Default Re: 02 blocks access to The Pirate Bay

The blacklist blocking of an IP address will never work. TPB has already shown them it doesn't work and continues to show them. What will happen instead is one day those applying blocking will wake up to the fact that a good portion of their customers are cut off from the the net, using their services. Others will find that the new website they just made no one can find and connect to.

Another little item you haven't heard a lot about here is the change from IPv4 to IPv6. Because there is so much usage of IP numbers there is no longer enough unused numbers in the old method to continue to allow growth with new startups having individual unique numbers. With IPv4 there are 2³² possible unique addresses (4,294,967,296). With the new setup of IPv6 there are 2¹²⁸ possible unique addresses or (3.403×10³⁸). Which will mean since TPB has already started using IPv6 this will go on a long long time costing Brein money every time it runs off to get a new number blocked by court order.

Now if they were using a White List it would be more effective but it takes forever to get one that is workable. White lists only let you connected to what is allowed in the list, rather than operating like a blacklist that prevents you from connecting. But every site on the net must be in the White list if you are an ISP, barring those to be filtered out.

On the whole, the idea Brien has isn't workable. TPB knows this and has decided to have fun teaching them why it isn't since they have the conception there ought to be a magic button to do that.
