“Running Scared” is a chart-topper for Roy Orbison. 1961

Megadeth’s Shawn Drover has a birthday. He’s born in Montreal and takes up drumming at age 13. 1966

The Long Beach Arena is where Buffalo Springfield play their final concert. 1968

Creedence Clearwater Revival uncork their classic “Bad Moon Risin’.” 1969

David Bowie’s “Aladdin Sane” tops the UK charts. 1973

A John Lennon Tribute Concert is held in Merseyside with proceeds going to the Spirit Foundation (which John and Yoko started). 1990

Jason Bonham, the son of the legendary late Led Zeppelin drummer John, gets married. That’s good news but the bigger news is the surviving members of pop’s band show up. Bonham joins Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones for a five song set at his wedding reception near Kidderminster, England. 1990

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Alder is arraigned on possession of heroin charges. 1995

U2’s “Pop” goes platinum in the U.S. Even so, the album’s sales are among the lowest in U2's catalog. 1997

Oasis’ management company sends an e-mail to over 100 unauthorized websites threatening legal action if they continue to use Oasis music. 1997

Blur issue “Think Tank” in the U.K. It’s their seventh studio album. 2003

During a Denver radio interview Ted Nugent spouts racist remarks (against Blacks and Asians). The DJs stop the interview. As a result Nugent is dropped from the upcoming Summer Celebration Festival in Michigan. 2003

Founding drummer Steve Gorman joins the Black Crowes on their reunion tour. His first gig back in the fold is in Atlanta. 2005

The Red Hot Chili Peppers roll out “Stadium Arcadium,” their ninth studio album, and last before the departure of guitarist John Frusciante. 2006

Live issues "Songs From Black Mountain." It’s the group’s seventh studio album and the first on Epic Records. On the same day, they start their U.S. tour in Jackson, MS. 2006

Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil hosts the 10th annual Skylar Neil Memorial Golf Tournament in Simi Valley, CA. Neil created the charity event in memory of his daughter, who died in '95 of stomach cancer at age four. Proceeds go to combat childhood illnesses. 2006

Nine Inch Nails release ”The Slip,” a 10-song set that includes the single "Discipline.” It’s available for free download in a variety of digital formats. "Thank you for your continued and loyal support," writes frontman Trent Reznor in an online post. "This one's on me." The Slip” on CD is released the following July. 2008

The Doobie Brothers premiere the video for “Far From Home” on USO.org. The video shows footage of service members returning home to their families. The song is from the group’s “World Gone Crazy” album. 2011

Rush receive the 2012 Governor General's Performing Arts Award, a recognition of lifetime artistic achievement. The award, presented in Ottawa, includes $25,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and a commemorative medallion struck by the Royal Canadian Mint. 2012

Adopt The Arts, co-founded by drummer Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver, ex-Guns N' Roses), air a public service announcement in hopes of saving arts programs in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Adopt The Arts was created following the district's decision to eliminate all funding for elementary school arts programs. 2012

Former KoRn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch performs with the group for the first time in seven years at the Carolina Rebellion Festival. "I want to bring out one of my dearest, oldest and most beloved friends to have some fun with us," says vocalist Jonathan Davis. Welch left KoRn in ‘05 to focus on his sobriety and his faith. 2012
