No Tsunami Warning After 6.6 and 6.8-Magnitude Earthquakes Strike Near Vancouver Island
The 6.6 magnitude earthquake that struck off the B.C. Coast has not resulted in a tsunami warning.
Powerful 6.6 and 6.8 magnitude earthquakes have both struck around 230 kilometres south-west of Port Hardy off of Vancouver Island.
The United States Geological Survey says the first quake hit at 10:39 p.m. PST at a depth of 10.6 kilometres, and the second at 11:16 p.m. at a depth of 21 kilometres.
The U.S. agency says based on all available data a tsunami threat has not been issued.
Natural Resources Canada reports the first was a 6.5-magnitude quake and that there are no reports of damage, and none are expected.
The ministry also says no tsunami is expected from the first quake.
No details from them on the second quake have been released yet from them.
