MORE Tornadoes and Thunderstorms Headed for Great Plains US, After Extreme Weather Drowns Oklahoma Woman in her Storm Shelter and Flood Nebraska

  • Extreme weather hit Tornado Alley earlier this week - and more thunderstorms are predicted for Friday
  • Forecasters say tornadoes could strike then as well - with greater likelihood they will come over the weekend
  • Follows pummeling from strong winds and rains in Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma, where a woman died
  • The Great Plains are due even more extreme weather after they were battered by flooding and tornadoes in the past days.
Daily Mail UK, 8 May 2015

Forecasters have predicted that strong thunderstorms will hit Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas today, with tornadoes a possibility for the weekend.

Winds of up to 70mph and great lumps of hail more than 2 inches wide will fall on an area stretching from southern Kansas into Texas, with Grand Island, Wichita, Oklahoma City and Dallas all due to be hit.
It follows powerful storms around the Oklahoma City area earlier this week, where a woman died after water flooded into her home's storm shelter and drowned her.

Twelve people were confirmed to be injured in the powerful storms, which also brought severe flooding to parts of Nebraska. Communities were left picking up the pieces, with homes, hotels and storage units virtually wiped out in the vortex.

The weather system battered a region from Texas to Nebraska and spawned dozens of reported tornadoes on Wednesday.

A spring storm is moving across the Sierra Nevada, with nearly a foot of snow expected on the mountain tops, and flurries and rain showers in the valleys into Friday morning.

The National Weather Service reported more than 3 inches of snow early Thursday on Lake Tahoe’s western shore at Homewood, California.
Chains or snow tires are required over the Mount Rose Highway connecting Reno to Lake Tahoe’s north shore. A winter weather advisory remains in effect through 11am Friday in California’s Mono County south of the lake.

The weather service says the heaviest snow is expected Thursday afternoon, with some bands producing as much as two inches of snow an hour in the areas south of U.S. Highway 50. Travelers should be prepared for snow- or ice-covered roads.
