Boxing Khan's Mega-Fight with 'Canelo' Alvarez +Targets Rematch with Danny Garcia

Amir Khan is 'Not Bothered' About Kell Brook Bout as he Prepares for Mega-Fight with 'Canelo' Alvarez - and Targets a Rematch with Danny Garcia Afterwards

  • Amir Khan faces Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in Las Vegas on May 7
  • The Bolton-born fighter says he is on a 'different path' to Kell Brook
  • After the Alvarez fight he wants a rematch with Danny Garcia
  • Brook has been called out by the highly promising Errol Spence Jnr
Daily Mail UK, 17 April 2016

The Bolton UK-born fighter is planning to shock the world by jumping up in weight and beating middleweight title holder Alvarez in Las Vegas, with the fight being contested at a catchweight of 155lbs.

It is a bold move by Khan to target one of boxing's biggest names in a higher weight class and he insists his sights have always been beyond Brook, the IBF welterweight champion.

The Bolton-born fighter insists he is 'not bothered' about ever facing Kell Brook as they are on 'different paths'

Brook (left) last fought in March when he was too good for challenger Kevin Bizier, who was out of his depth

I'm going to see how it goes and the Kell Brook fight might or might not happen,' Khan said
'He's on his own path and I'm on my own path – I'm fighting the big names in boxing in the big arenas and Kell Brook has it a different way.

'He's fighting Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier. I'm in the big fights and he's not.
'If it doesn't happen, I'm not really bothered about it, it doesn't affect my career.

Khan (left) wants a rematch with Danny Garcia, who stopped him in the fourth round when they fought in 2012

'After the Alvarez fight I'm still mandatory challenger for the WBC world welterweight title, so I could get the rematch with Danny Garcia.

'That is a fight I have always wanted, to put the record straight with him. Boxing changes quickly and some new guy could also come along, so we shall have to see what happens.'

Since travelling to the USA and taking Shawn Porter's IBF welterweight title in August 2014, Brook has made three comfortable and low-key defences.

He has been calling out Khan for years - and it seemed they would finally meet this summer - but that fell through when Khan made the stunning announcement that he would be facing Alvarez on the weekend of 'Cinco de Mayo'.

Meanwhile, Brook has been called out by the supremely promising Errol Spence Jnr.
Spence, 26, made light work of Chris Algieri on Saturday night - stopping him in five rounds - and wants to fight Brook.

The 2012 Olympian is well-known in boxing circles for allegedly giving Floyd Mayweather a black eye in sparring and he was levels above Algieri, who has taken Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan 12 rounds.

'I think I will be the new IBF No 1 challenger once I win this and hopefully I will get a crack at Kell Brook,' he told Sky before the fight.
'That's a fight I am looking forward to. I am looking at everyone who holds a world title but I would look forward to a Kell Brook fight if I get that mandatory position.'

'I'd go anywhere to fight, it doesn't matter,' Spence added. 'I've seen Kell fight and he can fight. He's good and it'd be a good fight. He's got a good one-two.
'I think 147lbs is the best division in boxing. From top to bottom they've got good fighters and we're all young, so we are going to be around for a while.'

Spence (left) was a class above Algieri, who managed to take Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan 12 rounds
