That's quite possible. It's a great recovery tool. Not easy to find or create either from what I recall hearing.
No, it's Windows based recovery, so it won't work on other OS's. In fact, older versions won't work with more current systems even. Partially because new systems use SATA devices.
Honestly, I have used both Malwarebytes and Spybot. They are both good, but I normally only use spybot, but each person has his/her own preference. Just like some swear by McAffee for AV, I prefer Symantec (Norton).
