, “Everything I have taught you to do — preach the gospel, heal the afflicted and bring about my kingdom — you are to do in my name. Now go into all the world and do as I have commanded.”

That is the New Testament model. But the gap between it and the way we live our faith is vast. At one end is God’s wonder-working power, and on the opposite end is our lifestyle. What keeps us from doing the works of Jesus? I believe it is this: we need a baptism of his love.

One barrier more than any other keeps us from loving boldly as Jesus did. This barrier is fear! When we imagine doing the works of Jesus, we are afraid of people, of what they might think, and of failing. The apostle John addresses this directly: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love” (1 John 4:18).

Paul enumerates the gifts that come from being freed from fear: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). Nothing in our human ability can fill us with a spirit of power and love and a sound mind. These are gifts of God, and he gives them to all who ask. When he frees us from fear, we are able to love people with his love and minister to their deepest needs. His love changes everything!

It is good to understand that Jesus himself was God in flesh, yet he needed the Father’s direction.
“Then Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself does … I can of myself do nothing’” (John 5:19-20, 30).

If Jesus needed help and direction with every step, how much more helpless are we without the same love and guidance from the Father? Jesus said our Father loved us and, therefore, he showed us “all things that he himself does.” If we are in Christ, and his Father is our Father, then we are also deeply loved. It is in these times of feeling abandoned that we become wholly dependent upon him.

Surrender your will and quit struggling and striving. Place the matter completely in God’s hands — he will take over. His Spirit will take you from death and raise you up into newness of life. This truth is the sole hope for those of you who have lost heart in your struggle to walk in obedience.

I was so very privileged many, many years ago and walk down a lot of steps to visit his last bed of rest after he was crucified. > NOW NO LONGER OPEN to the public

What amazed me when I climbed back up to the citadel above was the whole circular dome had representatives of EVERY religion in the world, that accepted below was a very special place.

As Ive told you before Tarfoot, we all worship a greater power above all of us.. We just travel along different paths to find HIM

God is there when HE thinks we need HIM.

DARKNESS DOESN’T RETREAT WITHOUT A FIGHT

Whenever God is about to do something profound, His people will inevitably face opposition. The apostle Peter said it this way: “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy” (1 Peter 4:12-13).

Peter was saying to the people of that time, “Do not think it is strange when we have to fight opposition as we purpose to reclaim godliness in our nation.” In the same way, if you and I are praying for an awakening in our cities and in our country, we must be prepared for the fact that darkness simply will not retreat without a fight.

The Book of Exodus tells us of the time when the Israelites were close to being delivered from the hand of the Egyptians. A new king who did not know Joseph came into power and became very oppressive. He told the people, “We will tell you what you can build, and you must build it according to our specifications. You can go to your house of worship, but you must worship our way. You will bend your knee to our will, and if you refuse, it is going to cost you!” (See Exodus 1:8-11)

This is very similar to the opposition that you and I currently face and will see in greater measure in the coming days. The freedoms we have known are now in jeopardy; laws are soon going to change for the worse. The threats have the potential to prevent the Church of Jesus Christ from realizing the power that she actually has.

Let us believe God to fill us afresh with His Holy Spirit so that we will not bow to any threats of evil. As the Lord enables us to stand and speak His Word with boldness, we will find that our testimony will not be of ourselves but of God and His mighty power within us!

Signs of the Coming of Christ

“For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they (the unrepentant) shall not escape. But you, brethren,(the repentant believers) are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief” (1 Thessalonians 5:3-4).

Right now, the world is in such turmoil that people are asking, “Is the world spinning out of control? Are we seeing the winding up of history?” We now understand what Jesus meant when he said: “There will be … distress of nations … men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken” (Luke 21:25-26).

When Jesus gave that warning, he added this statement: “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near” (21:27-28).

All the terrifying things we see coming upon the earth right now have to do with the coming of Christ. Beyond all the gross darkness covering the earth, a cloud is being formed in heaven, and one day soon Christ is going to enter that cloud and reveal himself to the whole world. “When you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near” (21:31).

The Christians in Paul’s day wanted him to write about prophetic times and Paul responded that “the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God” (1 Thessalonians 4:16). He went on to further describe the event and then he said, “Therefore comfort one another with these words” (4:18).

Paul’s exhortation was meant to be an encouragement. Likewise, today, we are not to fret or be overly concerned over current events because we well know that it is all signaling the coming of the Lord Jesus to take away his people.

When Jesus said, “Look up” (Luke 21:28), he was telling us to keep our focus on him and his soon return! Truly, this is our wonderful hope!

We are not in the last days, but the last seconds. Are you ready? Remember the ABC's. A- Accept the Lord Jesus as your Lord and Savior. B- Believe on Jesus that He is the Son Of God, and C- Confess your sins before Him and repent and turn your life to Him and Him alone. God bless and love to all....

Prayer Inspired by God’s Spirit

Paul told the Ephesians to “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Ephesians 6:18). What an interesting phrase and word picture — pray in the Spirit. Pray in, through, and by the Holy Spirit, who is God himself!

In addition to this reference in Ephesians, there are more: “So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding” (1 Corinthians 14:15). Notice that Paul prays not only with his mind but also with his spirit, stirred and prompted by the Spirit of God.

Where else would the Spirit primarily work but in our human spirits? Also, to combat those who divide the Body of Christ, those who follow “mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit,” Jude told his leaders to “build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit” (Jude 20, emphasis added).

These directives about prayer inspired by the Holy Spirit might seem like emotional fanaticism to some. They feel it’s for those “other folks” who always sing too loudly and lift their hands in church every six seconds. They say, “That’s not how I was raised in church.”

God gave us the Bible so we could prayerfully and humbly search its depths and experience what it promises. Did the Holy Spirit’s power to inspire prayer somehow evaporate during the centuries following the book of Acts? Will the Spirit help us today any less, especially when we need him most? This does not sound like what a merciful God would do.

How will we boldly pray in faith if the Holy Spirit is not helping us? Only as the Spirit leads and inspires will we rise to a new level of prevailing prayer. Then strongholds will come down, loved ones will be visited by God’s grace, and people around us will be reminded that Christ is a living Savior and not a mere theological concept.

Nothing is too hard for God. “Lord, teach us to pray, and let it be prayer in the Holy Spirit.” Amen

God Gives Power to the Weak

“God has dealt to each one a measure of faith” (Romans 12:3). All believers are given a portion or degree of faith and that portion must be built up into an unshakable, unwavering faith. How does this happen? As faith grows, it is strengthened in one way only: by hearing and trusting in God’s Word.

The Lord would never ask us to do what is impossible. It is possible for us to stir ourselves to ask, “Why am I so fearful? Why am I on this roller coaster of up-and-down despair? Why does the future cause panic in my soul?” It is because we have not fully committed our lives, our families, our health, our jobs, our homes into God’s faithful hands. We have not made the leap of faith that determines, “My Lord is true and faithful. Though I have failed countless times, he has never failed me. Come what may, I will cast my life and future into his care.”

How are we able to do this? By embracing the word he has given us. Right now, the world is in great turbulence and God has said to us, “My Word is in you and you are covered under the shadow of my hand. You are my child.” “I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; moreover my flesh also will rest in hope” (Acts 2:25-26).

I urge you to make this power word from Isaiah your own: “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. … But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:29-31).

God never sleeps and his arm is always outstretched on behalf of you, his beloved child.

Facing the Enemy with Courage

Whether we believe it or not, it is a fact that Satan is on a mission — a mission as simple as it is single-minded. He is out to steal our passion and he is determined to accomplish it. Imagine how effective he can be if he can carry out this one task — this one pursuit. This one thing he desperately needs to achieve.

If Satan can steal our passion, take away our excitement for Jesus, keep us from getting caught up in thoughts of winning souls and reach the world for Christ, he can effectively keep his dominion on earth intact. He knows that truth, and he works with every fiber of his being to see it happen. In far too many ways he is succeeding.

Too often Christians fret and complain about the future; they cry and moan about Satan’s many victories in the world, how he is winning so many battles and gaining so much momentum in this country, as well as around the world. They talk as if Satan is destined to win. “We’re losing our kids to the culture,” they say. “Our churches are dying in numbers, and our society is growing more evil by the day.” I see it myself but I know that when Satan is winning, it is because the people of God are cowering in retreat instead of standing up and facing the enemy with courage. They are giving up too easily. The Word of God tells us, “When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him” (Isaiah 59:19).

I long to see a day when Christians stand shoulder to shoulder, arm in arm, in this war with Satan and finally draw a line in the sand, right in the middle of his path. You can be a part of this army of soldiers rising up against Satan in this day. Let your heart be ignited by the Holy Spirit and become a warrior in this huge battle for God. The war is being waged, so take up your sword and find your place within his ranks!

The Blood of the Lamb Has Power

Jesus came as one blood sacrifice, and the blood of this Lamb has power. Power to cleanse, power to heal, and millions upon millions around the world have experienced the glory and the power of this cleansing blood of Jesus Christ.

We serve the living Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Ask the Holy Spirit to come and speak to your heart in that still, small voice. If you don't know Christ, that's what Easter is all about. I want you to take a step as the prodigal son did: he walked back to the father.

First of all, I want you to know that there's no sin that anyone has ever committed that’s so horrible or so wicked that it can't be forgiven. God doesn't turn anybody down. Secondly, I ask you—once you've confessed your sins and believed in the cleansing power of Jesus Christ’s blood—don't go back to them. Give them over, and don't let the devil haunt you with them because those sins are under the blood of Christ.

Some of you live in condemnation. You live in fear. Believe that this lamb was slain for you, and your sin was laid on his shoulder. He carried your sin, and he paid the price for that, and there's nothing you can do to work it through. So, right now, just lay it down. Then when these thoughts come back to hound you, say, “Jesus is my righteousness. Christ is my righteousness. Christ is my righteousness.”

When Satan comes and lies to you, when he tells you that you still have some devil in you or whatever he says. Right now, just say back: “Christ is my righteousness.”

Say it right now. “Christ is my righteousness.”

Glory be to God. He is our righteousness. We deserved hell, and he gave us heaven because we trust in him.

I want you to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart if you've drifted from him and want to come back to his love and grace on this Easter. The Bible says believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved. I believe that. I believe that with all my heart.

Impossible Situations

Jesus was ministering to a great multitude when the people began to get hungry. He took his disciple Philip aside and asked him an important question: “Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, ‘Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?’” (John 6:5-6).

Jesus was saying, “Look, thousands of hungry people are here. How are we going to feed them? What do you think we should do?” How incredibly loving of the Lord. He knew all along what he would do; the verse tells us so. Yet, he was trying to teach Philip something important and the lesson he wanted to impart has great significance to us today.

Our world is teetering on a precipice unprecedented in history. The present upheaval comes at a time when Christians everywhere are facing trials as never before. Multitudes sit up at night trying to figure out answers to their problems: “Maybe this will work. No, wait. Maybe that will solve it. No, that won’t work, either. What am I going to do?”

When Jesus posed his question to Philip, the disciples did not have just a bread problem, they had a bakery problem, a money problem, a distribution problem, a transportation problem, and a time problem. Add it all up and they had problems they could not even imagine. In fact, their situation was absolutely impossible.

Beloved, consider that in the midst of your impossible situation, Jesus would come to you asking, “What are we going to do about this?” He knows exactly what he is going to do; he has a plan. Yet he also wants to know how you, his servant, will face your difficulties.

Philip’s correct answer would have been, “Jesus, you are God! Nothing is impossible with you, so I am giving this problem to you right now. It is no longer mine, but yours.”

That is the response Jesus is looking for from us. I pray that you have the kind of faith that rests in the Father’s care and trusts him to come through for you in his own way and time. He can be trusted absolutely!

Moving and breathing in the power of God. Listening for the voice that comes to your spirit, then obeying whatever he would have you do. Going wherever he tells you to go. Saying what he tells you to say. Ministering to whomever he puts in your path. Drinking from the well of his wisdom as he imparts it into your heart and mind. “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you — they are full of the Spirit and life” (John 6:63). I try to never question the Holy Spirit’s ways, never doubt his insight, never hesitate to let him lead. So many people try to educate the Holy Spirit on what he should do but God’s Spirit does not answer to you and me or ask us what we think about his ways. He only asks us to follow. The most powerful and effective prayer any of us can pray is to say, “Jesus, I release my life to the working of your Holy Spirit. I have no plans of my own, no agenda, no goals of my own choosing, no desire that isn’t placed in my spirit by yours. I renounce Satan’s hold on my life and the sins that enslave me. Show me where you want me to go, what you want me to do, who you want me to see, and what you want me to say. I am no longer going to limit your work in my life. Take me! Mold me! Use me! Lead me! Make me a vessel of your Spirit!” Instead of spending your life praying for blessings, pray that God will use you to bless others. First, be convinced that the Lord is anxious and willing to make his will known to you, even in the smaller details of your life. The Holy Spirit who abides in you knows God’s will for you and he will guide, lead and speak to you. “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth … He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:13-14). Jesus is telling us that the Holy Spirit will convey to us the mind and will of God. “When He hears [your voice], He will answer you … Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:19, 21). You may be in the midst of an affliction or suffering as the result of a hasty decision. The Lord promises you, “Your inner ear will hear my Spirit speaking to you, ‘Go that way. Do this. Don’t do that.” Second, we must pray with unwavering faith for power to obey God’s direction. Scripture says, “Let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord” (James 1:6-7). When God tells us to do something, we need power to stay the course and obey him fully. Satan and the flesh will always plant doubts and questions and we need strength from heaven not to say “yes” to a situation when Jesus has said “no.” When you are not sure you recognize the voice of God, reach out to him in faith. Praying, pleading, weeping are not enough if you do not believe the Holy Spirit will guide you. God wants a pure church so that we can be the people he truly longs for us to be — clean and untainted by the world. He wants to do a deep work in us in order to refine us and make us sensitive to the holy, awesome God that we serve. The word judgment has more than one meaning. It can be translated as the wrath of God, which is for those who do not obey the Lord, but the judgment that comes to the house of God is not the wrath of God; rather, it is like a refiner’s fire. It brings us to a place where our lives are aligned with what he has for us. The entire fourth chapter of 1 Peter is giving definition to the idea of what our lives can look like when the holy, loving judgment of God comes and purifies us. He draws us to a place of holiness: “Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin” (4:1). Arming oneself speaks of walking in the fire of the Holy Spirit so that we might be a people that are saying yes to his plans for us. In 1 Peter 4:8, Peter says we are to “have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins.’” We see that holiness is not just what we do not do, it is how we live. The greatest form of holiness is love; in fact, “he who loves another has fulfilled the law” (Romans 13:8). Holiness, the refining fire, the righteous judgment of God — all these will get to the core of your heart and change you. Yes, the Bible clearly warns that it is possible for devoted believers to drift from Christ and it offers powerful warnings about guarding against falling asleep in the midnight hour: “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” (Hebrews 2:1-3). There are biblical examples of once-strong churches that ended up drifting. In Revelation, we read of the Ephesian church grieving Christ by drifting away from their first love (Revelation 2:4). Likewise, the Laodicean church drifted into lukewarmness (3:15), and the church at Sardis drifted into spiritual death (3:2). Paul warns the believers in Galatia that they had wandered from the victory of Christ’s cross and had turned back to works of the flesh (see Galatians 1:6-7). Paul warns, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Ephesians 5:15). How can you guard against drifting from Christ and neglecting “so great a salvation”? Paul tells us to “give heed” to the things we have heard. Speed reading through God’s Word may give one a feeling of accomplishment, but the more important thing is that you “hear” what you read with spiritual ears. Meditate on the Word so that it is heard in your heart. Paul says, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?” (2 Corinthians 13:5). He is encouraging them, “As lovers of Christ, test yourself; take a spiritual inventory of your walk with Jesus.” I encourage you to do the same. How is your communion with Christ? A look at the apostle Peter’s life reveals that he denied Christ three time, even going so far as to tell his accusers, “I do not know Him” (Luke 22:57). This disciple was sure of his relationship with Jesus and had said to himself and others, “I could never grow cold in my love for Christ. Others may walk away, but I will die for my Lord” (see Matthew 26:35). So, what had brought Peter to this point? It was pride, the result of self-righteous boasting, and he was the first among the disciples to give up the struggle. He forsook his calling and returned to his old career, telling the others, “I’m going fishing.” What Peter really was saying was, “I can’t handle this. I thought I couldn’t fail but I failed God worse than anyone by denying Jesus. I just can’t face the struggle anymore.” By this time Peter had repented of his denial of Jesus and been fully restored in the Savior’s love. He was forgiven, healed and Spirit-breathed, yet he was still a frayed man inside, unsure of himself. He was still in fellowship with Jesus and the disciples. In fact, after a time of fishing with his friends, he saw Jesus on the shore and they had a pivotal exchange. “’Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?’” He said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.’ He said to him, ‘Feed My lambs’” (John 21:15). Note that at that time Jesus did not remind him to watch and pray or to be diligent in studying God’s Word . No, Peter was instructed to “feed the lambs.” This simple phrase is a key to guarding against neglect in our spiritual life. Jesus was saying, “I want you to forget about your failure and minister to the needs of my people. Why would Jesus ask such a question? It implies a lack of faith, not just on the worldly but among God’s people. Faith is one of the most talked about subjects in the church. Great works are being done and huge projects undertaken, all in the name of faith. So, what is Jesus saying by asking, “When the trumpet finally sounds, will I find any faith at all?” We find a sobering clue in Hebrews: “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12). One of the most familiar cases of unbelief is found in the story of Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist. Here was a devoted, godly priest who suffered because of a single episode of unbelief. Scripture says Zacharias was “righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless” (Luke 1:6). He ministered faithfully and was a respected, faithful servant, but when the angel Gabriel brought the message that he was to have a son, Zacharias was filled with doubt and he gave in to unbelief. God did not take kindly to Zacharias’ doubt and he struck him dumb: “Behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time” (Luke 1:20). Only one sin kept Israel out of the Promised Land — unbelief! “And why couldn’t they go in? Because they didn’t trust him” (Hebrews 3:19, Living Bible). “Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience” (Hebrews 4:11). Our God has made incredible promises to us and he desires that we hold him to those promises. I encourage you to lay hold of his wonderful Word and enter into his promised rest. Then your life will be a glowing testimony to this generation. He was speaking of how God would keep them and give them an inheritance in the Savior that would be revealed “in the last time.” They were born again to a living hope in Jesus. Sanctification empowers believers by the working of the Holy Spirit to be obedient; he keeps that work alive. You may fail him at times but if you have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus, his power is still at work in you, so do not walk in condemnation and shame. Just as these “elect exiles” were displaced, you may face things in your life that seem to be reversals and setbacks, but you can be sure that every time God says no, it is because he is preparing something better, something that will position you to reach the goals that he has set for you. No, David was a passionate man of action, a great warrior, with huge throngs singing of his victories in battle. The Lord had blessed David with many of the desires of his heart and he had tasted of everything a man could want in life: riches, power and authority, respect and adulation. On top of all this, he was surrounded by devoted men who were willing to die for him. Most of all, David was a worshiper, a praising man who gave thanks to God for all his blessings. When David prayed that he might dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life, he was not talking about leaving his throne to move into the physical temple of God. No, his heart yearned for something he saw in the spirit. He said, in short, “There is a beauty, a glory, an excitement about the Lord I haven’t yet seen in my life. I want to know what it is like to have uninterrupted communion with my God. I want my life to be a living prayer.” When David inquired of the Lord and prayed, “Have mercy also upon me, and answer me” (Psalm 27:7), God answered with these simple words, “Seek my face” (27:8). The Bible says Christ is sympathetic toward us in all our trials, being touched by the feelings of our infirmities. In Revelation 2:9 he tells the church, “I know your works, tribulation, and poverty.” He is saying, in essence, “I know what you are going through. You may not understand it, but I know all about it.” It is essential that we comprehend this truth, because the Lord does test and try his people. Scripture says, “For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined” (Psalm 66:10). The Psalmist says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19). The Bible says a great deal about suffering and trials in the lives of believers. But it is important for every Christian to know and accept that God has a purpose in all sufferings. No test comes into our lives without his allowing it, and one of God’s purposes behind our trials is to produce in us an unwavering faith. Peter writes, “That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:7). Peter calls these experiences “fiery trials” (see 4:12). The good news is that we can win the faith test! Paul wrote: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). Of course, Paul knew he still had much work to do, but he was able to honestly say, “I may not have apprehended Christ as I wanted, and I haven’t been perfected. But when it comes to faith and trusting God through every trial, I know whom I have believed.” Fix your eyes upon Jesus and praise God through every ordeal. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:6-9). Peter says that it is necessary for us to go through trials for a little while. I wish I could make all the troubles in my life last for just a little while, don’t you? But Peter is not talking about just a short time, he is saying that while we are on this earth, we cannot escape fiery trials that cause us stress and anxiety. While we are still in this body we are not to think it unusual that we suffer. God knows and is actually going to do something powerful in the midst of our trials. “In this you rejoice” (verse 6). Why would anyone rejoice in trials and tribulations? In the Greek the word rejoice as used here actually means to leap for joy. The same word is used in the book of Acts when a crippled man was healed after Peter laid hands on him (see Acts 3:9). But rejoicing while suffering defies logic and can only be reconciled in light of understanding what the Lord is causing to happen in your life. The three Hebrew men were thrown into a furnace of fire but instead of being consumed by the fire, they were brought out in perfect condition — to the glory of God. Even the king was impressed at their steadfast faith in their God (see Daniel 3:20-29). We enjoy reading these testimonies, but God is the same today as he was then. He goes with us through all our trials and brings us through in victory if we trust him completely. Almost every day we wake up to another development that shakes our foundation, it seems. Within the last year the earth has experienced record-breaking floods, devastating fires that are wiping out entire towns, hurricanes, earthquakes. And then we have the rapid, indisputable moral decline of our society. To the secular world, it must seem that no one is in charge. Nonbelievers are becoming convinced that no solution is left, that everything is spinning into chaos — but God’s people know this is not true. We know there is no reason to fear, because the Bible reminds us again and again that the Lord has everything under control. Not one single thing happens in the world without his knowledge and governance. The psalmist writes, “The kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations” (Psalm 22:28). Likewise, the prophet Isaiah declares to the world, “Come near, you nations, to hear; and heed, you people! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it” (Isaiah 34:1). He is saying, “Listen, nations, and give me your ear. I want to tell you something important about the Creator of the world.” Isaiah states that when God’s indignation is aroused against nations and their armies, it is the Lord himself who delivers them. “Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, and are counted as the small dust on the scales … All nations before Him are as nothing, and they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless … It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers” (Isaiah 40: 15, 17, 22). Isaiah counsels God’s people, who are battered and troubled by world events, “Look up to the sky, to the glorious heavens. Behold the millions of stars placed there and remember that your God created and named every one. Are you not more precious to him than they? So, fear not!” How can you doubt God’s concern for you in your times of crisis? When all around us the world is trembling, with men’s hearts failing them for fear, are we called to take up spiritual weapons and do battle with the adversary? Surely Christ’s followers have a role in these dark times, but what are we supposed to do? Are we to fall in line with the rest of the world, grabbing for our piece of the pie? No, never! During the time of the prophet Joel, a day of darkness approached Israel such as had never been seen in history. The prophet even cried, “Alas for the Day! For the day of the Lord is at hand” (Joel 1:15). Joel’s counsel to Israel in that dark house was, “‘Now, therefore,’ says the Lord, ‘Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning … Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness’” (Joel 2:12-13). Here was God’s call to the church: “Don’t be discouraged or give in to despair. You are not to believe the devil’s lies that there is no hope.” Instead, according to Joel, the people’s cry to the Lord was to be, “Lord, stop this reproach on your name. Don’t let your church be mocked any longer.” And the Lord replied, “Even now, when you have pushed me out of your society and mercy seems impossible, when humankind has mocked my warnings and fear and gloom are covering the land — even now, I urge you to come back to me and show the world my mercy.” Satan wants the church to think there is no hope but God comes to us through this word from Joel: “There is hope and mercy — even now. These guidelines are found scattered through the pages of Scripture and obedience to them opens up the channel from the Father’s willing hand to our own hands stretched out in need. First, approach God in and through the name of Jesus. We make our appeal on the basis of what Christ did for us rather than on our own merits, because we have none. It may be humbling to continually admit that we are helpless sinners saved by grace, but only this path will lead to a prayer-hearing God. Second, a person who prays must believe. The Bible states that when we ask, we “must believe and not doubt.” A doubting, double-minded person “should not think he will receive anything from the Lord” (James 1:6-8). The third guideline involves the state of our hearts. The apostle John addresses the issue this way: “If our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask because we obey his commands and do what pleases him” (1 John 3:21-22). A clear conscience and a pure heart are absolute necessities for prevailing prayer. I cannot confidently ask God for answers when I cling to the sins that nailed his Son to the cross of Calvary. It is impossible to live in iniquity and enjoy the Lord’s favor simultaneously. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15). God desires an attitude of confidence — assurance — when we come to him in prayer. He ended up broke, ruined in health and spirit, and at his lowest point he decided to return to his father’s home. Scripture says, “He arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him” (Luke 15:20). Nothing hindered this father’s forgiveness of the young man; the son had to do nothing because his father had already made provision for reconciliation. He ran to his son and embraced him as soon as he saw the boy coming up the road. The truth is, forgiveness is never a problem for any loving father. Likewise, it is never a problem with our heavenly Father when he sees a repentant child. But inherent in this father’s embrace was his yearning for his son to be restored. He wanted his child’s company, his presence, communion with him. “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us … let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Hebrews 10:19-20, 22). Believers are well aware of the human side of Christ’s work at Calvary — forgiveness of our sins, the power of victory over all bondages and, of course, the promise of eternal life. Yet there is another benefit of the cross and this one is to the benefit of the Father. It is the delight that comes to him whenever he receives a prodigal child into his house. Beloved, the real issue at the heart of this parable of the prodigal has less to do with the coming home of the son and more to do with the happiness of the father at his return. And so it is with our loving heavenly Father. His heart is in full delight when we boldly enter into his presence for fellowship with him. The conditions were horrible and Paul suffered great indignities, with no time alone and no freedoms. Think about it. Here was a man who had been very active, traveling the open road and high seas to meet and fellowship with God’s people. Paul drew his greatest joy from visiting the churches he had established throughout that region of the world. But now he was chained down, literally bound to the hardest, most profane men alive. Some of the Christians who knew Paul began to murmur that he was bringing disgrace on the gospel because of his situation. But Paul was intent on finding God’s purpose for allowing him to come to this point. Instead of asking, “Why did this happen to me?” he decided to discover what his reaction should be. This servant of God made up his mind: “I can’t change where I am but I know my steps are ordered by the Lord. Therefore, I’m going to magnify Christ and be a testimony while I’m in these chains.” “Now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death” (Philippians 1:20). Paul was in no way resigned or indifferent to his circumstances but he was determined that God’s Word would be validated by his reaction to his affliction. “Knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel … Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice” (1:17-18). Paul’s attitude is a wonderful demonstration of how we should react to adverse circumstances. It is possible to waste all our tomorrows anxiously waiting to be delivered out of our suffering, but if that becomes our focus, we will miss the miracle and joy of being emancipated in our trial. Paul’s word to the Philippians was, “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!” (4:4). Nicky Cruz After the Holy Spirit first gave birth to the church and marked the first followers of Jesus by his holy fire, the immediate results in their lives were dramatic and all-encompassing. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:42-47). I long for that kind of church today — a unified body of Christ. And I believe God longs for this as well. This is a church unified by a clear vision of our compelling mission and purpose in this world. And it is a church that shares with these lost souls a single, simple, unifying message — the good news of Jesus Christ. God’s people now number in the hundreds of millions worldwide and while we may not have the same mission field, we all have the same command from Jesus — evangelize the world. Just imagine what can be accomplished when his people move together to reach the lost. God will release something supernatural through prayer and fasting. Isaiah 58:10 tells us, “If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom as the noonday.” God is telling us that a true fast will shift our focus from living for ourselves to living for others; from being self-absorbed and self-indulgent to living a life of satisfying the desires of the afflicted. Those who live to satisfy their own desires find themselves thwarted in their pursuits, frustrated and not finding the fulfillment of life they are looking for. A true fast is not just about abstaining from food; it is the idea of consecrating yourself to God, separating yourself from something so that your heart is awakened to helping stricken people. It may be people around the world through missions or it could even be your own family. Jesus modeled this principle of living an others-centered life. “And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail” (58:11). God gives you his power, his glory, his presence when you begin to live for others. And God is the one who gives us the transformed heart to make this shift happen — the shift from being self-centered to being God-centered and others-centered. If you will allow the Holy Spirit to grip your heart and cast off doubt and fear and undue concern for the things of this world, he will transform you. When you are lukewarm, having a form of godliness without power — not overly sinful nor overly holy — you are accepted and your life is relatively quiet. You are no trouble to anyone, not even the devil. When you get hungry for God and start to dig into his Word, people often fail to understand. Your appetite for worldly things begins to wane and you enter a new realm of discernment. You are broken and contrite in spirit, and you have a new burden for the church. You expect your friends to rejoice with you but, instead, they begin to call you a fanatic. (Praise the Lord, call me fanatic anytime.) Moses was wonderfully touched by God’s hand and awakened about the bondage of God’s people. He was so excited by the great revelation of deliverance he had received that he ran out to share it with the brethren: “It came into his heart to visit his brethren … For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand” (Acts 7:25). Moses was the meekest man on earth; he was consumed with God, not in a holier-than-thou way but in a humble, prophetic way. He wanted his brethren to hear and see what God was about to do but instead of rejoicing with him, they rejected him, saying, “Who do you think you are? Who made you ruler over us?” Someday they would understand — but not then. Likewise, when you share insights into God’s Word or try to explain truths you discover, you may hear, “Are you sure you aren’t going a little overboard? That’s a bit heavy for me.” And, frankly, you may lose friends or even have family members distance themselves from you. The greatest reward for going all the way with Jesus is well worth any misunderstandings that may come your way. That reward is having Christ always stand with you! Every official, leader and citizen in Babylon’s one hundred-plus provinces had to fall down before this god or face death — roasted alive in huge ovens. However, three devout young Jews in the kingdom refused to bow and the furious king had them thrown into the fiery furnace. But the Lord came down and delivered his servants — and the king cried out, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God!” (Daniel 3:28). Islam is a religion that is threatening the whole world with the demand to worship its deity, Allah. It is a kind of Babylon, with terrorist organizations demanding, “Bow to Allah or we will blow up your airplanes, bomb your towns, trains, buses and tunnels. We will kidnap you, torture you and behead you. Allah will rule the world and Islam will prevail.” There is a growing wrath and anger in the hearts of wicked men against the very name of Jesus. We know that Jesus’ name has always been hated by wicked men, but now that hatred has turned into a demonic rage. In fact, his name is slowly and subtly being erased from society by legislative mandates in nations all over the globe. There is ever-increasing satanic wrath against every devoted follower of Christ. If you are drawing closer to the Lord, then you are facing the full wrath of an angry devil. However, our greatest weapon in pulling down satanic strongholds is the Word of Almighty God. We are not to fret over the battles that Satan seems to be winning. The battle we are in is an eternal one and the gates of hell will not prevail against Christ’s church. Our Father has declared it: Jesus already reigns as King! Though we must daily fight these invisible powers, God has provided us with spiritual armor — the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, and so on. “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:11-12). In addition to describing our battle gear, the apostle Paul gives vital instructions: “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:18). Notice the sweeping nature of this admonition: “on all occasions … with all kinds of prayers and requests … always keep on praying.” This need for constant prayer is probably the most overlooked aspect of spiritual warfare. Just as God promised to fight with Israel’s armies against its enemies and his, so he promises to uphold our cause as we daily seek his strength. No matter what satanic devices are arrayed against us, nothing can match the awesome power of God, who responds to our call for help in the day of battle. The next time you are in the midst of a spiritual crisis, consider what Jesus did on the night he was arrested: “Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray’” (Matthew 26:36). If Jesus, the Son of God, had to pray in order to find strength, what must that mean for us? In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus cautioned his disciples, as he still cautions us today, against the laziness of failing to pray. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The promise of heaven is at the very core of the gospel, yet we do not hear much on this joyful subject these days. In fact, the Bible does not say much about what heaven is like. Jesus did not sit down with the disciples and explain the glory and majesty of heaven. He did say to the thief on the cross, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise,” but he did not describe it (Luke 23:43). In 2 Corinthians 12:1-6, the apostle Paul refers to heaven when he speaks about being taken up into Paradise. He says he saw and heard things there that so staggered his mind he did not have language to describe it. Although he was thankful for his life and his calling, throughout his years of ministry his continual desire was to go home and be with the Lord. He spoke eloquently about his longing for heaven when he wrote, “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). We know that the throne of God is in heaven and Jesus is there with the angels in innumerable multitudes. Paul says that once we are there, we will behold Jesus “face to face” (1 Corinthians 13:12). We are going to have immediate, personal access to the Lord throughout eternity and that fact alone should make our hearts rejoice. Jesus has gone to prepare a home for us where we will live with him forever (see John 14:3). We will not be relaxing and “having church” all the time in heaven. The Bible tells us that we will rule with the Lord as “kings and priests to our God” (Revelation 5:10). Also, we will be given thrilling assignments in this new world and will act as his servants (see Revelation 22:3). There will be no tears in heaven: “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes” (21:4). No sorrow, no pain, no death, no fear. Beloved, make heaven your earnest desire. Jesus settled our sin problem at Calvary and even though we sometimes fail, the Holy Spirit is constantly reminding us of the Father’s lovingkindness. When we become focused on our sin, we lose all sight of what God wants most: “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). God is a rewarder and he is anxious to shower us with his love when we are contrite. David is an example of someone who was blessed with God’s goodness even though he went far into sin. You know the story of how he fell into blatant adultery and then committed murder to keep from being found out. David became a hypocrite, sinning in the face of God’s blessings and bringing shame on the name of the Lord. Yet, even though he was disciplined severely, David was forgiven and fully restored. God sent the prophet Nathan to confront David about his sin because it was such an affront in his eyes. But in spite of that, God wanted David to know that he was forgiven. You see, God knew David would be broken and contrite over his sin; most of all, the Lord knew that at heart David was not a habitual adulterer or murderer. Instead, David had been surprised by sin, overwhelmed in a moment of weakness. Likewise, God sees your heart. The Lord knows you did not wake up one morning and decide, “Today I’m going to commit adultery. I’m going to lose my temper and explode.” No, only hardened sinners behave this way. Christians are surprised and overtaken by sin; in fact, often the enemy floods them while they are busy about God’s business. Beloved, God has counted your tears even before you have shed them. He has forgiven you at the point of your first pang of conviction and sorrow. “The goodness of God leads you to repentance” (Romans 2:4). His love is greater than all your sins! When we become aware of our sins we must repent of our sins, asking God for forgiveness. His laws govern the whole universe — all of nature, every nation, and all the affairs of men. He rules over the seas, the planets, the heavenly bodies and all their movements. “He rules by His power forever; His eyes observe the nations” (Psalm 66:7). “The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength … Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting … Your testimonies are very sure” (Psalm 93:1-2, 5). These psalms were written by David, who is testifies, in essence, “Lord, your testimonies — your laws, decrees and words — are irrevocable. They are utterly reliable.” The author of Hebrews echoes this, declaring that God’s Living Word is eternal and unchangeable (see Hebrews 13:8). Think about it. There are laws operating in the universe that govern how things work, without exception. Consider the laws that rule the movements of the sun, moon, stars and earth. These heavenly bodies were all put into place when God spoke a word, and since that time they have been ruled by laws that God also spoke into being. The New Testament tells us that this great God is our Father and he takes pity on his children. “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feelings of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15, KJV). God hears our every cry: “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles” (Psalm 34:17). We are also told that God is the righteous King who judges by his law. His Word is his constitution, containing all of his legal decrees, by which he rules justly. Everything in existence is judged by his immutable Word — including his children! Simply put, we can hold the Bible in our hands and know, “This book tells me who God is. It describes his attributes, nature, promises and judgments. It is his rule of law, from his own mouth, by which he rules and reigns.” What a mighty God we serve! When God tells us to come boldly to his throne, it is not a suggestion, it is his preference — and it is to be heeded. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16, KJV). The word “effectual” comes from a Greek word that means “a fixed position.” It suggests an immovable, unshakeable mindset. Likewise, “fervency” speaks of boldness built on solid evidence, absolute proof that supports your petition. Together, these two words — effectual fervency — mean coming into God’s court fully convinced that you have a well-prepared case — beyond emotions, loudness, and pumped-up enthusiasm. Such prayer can only come from a servant who searches God’s Word and is fully persuaded that the Lord is bound to honor it. Indeed, it is important that not one of us goes into God’s presence without bringing his Word with us. The Lord wants us to bring his promises, remind him of them, bind him to them — and stand on them. Some Christians say, “I don’t really ask God for much. I pray only for his will in my life, for his plan to be brought about on the earth. I seek him only for himself, not for his gifts.” I have even said this at times because I thought such an attitude was holy, but in truth it is not. The all-knowing, all-powerful God of creation has given us his personal invitation to come boldly to his throne and then to make requests of him. Quiet times of worship with the Lord are truly wonderful. Yet there come times when the conditions of our lives become so critical that another kind of praying is necessary. David Wilkerson (1931-2011) You may be enjoying a season of good times right now — no great stress, discouraging tests or deep pain. I am grateful to the Lord for providing such seasons in the lives of his children. But we know from Scripture that storms and great trials eventually come to all who have truly given everything to Christ. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19). Many who endure long trials question within, “Lord, have I grieved you in some way? Is there something in my life that hinders you from hearing my cry? I’ve been faithful to your Word, so why am I having this never-ending trial? The Bible says you won’t allow me to suffer more than I’m able to bear, but I feel like I’m at the breaking point.” For centuries great Christians have tried to probe the reasons for the suffering of the godly, but answers seem elusive. Books are filled with opinions and advice, but the most effective approach to endurance is to cry out, “Lord, I must draw from your Word for my present need.” A believer comes to the place where he makes a choice either to remain lukewarm in his faith or cross the line to follow Jesus with all his heart. Although it is not possible to fully understand why Christians suffer, one thing is certain: Once you set your heart to seek the Lord, determining to lay hold of his promises, you become a target of Satan. The devil recognizes something in every devoted Christian — something that is absolutely destructive to his kingdom. It happens when a child of God resolves to trust the Lord through everything, drawing near to him in spite of pain and difficulty. You become a target of the devil because he knows the foundations of hell are being shaken. His entire strategy is to get you to take your eyes off the victory of the cross. Do not concentrate on your weaknesses, your sins, your shortcomings but, instead, focus on Jesus and the victory he promises. God uses faithful servants — sometimes those with national pulpits and at other times humble, unknown, hidden watchmen — to deliver his words of warning. Only those who are not in love with this world and yearn for the coming of the Lord will have the message ring true in their hearts. God warns his faithful ones so that when sudden disaster strikes, they are not swept away with fear. When dreadful events occur, God’s people must know that what has happened is not an accident or a random act. They are to have the peace of Christ in their hearts, knowing that our God is still master of the universe. They will not panic when other men’s hearts are failing them for fear at all the frightful things they see coming on the earth. Peter goes on to say, “The heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up” (3:10). To whom is the apostle Peter addressing these words? The answer is found in 2 Peter 3:1: “Beloved, I now write to you.” He is addressing the faithful remnant of believers. Whenever we hear words like Peter’s, our first response is to recoil. “There’s too much bad news today. Why do we have to hear this message now? Why not just let it happen?” But Peter had a reason: “Since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness” (3:11). In light of the sudden dissolving of all things, God’s beloved people ought to check their own behavior. Those who look for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy ought to be conformed to the image of Christ, in conduct, in conversation and in thought. Make no mistake, the fire is coming. And for that reason, we are to “be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless” (3:14). If you're not aware of Bible Prophecies and of what is to come, you want expect or know what is happening when it happens thus men and women's hearts will fell them in fear. Don't be caught unaware for there are some bad times coming to this world before the coming of our Lord. Christ sent out his twelve disciples to proclaim the good news, heal the sick, and be willing vessels to bring about his kingdom on earth (see Mark 16:15-18). Later, he sent out seventy disciples with the same instructions (see Luke 10:1-16). He told each of these groups, “Everything I have taught you to do — preach the gospel, heal the afflicted and bring about my kingdom — you are to do in my name. Now go into all the world and do as I have commanded.” That is the New Testament model. But the gap between it and the way we live our faith is vast. At one end is God’s wonder-working power, and on the opposite end is our lifestyle. What keeps us from doing the works of Jesus? I believe it is this: we need a baptism of his love. One barrier more than any other keeps us from loving boldly as Jesus did. This barrier is fear! When we imagine doing the works of Jesus, we are afraid of people, of what they might think, and of failing. The apostle John addresses this directly: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love” (1 John 4:18). Paul enumerates the gifts that come from being freed from fear: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). Nothing in our human ability can fill us with a spirit of power and love and a sound mind. These are gifts of God, and he gives them to all who ask. When he frees us from fear, we are able to love people with his love and minister to their deepest needs. And also, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me” (Matthew 16:24). Paul also declared, “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (Galatians 6:14). Many believers struggle long and hard to be obedient to the Lord, striving earnestly to live a holy life and to be pure. They may get to a place of nothingness — that place where no one on this earth can help — and they know that unless the Lord comes to change them, it cannot be done. It is good to understand that Jesus himself was God in flesh, yet he needed the Father’s direction. “Then Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself does … I can of myself do nothing’” (John 5:19-20, 30). If Jesus needed help and direction with every step, how much more helpless are we without the same love and guidance from the Father? Jesus said our Father loved us and, therefore, he showed us “all things that he himself does.” If we are in Christ, and his Father is our Father, then we are also deeply loved. It is in these times of feeling abandoned that we become wholly dependent upon him. Surrender your will and quit struggling and striving. Place the matter completely in God’s hands — he will take over. His Spirit will take you from death and raise you up into newness of life.
