The BSA does this piracy report every year. Like the RIAA, their reports are the joke of the year as well. The BSA cooks it's figures to make it sound as bad as possible with figures and methods long ago debunked.

As examples, students are normally able to buy software packages for school at reduced prices. Sometimes when you buy software you get deals, like two for one. Sometimes, you find a sale on software. In each and every case, the BSA will only figure the value of each software at full OEM price.

There is no way to actually know what is on everyone's computers around the world. So it's a guesstimate based on a survey they ran in the US. So does the US have the same economy as say Sudan? Not likely they will ever match up in the real world, not that the BSA wants it too. Many third world countries would have very little software if they didn't pirate it. The BSA is a fool to think someone there would spend several months income on a software package as opposed to food and shelter.

The figures are all fluff and puff. One other odd thing is that all the media runs out and dutifully parrots the figures from the so called studies but no one ever checks the facts to see if it is real.
