UK Weather: Amber Snow Warning Issued as Met Office Warns of Potential Risk to Life

Lowest UK winter temperature of -14.4C recorded in Scotland
Amber warning for London, south east, south west and Wales
Drivers likely to be stranded and communities cut off
Commuters told to leave work early by train operators
Cold weather wardrobe: 10 pieces to see you through the chill

The Telegraph UK, 31 JAN 2019.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for snow which carries a potential risk to life as parts of England and Wales are braced for up to 10cm of snow to fall in two hours.

Drivers are likely to be left stranded on roads, rail cancellations and delays are predicted, rural communities could become cut off and there is a good chance power cuts will affect mobile phone coverage.

Train operators urged commuters to leave work early in order to avoid having their journeys impacted by the winter weather.

The warning covers London and south east England, the south west and Wales, but a map showing the amber warning suggests parts of Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset and south Wales will be among the worst affected.

In a bleak warning to those in the area, the Met Office said:

Travel delays on roads are likely, stranding some vehicles and passengers
Some delays and cancellations to rail travel are likely
There is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off
Power cuts are likely and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
