Default Re: Anti-Piracy Group Asks Court to Gag The Pirate Party

BREIN is a real stinker. It's the Dutch version of the RIAA. It tends to run to court, get a ruling in it's favor and then stretch the results into something it wants but wasn't won in the case.

This is what all the stink is over here. BREIN won a case that said ISPs had to block The Pirate Bay. The Pirate Party promptly put up a proxy to get around the ISP block. BREIN ran off to court to get an ex parte order to close down the proxy. But the courts never said anything about proxies, only about ISPs.

The ex parte commanded The Pirate Party to close the proxy or face 10,000 euros a day fine. Since ex parte never informs the other side because it is a rush job to prevent financial damage to the concerned party, The Pirate Party never got a say in the ruling. They went to appeals court and got that order overturned.

And there you have the source of why BREIN wants The Pirate Party gagged. Their being made to look bad.
