Scriptures for Ashe Wednesday
Psalms 51:1-17
Psa 51:1* To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.*
Psa 51:2* Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.*
Psa 51:3* For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.*
Psa 51:4* Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.*
Psa 51:5* Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.*
Psa 51:6* Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.*
Psa 51:7* Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.*
Psa 51:8* Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.*
Psa 51:9* Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.*
Psa 51:10* Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.*
Psa 51:11* Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.*
Psa 51:12* Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.*
Psa 51:13* Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.*
Psa 51:14* Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.*
Psa 51:15* O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.*
Psa 51:16* For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.*
Psa 51:17* The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.*
Matthew 6:1-21
Mat 6:1* Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.*
Mat 6:2* Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.*
Mat 6:3* But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:*
Mat 6:4* That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.*
The Lord's Prayer
Mat 6:5* And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.*
Mat 6:6* But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.*
Mat 6:7* But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.*
Mat 6:8* Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.*
Mat 6:9* After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.*
Mat 6:10* Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.*
Mat 6:11* Give us this day our daily bread.*
Mat 6:12* And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.*
Mat 6:13* And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.*
Mat 6:14* For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:*
Mat 6:15* But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.*
Fasting
Mat 6:16* Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.*
Mat 6:17* But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;*
Mat 6:18* That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.*
Lay Up Treasures in Heaven
Mat 6:19* Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:*
Mat 6:20* But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:*
Mat 6:21* For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.*

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people -- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4
