Ireland Braces Itself as Storm Callum and Hurricane Leslie en Route

The Indian summer predicted in Ireland will be short-lived as two storms to move in towards the end of the week...

Irish weather forecasters believe Ireland could be struck by Storm Callum and the remains of Hurricane Leslie this week with status red weather warnings possible, as wind could reach up to 92.3 mph (150kph).

On Sunday night Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly released a weather chart warning that Ireland could be witness a “serious weather event” on Friday. Red weather warnings could be issued meaning “extreme weather” is to be expected.

He posted again on Monday stating that the latest charts “continue to show an intense storm for Thursday night into Friday which could become Storm Callum but the remains of Leslie on this run heads for Portugal and weakens.”

reland’s meteorological experts, Met Éireann, confirmed these reported that heavy rain and gale-force winds were to be expected by Thursday night and into Friday morning, across Ireland. The west and north-west of Ireland will bear the brunt of this bad weather.

Met Éireann forecaster Matthew Martin said they are currently tracking the storm and will released weather alerts closer to the time of landfall.

Ireland’s, much celebrated, Indian summer, which is forecast for this week will be in full effect by Wednesday as temperatures are set to reach 70F (20C) however the change will come on Thursday when temperatures will drop, and winds will progressively increase.

It seems that the remains of Hurricane Leslie could then follow Storm Callum by this weekend. If red status warning is issued this will mean there is a danger to life from flying debris, and widespread property damage and disruption to travel and power networks are forecast.
