Amber Heard has vowed “not to be silenced” after he ex-husband Johnny Depp filed a 50 million dollar defamation lawsuit against her following her allegations of domestic violence.

Speaking via her lawyer, the 32-year-old actress, who arrived in London on Friday, said The Pirates of the Caribbean star was unable to accept the truth.

Her lawyer Eric M. George told People magazine: “This frivolous action is just the latest of Johnny Depp’s repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard. She will not be silenced.

“Mr. Depp’s actions prove he is unable to accept the truth of his ongoing abusive behavior.

“But while he appears hell-bent on achieving self-destruction, we will prevail in defeating this groundless lawsuit and ending the continued vile harassment of my client by Mr. Depp and his legal team.’

The lawsuit in question relates to a piece Amber wrote for the Washington Post in December.

Depp, 55, is suing his ex-wife for $50 million (£37.8m) for defamation, after she claimed she had received death threats and lost out on work after accusing Depp of domestic abuse.

“The implication that Mr Depp is a domestic abuser is categorically and demonstrably false,’ Depp’s lawsuit states.

The 55-year-old actor, estimated to be worth £150 million in 2018, described Heard’s 2016 abuse allegations as “an elaborate hoax” according to the lawsuit.

Images emerged at the time showing Heard with a bruised eye and face and she claimed they were caused when Depp threw a phone at her face and struck her in their home.

Depp, who married Heard in February 2015, after a long-term relationship with French actress Vanessa Paradis, mother of his two children, has long denied the allegations.

He instead claimed that his ex-wife was repeatedly violent towards him during their volatile two year union.

In the defamation lawsuit, reported in the US, Depp claims , a month after they wed Heard threw a vodka bottle at him and caused the bones in the tip of his right middle finger to shatter.

He also claims that he was dropped from Pirates of the Caribbean just four days after Heard’s piece was published in the Washington Post.

In court documents obtained by American entertainment magazine The Blast, Depp’s team say: “Ms. Heard purported to write from the perspective of “a public figure representing domestic abuse” and claimed that she “felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out” when she “spoke up against sexual violence.”

“Mr. Depp never abused Ms. Heard. Her allegations against him were false when they were made in 2016. “They were an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity for Ms. Heard and advance her career.

“Ms Heard also knew that her elaborate hoax worked: as a result of her false allegations against Mr Depp, Ms Heard became a darling of the #MeToo movement, was the first actress named a Human Rights Champion of the United Nations Human Rights Office, was appointed ambassador on women’s rights at the American Civil Liberties Union, and was hired by L’Oreal Paris as its global spokesperson.”

The actress obtained a temporary restraining order against Depp five days after she filed for divorce in 2016, and alleged that the actor was verbally and physically abusive towards her.

Amber and Johnny came to a settlement and the restraining order was dismissed, with their joint statement reading:

‘Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. ‘Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains.

There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm.”
