5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Confuses Cubans
Havana.– A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck just off the northern coast of Cuba just before 3 p.m. Thursday.
The earthquake, according to the USGS, struck just 24 miles north of Corralillo, Cuba, or about 112 miles east of Havana. The earthquake was reportedly 12.4 miles below the earth’s surface.
Although no damage has been reported, the tremor is one of the few to ever occur in the Straits of Florida, the J-shaped channel that hooks through Florida, the Keys, Cuba and the Bahamas.
