I don't normally post threads in these forums and I'm not sure this is even the right forum for this rant.

I've been using file hosts for a long time and have used all of the best, going back to Rapidshare before they changed it and until the government scare that shut a lot of them down. Rapidgator has got to be the worst host I've ever dealt with. Constant disconnects and 'Download Incomplete' errors. It's slow, with other hosts my download speeds average between 450 to 600kbs but with Rapidgator I rarely see a speed above 125kbs generally in the 50 to 60kbs range.

I'm not sure if there's something in the upload process that cause this but I've found that about 90% of the downloads I've made with Rapidgator the files are corrupt and either won't play or are badly pixilated or they play so far and just stop altogether and if I do get them to start up again the audio is gone. I use several different media players, GOM and VLC being the best. I don't use WinMedia as a rule but I've tried these with WinMedia with the same result.

I'll be glad when my 3 month subscription is up so I can go back to a better host like uploaded.net, never had a problem downloading with that. The worst thing about it is trying to pay for it with a debit card as they don't take PayPal.

Sorry for the rant but, I don't recommend Rapidgator to anybody that's thinking about using it, in my estimation it's garbage....

There will be change when this RG account expires for sure because I won't renew it. I'm not sure which I'll go with but thinking File Factory, it seems to be a pretty popular host....

You are not the only one that has complained about Rapidgator aceteleman, many before you have, not only on this site. They even cheated me. After I paid for Premium with them, many times the download speed was as slow as if I hadnt paid for Premium. When I complained, I was told well just close your account, but you are not getting your money back......

The best one I have found is Filefactory and their free turbobooster is brilliant. The other good one, is Uploaded, & our Admin itisjust4fun thinks their service is good too

Thanks for that feedback Ladybbird. I have a File Factory free account but stopped using it because nobody uploads the things I download with FF. I had a premium uploaded.net account but when I went to renew it they wouldn't accept my card again and they don't do PayPal. I liked UL a lot, easy to find links and generally up in the 500kbs range on downloads. As I mentioned, with RG I spend more time resuming disconnects and download incompletes. I've spent as much as 7 hours downloading a file under 500mb between that and the slow download speeds.

I wish Fileserve or Hotfile would come back, those were two of the best I ever used. I started with RapidShare years ago until they changed everything and basically deleted my account when I still had lots of points and time left on what I'd paid for so I won't even mess with them again...

File factory is used on a lot of sites that would be my second choice.

I am with Rare file & my average is about 900 kbps.

With 6 links going @ once.

It of course is only used on one good site.

Rapidshare now works for the US. & Fileserve & Hotfile will never be back. They have both been compromised and their money seized. Not only that they have lost the first stages in the court cases brought by the US, when they were ordered to pay millions of $$. Hotfile continue to fight....
Rapidgator are now under the scrutiny of the US....only a metter of time methinks.
& many sites have now stopped using Paypal, as PPal will report those with illegal content

For me the best one is still File Factory and they regularly release great deals, like Premium for $39.95 per year

These days Uploaders tend to use different new FHosts, but there are those that will supply other FHosts, but members have to request them, unfortunately most members just download and run...in fact they dont even post a thanks and click the uploaders posts. Yeah, I kinda kept an eye on that thing with Fileserve and Hotfile. And I've seen the Freakshare links on the things I download. Filefactory has 3 months for $29 right now but I don't want to spend the money for something I can't use. Hopefully a few of those WWE regulars will take notice and start using it. I have a few faves to download from there who usually have pretty good links. I still think the corrupt videos are partly a result of the upload process because I've never had that issue before, well, an occasional one.

I don't download a whole lot mostly just WWE stuff because I don't have or want a tv, haven't watched tv for more than 10 years now, lol..... If a few that post the WWE stuff regular would upload to Filefactory I'd sure like to see how it does with JDownloader. Court Orders ISPs to Block Russia’s Facebook and Rapidgator

While entertainment companies are able to chase down suspected owners of file-sharing sites in order to issue them with copyright complaints, the process can be both complex and expensive.

Even when an action gets underway it can be months or years before the matter is brought to a conclusion and despite having a pretty decent success rate, it is relatively rare for rightsholders to tackle their rivals in this manner.

More popular at the moment is to impact a site’s traffic in a particular region by appealing directly to a court. If a judge can be convinced that a site is causing immediate damage to a copyright holder that is likely to continue unless action is taken, having that site blocked at the ISP level is now a very real option in several countries across Europe.

Understandably people are concerned that the path could lead to serious overblocking and today we have the first signs that shadowy sites such as The Pirate Bay won’t be the only ones to face being censored.

VKontakte is Russia’s version of Facebook. It is a massive operation with upwards of 45 million daily users. The site allows its users to upload video and audio content which of course means that some will store copyrighted material. According to a company called Medusa Film, the site has been hosting a copy of its film Sole a Catinelle (Sun in Buckets).

Medusa Film is owned by Mediaset, a communications and media giant founded by **former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi**, and owned by his family. According to their complaint, something dramatic needed to be done against not only VK.com but a range of other file-hosting sites actively making their content available.

The Public Prosecutor of Rome agreed and has now issued an order for all local Internet service providers to begin a blockade of vKontakte and several other hosting sites including Rapidgator.net, one of the largest file-hosters around.

The remaining sites to be blocked include movshare.net, nowdownload.ch, nowvideo.ch, topvideo.tv, upshared.com, usefile.com and videopremium.tv.

Marco d’Itri who runs Osservatorio Censura, a site dedicated to reporting on Italian web censorship, said that action is being taken before a hearing on the full merits of the case.

“As usual this is an ‘urgent’ confiscation request which happens well before a trial,” d’Itri explains.

It is not known whether Medusa reached out to vKontakte, Rapidgator or any of the other sites involved before they decided to go to court with a request for a web blockade. In any event, it seems unlikely that the two big ones will sit back and do nothing.

Earlier this year Rapidgator successfully fought back against another web blocking action initiated by the distributor of a cartoon movie. Fulvio Sarzana, a lawyer with the Sarzana and Partners law firm who specializes in Internet and copyright disputes, represented the site and convinced the court that Rapidgator was not responsible for user uploads.

The case with vKontakte is considerably more broad. The site is equivalent to Facebook and as such Russian citizens in Italy will now find themselves not only disconnected from files, but completely cut off from their social networking contacts.

However, as the number one visited site in Russia, VKontakte has incredible resources. Putting up a defense in a case like this should be well within its capabilities and there is a very real possibility that the decision will be overturned in due course. For the others (Rapidgator aside) the outlook seems much less positive.

Update: Fulvio Sarzana informs us that although not formally instructed in the case by Rapidgator at the present moment, he feels the site should appeal.

“Once again they have seized dozens of portals for a single film, which among other things, has already made 50 million Euros at the box office,” Sarzana says.

“Millions of files are being seized for a single film, a measure that appears disproportionate and contrary to European standards in terms of proportionality, adequacy and effectiveness of the measure.”

RapidGator Wiped From Google by False DMCA Notices

File-hosting service RapidGator has had nearly all of its search results wiped from Google, including many clearly non-infringing pages. The URLs in question were removed by the search engine after a DMCA notice from several copyright holders. RapidGator is outraged and says the overbroad censorship is hurting its business, warning that the same could happen to others. “If it happens to us, it can happen to MediaFire or Dropbox tomorrow,” they state.

Every week copyright holders send millions of DMCA takedown notices to Google in the hope of making pirated content harder to find.

Thus far this has resulted in more than 200 million URLs being removed from Google’s search engine. While many of these takedown claims are legit, some are clearly false, censoring perfectly legitimate webpages from search results.

File-hosting service RapidGator.net is one site that has fallen victim to such overbroad takedown requests. The file-hosting service has had nearly all its URLs de-listed, including its homepage, making the site hard to find through Google.

Several other clearly non-infringing pages, including the FAQ, the news section, and even the copyright infringement policy, have also been wiped from Google by various takedown requests.

People who now search for RapidGator on Google will no longer see the site’s domain listed on top of the search results. Instead, the first result now points to RapidGator.org, which appears to be a RapidGator affiliate.

RapidGator is one of the most visited file-sharing portals on the Internet, and the site believes it misses out on thousands of visitors now they have become invisible through Google.

“We’ll lose thousands of visitors because of this action. This is not right. If it happens to us, it can happen to MediaFire or Dropbox tomorrow,” RapidGator’s Dennis told TorrentFreak.

“Most importantly, it opens the door for phishing sites, who will register similar site name and mislead our users,” he adds.

At the time of writing, only two RapidGator URLs are indexed by Google. The file-hosting service has submitted counter-notices for several of the false takedown requests, but thus far they haven’t heard back from Google.

Interestingly, Google has processed takedown requests for millions of RapidGator links over the past months, even though the site only allowed the search engine to crawl a dozen of its pages. In other words, most of the RapidGator pages copyright holders ask Google to remove were never indexed by Google to begin with.

“Our robots.txt forbids search engines bots to index any file/* folder/ URLs. We only allow them to crawl our main page and the pages we have in a footer of the website. So most of the URLs for which Google gets DMCA notices are not listed in index by default,” RapidGator’s Dennis explains.

RapidGator hopes that Google will eventually reinstate the homepage listing, as well as the other pages that have been removed without basis.

This is not the first setback for the file-hosting site this year. Last month an Italian court ordered local ISPs to block RapidGator to protect the rights of a movie distribution company controlled by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Despite these troubles, the site remains one of the most visited file-sharing sites on the Internet, serving millions of users per day.

The URLs in question were removed by the search engine after a DMCA notice from several copyright holders. RapidGator is outraged and says the overbroad censorship is hurting its business, warning that the same could happen to others. “If it happens to us, it can happen to MediaFire or Dropbox tomorrow,” they state. Every week copyright holders send millions of DMCA takedown notices to Google in the hope of making pirated content harder to find. Thus far this has resulted in more than 200 million URLs being removed from Google’s search engine. While many of these takedown claims are legit, some are clearly false, censoring perfectly legitimate webpages from search results. File-hosting service RapidGator.net is one site that has fallen victim to such overbroad takedown requests. The file-hosting service has had nearly all its URLs de-listed, including its homepage, making the site hard to find through Google. Several other clearly non-infringing pages, including the FAQ, the news section, and even the copyright infringement policy, have also been wiped from Google by various takedown requests. People who now search for RapidGator on Google will no longer see the site’s domain listed on top of the search results. Instead, the first result now points to RapidGator.org, which appears to be a RapidGator affiliate. RapidGator is one of the most visited file-sharing portals on the Internet, and the site believes it misses out on thousands of visitors now they have become invisible through Google. “We’ll lose thousands of visitors because of this action. This is not right. If it happens to us, it can happen to MediaFire or Dropbox tomorrow,” RapidGator’s Dennis told TorrentFreak. “Most importantly, it opens the door for phishing sites, who will register similar site name and mislead our users,” he adds. At the time of writing, only two RapidGator URLs are indexed by Google. The file-hosting service has submitted counter-notices for several of the false takedown requests, but thus far they haven’t heard back from Google. Interestingly, Google has processed takedown requests for millions of RapidGator links over the past months, even though the site only allowed the search engine to crawl a dozen of its pages. In other words, most of the RapidGator pages copyright holders ask Google to remove were never indexed by Google to begin with. “Our robots.txt forbids search engines bots to index any file/* folder/ URLs. We only allow them to crawl our main page and the pages we have in a footer of the website. So most of the URLs for which Google gets DMCA notices are not listed in index by default,” RapidGator’s Dennis explains. RapidGator hopes that Google will eventually reinstate the homepage listing, as well as the other pages that have been removed without basis. This is not the first setback for the file-hosting site this year. Last month an Italian court ordered local ISPs to block RapidGator to protect the rights of a movie distribution company controlled by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Despite these troubles, the site remains one of the most visited file-sharing sites on the Internet, serving millions of users per day.
