'Starry Nights' -World Discussions + Vincent van Gogh's Death
Stunning 'Starry Night' Inspired Bike Path -Opens in the Netherlands to Celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Vincent van Gogh's Death
To commemorate the life and work of painter Vincent van Gogh, fellow Dutch artist and designer Daan Roosegaarde has created a beautiful, illuminated bike path inspired by one of van Gogh's most famous works. The kilometre-long Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path is inspired by Starry Night and features 50,000 glow-in-the-dark stones, which have been embedded in the ground. The solar-powered stones soak up the sun's rays by day, resulting in a breath-taking swirling pattern of glowing fragments. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.jpg To commemorate the life and work of Vincent van Gogh, fellow Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde created this dazzling bike path tribute http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.jpg The Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path opened in Eindhoven, Netherlands, on November 12 http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.jpg The opening of this unique installation marks the start of the Van Gogh 2015 international theme year The path also boasts LED lights, which are meant to enhance visibility on cloudy days when the stones may not be able to charge. 'I wanted to create a place that people will experience in a special way, the technical combined with experience, that's what techno-poetry means to me,' Roosegaarde said in a statement. The cycle path is located in the Dutch county of Brabant, where Van Gogh was born and raised. It opened in the city of Eindhoven on November 13. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.jpg Inspired by one of Van Gogh's most famous works - Starry Night - the path boasts 50,000 glow-in-the-dark stones http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.JPG http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.JPG The stones are solar-powered, so they charge via the sun's rays during the day and turn on at night, illuminating the ground for one kilometre http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.jpg Roosegaarde collaborated with Heijmans, a construction services business, to pull off this gorgeous feat The installation is part of the larger Van Gogh Cycle Route, which is free of charge and open to the public year round. The entire route measures 335 kilometres and is split into five individual day trips, which connect several Van Gogh heritage sites. The dazzling one kilometre stretch is just part of a series of celebrations, called Van Gogh 2015, intended to mark the 125th anniversary of the painter's death. Over the year, cultural events celebrating the life and work of the artist will be held in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.jpg http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.jpg The one-kilometre stretch is part of the larger 335-kilometre Van Gogh Cycle Route, which takes riders to many artist-inspired heritage sites http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...t_Photo_by.JPG Source of inspiration: Vincent van Gogh's iconic painting is housed at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...T_INLCUDE_.jpg Mission accomplished: 'I wanted to create a place that people will experience in a special way,' Roosegaarde said of his achievement |

I reply + post this; One of MY expressions comes to mind Tarfoot, ride a horse, even a donkey (as per one of your previous posts), riding any bikes, be they high powered fast motorised bikes, or otherwise...will be such an incredible world... life used to be like that But one can NEVER be sure.... What that incredible group of cyclists AND artists did, and the many months it took them to do so, is truly amazing.. NB. Shame the world is going crazy right now & the ' Powers that be Leaders', do not take time 'out', and appreciate what they will EVENTUALLY destroy...= plants/crops/animals.. = shortage of water/food I thank you for your comments and inputs Tarfoot...:) . |

Been so long since I road a bicycle, I'd probably need training wheels, otherwise we'd be having some skinned knees.....LOL I didn't catch the tandem earlier, that being a bike for two. I'm a little slow in mind these days..LOL Still think it would make a nice carriage ride with a big white horse......or donkey.

Something like the Irish started/'control' in NY/Philly, etc. in the US Tarfoot? > rather like the basic of most Police Forces in Eastern US..eh? I am not American, but have travelled across it many years ago with my wonderful parents...then afterwards when they 'passed to live with the Angels'.... the US is a truly beautiful country, that was once called "The New World" I do appreciate our discussions, but PLEASE be careful Tarfoot, NEVER post/give clues as to where you live, nor any info about yourself, on ANY site.... You are secure on this site, but I, and our incredible staff, are always observant to protect this site and its' members As to your comment of; Quote:
Please do not worry about your being slow in mind,,, I lost my memory for nearly a year a few years ago, the long term memory eventually returned - the short term memory continues to 'weaken'. Members like you posting encourages me and I thank you for doing so. I still retain my great sense of humour, sooooo As to your suggestion/dream of a nice carriage ride with a big white horse... You pay the airfare****, I will hire the horse and carriage...:laff: NB.... PLEASE, not with ****AA= American Airlines, (AlwaysAwful - in my words/experience)...JMO.. . |
