Default re: Pirate Party Breaks Election Records -UPDATE

The Pirate Party started out with a very limited scope; mainly copyright. While that is a worthy target for returning some sanity back to what has been hijacked, it's too limited for a political party.

As an example of that, here in the states, in 30 years 15 copyright bills have come through. What do you do with the rest of the time as a political force? It's not enough activity by itself to keep the party active and interesting. Which is one of the main reasons why the copywrong groups have gotten as far as they have. Face it, copyright isn't very glamorous nor exciting. Because of that, they've been able to slide under the radar for a long time. People are finally waking up to the fact that were it not for copyright pushing limits on freedoms, they wouldn't be hearing of things like ACTA and SOPA.

There's another driving force making them popular since they had to take up other issues. One that isn't just limited to one or two countries. Citizenry on both sides of the pond are getting fed up with the corruption, the lying, the steady pushing of bills made for law consideration in the back room where no one has any input. Transparency used to be something that was paid attention to. You, as a citizen could find out what your representatives were up to in the bill making department. You could find out about what bills were of interest to you and what was being done about it.

In today's world, much of this is now being done behind closed doors. That's one of the prime reasons why people are saying that this country and many others are all headed in the wrong direction.

Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, wrote an article about the common practices of fascism. In that, he listed 14 different things that are common to fascism. Look at this list and think of your country. See how many look familiar in the sense of where laws are going and how your government is acting.
  1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
  2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights
  3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
  4. Supremacy of the Military
  5. Controlled Mass Media
  6. Rampant Sexism
  7. Obsession with National Security
  8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
  9. Corporate Power is Protected
  10. Labor Power is Suppressed
  11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
  12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
  13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
  14. Fraudulent Elections

These traits were common in the era of the following fascist regimes.
  • Hitler of Germany
  • Mussolini of Italy
  • Franco of Spain
  • Suharto of Indonesia
  • Pinochet of Chile

Does any of this sound like modern day? Here is where The Pirate Party is picking up votes. Mainly transparency of governance.
